National Visa Center (Dept of State)Do K-1 filers need to submit anything to NVC?

You guys are amazing. Thanks so much.

As for packets 3 & 4. I am worried they will never get to my fiance's house in the rural DR (mail does not get delivered there.) Is there any way I can get my hands on a copy sent to me here in the US? Or other suggestions for people who have been in similar situations?

Thanks,
Mari

I'm not positive, but it may depend on your consulate. We went through Montreal, QC and I (the US Citizen) received a copy of both packets 3 and 4. It might be worth checking out the Latin America/Mexico/Caribbean forums and asking there. Good luck!

National Visa Center (Dept of State)Do K-1 filers need to submit anything to NVC?

Hi Everyone,

I apologize in advance if I missed this info somewhere on here, but I would appreciate it so much if one of you VJ experts could clarify some NVC details :-)

Our paperwork is currently en route to the NVC (received NOA2 email on 1/5/11).
Do we need to submit anything to NVC?
Or is the next step bringing all the required paperwork to the interview?
If so, am I just waiting for an interview date at this point?
Does that come with the paperwork that will be sent to my fiancee in country? (I can also find out by calling NVC, is that right?)

Thanks SO much!

Mari

You don't need to submit anything to the NVC--it's usually just a quick pit-stop before they forward your case to the appropriate consulate. Your next step is waiting for packet 3! You'll submit everything they ask for in packet 3 and then you'll receive packet 4, which will contain your interview date.

Congrats on your NOA2! Good luck with the consulate!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIs this my interview date?

I got my interview scheduled. It was my fault. They changed this all over September 1.

MSR, when you go into the system, make sure you're picking "Permanently move to the USA (Schedule interview)", not K1/K2 like my dumb@ss self did!

When is yours???

CanadaWorking Remotely from the US
Hi all,

Long time lurker, first time poster!

My fiance and I are in the final stages of the K1 process, awaiting an interview letter from Montreal.

However, I wanted to pose a question to those of you who may have experienced a similar situation. Andrew works as a software developer for a company in Toronto, who really doesn't want to lose him when he moves here on his K1 visa, and they've offered to keep him, working remotely from our home in Philadelphia! I know this is done fairly regularly, but we're not sure how all the details work. Obviously he'll need employment authorization to start with, but I guess I'm just fairly baffled about the tax situation. Anybody familiar with this kind of situation?

Appreciate it!

Jess

DOH - you said P3 - i wasn;t very helpful

Hehe no problem! I see from your timeline you sent your checklist back on 4/20 for your 10/10 interview--when in between those two dates did you get your interview date assignment? Was it closer to the 4/20, or closer to the 10/10 date?

Anybody want to share the length of time between packet 3 being logged in and receiving your interview date/packet 4 from Montreal?

Everybody wants to know "when's the wedding???" but I just can't answer that...I know Montreal is soooo slow, but I'd really just like some idea of when I'll be able to set a wedding date!

CanadaSchedualing our own interview????

yes definitely call back and speak with someone else...she clearly has no clue what she is talking about.....

There was a change of some sort at all embassies effective Sept 1st, but I'm fairly positive it only applies to other types of visas for which you could always schedule your own interview (regarding paying for PINs, etc). I don't think this effects K-1s at all.

CanadaNot Visa Related: Things to do in Montreal
Hi all,

Andrew and I are going to be spending Saturday and Sunday in Montreal before our Monday morning interview. We've booked a room at Le Square Phillip Hotel and I'm wondering if any of you wonderful people are familiar with the area--any places we should go while we're there? Good restaurants?

Thanks in advance!

CanadaWhat is this new Montreal online scheduling thing about?
Yup, the K1 online scheduling system is up and running. You'll need to schedule an interview on there.

When I scheduled Andrew's interview, there were still dates throughout October available, and I don't remember whether options were available for November or not. Either way, you can schedule your interview from where you are now. I didn't pay anything online, and the packet 4 letter states that you'll pay your fee at the embassy.

Hope this helps.
Jess and AndrewFemaleCanada2010-09-16 15:32:00
CanadaSeptember Packet 4 recipients - BEWARE!!
What she means is that instead of an assigned interview date for K1s in Montreal, packet 4 now contains instructions for scheduling your own interview online, based on your "priority" date (the date you filed initially)'

There is a bit of confusion in the system as fast as the option you select-you don't select K1/K2. You have to choose the option for"permanently relocating to the us (ready to schedule). Hope this helps clear up some of the confusion.

CanadaNext batch of K1's waiting for interview in MTL

Just reading the link that Jess and Andrew provided

there is another link noted on that page,

http://www.usvisa-info.com/en-CA/selfservice/us_immigrant_visas

it states

Fiancé(e) (K) visas are not included in this section because they are nonimmigrant visas that are often processed by the immigrant visa unit. Information on this type of visa is included with the other nonimmigrant visa

Am i wrong to think we won't be scheduling our own interviews based on this information??

What do you all think?? :)

I think that's exactly correct--K1s are still going to be processed like immigrant visas--I believe non-immigrant visas always could schedule their own interviews, and will continue to do so, just with a slightly different system. We should have dates assigned in our packet 4s!

How many of you are planning a non civil wedding after POE? Am I the only one who is on crack and is tryign to do the seeminly impossible...especially on a budget with no planner?

Andrew and I have been planning a regular wedding since shortly after we got engaged. The only saving graces are that we both have small families, so we're only inviting about 40 people. I've got all my vendors picked out and they're all aware of the situation--and most have been super super understanding. I basically asked them the other day which dates they have available in all of November and December lol

Gratz to the people who got interviews! I called when I saw status updates, but was told we're not scheduled yet... didn't know I was supposed to ask specifically whether a letter has been sent out, rather than about the appointment date, so I'll try that tomorrow. Glad to hear K-1's are being scheduled again though! :) *trying to stay hopeful*

I'm not sure you even would have to ask... I didn't. Just my usual status check, and they said p4 was mailed yesterday As far as why they don't have dates recorded... no idea!

I believe it's only 2 or 3 couples at this point..........

They are "a coming" though.

Looks like 6 couples according to the timelines here.

In other news, I finally got a response this morning to an email I sent MTL over 2 months ago! Canada Post never showed Andrew's p3 as delivered, so I emailed them to confirm that they received it, and threw in a little question about when we can expect an interview letter. MTL forwarded it to the Dept of State, because their response comes from them, not from MTL. Here's what they said, for anyone curious:

Dear Ms. XXXXXXX:

This is in response to your email to the U.S. Consulate in Montreal, Canada concerning the
nonimmigrant visa application of your fiancé, Andrew XXXXXXXXXX. Your email was
forwarded to the Visa Office, Public Inquiries Division in Washington, DC for our response.

Our review of Department records confirmed that the Consulate has received your documents
and Mr. XXXXXXXXX’s case is currently pending an interview being scheduled. The U.S.
Consulate General in Montreal is facing a backlog of immigrant visa cases which affects their
ability to schedule immigrant visa cases. This backlog was caused by an unforeseen and
unpreventable staffing shortage. The Consulate is making every effort to reduce the backlog.

For future inquiries you may contact our office directly and a Visa Specialist will be happy to
assist you. You may reach us at 202-663-1225 Monday thru Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
EST.

I WISH that it were possible at this point. My fiance sent his p3 back in June and we anticipate getting our date in September for a late October interview--she probably meant that you'd get a date by the end of September, not have a September interview. Here's hoping for next week....

Jess, your dress is beautiful! & the girls dress is very very nice!
I bought my dress at Bridal Belle in Rochester NY. I walked in there & had the best service I have experienced ever. They were fab-u-lous! Just out of curiousity, I tried a few stores here in Ontario, & was I ever disappointed! They did not help me in any way. So I went back to Bridal Belle & got my dress. I haven't seen it online, but I will try to find a pic. Has anyone heard of barefoot sandles? I am thinking of wearing those, but just can't find the ones that I really love. http://sandals-flipf...pearlswhite.gif

Wowwwww that's really really cool for a beach wedding! Love the idea of the barefoot sandals!!! Heck, if I could get away with it at mine I would! Andrew is only a teeny bit taller than I am, so I have to be very careful getting shoes!

And let me tell you there are some funny looking dresses out there!

Agreed here! There was one dress my sisters tried on that was absolutely ridiculous on them. First off, they're both carrot-top redheads, and the sample color was hideous on them. Secondly, it was the most unflattering fit ever! They came out of the dressing rooms with identical looks of horror on their faces.

I love your dress! I like how soft and flowy it looks. I'm going to David's Bridal with my bridesmaids on Saturday. I hope I find something.

I think customer service at DB can be hit or miss. I honestly went there thinking of it as a starting point, intending to go elsewhere. But I lucked out with a fantastically helpful saleswoman--she was ultra honest and extremely supportive. I ended up falling in love with the 2nd dress I tried on--and one that she picked out for me!

But either way it's fantastically comfortable and I think it looks awesome. Andrew hasn't seen it, so it'll be a surprise for all :)

Hey Jess, My girls are 95% most probably going to be wearing the same dress in teh same color!!! Just waiting to hear feedback from one of them. How are you going about ordering yours, from what I can see there's no AA store in Canada...I was going to just ship to FI's house but I'm afraid by the time they get there I may have my visa and may not be able to cross to get them and bring them back to my girls since its a gamble if CBP will let you go in for a "visit" and not activate your K-1.....
any ideas?

I live in the Philadelphia PA area, so it was just a matter of about an hour's drive to Whitehall, PA to their store. Actually, it looks like there are some stores that carry Alfred Angelo in Canada! It's a different homepage than the US version: http://www.alfredangeloca.com I'm not sure how it works because they aren't specifically AA stores... but maybe try calling one and seeing if you can special order through them? All else fails, you could have them shipped to FI, and then have him ship them to you--but that gets super pricey. Hope that helps!

We are very excited about Hawaii! We are planning on being there for a week. Thurs. to Thurs. with the wedding on the beach at sunset on the Sat. Neither of us have big families. So, it will be small no matter what.
My dress is strapless, with that scrunched fabric look on the top & I will get it altered to make it a high low cut, since it's on the beach. I don't want anything long.
What does your dress look like? What colour is your girls wearing? What are your honeymoon plans?

I loooove the idea of getting the hem altered to make it perfect for your beach wedding!

Mine is long, with a chapel train. Here it is! It's not super ball-gown-ish, considering we're going fairly small, but I love it!
My sisters are going to be wearing this one!
As for honeymoon plans, we're going to wait until January or February of next year, if everything goes well. At that point, we're planning on heading to Disney in Florida for a week. He's never been there, and I haven't been since I was like 10. I think it'll be an awesome time!

Here's to another day, hoping and waiting for news from DOS/MTL!
