Russia, Ukraine and BelarusDo you truly love your fiancé???
Will my fiance is from the States and I am from Canada, so if I were not allowed he would move here in a heart beat. The only reason for me having to move to the States is because of his daughters and his family there, other than that he would have gladly come here instead, both countries are great! :star:

ChinaLess than two weeks notice for Consulate Intervieww?

gsxra's China Consulate Review dated June 21, 2011 states that he got less than 2 weeks notice for his wife's consulate interview. Is this usual/possible?

Not sure but that is great news for its better sooner than later. Just go prepaired, have all of your paper work in order. Also they might not be busy so this may be the reason why you are given such short notice.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionUS Consulates in Canada

There are US consulates in virtually every major Canadian city, and a US Embassy in Ottawa. All of them provide emergency services to American citizens in Canada. All of them serve as local offices of the US Department of State, and as liaisons for the US Government with the local provincial governments, local media, etc. For example if the US government wishes to discuss something with the Premier of Manitoba, the meeting will probably end up being between the Premier and the head of the Winnipeg US consulate.

But only the Vancouver and Montreal consulates have "Visa Sections" - departments that issue visas, and only the Montreal visa section issues IR-1 and CR-1 visas. That means that if you need a visa, you have to travel to the consulate whose visa section issues it.

Make sense?

thank you for being more specific, I should have written more, lol!

CanadaCanadians that have a fiance in the States, Their fiances filed petition for them K-! visa

Have you gotten your NOA1 yet?
You should have by now.

It seems you're waiting on your NOA2, the approval at the moment. You're within processing times, you might see it by the end of the month. Hoping you do.

Of course you can go visit, just make sure you bring ties to Canada. Things like a letter from your employer saying that they're expecting you back from your trip and at a specific date, copy of a lease is good too! If you have your NOA1, bring that too; it shows that you're not going to just go marry and stay in the US... who wants to just throw away all that money you spent on a K-1.

As for how long it will take... Montreal seems to be speeding up a bit. You'll be having your interview there. I don't really want to guess, but I'm thinking around... June-ish? It'll be easier to guesstimate once you get your NOA2.

Thank you very much, the interview is going to be in Montreal. So once I have the NOA2 and my letter from my employer and my lease then I will make arrangements to travel there, so maybe your saying that I maybe able to go to the states by Oct/2010 for getting married, sorry for being so out of it

CanadaCanadians that have a fiance in the States, Their fiances filed petition for them K-! visa
My fiance and I got engaged on April 24th/09,

We didn't realize that we would have to go through so much paper and just how complicated and time consuming it would be. Is anybody out there from Toronto, that has a fiance in the States, My fiance and I have a lawyer and had the k-1 visa sent out at the end of Nov/09, I am not sure what to expect next, also haven't received a client # yet, does anybody have a clue as to what is going to happen next and how long to some extent this entire process is going to take. Also about visiting the States, I don't want to be turned away and lose my plane fare, just seems all to overwhelming for me and I have been depressed and crying for the most part, I feel like an idiot but I can't stop crying and worrying about everything.

CanadaCanadian Guilt?

After the years of going through so many phases (TN status, to marriage to Green Card, to Citizenship) I realized everyone has pretty much the same path with regards to the marriage part, regardless for the country. I know some people from 3rd world nations that seemed to get it a lot easier then me. Many countries have the Green Card lottery which Canada is excluded from. I knew a girl who came here and immediatly got a green card without ever even visiting the US before in her life and became a permenant resident GC holder because of the lottery. That is who would have the guilt if someone had to have it. I worked my #### off and went through hellish forms and interviews and so on, I don't have one bit of guilt in my body at all...

I have not had it easy at all, and no I don't feel guilty at all. Just hope good honest people maybe able to get to be with the one that they love sooner.

Canadawedding bands, wearing in pictures while fiance was here

In Canada, we have the ridiculous good fortune that the consulate officers tend NOT to assume that we are all desperate third-world con artists who will say and do anything to get a visa (unlike some consulates you will read about here :\ )

If they even ask about the ring, which is unlikely, simply tell the truth: that it is currently an engagement ring and the ceremony will turn it into a wedding ring. My USC fiancee wore her ring through the entire engagement. We just added a couple of bands at the ceremony, but the difference wouldn't show up unless the photo was taken from less then a foot away.

thank you! I just worry to much and feel rather lonely and lost right now. It hasn't been that easy going through this process and not being able to be there for my fiance and his daughters that have been bothering him about when I am coming back and so on. Not to mention the not knowing as to when we are going to be allowed to get married puts a damper on buying my wedding dress and inviting his family there not to mention mine.

In reading this and your post the other day:

My advice? You really REALLY need to stick with Canadian content. Canadian reviews.

okay! thanks

Canadawedding bands, wearing in pictures while fiance was here

I agree with Trailmix. Canadian K-1 interviews are generally pretty straightforward and easy. Ours took no longer than 10 minutes- we were asked to clarify some points on our documents, how we met, how often we visited each other and when we were planning on getting married. That was it! They aren't there to trap you or catch you in a lie. My husband (then fiance) came to my interview with me in Montreal and they actually talked to him more than they talked to me!

lol!

Congrats and I am glad that you have made it through to be with your fiance now husband, oh how I long for that day to.

The human brain is an amazing device. It can play the weirdest mind games without even having to smoke some really good stuff.

Really pointless to compare godforsaken places like Afghanistan, Iran, Iraq, Pakistan or high fraud countries like Nigeria -- in short countries where people would eat their own grandmother to get the hell out of -- with civilized ones like Canada, France, or Italy. Or is there?

Your to funny, hehehe! love it!

The process only differs at the Consulate stage, and if you're going to a US Consulate in Canada, you'll be fine. I'd advise you to take off your wedding bands (but not the engagement ring(s)) for the interview; if they ask about it, be honest. They only really care that you haven't married yet and are still free to marry. I doubt you'll have much trouble with Montreal.

Thank you very much!

Canadawedding bands, wearing in pictures while fiance was here

Some countries frown upon stuff like that. Some countries are very traditional... you kind of have to look it like that too. I seriously doubt the officer in Canada is going to give you a hard time over that kind of thing. If they ask and you answer honestly, then you're okay. Don't change dates or anything, just be honest.

I am a very honset peson, and I just don't want us to get stuck at some point because we allowed our emotions to take over, not knowing that we were wrong, or could be seen as being so. :crying:

Canadawedding bands, wearing in pictures while fiance was here
just read earlier today about a case where in an interview some one had been denied for the simple fact that they expressed being like husband and wife, not to mention another one where they had gotten engaged while she was getting her devorce, I am so terrified about this whole entire process that a padded room will be waiting instead of a husband to be,

Can We change our engagement day , or what can we do in order to prevent being denied. Also the pictures of my fiance already brandishing his wedding band in them, is this going to be a problem, he wears the band to say just how much he loves me and because of the distance, but it is not because we deem ourselves married at all. Any help

Hello,
I am ready to send my CDN passport renewal application to Quebec, and am really, really nervous about sending my original "Certificate of Canadian Citizenship Card". Could anyone share their experiences about sending valuable documents by mail, and what is the safest way to do it? I am thinking about UPS or Fedex overnight, but still worry about it.
I can't do the simplified renewal since I am changing my last name to my married name.
Thank you.

sending it by UPS Or Fedex is a safe bet, they also have a tracking system to, go for it you'll be okay! Congrats

CanadaCanadians feeling guilty about taking jobs away from Americans?

As an 'American', it doesn't bother me at all for LEGAL immigrants (no matter where they are from) to work here. I do have issues with some that take jobs requiring them in interact with the public, but don't know how to speak any English. But that's another issue entirely.

If my husband wants to become a US citizen, that's fine. If he doesn't, that's fine too. It is entirely up to him.

Edited to include: It was pointed out to me several years ago that we are all from North America. So I try to say US citizen instead.

I agree with the not being able to speak english part, that is a common problem here in Toronto, I went into a bank a Spadina and dundas, and the lady at the counter couldn't even speak a word of english but yet she works in a bank, go figure

CanadaAnyone feel like they've made a huge mistake?

Hehe yeah exactly! And when I make something and the flavor is just a touch off I'm like "I wish I could get X down here, it would taste the same" (the mayo thing was cuz I tried to make my mom's tatar sauce and her egg salad, and neither of them taste right. Its just a wierd feeling lol.

Once you figure where to shop and not too things tend to fall into place, its just very painful until than. I am not living there yet but at least I had the experience first hand and now I am good to go :bonk:

It's funny, the first time I visited the states was when I came across with my husband for a 3 week visit. Prior to that I never came here. All of my friends and peers had come for visits, vacations and everything. I was always the odd one out who had never been here. Funny that I live here now.

The last time I had visited the states prior to Greg and our relationship was back when I was 18 years old, now look at me trying to get through this process to marry an American,lOL! just crazy how life works out in the end,
sleepy in SeattleNot TellingCanada2010-09-23 16:13:00
CanadaAnyone feel like they've made a huge mistake?

Yes. I've actually told my husband that a few times. Without knowing all the stuff down here, without having a job, without knowing anyone..I feel like I'm a big pain in the butt. I feel like I talk too much but thats because hes the only one I have to talk to. I don't know where things are, whats fun to do, etc..and while I'm getting better at it still feels like im a teenager begging someone to take me out cuz I can't drive on my own (though I can actually, and I have a car, but I don't want to be lost down here). I've noticed things taste different. Ketchup I don't have an issue with as much but Mayo...My mom made stuff that calls specifically for miracle whip, and the stuff here isnt the same. Everything tastes wierd to me when I make it cuz of that. Theres a few things like that, that just happened to be the one that popped into my head. I don't know, most days I'm fine. I love it down here, I love my husband, I love the adventure. The move didn't bother me, I'm a military brat so I'm use to it. But sometimes I just REALLY want a Harvey's burger or those little creature comforts that aren't here, and it makes me all weepy. I wouldn't say I'm so much homesick as stuffsick. This is my home, I never feel like its not, but sometimes I just really miss the stuff.

That was funny how you had mentioned the stuff part, while visiting Greg in Tacoma,WA I found that I had to start all over again in locating products that would work for me, cooking was like a science experiment, lol!hehehe Lets not forget trying to find the hair colour that I needed to colour my hair with, after 5 stores and still no luck I messed up my hair colour, lol! Life is a highway and I want drive it all night long, ehehhe! hugs and good luck good point!
sleepy in SeattleNot TellingCanada2010-09-23 16:11:00
CanadaAnyone feel like they've made a huge mistake?

First of all I commend you on your courage to express your feelings the way you have. Your not the first or only woman, or person, who is going through or has gone through what you are feeling. Relationships are all about compromise...when we are single it's only about one person and it's easy to be all about you. But relationships are hard because you are now one of two...and we cannot control the others feelings or actions, all we can do is pray the other person puts us first and we in turn should put them first and things should flow because you make each other happy.

It sounds as though your in a process of building for each other, he's studying now and you sacrafice. You have to look at the big picture not just what your feeling on your end. I'm not saying that your wrong to look at things the way you are but everything is life is a matter of perception, glass half full - glass half empty so to speak. So with that said, you can look at all your giving up, at how you feel now in this moment or you can hold tight to the promise of what is to come, when its your turn to live the dream you wanted for you, with the man you love at your side. You definately have the ability to communicate your feelings which in itself is half the battle. If he loves you the way you love him that in itself should make holding on worth it. Don't stay in the moment of hard times now, snap out of it and invision the future you are building together. Don't give up...true love is so hard to come by and your journey is far from over...

A wise man once said "If your going through hell, KEEP GOING"! Be strong see the potential of what is to come and keep it going. God bless you and give you both the strength, patience and love to hold on.

I agree with you 100%!

In Canada this could have happened to, so remember that your in it for the long run and eventually it'll be your turn to return back to your dreams etc... Be strong remember that your life is about two and not just one. Cheer up finding someone special is more important than the other stuff, you don't know how many people that I meet that have everything but lack the most important thing, LOVE, Love to share with another and the rest of their lives.

CanadaMontreal

I wanted to put in a few things that happened in Montreal when I arrived for my interview. First off I was staying at Tour du Centreville hotel which is right across the street from the consulate. Medysis had told me to phone before coming to pick up my medical results so i phoned from the airport. She couldn't find them!!!! That caused a bit of stress. After 10 mins on hold she came back on and said they were there. Whew!!! So I figured since I had time I would check out the 747 bus route. I talked to the driver and he said there was a stop a block from the hotel. It would be stop #7 and they announce it. So on the bus I go. There was two guys sitting beside me, one asked me if I knew were I was going? I said I didn't have a clue. They were from Sydney Nova Scotia. The driver had told me which stop i needed but after about 5 mins my mind went blank and couldn't remember other than stop 7. I noticed a women lower in the bus with a map of the bus route so went and asked her if I could see it. She was from Saskatchewan!!! She was to get off at the same stop as me. Well with all the windows open and the noise of the bus, when they made announcements you could barely hear him. The guys beside me said I think they just announced your stop. But I looked out and saw the stop but he went right on by!!!! Sheesh, now what? Someone else on the bus said you have to push the button. None of us thought of that!!! so we got off at the next stop and the lady stopped a guy on the street and asked him to help us find out way. He was very helpful and pointed us in the right direction. so if you are staying at that hotel, get off at the Jeanne-Mance stop, go south one block and the hotel is right there. I would recommend the bus to anyone staying along Rene Levesque Blvd. Got to the hotel and they people behind the desk were very friendly and helpful. They pointed out the Consulate and told me how to get to Medysis. Go South to third set of lights, cross the street and walk up 5 blocks to Sherbrooke, turn right and about a block is the medical office. When I got there again they said they couldn;t find my results!! Then she said oh here they are, please take a seat and she took them to the back. Of course the mind is playing tricks again at this point, "now what can be wrong?" "did they find something and the Dr has to talk to me?" ####### like that. Unnecessary stress. After about 5 mins she called me up, handed me the package, said don't open it and I was out of there. Found lots of little shops to shop in along the way back to the hotel.

The room itself at the hotel was good. The room smelled musty when I got in, so just opened the windows and it disappeared. The room, especially the bathroom, was extremely clean. It was no Hilton Hotel but I was comfortable, got some food and ate right there. It had a kitchen, dining area and sitting area. I slept like a log so the bed was comfortable. Overall a good experience.

Oh when returning to the airport, I went back to the Jeanne-Mance stop, went to get on the bus, the driver asked where I was going, I said airport so he said you have to catch it on the other side of the road. So over I go, next bus, get on, hand him my ticket from the day before because the ticket is good for 24 hours, so so I thought. He said no good as it had to be within the same day, not over two days!!! So got off the bus to get change as they only take exact 8.00. I dug in my purse, found the change and caught the next one to the airport. They come about every 10 mins.

I hope this helps anyone else setting off for Montreal.

lol, memories, ehheheh glad everything worked out for ya in the end. :star:

CanadaName change back in Canada

Some days I don't know what my name is!

I changed to my husband's name wen I was first married and then kept it once we divorced because of the kids. My ex was fine with it and because we still got along so well, whenever we would be out at events with the boys I would still be referred to as "Mrs...." Then when I married my current husband he thought I should keep the ex's surname, again for the kids, who by this time were older. He didn't quite get that being married to him but keeping my ex husband's name would be weird...duh...

I am just now getting used to my new "third" name but I answer to anything.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reportssuggestions for person waiting for the NOA2 for the k1 visa

Do you enjoy losing your mind and being on an emotional rollercoaster, comparing your timelines to to others, fanning the flames of despair and frustration when learning that you will have to wait yet another day, week, or month?

If so...just start checking your timeline everyday, check the USCIS website once a day ( soon you will be up to five) and before you know it you too will be a stark raving mad lunatic, just like most of us were waiting for NOA2, except for the saints among us

Yes you too can lose your mind daily and cripple yourself emotionally with just a minimum of effort by getting fully involved in reading the tea leaves on USCIS processing methods.

OR......

you can stay away from the USCIS website and Visa Journey , just stay busy doing other things until..poof..like magic your NOA2 shows up in your mailbox with no special mystical sacrafices required....but what fun would that be?
