K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAN WE STILL APPLY FOR A FIANCE VISA EVEN IF WE HAVE BEEN TOGETHER FOR A YEAR AND A HALF?

Hi all,
I was wondering if you have any kind advise for me. My fiance and I have been dating for 1 year and 6 months(July 2 is our anniversary) . I know that in order for you to request a Fiance visa is that you have been together for 2 YEARS! I was hoping to send the application on April, but that's only 1year 9months.Anyway, is there a way they can waive that requirement,or is there a chance we can write a letter or something?
Question #2.I've heard that you need to attach translated documents when submitting your packet. Does that has to be notarized or can we just do it ourselves? My boyfriend lives in Paris. Does anybody know a place where you can get them translated? OMG! I'm desperate! I don't know if this is something we can do it ourselves or do we have to go see a lawyer? Some people say we can just do it ourselves ,but I'm scared we screw up or something.
Thank you soooo much for taking the time to read this :-)

You only have to have met in the last two years, so you are good to go there. I don't know about the translations since my wife is from Canada and all her docs were in English.

CanadaTax forms? anticipating NOA2 soon....

Ok, so I figure this has been asked a million times, but so help me god, I am terrible at navigating VJ and spent the last hour and more looking for an accurate answer to my question.... I'm at NOA1 status, NOA2 is due around June 24th, and hoping it comes sooner, so getting my papers together and getting my honey to get me whatever I need from him. I can't find the place where it says what tax forms I need from him for the next process. All I can see is the most recent year, or something about transcripts?? (#######?) so if you could help me figure out what it is I need to ask him for I would be grateful! :) thank you so much for your help and thank you also to those that pointed me to the Canadian forum. oh, and I will be going through Vancouver. :)

You can go to your local IRS office and they will print out the transcripts for you. I got the last three years, but, from what I understand, you only need the current (2010) tax year. It's free too.

I hope my fiance can get the transcripts in time. 5-10 business days is still within my interview date but it IS a government agency...

You can go to your local IRS office and walk out with the transcripts. Still free and much quicker than 5-10 biz days.

CanadaSpouse Visas waiting for interview in Montreal

My husband and I have been approved through the NVC, now we are just waiting on the date for our interview in Montreal. Our lawyer called the NVC because we waited the "2-4" weeks to hear from them and they said "yes, everything is complete, but since there are a bunch of staffers taking vacation in August, there aren't that many visa interview slots available." I just wanted to know what others have experienced and what we're looking at as far as timeline. Are there any people given Sept dates? We were really hoping for Aug, but I'll just keep hoping.

Thanks!

We had an early July NVC date for our K-1 and still waiting to hear from Montreal.

CanadaVisa approved!

Wow!!
Congratulations!!

I have my interview tomorrow morning and I'm super stressed/excited/nervous/can't wait :)

I have a few questions that I would super grateful for:

1. How long did the process last?
2. How early did you get there before your interview?
3. Did you have to submit pay stubs/letter from employer from petitioner with the I-894
4. What did you need to submit as proof of residence?
5. Is the visa actually approved the day of?
6. When will the visa actually be issued?

Thank you so much!!
And CONGRATULATIONS! Keep us posted :)

If you are asking about the entire process, we sent in our I-129F in late February. If you're asking about the interview process, we were in the building at 7:35 and out by 10.

We got to the Consulate at 6:50 and there were already 4 couple ahead of us.

We submitted pay stubs. We had everything imaginable with us because we've read that a lot of things were asked for so we decided better to be safe than sorry. Just bring everything you can think of. We had the letter from my employer, pay stubs, w-2's, tax returns, tax transcripts, etc. For residence I had a copy of my lease and my voter's registration card.

We were told that the visa was approved at the end of the interview. He told us that we should get our package from DHL within 5 days. I would guess those are business days.

Good luck on your interview. Just be prepared and organized and I'd sure you'll do fine.

Thanks everyone! We are happy campers for sure. We'd like to thank Visa Journey for enabling us to get through all the paperwork with a minimum of confusion. Thanks also to those that went above and beyond to hold our hands when we needed it. You know who you are!

CanadaAre american fiances allowed to go to interveiw with us?

Hello fellow Vjers,

Many fellow Vjers mentioned that they went to interview with their fiances(fiancees). My questions is: are they allowed to see the interview officers? I ask this because my fiance will go with me, if he is not allowed to interview with office but just companies me in line for hours i will feel sorry for him.

All comments will be appreciated!

I was allowed to go in in Montreal. I was even sworn in in case they wanted to ask me any questions.

We stayed there too and thought it was very nice also.

We ate at the italian restaurant just off the lobby and it was good, but I thought it was expensive.

Good luck on your interview!

CanadaMontreal Interviews

I have an Interview ?

The Consulate will have the original documentation that we already mailed in right? Like our original birth certificate, police check, etc? So all I need to bring are copies, right?

You should have sent copies. They will ask you for originals of those documents. If they do have the originals, maybe you'll be OK. I would err on the side of caution though and bring new originals if you can get them.

CanadaMontreal Interviews

i just called the panel physician in toronto to book my medical. she informed me that from what she has been hearing montreal is not booking interviews until november. i'm not sure if that means they are booking them for dates in november, or not actually scheduling the until november.

Well, if they aren't going to open up booking until November, it would be nice of them to let us know.

By the way, if anyone DOES manage to get a date, I hope you pop in here to let us all know :help:

Our interview is next week and we are seeking out good restaurants within walking distance from our hotel Any suggestions? Thanks all.

The restaurant just off the lobby is very good. A little pricey though (imho). We looked at it as a celebration. :-) That's the only place we ate.

CanadaRye

Okay, I'm a rye and ginger girl, and brought my Danfield's Reserve with me when I crossed over. I'm busy trying out the offerings available to me here, and was wondering if anyone has any reviews they'd like to pass along?

Danfield's is a dry rye, very oaky/woody with the right mix of spice, I don't like my drink too sweet.

I've also been known to drink Alberta Premium which is a bit more citric but still yum.

I used to drink a Canadian Club 15 year, that is now discontinued, it was all of the above but with a little toasted caramel added in.

I'm not a fan of the new CC, nor can I stand Canadian Mist, (though I hear that it has a premium version that might be worth trying if I can find it) and the Crown Royal LE is not available anywhere nearby according to their website, and according to the store shelves I've seen.

I did pick up a Black Velvet yesterday, it's nice, but not as spicy as I like my rye to be. It was a little like a sherry, and fragrant with floral notes, closer to the Seagram's Seven that my husband drinks, but thank god, not as sweet as that.

I'm wondering about American Ryes, and what I should be looking for to try, I've seen Sazerac and Templeton on the shelf, and was wondering from any Canadian rye drinkers what their thoughts were on them?

Oh, yeah, Dad's planning a trip down here in the summer, and he's going to have to bring me some Danfield's!

Late to this thread, but my favorite Canadian whisky is 40 Creek. Very smooth. I pick some up at duty free every time I cross the border.

CanadaUS Re-entry

Thank you! That's what I figured would be the case. The last couple times that I have crossed the border to visit my fiance they did give me a bit of a harder time. A few months ago my dad went into the United States Border patrol office right close to here to ask him a couple questions and his best advice was to not give more information than needed. Of course if they ask you if you are visitng a boyfriend you MUST tell the truth and say that you are. It is never a good idea to lie. But you can save yourself a lot of trouble if you say simply visiting friends.

They can see that a petition has been filed on your behalf. If you tell them that you are visiting friends, you could be causing yourself major problems. Always tell the truth.

CanadaDriving my belongings to the us

So as we are in the final days of our NVC process we are starting to finalize plans for my move to California.
I'm planning to fly in on a one way ticket to deal with the POE, I plan to bring some extra luggage with me ( clothes and linens etc.).
After researching shipping companies we've decided to borrow hubby's dad's truck and take the two way road trip, for about the same money. Our place is small and I'm not bringing more than will fit in the truck, also I have a cat and he a little dog and I feel it would be good for them to meet on the cat's turf and travel together, rather than have him wait possibly hours in his cage at the airport and then fly for the first time and them be abandoned with strangers while we go to get my stuff. The cat has been on road trips before and we are certain that they will get along (obviously there will be an adjusment period but he currently lives with a 10 month old pit bull and hubby's dog is a jack tussel mix who has lived with cat's before)

Wow I really rambled on there, anyways do I need paperwork to get my things into the states if I am traveling with them? Where would I find such forms? How detailed should lists be? Any general advice? We will more than likely be entering via port Huron or Detroit as I'd like to pass through my hometown in southwestern Ontario to say bye to the family. Thanks.

I would go through Port Huron. Much less traffic and wait. We entered there and it was quick and easy. We had a list but they didn't look at it or in the car. I believe that since finances can bring their goods with them they don't pay much attention to them. YMMV.

CanadaFinishing my Move

So, I moved down here last September 2011. I didn't bring all my stuff, as we borrowed my husbands mom's Kia Rondo to move me down (as we didn't want to deal with renting trucks or movers). We couldn't fit everything in the vehicle, so I left a few boxes behind at my parents house (at first I was like, 'Mom, I have like, 2 boxes I am leaving behind', wound up being like 8, plus a guitar! Whoops!).

I am heading back up to Canada next week (yay!) until June 5th. We are having our larger wedding ceremony for my family and friends up in Canada as they couldn't come to the American one (which wound up being larger than we hoped, but still). This one is going to be the big deal wedding, with photographers and caterers etc. (I worded the invitations as a re-affirmation of vows, as to not confuse everyone and since that is technically what it is).

Anyway, my plan is to bring back the rest of my belongings. As far as I am aware, I can still bring my belongings down. Do I tell the border guy that I am completing my move? Do I just label all my boxes and make a master list like I did when I moved last year?

When we brought some stuff back a few weeks ago the border guard just asked to see the K-1. You have a year (I think) to move your belongings.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPOE tonight..

After driving 1.5hrs each way last night to London, ON I picked up my Visa and Passport package (CR-1). Tonight I am driving to Indiana to see my husband and of course activate my visa. I have my car loaded with clothes so far and plan on the BIG move in 1.5 weeks time. I won't have a problem with this will I?

How long does it take to process this? Any idea? I imagine Fri. nights are probably busy, but we'll see.

My 16/year old son is coming along with me for the weekend, he needs to be back at school on Monday and my job ends Mar, 16th in Canada. He is not in the visa process yet, but I will get him started as soon as i'm settled down there. I won't have a problem with him coming into the USA for this either will I?
Thanks

I'm not a lawyer or anything, but I think you'll need a release from your sons father that states you can take him across the border. There's some international agreements that the US and Canada are part of that mandates this.

Edited to add: Where in Indiana are you moving to? My Canadian fiance will be moving to Indiana too.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAOS NVC Tax say single

Our submission for the AOS @ NVC
CR1 Visa

Hi my wifes 1040 states she is single as we didn't get married till this year January 2011

Is this OK?

As far as the IRS is concerned, whatever your marital status is on December 31st of that tax year is what your status is for the whole year. So, if you were single on Dec 31, 2010, you would file as single for the whole year.

In that example, you can't amend for 2010 because you were not married for that tax year.
