Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionUnable to open joint bank accounts
My exwife and her husband had the same problem . They were able to open a checking account at Bank of America. Its worth a chance . Another bank that was willing to help them was Union Bank of California. There are a few banks out there but it takes work to find the ones not using Chexsystems and credit checks. Heres a link to try. Cabt guarantee it will work but it did for them. Hope it helps.

PhilippinesFront Loading on a K-1 Application
I personally did front load my petition.I front loaded using quality over quantity if that makes sense.Below is what I did and have used many times over the years to help my first Filipina wife, her friends and family doing there K1 visas. All were successful with no RFE. I'm not sure if front loading helps or not. I feel comfortable doing so, and I make sure not to go overboard. I find more pros than cons in doing so.***Optional requirements are marked with ***

$340 Submittal Fee- Check or Money order made out to U.S. Department of Homeland Security.

Cover Letter

I-129F-(Recommend adding a 1 page attachment for question 18 explaining the circumstances of meeting within the past two years, sign and date I-129F and attachment.)

G-325A- filled out by the US Citizen signed and dated

G-325A- filled out by the foreign fiance signed and dated

***G-1145- (***Optional but recommended)

Copy of Birth Certificate- US Citizen

***Copy of Birth Certificate- Foreign Fiance (***Optional but recommended- Use to avoid discrepancies on birth certificate and information you place on the forms as mistakes on birth certificates are common in the Philippines, you can avoid a possible RFE or delay.)

Letter of Intent to marry- US Citizen signed and dated

Letter of Intent to marry- Foreign Fiance signed and dated

Passport Photo- 1 of US Citizen

Passport Photo- 1 of Foreign Fiance

Proof of having met in last 2 years - Copies of all airline boarding passes, train passes, itineraries, hotel receipts etc

Copy of your Passport- Front page and Exit / Entry Stamps. Make sure to make clear copies of Exit/Entry stamps.

Photos- Photos of you and fiance together. If possible include photos of different locations and clothing. Photos with you, fiance, fiances friends and family together.( 6-12 photos )

***Proof of ongoing relationship- Copies of land line /cell phone bills, appropriate letters and emails, stamps on the letters (to document the date they were sent), and other written documentary proof, Chat logs from Skype,Yahoo etc. , Money remittance receipts such as Western Union or Xoom, Engagement ring receipt etc. Basically any thing you have to prove your relationship is ongoing.(***Not Necessary but Recommend if you want to front load your Petition- I personally front load Petition using quality over quantity)

If applicable- Copy of final Divorce Decree/Annulment or Death Certificate for the US Citizen and/or foreign fiance if either has been previously married and marriage ended due to divorce, annulment or death. Include for all previous marriages.

If applicable- Section C Question 2, if applicable provide certified copies of all court and police records showing the charges and dispositions for any specified conviction(s) (in accordance with the IMBRA). See section 9 of the I-129f instructions for more information . (Personally never had to deal with this so seeking further advice in this matter is highly recommended.)

Triple check everything for mistakes, signatures, dates or any discrepancies. Answer all questions, put None or N/A where applicable. If necessary add attachment to any question where you need more space.

Make 2 extra copies of entire packet. I like to scan and make a digital copy of entire packet. One for your records/safe keeping and one that will be sent to your fiance before her interview.

Mail completed packet to USCIS Dallas Lockbox. Send USPS Priority mail with return receipt requested / delivery confirmation to:

PhilippinesThing to do in Manila
Just got back from Manila 10 Days ago. Mainly went around the Makati Area but here are some other things we did.

You can check out Manila Ocean park my fiance and I had a lot of fun there. Its in the same area as the US Embassy.Down at the Manila Bay. http://www.manilaoceanpark.com You can also check out Manila - The Baywalk which was in the same area it was pretty cool at night watching the sunset with my girl.

We also spent alot of time in Makati at The Greenbelt area which consists of Ayala Museum, La Tasca, Greenbelt Park, Greenbelt Mall and Greenbelt Square and the Glorietta is a large shopping mall in the Ayala Center in Makati CitY.It is divided into four sections (named Glorietta 1-4) and contains many shops and restaurants, as well as cinema screens, a gym, arcades and a large central atrium often used to stage special events. It has an activity center, located at the heart of the mall.

We also went to Star City which is a Amusement Park if you like that kind of thing. http://www.starcity.com.ph/index.php

Rizal Park is located between Ermita and Intramuros http://www.manila.go.../lunetapark.htm

If thats not enough there are still more Malls, plenty of places to eat, abundance of night life and bars if that's your thing.I must say I had a great time in Manila and felt very safe there. It was my first trip to Manila. For the past 10 years I had always gone to Davao City because that was where my first wife was from.Manila really surprised me.The food was excellent and the people so friendly. I cant wait to go back in November to see my fiance.

PhilippinesConfusion on Original and photocopy of Immigrant Data Summary for US bound requirement for CFO Stamp

Since your fiancee is a K-1 (non-immigrant) visa holder, she will not be issued IDS (Immigrant Data Summary). IDS is only given to immigrant (e.i. CR-1/IR-1) visa applicants.

This is correct, it is for CR1/IR1 and doesn't apply to K1 visas. K1 visa's are not issued IDS. I was confused by this also so I looked it up.

PhilippinesDid you bring your photo album during the interview?

 Wasn't laughing at your advice, was laughing at the FACT the CO totally messed up with the intent to marry within 90s and even forgot to ask for the letters....

I apologize for being overly sensitive. I just got back from visiting my fiance a couple weeks ago and just starting this process again has me on edge. I'm less than 2 weeks in and already missing my fiance. Going through it once before was enough. I thought it might be easier having experienced it before. Nope it is just as painful being apart. Just found out I'm getting 4 days off soon so I'm going to fly back and spend two days with her. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

PhilippinesDid you bring your photo album during the interview?

This is funny.... anyone want our "new improved" letters of intent? Embassy never asked for them so they are still sitting in a folder. And the CO even forgot to ask my wife if she intented to marry during the interview, we had barely sat down and he called her back to the window to ask her that question.

This is my second time going through this process . I was with my first Filipina wife for 10 years and went through entire process , she is now a US Citizen. Over the years I have helped many people go through this process . I was also lucky enough to meet a gentlemen many years ago who has been married to his lovely Filipina bride for over 30 years. He prepares peoples paperwork for every aspect of the process from the I-129F through Citizenship. He specializes in the Philippines and has seen just about everything possible. I just try to help people when I give advice through real life experience, not Urban legends I read about on the internet.

I agree with everyone above that most couples have very little trouble and most supporting docs you bring to interview will not even be looked at and remain in your folder. Unfortunately not every situation is the same. There are many factors , A guy who goes to the interview with his fiance ,has all his paperwork filled out perfectly, visited his fiance many times or for a substancial amount of time will breeze through. Now on the other side from a actual real life case and using Scuffydogs example below.

I agree with with Scruffydog's post above about most problems arising from " lack of proof of income-That is number 1, NBI cert problems, medical problems, CENOMAR problems, criminal history problems. prior marriage problems, Prior K-1 problems"

A few years ago my brother went on a trip to Davao City with me and my wife at the time. While there on our last 7 days of vacation he met and fell in love with my wife at the times niece. They had never met prior to our trip. As soon as we got back to America we filed their I-129F K1 Petition. They were approved by USCIS with no RFE because they met the requirements of Citizenship, both legal to marry, and having met in person within two years. The only evidence supplied was what they had. That pictures , airline boarding passes and letters if intent. No problems approved.

Where they had problems was at the interview. My brother had been unemployed for 3 years with no tax returns or proof of income. He did get a job 4 months before the interview and saved his paycheck stubs. He did not want to use a co sponsor even though we advised him to do so. His income on paychecks if you muliplied the 4 months x 3 would still be a little under the Poverty guidelines but it was close.. He filled out the I-134 and only had the paystubs included and employment letter. During interview his fiance was asked many questions, she was asked for pictures and the officer looked at many. His fiance was asked if she had any secondary evidence to support her ongoing relationship. She supplied her chat logs, money remittances, and the " new improved letter of Intent to marry" from my brother. This continued through the pre interview and interview. They repeatedly looked at the evidence and asked his fiance if she planned to work once she was able in the USA. She answered "Yes" they looked at the evidence again . The officer asked you do know that you must get married within 90 days of entering the United States. She answered "yes" and they approved her. Her evidence of a bonafide relationship helped her in this case. Not all cases are the same. I don't know people in the internet's situation so I always advise on worst case possiblities.

Honestly how long does it take to go into your docs and change the date and address on your original letter of Intent, print and sign it. 2 minutes? I would rather have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it.

Another thing I like to do is have the pictures in a easy access envelope paper clipped on top of all your other proof of relationship docs in a neat package not to thick , organized with tabs labeling the docs . When interview asks if you have pictures, answer yes "maam or sir" I do right here along with other evidence or something similar. They will 99% of the time see that your prepared and glance at the pictures and not even look at anything else.

The bottom line is ,I'm just sharing my experiences and not sure why you would want to laugh at my advice. You can take my advice or leave it, after all it is your interview. I'm just trying to help. It is beyond me why some would advise on bringing minimal evidence . When you can print it up in a few minutes and have it just in case you do have some problem and are one of the unfortunate fiances who gets asked for it. It can make a difference in some cases. If it stays in your folder that is even better.

PhilippinesDid you bring your photo album during the interview?
Here is the link to requirements for the K1 Interview at the US Embassy in Manila. You can find every thing you will need to prepare here:

http://photos.state....3__rtf2_005.pdf

J. EVIDENCE OF A GENUINE ENGAGEMENT. You must be prepared to prove to the consular officer that you have a genuine relationship with your petitioner and a clear intention to marry within 90 days of admission into the U.S. In the past, successful applicants have submitted photographs, letters, e-mails, phone records, bank records, and remittance records as evidence supporting their relationships and *intent to marry.

*Intent to marry will be a updated letter, Similar to the one's you sent with the original I-129 Petition only signed and dated close to the interview. Difference is only US Citizen needs a Letter of Intent as foreign fiance can verbally agree to intent and address the letter to the Consulate. As found here:

The Consulate at US Embassy in Manila will almost always look at your pictures. They can ask to see anything they want. You will definitely want to bring your picture album to the interview. Pictures are one of the most common things the Consul will ask to see. The pictures would be pretty small to fit 6 on one page. Maybe 2 4x6 per page would be better . I sent the clearest 4x6 photos I had , pics in different clothes ,locations and a couple with friends, family and US together in every photo of course. I sent 8 total pics, the very best quality I had that you could see us crystal clear. Marking dates and description is helpful but many do not and have zero problems.

PhilippinesCan someone suggest a good US cellphone plan to call and text to Philippines?
I bought my fiance magic Jack plus and a laptop for her home. Depending on where she lives you can get her and yourself a Android Phone or IPhone. I have unlimited data with sprint. I bought her a smart Bro stick with WiFi. Some areas the globe tattoo stick with WiFi works better. You can also just buy the non WiFi stick which is cheaper and place the sim in her android phone. When around WiFi at home or mall you can just connect to it also. We use Skype , Yahoo, and Viber. You can text back and forth on Viber or message on ym or Skype all day free. It is amazing how you can talk and text for free all day long. Viber is amazing but the app does crash a bit but we just call right back.Works awesome for us. We literally call and text all day long for free. There is the occasions when her internet is a little sketchy but can't beat it for all the free calls and text.

Has any one used Hawaiin Airlines to bring there fiance to the Usa? They have good fares for the dates Im planning her travel and after calling customer service they allow third party credit cards to purchase tickets online with no need to show credit card when checking in on flights from the Philippines.

Flight is Manila to San Francisco . Layover in Honululu hawaii

1. Is POE in Honolulu for this flight? or San Francisco

2. If it is in Honolulu the layover is only 1 hr 50 minutes would that be long enough?

3. Did you in fact not have to show credit card like I was told on the phone ?

PhilippinesFastest Way to Send Documents to the Philippines

For a K-1

I found a really cool collapsible file holder with removable color coded poly folders that was probably a good portion of the weight. I did also however enclose over kill on the documents as well. It gives my fiance confidence having everything and confidence goes a long way during the interview.

My fiance has met several girls during cfo and medical who have aleady now had there interview . The general consenus was:

Be confident and know all the info you can about your fiance. If you can answer the questions easily the rest will be very easy. All the girls were also above the 125% poverty guidelines.

1. Appointment Letter

2. 2 DS 156 Forms

3. 2 DS 157 Forms

4. 1 Ds 156K Form

5. NSO Birth Cert

6. Cenomar

7. NBI Clearance

8. I-134 and supporting docs
A. 2011 Tax return or Tax transcipts
B. 2011 W2
C. Employment letter
D. A few recent paycheck stubs

9. Pictures together

10. 3 Visa Photos ( This Im not sure about. Some are telling us to bring and pre attach to DS Forms? Can anyone answer this ?)

Other than that they are reporting that very little secondary evidence is being looked at. They are asked if they have it and most of the time just being told to put it away. If looked at its just glanced through.

It appears if you can answer all questions about your relationship ,your relationship is sincere, your I-134 and supporting docs prove you are above the the 125 % poverty guide line and wont become a public charge that it will be a easy interview .

I think the reason everyone is advised to bring overkill on secondary evidence is in the rare occasion you get red flagged and pulled in the dreaded room. You will want every doc you have to back up your relationship.

I figured this woukd be useful to the OP as he also has his interview coming up. This is the experiences that are being shared with my fiance and I.

Is this similar to what you all are experiencing ?

PhilippinesErratic period right before St. Luke's EXAM
She will be able to complete everything except physical exam. She will have to come back after her period is over for Physical exam and vacinations. I would still have her go because when she returns after period is over she will have a short second day of just physical exam , vacinations and get her results . It also depends on her location and how easy it is to get to St Lukes as the period will likely delay the physical exam one week from the first day of medical so exspenses could make it not worth while.

I have contacted St Raphael Travel and Tours in Metro Manila. They quoted me a price for oneway Manila to San Francisco on Dec 3 for $587 on Cathay Pacific. That is total price including 1620 pecos Philippine travel tax. They said they can offer these special rates for K1 Visa applicants on three airlines, Philippine Air, American Airlines, and Cathay Pacific. I have never used them so I have been reluctant to purchase the ticket. I am glad you posted this topic because I am also wondering if these travel agencies are legit. Their prices and discount first time immigrant fares are very cheap. Im really tempted to buy ticket as I really like Cathay Pacific.

PhilippinesWhat is needed from Fiance for initial I-129F
You wont find it in the guide and wont need it until the interview phase but I always suggest if possible get a xerox copy of her NSO Birth Certificate. It is common in the phil to have wrong spellings , dates etc. You wont send it in with your I-129F packet but using it to cross reference information you put in forms avoiding discrepancies between Birth Certificate , Passport ,and paperwork you can come up with what will work best to avoid possible delays.

PhilippinesHow soon is TOO SOON?
I met my fiance in Jan and went to visit her in May. We submitted our I-129F the first week of June. We just received our visa today 138 days from filing to visa in hand. The entire process went extremely smooth and never was the length of relationship or the fact I only visited her once a issue. What is important is you meet the requirements to file. Meeting the requirements is all that is necessary to file. Then just make sure to submit the necessary forms, documents , and proof that is in the instructions. I personally know many couples who have filed. Alot had even shorter relationships than mine and yours. None had a problem at all. The shortest was my brother. While we were on vacation a few years ago he met a girl in the Phil and filed the I-129F as soon as he got back to the USA. None including my brother had any issues at all. Very smooth process for all because they followed the instructions and made sure everything was done correctly. To answer your question you can fiile and will have no problem on the length of your relationship or the fact you only met once . If you have the time to meet more than once it certainly woukd be recommended but like myself alot of us cant get the time off work to do so.
