National Visa Center (Dept of State)How long does NVC take to reply to an email inquiry?

I tried calling the NVC offices this morning about 30x and all I got was a a busy signal. So I figured I might as well try an email. Does anyone know how long they take the get back to you?

Thanks!

It took 2 weeks for us. The hard copy arrived in the mail first.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussionmedical examination in advance

hello,i am from philippines my question is that is that possible for me to early done my medical examination? i dont have yet the nvc letter, if possible what documents will i bring instead of nvc letter?

Hi, from my readings here you need to have your NOA2 and NVC letter which has your MNL case # for your medical, as well as your passport. However, just this morning a friend (who's also a VJ member)had her medical. She texted me that they were also asked for the letter from USEM (the one which says you are eligible to schedule for an interview)...

From what I've read somewhere, USEM will only check your bank statements and other supporting documents if you have not met the 125% poverty level based on your current income tax return...

PhilippinesBetween the NOA2 and Interview
Hi, I'm going to my medical and interview soon. What I've prepared are $213.35 for medical fee and $131 for visa application plus I think there is P250.00 for the visa delivery, depends on the location.

The medical fee will be paid during the medical, while the visa application should be paid before going to the interview. Visa delivery fee will be paid after and when you passed the interview.

This is as far as I know. Just sharing...

PhilippinesVisa received today

My Fiancee received her Pass Port,Visa and Package today   The hard part of this journey is finished!
Does she have to go back to the CFO in Manila to get the stamp placed in her Pass Port being since this is where she took the class or can she go to the CFO in Cebu for this. Does it matter which one she visits?

Philippineswhen can icall for interview

Another question I read tat you need appointment letter.Do you need this to pay for you Visa Application when you get that letter or can you do that before also?

An appointment letter will be sent to you right away when you have set up your interview schedule. You have to forward this appointment letter to your fiancee so she can print it and present one copy to BDO for visa fee payment. Another copy will be needed to show to the guard at USEM on interview day so she can enter USEM. Visa payment should be done before your fiancee will go to the interview schedule. This is as far as I know from my readings...

PhilippinesMenstruation and medical at St. Lukes

Hi guys! My fiance in Manila is doing her medical tomorrow. Last night she have trace of blood and signs of menstruation. She is irregular that's why it was unexpected. We really planned April 12 for her medical, because we are already set for an April 26 for interview. Is it possible that she can do some part of medical? Or she can't really do anything for medical as long as the menstruation is present? Please help!

I have read somewhere here that one can still go to medical even with period. However, it will only be some part of the examination and she will be asked to come back to finish the rest of the examinations after her period. My thoughts are these: since your fiancee is already in Manila, it won't hurt if she goes to St. Luke's and try. If she will not be accommodated, let her attend CFO instead while waiting.

By the way, I will also have my medical tomorrow (with two others who are also VJ members) and my interview on the 26th. It would be nice to meet your fiancee... :)

PhilippinesWhen medical is done, what papers are given
Be sure she gets the DS 3025 vaccination record. Have her make a copy of it or scan it to you.
She'll need it when she adjust status. Seems like quite a few people lose them in transit.
The CD isn't that important. It's the chest xray.

After medical, one would get DS 3025 which is the vacination/immunization record and also a CD of xrays. They put xrays on CD as it is more convenient. St Luke's also advices that copies of DS 3025 should be made for future use.

Have her do the medical ASAP. Go after 1 PM Tuesday thru Thursday.

Dakine is right. The staff told me that Monday is the busiest day of the week.
sunsetwishesFemalePhilippines2010-04-15 12:16:00
PhilippinesInterview timeline

Better to have her do St. Lukes ASAP like next Tuesday PI time. She can fly in the morning go to SLEC at 1PM go thru the process.

Dakine is right. I went to St. Luke's at 2 PM, straight from the airport, got finished almost the same time with my friends who were there since 6AM...

Normally 2 days but sometimes can be longer. She can do CFO also.

Actually the second day is for the results. If okay, immunizations will be given then just a little waiting, the vaccination record and Xray will be given too and medical process is over. She can then attend the CFO which only lasts for 2 hours. She can only get the certificate as she doesn't have the visa yet. Sticker will be given when she has the visa.

PhilippinesAnnulment papers at medical

They change rules time to time.

Yes, but they should inform the clients too, for us to prepare for budget and more waiting time. Psyche Evaluation is P1,000.00. Another fee will be asked for Psyche Tests, which I was told is P3,000.00. Include also the hotel stay, meal allowance and round trip plane fare and or bus fare, if you are from the province (just to get the results and the battery of tests)...

PhilippinesAnnulment papers at medical

This is an interesting thread. I learned something new about St. Lukes.

Also, after my wife attended the CFO at PRISM, she told me that some of the attendees did not have some of the documents or photos that were asked of them. It seems that they passed anyway.

Talking about CFO seminar at PRISM, some of us called our respective fiance/fiancee at the wee hours in US because of: in my case, the maiden name of my fiance's mother, who has been dead for several years :o. They want me to put it in the form. Otherwise, they will not give me the certificate. Another person was to ask the reason for his fiancee's divorce (yes, he is the beneficiary). Another was for the contact number of relatives in US. Oh well...But the people handling the seminar were approachable and accommodating unlike what I have read from their counterpart in Cebu. The seminar is only for two hours. No appointment needed. They have 3 sessions in one day (10:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 3:00 PM). Just choose the most convenient time for you and don't forget to bring an ID and birth certificate with their photocopies and of course the P250.00 registration fee.

By the way, I think it would help those who will have the CFO seminar in the future. The PRISM office is at the 2nd floor of BDO building in front of De La Salle University in Taft Avenue. Me and a friend had a hard time locating it, because Taft Avenue is a looooong street and there are several BDOs along it.

PhilippinesAnnulment papers at medical

Hi, my fiance has been asked to produce the actual court hearing decision from her annulement when she was taking her medical at St Lukes today. This seems strange that they require this during the medical. Is this a requirement? We do have the other court documents (marriage licence with annulment on the side, Finaility of Annulment). Do they ask for this at the interview?

I just had my medical exam at St. Luke's last April 13. I was at the final step (releasing) when it was noticed I have an annulled marriage. I was then recommended for Pscye Evaluation (with a fee of P1,000.00). If the beneficiary of K1 has an annulled marriage, she/he should bring all the annulment papers, original and photocopy as these will be asked by a Psychiatric doctor who will do the evaluation. It does sound strange that I was asked for the annulment thing, but then it is their SOP now. I told the staff who attended me that they should put this on their guidelines so that people are aware of it and can prepare for it (budget and delays).

So great you post all this info on here... I'm beginning to search for hotels online, it's a great help really, though as for now we're in the "waiting and crossing our fingers stage", hehehe...but ohhhh WOW as I see your timelines---it was awesome, really FAST huh???...GLAD for you... :star:

Just sharing what I have experienced so other members would know also. I had "zero knowledge" before about this K1 journey. I just learned (a lot!) from reading the experiences of fellow members here who generously share their experiences too. I'm just paying it forward :)

PhilippinesAnyone else in the same boat as I am ?

how about the BOCOBO hotel ? its on the same street and for every 3 days you stay, you get the 4th day free......

Yes, it is also walking distance to St. Luke's (it's nearer to St. Luke's than CherryBlossoms)but I personally don't know the rate and have not seen the inside of its room. Just let me say this: There are no other hotels nearest to St. Luke's but Hotel Soriente and Paragon Tower Hotel (which are just next door neighbors).

PhilippinesAnyone else in the same boat as I am ?

Yeah cherry blossoms is too...robinson's mall is really close also to St. Lukes. There are quite a few hotels close to St Lukes...Hotel Soriente sounds to be a good deal though. I havent heard of that one or found it while searching online. We stayed at Pearl Garden when Mhay did her medical. A bit more expensive, but I wanted a decent hotel to stay in when we went. The earlier you can do the medical from the interview the better...just in case something comes up. You dont get any surprizes or delays.....it really does suck for the people that dont live close enough to manila to commute.

Yes, I was surprised myself why Hotel Soriente is not mentioned, when in fact it is just a few steps away from St. Luke's (only 10 meters or less away). CherryBlossoms is a walking distance away from St Luke's. Meaning, it is several meters away from St. Luke's and there's a not so well-lighted part of the road going to St. Luke's which for me is scary specially if I have to walk alone at dawn. But yes, CherryBlossoms is a few steps away from Robinson's. Another hotel that's just a few steps away from St. Luke's is the Paragon Tower Hotel, just next door to Hotel Soriente, but more expensive due to free breakfast for two (P1,900.00). Both hotels are decent.

PhilippinesAnyone else in the same boat as I am ?

Hi, i'd like to inquire what tests they conduct or perform during the medical? would it take longer than a day? How soon can the results be released granting the medical is clear?

There would be urine and blood tests, eye exam, vital signs (such as BP, pulse rate), height, weight, immunization interview (where you will be asked of your first and last day of period, chicken pox, last sexual contact, etc.). The most "dreaded" part is the physical exam of the doctor where you will be asked to disrobe everything, and check your breasts for possible lumps, your wrists, #######, etc. Then the "interrogation". You will be asked about drug addiction, sickness, hospitalization, etc. including annulment of marriage (on which you will be recommended for Psyche evaluation). The medical lasts 1 1/2 to two days. On the second day, and if everything is okay, you will be given the vaccination record and CD of Xrays...

PhilippinesAnyone else in the same boat as I am ?
:ot:

Seems like the Fiancee has alot of travelling to do before we are in each others arms, she is from Hilongos, Leyte and her travels are as follows:

1st trip, fly from Leyte to Manila(Round trip)for Medical

2nd trip, fly from Leyte to Manila(Round trip)for Interview at the Embassy

3rd trip, fly from Leyte to Manila(Round trip)for CFO

4th trip, fly from Leyte to Las Vegas (One way) to be united forever.

The first three trips will of course include her staying at the BOCOBO HOTEL, Pocket Money and her sister accompanying her since I dont want her to travel alone....

Alot of expenses but well worth it, anyone else on the same boat as I am as far as travelling to Manila for the requirements ? any suggestions to make this more efficient?

Hi, I just had my medical at St. Luke's. I and two other VJ members stayed at Hotel Soriente, just a few steps away from St. Luke's. It's a nice, clean and safe hotel with big room and two beds, hot and cold shower, A/C and TV. Room rate is only P1,499.00 good for two. The medical usually lasts for two days. However, the second day would be for the results and immunizations (if passed). Your fiancee can attend the CFO seminar even without visa yet, which only lasts for 2 hours. She should bring an ID and birth certificate and their photocopies. Seminar fee is P250.00. Make sure she knows the maiden name of your mother and the reason of your divorce (if you are divorced). This might be news, but yes, we were asked these (so we called our respective fiances' at wee hours). Otherwise, she will not be given a certificate. Then if she has a visa, she can get the CFO sticker, even a day before her departure for US.

Another thing, Hotel Soriente is a walking distance from USEM. Just sharing...

PhilippinesSt Lukes says NO Whooppee for 30 days after immunizations!

Does everyone that's been through St Luke's get the same message from the doc after you get shots? I'm just curious if people really follow that guidance...

You should follow Doc's advise as it would really affect should your fiancee get pregnant. It's also the reason why there should be NO sexual contact at least 2 weeks prior to immunization. That's why we were also asked of when is the last sexual contact.

PhilippinesInterview approval question

Sorry, what documents you need for cfo?

ID and its photocopy, NSO birth certificate and its photocopy. Plus P250.00 registration fee. She should know your mom's maiden name and the reason of your divorce if you are divorced. CFO seminar at PRISM is at 2nd floor of BDO building in Taft Avenue (in front of La Salle University)...There's a small streamer there which says, People's Reform Initiative for Social Mobilization Inc. (PRISM). There are 3 sessions in one day (10 AM, 1 PM, 3PM). She can choose which time is convenient to her. Just walk in. Tel. no. : (632) 525-4314.

She should specifically tell the taxi driver Banco de Oro (BDO) in front of La Salle. I and a friend got lost because we were just given the address and not a landmark. We found out that Taft Avenue is a loooooooooong street and there are several BDOs along it.

Another thing, your fiancee will just be given the yellow certificate. She can get the sticker when she has the visa at another address which will be given to her during the seminar.

i never knew this until the 3rd day of our medical at st lukes.i was suppose to have my interview april 12 but i was
adviced to wait until i get results from the phsyc doctor.OH WHAT A WASTE OF TIME! :bonk:
The Doctor said that it would take 2 weeks to get the results and to be forwarded to st lukes,
but my fiance just went balistic about it and begged to get it sooner..the doc promised to do it as quick as she
can so now were just waiting 1 week (i hope)..
my question is..CAN WE JUST CALL THE US EMBASSY FOR OUR RESCHEDULED INTERVIEW??instead of getting

we have waited 1 year and 4 mos for my annulment to be over and i think too much time was wasted over
this stupid wait..pls help :help:

Yeah aolot of them are Buaya.

Just imagine I rode a cab from Bocobo to Robinsons, not that is very close, walking distance but it was 1 in the afternoon and very hot. The sucker tried to charge me 150 but when I told him that I am the nephew of Senator Lacson (before he became wanted) and the cabbie backed off and said PAY AS YOU LIKE...........

Ive been to DAVAO, GEN SAN and CEBU, the cabbies over there are not crooks like compared to Manila

I agree with you about cabbies in GenSan, Davao and Cebu. I live in GenSan and I am proud to say taxi drivers here are not buaya (crocodile). Davao drivers give you correct change of your fare even if it is just one peso (P1.00) unless they really don't have coins, but inform you and even try to apologize. In Cebu, there are a few crooks (maybe they came from and trained in Manila, hehehehe), but nothing compared to those in Manila. In Cagayan de Oro, taxi drivers are also not crooks even in Bohol.

I cant believe the odassity of some of these drivers, some of them will even tell you that the tip you give them is not enough. I was at the MOA and when I got to the cab the driver told me its 350 to the Bocobo due to its getting dark, again I lost my tempter and lashed out at him, he backed off when I told him to F off. Found another cab and paid 100 to the Mcdo right be the Bocobo.

It really gets on my nerves when these drivers know that you speak english or if you are stateside.

I understand how you feel teamster631. MOA to Bocobo is not really that too far! You are actually generous, giving him a tip. Here in the Philippines, we are not obliged to give tips. Tipping is just done out of one's generosity for a good service rendered, not a requirement or an obligation.

I told the first taxi driver I rode with in my first time (I have already disembarked), he should feel lucky he is not in Davao, otherwise he is long gone by now. And he was speechless

PhilippinesManila airport

Hey everyone what is a good price for2people from manila airport to ermita with 4 bags plus 2carry ons? thanx
Jello

Hi, I have just been to Manila for my medical and interview. My impression? Most Manila taxi drivers, if not all, are robbers! They rob passengers in broad daylight with our eyes open wide! They have their tactics in knowing if passengers know their way around Manila or not. They would ask questions what road to take in going to your destination and of course, being new in Manila you can't answer. They would also tell you it's heavy traffic going to your destination so you have to pay fixed rate which is triple to what the regular fare should be, giving you the impression that he is being nice by offering you this rather than paying high taxi fare. I was a victim of this.

When I came back to Manila, I asked airport employees where to ride regular taxi from the airport and they would give you directions which way to go out. You have to go up (this is actually the drop off area for departing passengers). Don't worry about your bags and things because you can still use the airport carts even inside the elevators. I did that. And yes, there are regular taxis out there. At first, the driver would try to employ to you the tactics, but it was my second time, so I know what to do already. I told him, I can only pay P120-150. If he can't take that, I'll go out and find another taxi. So he said okay. The distance between airport and Malate is really not that too far and traffic is not really that heavy as there are other roads they can take going to and from Malate. The last time I was there, the driver used the skyway which has very few cars and we get to the aiport around 10 minutes (he has a small clock on top the meter).

So don't hesitate to ask airport employees for directions.

I used to live in Manila. May 1st was Labor day unless they changed to the first Monday of May. So which mean if you call on on holiday, call center will put you on hold for a long long long time? BTW, how many times you can use your paid pin number?

Holidays here are sometimes moved to have long weekend. As far as I know, if it's national holiday in the Philippines, USEM is also observing it, not sure about the call center. For our own personal experience, we used the PIN twice.

PhilippinesMedical and Interview

I am a little confused...and want to know if these steps are correct.

1. I can call NVC to find out if packet has been forwarded by DHL to Manila.

Yes, you can call NVC if they have already forwarded your approved petition to USEM. You should have on hand your fiancee birthdate and your receipt number (something with WAC XXXX...)when you call. You should also when they sent it, if they did and ask for your MNL case #.

2. This takes about 3 days...and do I or Olive call Manila to find out if it has arrived?

Give 1-2 weeks for the approved petition to arrive from NVC to USEM. Then when it arrived at USEM, give it 2-3 days before calling USEM to schedule your interview.

3. About 3 days after we know Manila has received packet does she call to make medical and interview appt or do I call?

Your fiancee can have her medical even without interview schedule yet as long as she has the MNL case #, which is written on NVC letter. She should bring with her copy of NOA2 and NVC letter along with her passport. It is mostly advised that medical and interview have one week gap. Medical first then interview.

4. CFO meeting, how is that scheduled. Is it before interview or after interview. I have read somewhere that they stamp the passport and I thought I had read somewhere that the passport is keep after the interview. If so how does she get the passport back?

CFO seminar at PRISM can be done before interview, but all she'll get is the yellow certificate, which is the requirement to get the sticker, because she doesn't have the visa yet (assuming this is done before interview). Only photocopies of IDs and NSO birth certificate or passport are needed in CFO seminar. If she has already the visa, she will have to get the sticker and stamping at another place in Quirino.

Thank you.

I hope these help. But others may have more inputs on your queries...
