Just got a text saying the card was mailed yesterday. I never would have guessed we would be able to renew my wife's license with the 10 year green card instead of the one year extension letter. This went so much faster than I expected.

 

Every one of the eight approvals are people who originally filed with CSC - none of them are people who originally filed with VSC.  Congrats to the lucky CSC folks!

You will get a different number, when they request a biometrics appointment. That is the number that will start tracking your case online, after biometrics are done.

We did our biometrics a long time ago, as shown in this thread's CSC/VSC tracking table, as well as in our VJ signature file (see below). We did early biometrics - it was completed well before the date of our appointment.

*** Update: Now the whole USCIS "Check Your Status" web page is down!!

On the USCIS website when we enter our case number, it says "Your case can not be found at this time in My Case Status. Please check your receipt number and try again. If you need further assistance, please call the National Customer Service Center at 1.800.375.5283."

 

No email notifications from USCIS & as of today, no letter either.

 

Not sure what to make of it.

Biometrics completed today (early) :-)

We went in yesterday at 2:30 to get our biometrics done early (our appointment is not until 8/14, so we were 2-1/2 weeks early!). The only questions we were asked were "Are you traveling?" (Yes) and "Have you bought your ticket yet?" (No). The ASC was pretty crowded and staffing was short so they couldn't take us that day, but they told us to come back the next day (i.e., today) before 2:00 and they would take care of us.

We came in today at 1:50 and were all done by 2:15. They have airport type security at the facility, so you have to empty your pockets of all metal devices (which go through the X-ray scanner) and then step through the metal detector, and then put everything back into your pockets. Then it's into the ASC office, which is very much like an airport terminal's "waiting to board my flight" area. Then you present your Green Card and Biometrics Appointment Letter, fill out the top part of a single-page form, take a number, then go back to a cubicle for photograph & fingerprint scanning with the kind and helpful ASC staffer, and you're done! Quick and easy. They put all kinds of stamps on our Biometrics appointment letter, thus converting it into our documentary proof that we had completed the biometrics process (our "receipt").

Looking at the threads for earlier months, it looks like it's usually OK to go early for biometrics as long as you go at 2 or 3 in the afternoon when the place is usually empty. And they really want you to show your green card rather than a driver's license (even though the DL is technically OK).

Look at the left side of Linney's post - the user profile shows CSC as the filing location.

But the timeline shows that CSC was the Entry visa filing and VSC is the RoC filing, so Linney's user profile is out of date.

Hello everyone,
 
I filed for the removal of conditional status last July 11, 2013. I have a major concern though because the expiry of my 2yr GC is today. I checked the tracking number from USPS, the packet was delivered July 13, 2013. Does this mean I made it in time? Should I be concerned, or am I just being paranoid. Called USCIS hotline, the lady said it was okay, but took her a very long time to answer the question. Does anyone have a similar situation? And will I not be out of status?

Did you receive the NOA1? That document extends the validity of your Green Card by one year. If you have the NOA1 then your Green Card will actually expire in 2014 rather than 2013. If you haven't received the NOA1 yet, don't worry - your application was filed in time, and you should receive NOA1 within a few days. Also, please specify CSC or VSC so you can be added to the list...

The reason that the NVC and the US Missions abroad are being mentioned in this article is due, in part, to the fact that were a government shutdown to occur processing of visa applications at NVC and US Missions abroad could effectively cease :o until such time as the controversy in the USA is resolved and the US government "reopens" for business. Therefore, those with pending visa matters before the United States immigration apparatus should be prepared for possible delays in the visa process should the United States government shutdown."

We did check the DS-230 box, but simply checking the DS-230 box and waiting results in a rather long wait. Therefore we took steps to hasten the process along, as described here: http://www.visajourn...y-get-your-ssn/ The physical Social Security card arrived in the mail yesterday, exactly 2 weeks after Port of Entry!

Within 2 hours of arrival in Fort Lauderdale, we were at the Social Security Field Office applying for a Social Security card. They said that USCIS had not yet sent our data to the Social Security system's computers and that it would take a few days. We returned to the Social Security Field Office on Thursday October 13 & again presented our completed application for a Social Security card. They said that as of the day before (Wednesday October 12) we had an application pending for a Social Security card (because we checked off box 33a on the NVC's DS-230 form). The field officer opened up that application and started working on it, typing in the information we provided on the completed application form we had just given her. After entering all that data, the field officer submitted our pending application to the system. The system responded that our application was now verified and approved. The field officer then gave us a form saying that the Social Security card would arrive in the mail within two weeks. We need the number ASAP, but the form that the field officer gave us says that they won't give the number out over the phone. So we plan to visit the Social Security Field Office again Monday, to ask them in person to just tell us what the number is!

NOA1 arrived today from CA Service Center. Notice date 12/10/10, postmarked 12/14/10.

By The Way... it's not clear to me why VJ recommends (at http://www.visajourn...tent/i130guide1) Return Receipt Requested in addition to Certified Mail!

Anyone who can read VJ instructions obviously has internet access, anyone who sends Certified Mail can track it online via USPS.com, and a very fancy physical receipt will promptly arrive anyway (NOA1), so why pay the extra $1.50 or so for a physical Return Receipt from the Post Office?

My wife got a great deal on a phone card and she was going to use it to call me over time & then get a printout of our phone calls for the visa interview... until I read the Bangkok US Embassy's IV Packet 3 instructions (at http://bangkok.usemb...ckage_may09.pdf), which specify:

EVIDENCE OF RELATIONSHIP: In order to process your case, the officer must be convinced of your relationship with the petitioner. You must bring with you at the time of interview sufficient evidence that you have a legitimate relationship with the person who has petitioned for you, such as photographs, letters, detailed phone records from telephone companies (phone cards not acceptable :bonk: ), e-mails, old household registries and/or any other evidence that demonstrates your relationship with the petitioner over time. [emphasis and emoticon added]


Yikes!!! We very nearly went down exactly the wrong path! :o If I hadn't been pessimistic and forward-looking, we would have totally lost the phone records category of evidence!!! :bonk:

Got my email notification yesterday afternoon from Chicago Lockbox! Check still isn't cashed, NOA1 still hasn't arrived.

For no apparent reason, the notification said my paperwork was being routed to the California processing center. :o This is rather curious, since I live in Florida. :wacko: I thought I'd be routed to Vermont, or perhaps even Texas. :bonk:

Now if only we could find a third country that issues a white passport - then she'd have the three colors of both the Thai and US flags! :rofl: [India actually does issue a passport with a white cover, but it's only for individuals representing the Indian government on official business; USA has something informally known as a "white passport" which is really a re-entry permit, and it's not even white any more - it's green! Well, I am thinking that maybe I will set some kind of speed record for the CR-1 visa! I met my wife Nattanan online at OKCupid.com - my first message to her was August 28th, and she replied the very next day. I arrived in Bangkok, Thailand on November 19th, we got (L) married (L) on November 25th, I arrived back in Florida on November 30th, I had our CR-1 visa application in the Certified 1st Class mail on Saturday December 4th, and USPS.COM tracking shows that our CR-1 visa application (including a bonus CD containing scanned electronic copies of each and every document) was received in the Chicago lockbox on Monday December 6th. The check still isn't cashed, no e-notification yet, and I'm still waiting for the NOA-1, but all that should happen within a few days! :)

From VJ's CR1 guide:

The USCIS now requires that when filing an I-130 for a spouse that you include evidence of a bonifide marriage. They list examples of acceptable evidence as:
1. Documentation showing joint ownership or property; or
2. A lease showing joint tenancy of a common residence; or
3. Documentation showing co-mingling of financial resources; or
4. Birth certificate(s) of child(ren) born to you, the petitioner, and your spouse together; or
5. Affidavits sworn to or affirmed by third parties having personal knowledge of the bona fides of the marital relationship (Each affidavit must contain the full name and address, date and place of birth of the person making the affidavit, his or her relationship to the petitioner of beneficiary, if any, and complete information and details explaining how the person acquired his or her knowledge of your marriage); or
6. Any other relevant documentation to establish that there is an ongoing marital union.

(By the way, that should read "bona fide", vs. "bonifide" - VJ's CR1 guide should correct that typo!)

Suppose that you meet and marry your sweetie overseas, then return to the US and go the CR1 route while your spouse waits overseas for the visa. As a practical matter, nothing much has changed after the marriage, because the visa delay is causing a separation. No common residence, etc. So as a practical matter, how exactly does one meet the USCIS's requirement for evidence of a bona fide marriage in this situation? The only applicable method would seem to be dropping some money into a joint bank account, which would seem to me to be mighty thin evidence which is unlikely to be conclusive!
