Adric & Michelle, congratulations!!

JKD, the NVC case number that you got in the letter from them is the case number from here on out. How and if you can track it through the Rio consulate I don't know, because that varies from consulate to consulate.

Come on, CSC, we are still waiting for some approvals here!

Tars, when I saw your handle as the last reply, I was hoping it meant you got your NOA2. Halle got hers about two weeks after VSC got their reply to their RFE and I think JKD88's time frame was similar, so I think it's going to be coming very soon! (Where is the clairvoyant Meridien when you need her?)

Every time I talk to my fiance on the phone or get an email from him, I hope he's going to tell me Vancouver sent him packet 3. There is always something new to wait for.

Wow! Congratulations, K & W!!

Now let's see some more good news from everyone else who is still waiting.

JKD, how the interview is scheduled varies from consulate to consulate, so you might want to ask other people going through the same consulate. You can also check the consulate reviews section. It won't be from USCIS though; it will be the consulate scheduling it and letting you know the date through whatever procedures they have set up. I think most consulates send a letter via snail mail to the non-US fiance.

Here is a link to the contact information for NVC. What the link does not tell you is that it is virtually impossible to get through except late at night New Hampshire time. The general concensus seems to be that the best time is after 10 pm Eastern Time. When you call, you need to follow the prompts to speak to a live operator, and you will need to know the beneficiary's name and birthdate and your receipt number from USCIS.

Also, check Applewow's thread here.

Tars, you're right that calling USCIS is useless. You know more than whoever you spoke to. I don't want to give you false hope--it CAN take them months to finish your case after an RFE--but for the vast majority of people on VJ anyway it has been more like Halle's two week delay. I'd say if you don't see any touches on your account in the next two weeks, call them again. They will be just as unhelpful on the phone, but it might spur some action.

Now let's hope for some good news from Tars, Roselinda, Lucian's Girl, and everyone else who is still waiting. And from Lucy4!

JKD, to answer your question about how long it takes--right now it is taking an average of about 3 weeks to get from CSC to NVC to the consulate. To see how long it takes to get through your consulate, click on the "processing times" link at the top of this page, then click the link for "K1 visa processing times" (under the graphs on the right). Scroll down to "Step 6--Embassy processing times." At the bottom of that paragraph, where it says "view processing time for several popular consulates here," click on the word "here."

Anyway, before you head down there, you might want to make sure you have all the documentation you need to get from home. I don't know what Brazil requires, but you will PROBABLY need to get the supporting documentation for the I-134 (affidavit of support). If you check the embassy/consulate reviews, you may find one that tells you exactly what will be in your packet 3 and what you will need to provide. (Yes, I'm sure you've already thought of this, but just in case you hadn't!)

I know what you mean. We were among the earliest CSC October approvals (even now, I think nearly half are still waiting), but at least for people who filed in the first week of October, we were one of the last to get our NOA1. And that was when Southern California was having those wildfires so I was panicking wondering if our petition was lost in the ether! At least the touch means they are working on it and it is not lost in the ether. It may well be your approval, and if it's not, it is probably coming soon.

Well, they seemed to know quite a bit about the case, asked for my receipt number, etc.. .pulled up the file on their screen and basically said what I already knew regarding where the case was at but said it was DEFINATELY being dealt with atm. Now whether they have got to say that just to keep the peace, I don't know. I've not had any touches since the 26th of Feb.. so to me, it's hard to see that it's actually being looked at.. *shrugs* I'm not a 100% sure if I was transferred to an immigration officer, he gave his name and his number, whatever that means! biggrin.gif Thanks for your reply!!!

In that case, it sounds like they were at least able to look up your specific case, whether it was the person working on it or just a customer service person, so that seems promising at least.

Where did you mail it from, Halle? Was it from the UK? I'm in the midwest and mail from here to Laguna Niguel can take over a week. When I lived in Europe, mail from my parents could take as much as 3 weeks. I wouldn't be too worried about the delay at this point. I kind of wonder whether she actually checked that the paperwork had been received, though.

I have heard that sometimes you don't have to do the interview for Adjustment of Status, maybe the person you were talking to was confusing those two stages of the process? Just a thought...

That makes sense. Probably more than my explanation (Meridien is probably less cynical and suspicious than I am). Halle, do you know if you were transferred to an actual immigration officer? The only time I ever called the 800 number for USCIS, the person I talked to knew less than I did, and this was pretty early in the process (before we filed).
SonoranSongbirdFemaleCanada2008-03-06 16:14:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsOCTOBER FILERS
I can't imagine they will really give you the visa without an interview. The interview for you will probably be pretty straightforward--almost to the point of being a formality--but there are several additional forms (along with supporting evidence) that you submit to the consulate or embassy, and really, USCIS is not supposed to be looking at anything other than whether you are both free to marry each other, you've met in the past 24 months, and the USC is really a citizen, which means the consulate gets to evaluate that regardless of how obvious it is to the USCIS folks that you have a genuine relationship.

In all honesty, it sounds to me like she was making up an excuse for not having processed it sooner. The good thing about that is that it may also mean she recognizes that it really should have been done by now and will get on it right away.

Sorry if that isn't exactly what you wanted to hear. And the proviso is I don't really know that for a fact, but it doesn't sound very credible to me.

This might be a stupid question but I think we all know how these little things pop up in our heads throughout this whole process! hehe
Anyway, I got my hard copy NOA2 in the mail today. And it says that the packet is being, "forwarded to the listed consulate." There isn't a consulate listed on the actual NOA2 so I'm wondering if they mean the consulate we requested on our paperwork. I'm just wondering if there is any where that I can check that they are forwarding it to London as my fiance has dual citizenship in the UK and New Zealand. Thanks!

Sorry, I did not see this post sooner. Congratulations on the NOA2! If he is living in the UK, they should be sending it to London. My fiance also has dual citizenship (UK/Canada) and ours will go to Vancouver.

I forgot that it actually says "applicant". That does make it pretty unclear. Basically it is a poorly drafted form used for multiple purposes. But yes, as Mox said, you put your name as "applicant" on the set with your information and your fiancee's name in the "applicant" box on the other set.

We are supposed to get 8 inches of snow with heavy winds tomorrow, so I will be home all day with nothing to do but obsessively call the NVC to see if they got my petition.

Exactly! True, calling and getting them to tell you that the file is physically still there may be good for piece of mind, but otherwise, it isn't all that helpful.

As for your receipt date, there should be two dates on the NOA1 that they send in the mail. One is what they consider your "receipt date" and the other is the date they issued the NOA1. The receipt date should be something a lot closer to when you actually mailed it. Obviously they do not process them in precisely the order received, but at least theoretically it is the receipt date (not the NOA1 date) that they go by. So you are ahead of me and Meridien, even though that does not necessarily mean you will get it sooner. UGh. Good luck to you. This waiting thing really is difficult.

Ack, you filed in September, Roselinda. In all honesty, I'd probably be in panic mode if I were you, but it would be an unfounded panic. Even though there are a few people from mid October who have gotten their approvals already, they have still only done about 2/3 of the September petitions, and there are quite a few from August and even earlier that are still pending. Touches don't really mean much--it could be an RFE (bad!), an NOA2 (good!), or someone just picking up your file to read while taking a dump (okay, or maybe moving it to a different immigration officer or some such thing). It is comforting to see them, because it at least shows they've not lost the file (I guess) but not seeing them isn't cause for worry at this point. It's also quite possible that they HAVE worked on your file without noting it in the system. I think that has happened for some people as well.

Is it ever too early for a celebratory drink? We got our first touch yesterday too. Heh. We need to invent a USCIS drinking game. If we drink every time anyone waiting for an NOA2 checks the site compulsively, we will all be raging alcoholics and at least 60% of us may die of alcohol poisoning, but maybe something a bit less obvious. Every time someone gets an RFE for informaiton already sent or gets yelled at for using the RFE trick, take a swig (I need a drink!). Every time someone gets an approval, packet 3, or interview date, take another swig (Nazdrovia!).

Congratulations to Melusine (and anyone with a recent approval I might have missed).

Tars, sorry to hear your touches were an RFE. From what I have seen, though, MOST people on here who have gotten RFEs have sent back the requested evidence and gotten their approval almost immediately thereafter, so the lost time is really the time needed for the mail to go both ways (which can still be two to three weeks). The 60 day window is mainly to cover their butts. It is POSSIBLE for it to cause a longer delay, though it's pretty unlikely.

I feel like I've been engaged for-freaking-ever. I am a dedicated non-girly-girl who wants to throw things every time I read how I have "dreamed of my wedding day since I was a little girl." I have not either! But now I am starting to. Ugh! Hurry up, USCIS!

Congratulations to Sweety&baby and kcgreene!

Also, thank you for posting your good news. Kcgreene filed at CSC, so that is especially encouraging--and knowing that it is conceivably possible that they've issued the NOA2 without updating their system is even more encouraging (my NOA1 took 8 days to reach me by mail, and I expect the same for the NOA2---this is what I get for living in the middle of the cornfields...).

Halle, sorry to hear that, but don't get too discouraged---the don't call until 60 days thing is to discourage you from calling. Unfortunately, there is no guarantee they won't take that long, but it will more likely be pretty quick once they get it. Most people who have gotten RFEs have gotten their approvals as soon as they mailed back the requested information, although there have been exceptions.

Oh, sorry, Halle. I just noticed you filed in Vermont. Vermont is faster than California. Although I think there are still some couples still waiting who filed in September and August there as well, they ARE already approving October filers at VSC. I believe the site says that it was last updated on January 15. Also, theoretically, the "July 19" means that date is the oldest application they are still working on, but it is more likely what Meridien said (that they pick a date a month behind the bulk of the petitions they are working on) because I know there are a few earlier than that date that are still pending.

There have been quite a few approvals from CSC for people who filed at the end of September, which is encouraging to me since I filed at the beginning of October. BUT the late September filers getting approvals now are a bit faster than what seems to be average.
