US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionPushing back Interview
Hello again! I'm here again hoping you can all give me some of your wisdom. :)

My fiance and I are at the point where you schedule the interview at Vancouver. However, I'm wondering how far can you push it back? This is what we want to do.

We want to marry in March. There is nothing planned, we would just have a quick ceremony at the courthouse for that date, so if need be it CAN be rescheduled... though we really want this date, it's our anniversary. However, we still want to make a visit in December for Christmas, but if we get the visa soon, I will enter and won't be able to leave and our date in March is way too close to the 90 day expiry. Are we able to just wait until October (4months since approval, when our NOA2 is about to expire) and request an extension? Is marrying in March a valid reason to get an extension or do you think we'd be denied? Or do you know if we are able to schedule in say, January right now without worrying our NOA2 would expire?

I apologize if I'm a little all over the place, hope this all makes sense. Thanks so much for your time and your replies!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionNOA2 Extension
Hello!

The expiry of our I-129F approval is coming up. I'm confused as to how we ask for an extension. I see there's a formal document, but it looks like you send that in the mail? Can I send an e-mail, how do I word it? Thank you for any help!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionImmunizations

MMR - you require 2 shots to be immune. All you need is your immunization record and if you only have 1 shot then you tell them you need your second shot and bring the record to show them. This is free if you haven't had 2 shots.

Thank you so much~

Now I'm wondering if you could answer me something else. I know on the Woking Medical website it specially says you need MMR (not "MR" or "MM"). However, on my records, I've have one shot of Mumps and Rubella ('87) and two shots of Measles ('87 and '97). Would you happen to know if that means I only need one shot Mumps and Rubella? I just want to understand this before I go to my doc so I know how to explain. Maybe I'm confused and don't know what I'm talking about, this stuff is hard, ha.

Hi!

I got a blood test done to see what shots I needed. Tdap didn't even show up on the results, and MMR was low or indeterminate. However, when I called to schedule an appointment at my public health unit, they said since I had documented shots for both already, I didn't need to get more and they wouldn't give them to me.

I do have an immunization card stating I had the shots as a child, but if my blood test says I'm no longer immune, will this card be enough? If it's not enough and at the medical exam they say I need them, will they simply give me the shots or send me away?

Any info is greatly appreciated!

CanadaMedical Vaccination Requirements....HELP!!!
Hey everyone! I was just wondering, where do you get proof that you've gotten these vaccines? I have little pieces of paper for most of them that the doctors gave my mom when I got them, does that count? Lol, also, I had chickenpox as a kid, is declaring that enough proof and showing my spots? Lol

Thank you :)

CanadaNews coverage re: immigration bothering you too?

This boils my blood ALL THE TIME. Oh noes, they might ask people for the proof of ID that the USCIS says I am LEGALLY REQUIRED TO HAVE ON ME AT ALL TIMES for the sake of proof of status! :bonk:

My whitey-white self got pulled into secondary processing at the airport because my greencard expires later this year. Woop dee doodley doo. I was calm and confident, it was fast, and when all was done, the woman complimented me on my nail polish and sent me on my way.

This BS about how people are going to be racially profiled (clearly I was racially profiled at the airport for being a non-US citizen  ) is totally ignoring the fact that you have to BREAK THE LAW FIRST. Sorry, but if I am speeding and get caught, the cop is well within reason to ask me for ID, and since I'm REQUIRED to have my greencard with me at all times ANYWAY, I certainly can supply him with my 'papers'.

I used to be a lot more sympathetic to illegal immigration before I had to go through legal immigration. It was such hell that I'd like to chase down and shoot all those people who tried to weasel out of going through it and thus made it harder for me. :girlwerewolf2xn:

I LIKE the way you think. :)

I was at a land PoE, but my list was more along the lines of "Box 1: Books. Box 2: Books. Box 3: More books.Box 4: Even more boks. Box 5: toys..." Etc. :D

Haha, I have a list like that, too! And on all my boxes it's marked box 1, box 2, etc.

Since we're on the subject of crossing the border, I had a question. My fiance will be flying into Canada and we'll be crossing the border with my vehicle. Will this be okay? Also, where can I get a vehicle import form? Thank you muchly for your replies. :)

CanadaQuestion about Welfare?
Hello everyone, I was hoping you could help me clear some stuff up.

I am the beneficiary, from Canada, my fiance is the USC. We'll be asking his parents to be co-sponsors, they know a little bit about the process. My fiance and his parents were worried about the affidavit of support, asking about welfare. The form only says "food stamps, supplemental security income, or temporary assistance for needy families".

My question is, what is and is not allowed? If there's a link somewhere explaining this in detail, if someone could point me in the right direction that would be great. My fiance was wondering about WIC, workman's comp, really anything that the government or state or whoever gives you money for or gives you a break on (like low income housing and stuff to that effect). I don't want to misunderstand and end up getting them in trouble!

I hope I described that well enough, not too sure of the proper wording sometimes. Thank you all for your responses!

CanadaWhich one?
Hey everyone.

We just recently sent off our I-129f and I'm looking into what documents we'll need for the next step. I know I need to get a new birth certificate, mine doesn't have the info they want. I'm born and raised in Alberta, and I know I can order a new birth certificate from Vital Statistics. However, there are two options that could be what I need and I'm just confused as to which I should order. There's the birth certificate which has all the info I need on it (name, gender, date of birth, place of birth, registration number, registration date, name of parents and their place of birth), but then there's the photocopy of registration of birth, which is a photocopy of the original registration, and also has all that info and says that it has an official raised seal and all that.

So, is there anyone out there from Alberta or anyone who knows for sure which one I need to get? Any help would be much appreciated!

CanadaDriver's License

Out of curiosity, how does it work to apply for a licence in the US if you never had a Canadian one? Just the general state by state testing/procedure? or is it different due to immigrating?

I'm wondering this, too! In case I can't get my driver's license in time.
DudersFemaleCanada2011-05-01 01:06:00
CanadaDriver's License

Are you talking about a " G2 " license, like you can drive alone but your not fully licensed for some things?

If so, you can use that to drive in the states yes. I always did with no issues, then again I was not speeding around like a jackass either lol.

I also changed my " G2 " to a full license in Nebraska. Our state only required the written/computer question part. They gave me a full US license from a partial G2 Canadian ( Ontario ).

Thank you for your response, I feel better. :)

CanadaDriver's License
I have a problem, hopefully you guys can help me with it.

Some info : I'm 24, I'm from Alberta (I've heard Alberta is the most strict province for licenses :( ), and I'm going to California.

I don't have my driver's license yet. I have a learner's, and have had it for years, so getting the driver's license isn't a problem. But I'll first only receive a probationary license. My fiance and I are hoping to be in the States by the end of this year or early next year, and it'll be two years before I qualify to take an advanced road test to get my full license. Will that be a problem in the States? I know I'll be required to do it all over again when I can get a California driver's license, but until then I want to be able to drive.

Can anyone help me with this? Thanks!

Hello VJ! I need your opinions.

I'm going over for a quick visit to the States to celebrate a birthday, and was wanting to bring some of my stuff over in suitcases. A duffel and larger rolling duffel, all they have in them are books and some stuffed animals. Do you think they'll see it in the scan and get suspicious? Should I just wait until I'm for real moving there to take that stuff over? Just wondering if anyone's tried to take over personal belongings ahead of time. I don't want them not letting me take my stuff with me. Thanks so much for reading!

CanadaTax Questions
Thanks so much for all your replies! <3 There's just these few I'm still not too sure on.

I just read that if I wire the money directly to our bank account in the States, that the bank will declare it so we won't have to on taxes or something? Is that true? If we still have to claim it on his US taxes, how does that work?

And for Canadian taxes can I mark 2011 as my departure year, even though I won't be moving until January or February 2012? December 17th is my last day at work, so technically I'm not making any sort of income come 2012, if that helps.

I'm really tax-inept, have noooo idea what I'm doing! Thanks!

CanadaTax Questions
Tax questions!

I'm the beneficiary from Canada, finance is petitioner from USA. We're thinking I'll probably move there end of January, beginning of February approximately.

First question, I need to send about $10K to his bank account (won't have my own yet), how will that work with taxes? We just go to H&R Block, what do we tell them?

Second question! How will my Canadian taxes work? All my tax stuff will be in Canada, can my father do it there? Could 2011 be considered my "departure year" even though I'm not leaving until end of January? And for 2012 taxes (I know, I like to plan ahead), we'll be able to just file regularly? I mean jointly of course, we'll be married by that time, but there won't be any silly cross-border stuff to worry about?

And third and final question, I'm closing my bank accounts here in Canada. Even though it's RBC, I'll be in California and all the branches I see in the States are on the East Coast, a little too far to travel if I have to make deposits and whatnot. However, I want to keep my credit card. Don't really know how that works, RBC has an American credit card, right? That won't affect taxes if I switch?

So, kinda more than three questions. Thanks so much for reading! Any info or suggestions are appreciated!

CanadaWaybill needed? Where??
Thank you, but I've already seen that. What I'm worried about is that the lady at the Vancouver Consulate said in order to get it sent to my address, I had to send them an e-mail with the waybill by the end of today (the 13th) but there is still no waybill. DHL has no use for the reference number. So I'm not really sure what to do. I really don't want my passport going to a pick up location 4hrs away (sadly, that was the closest option, blah).

CanadaWaybill needed? Where??
Hey everyone! We just had our medical and interview and passed :) I wanted to have my passport with visa shipped to my address, the lady told me I needed to do that ASAP, but I can't find the waybill CSC says I need. I read that people use the reference ID on dhl.ca but that doesn't work at all. She said I had to do it THAT DAY (12th) or 13th and I'm afraid if I don't get it in time I'll have to travel 4hrs to the nearest pick-up. Definitely not what I want, especially since I don't drive and no access to a vehicle.

What did everyone else do? I really need it shipped to my address! Please help! :(

For a K1? Not necessary...

Yeah, it says above that that type of proof won't prove that you've met within 2 years, I guess that's mostly for the interview or AOS or... whatever. I'm not sure yet, haha. It doesn't hurt, but it's not necessary.

Thanks. :)

Actually, consulates often ask for proof that a wedding has been planned such as a booked venue, guest list, caterer's receipt etc. Seems silly because you can't really plan a wedding until you know the date for sure and if the intending groom/bride will be there for certain. But that's what they want. And you give them what they want.

Lol, that's what I always thought. I don't understand it, but I want this to work, so they can have whatever their little hearts desire, lol.

I've made up a checklist for the I-129F, if that's what you're filing. I'll share it. (I'm pretty positive it's accurate, I've been researching this for months, lol). It has not only the items you'll need, but I've also added any notes I've come across. If anyone is reading this and sees something wrong, please PLEASE correct me, it would be a great help.

For the evidence, you don't need to send in everything listed there because there is probably going to be some things you don't have. Just gather as much as you can. Just remember to do your own research, too, double check EVERYTHING.

Sorry it's long, haha.

CHECKLIST
for k-1 visa

IMPORTANT! Make TWO copies of the entire package before you send it in. This includes the cheques too. You want to have a perfect replica of the package you are sending in. All Forms you submit must be originals with original signatures. Supporting Evidence you submit may be photocopies. Retain ALL original supporting Evidence since the USCIS has the right to check them by issuing an RFE. If you receive an RFE, follow the directions exactly, and make two copies of what you sent bank. During any future interviews the USCIS may also want to examine the original supporting evidence.
Mark on the envelope of your action (I-129F).

it's possible a round trip ticket could come back to bite you in the tail after you apply for AOS. This is what happened in this case:

Apparently, USCIS found out about the round trip ticket and presumed the applicant had actually left the country, with no record of returning legally. They approved the I-130, but denied the I-485 on that basis.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG235A Questions
Hi everyone.

First I'd like to say that this site is a treasure trove of information. I've been lurking mostly, but my fiance and I will be talking to his parents soon (to be co-sponsors, he's the US Citizen and I'm the beneficiary from Canada) and I'm filling out some of the forms he'll need from me. I have a few questions about the G-235A. Onto business:

1) Under 'Applicant's residence last five years', I've moved a lot and have come back to my parents' house, do I need to list all the times I've been back, so as not to leave gaps in time? Because it'll look like this, starting from 2007 -> Parents' house -> Apartment -> Parents' house -> Different apartment -> Parents' house. Or should I only list the different residences once? Lol, seems like a silly question, I'm sorry, but I just want to make sure I do this right.

2) Also, a question for both the applicant's residence and 'full address' of employer, I add the city, province and postal code, as well as the street address right? Because adding the name of the employer and the full address won't fit, so I need to put 'See attachment' in that line, right?

3) For 'applicant's employment last five years', in 2007 I had two jobs, one for a week if that and one for about a month before I quit and moved again. Even though I wasn't there for very long, should I add them anyway? That would equal six lines for that section, can I just add one of them or do I need to add both and put the extra on another attachment? Lol, I'm sounding a little paranoid.

4) For 'last occupation abroad if not shown above', I would just put 'none' or leave it blank? I have not worked or went to school in the States.

And finally, to add to the paranoia, 5) At the bottom of the page, it says I have to print my name and Alien Registration Number in boxes below. Do they mean type it out or print out the page and write my name? But I don't have an Alien Registration Number? Leave it blank, write 'none', write 'N/A'?

Thank you so much for taking the time to read this, I'll greatly appreciate any and all replies!! <3 :) And I guarantee I'll be back, haha.
