Thanks Saylin. I had our marriage certificate translated to make it easier when I had my name changed. So the birth certificate and police certificate are what's left. I'm going to discuss it with my hubby and let him decide. We really don't want anything to delay us and keep us apart longer!!

I have a question about translation of documents. I know there have been some issues with people and the translation of official documents. Also it states on nvc that if the documents are in the language of the area where interview will take place then translation is not necessary. When we were married I visited the embassy to get some clarification on the procedure and also to meet the consular who will probably be handling our case, but anyway was told translations would not be needed. I called nvc today and they confirmed that we didn't need to have documents translated, documents are in french. I have overwhelmingly enough evidence that we don't need to have our documents translated, should I trust this? Any thoughts? Don't want to waste more time or money, want to file!

Hi there.

It seems there are quite a few of us post-September NVC filers who got a checklist for not putting 'N/A' on the I864EZ. That set us back 1.5 months of unnecessary waiting. But like Saylin says, immigration is a privilege to us (non-citizens) so we have to bear it.

I had told my wife (the petitioner) that "put N/A on blanks or we get checklist.". She's a smart woman, she reasoned that nowhere is it written to put N/A, on the contrary, there are explicit instructions to leave blank if answer is not applicable. I still told her, there are people on this internet board who have a lot of experience and they are saying put N/A or receive checklist. But obviously mine sounded like the weaker argument. But before she mailed it I did say "If we get a checklist and I have to wait 1.5 more months, I'm going to walk to Mt. Everest Base Camp" cause I'm a big fan of trekking while she hates it cause its basically 2-3 weeks of no connection (phone/internet). We did get a checklist, but now I still can't goto Base Camp. Sheesh.

Anyhow, I hope all of us get our case completes and interviews really soon! Hang in there.

Reading your comment really made me laugh because it sounds like a conversation that my husband and I would have!! I think we are equally stubborn!

Just called NVC (and had a resonable waiting time I might add) and found out that they logged in our approved I130 petition from USCIS yesterday!! Yay!! So I have our case number and if all goes well then we will be officially November filers.....Im so excited that we are moving on to the next step... My husbands' embassy seems to schedule interviews quickly with not much waiting time, I cant believe how quickly our process seems to be going in comparison to others that I have read about on vj!! CANT HOLD IN MY EXCITEMENT!!

You need to go back and read Post #1 and #2. There are no documents you are taking to the interview. All document intake for CR1/IR1 is done through NVC.

If you have case# you have fees to pay online and other things read the post.

I received my I130 approval on Oct. 18th. Called today to confirm that NVC has received my approval. They confirmed receipt and said to allow a month to process before I should receive my case#. Will call again next week. Btw, we are April I130 filers.

Well on the timeline it says beneficiary's country. Or where will the interview take place. And its only countries you can selected. So just change to Congo if thats the country where interview will take place.

It doesnt give that option either, and I know for a certainty that they do that there because I met with the consular. They just need to update their list!

Yay, Ill take that honor!!! As far as the embassy, Kinshasa isnt an option for some reason. It gives me Armenia as a default. Ive tried contacting the administrator to add Kinshasa, DRC, but have not received any response. I am certain there is an American Embassy in Kinshasa because I visited there when I was in Congo in March 2013. Maybe you know who to talk to to get it fixed!!! And thanks for adding me to the list. I was trying to figure out how to change my settings to your specifications so that I could add myself, you have saved me the trouble!

They showed that they received my IV packet on Dec. 16th, I sent it on the 12th. Up until today they said that it hadnt been reviewed yet, but on monday the rep told me to call back in a few days so he must of known something, when does NVC ever say to call back in a few days! i wasnt expecting a case complete until the end of the month, but I surely am not complaining.

I have great news......we got case complete at NVC yesterday!!!!!! I'm so excited and now we are just waiting for interview to be scheduled!!!!!! Cant contain my excitement, I know others are having a hard time, and i feel for you because we have been there too. Everyone will get their turn. I really think it might be possible to be together for our one year Anniversary on March 15th!!! Fingers crossed!

Just checking in and wanted to give an update. We are just waiting for the NVC to review our IV packet. I called this afternoon and the operator was very kind. He said to try back in a few days. He said the best time to call is before 9am and after 9pm eastern time. Im getting excited because we had no checklists so far from AOS and Im certain we will have an interview date very very soon!

Saylin, I am the beneficiary waiting for case number. I believe we have to submit two passport size photos of the beneficiary.Do I have to send the photos by post from india to US or i can scan and send it to husbands email add??

I had my husband send me a digital picture of himself and I had it printed at a photo place using the proper measurements. Much cheaper and faster!

Many times I have seen it. Depends on availability. It's not like a expedite where you have to show evidence and reason and such. I have seen dates moved up a month. So just be prepared if they change it could be any day. I would get medical done soon as you can.

Remember people reschedule and cancel all the time, Go for it. Follow that petition. It will probably go out tomorrow or monday.

In a few days your petition will be at embassy you can always contact them and request an earlier date. You never know it could be granted, Doesn't hurt to ask.

I feel your pain. Our anniversary was Feb 3, so we're already going to miss that. But whenever you are reunited again, it will make up for it, that's what we're assuming at least. Just knowing we'll be together soon is good enough for us, we think :-)

Thank you, and I agree. Its just that my husband is having such a hard time and being able to be together for our one year anniversary has been something we have been looking forward to keeping us positive and hopeful. Once the initial shock wears off the exciting part is that we will be together soon. Many interview dates are scheduled a month out, we just really didn't expect for it to be two months is all. Thanks for your words of encouragement, I do appreciate it.

The Waiting Game...

After 4-6 months I would recommend contacting your senator to inquire about the status. It cant hurt and mine seemed to move along quicker after that. My husband arrived in the states just under a year from when we filed our i-130. Many have taken much longer. My husband found Visa Journey 6-7 months after we started the process. It really helped us to know the process better. In the end we stressed a lot because we couldn't afford to visit during that time apart but when he arrived it was all worth it and we realized we were stressing for nothing! want the original at the interview? The original would have been sent to NVC and given back at interview time. I hope. Well a copy sure I guess. But he should have that with his passport. Many CBP ask to see.

I dont think they gave him any documents back, maybe when he picks up everything on April 1st. But either way Ill make sure he carries either the original or a copy just in case! Thank you!!

Not necessarily. The case complete letter usually comes 7 days after your date. So you are 3/21 so expect in your email 3/28 or so the case complete. Not a big thing just tells you your case is complete and wait for interview.

Interview letter comes soon as it is scheduled. Your embassy is a busy one but usually there is room so hopefully you will get in for May.

The only thing needed at POE is the sealed envelope, his passport. He should also have his marriage certificate handy and thats it.

He should bring a copy of his Marriage Certificate just in case? I have the original!

Or maybe they have the original, dont remember!

Hi...thought I was done worrying but I need some advice! My husband had his interview at the embassy and was approved! The day was very exciting as we plan for him to join me....the problem is that one of his police clearances will expire the day before he arrives!! Will that be a problem at the POE or are we fine because he was approved?? Really hoping for some positive feedback!!

Your police report only is about your interview has nothing to do with POE you are done with police reports. Nothing to worry about. Mercies journeys.
