I can't even believe things like this happen. It's so absurd, I wish there was something we could do to help. Make sure that whatever you do, you think long and hard about, so it doesn't delay the process EVEN MORE. And don't give up on calling, writing, and being annoying as you can be. You deserve answers.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresFiance Visa Approved But now in Administrative Process (Santo Domingo)

Hello All,

I need some advise what to do or expect.... My fiance and I went to the visa interview on 9/29 and After spending about 5 hours there, the visa was approved... We got the receipt and were asked to pay the $12.50 for the delivery of the documents.... According to the USA Embassy website in Santo Domingo, it takes couple of days for the visa to be printed and handed to the carrier for it to be delivered... However, It has been more than 2 weeks and we have not received anything......

I asked my fiance to go to the Embassy today and ask for some info because when we track it on the DOMEX website, it only says "In consular Process".... She went today and was told that the case is in administrative process....

Does any one have any idea why it may be? Is it something that normally happens with K-1 visas? It is really driving me crazy because my father's case was also put on administrative process and it has not been cleared yet.... (the reason appears to be because someone has a similar name and they want to investigate he is not that person...)

I think this is just unacceptable.. I know my father's case is different but how long do this people need to process a case... For all the money we pay and the stress we go through this process should be quicker...

I will appreciate if anyone can give me some advice....

Thanks!

This is recently happening a lot with K-1 cases. A couple of members here went through it. I think they waited no more than like 2 months. It sucks, but you just have to wait it out.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTo visit or Not to visit?
I'm a little confused, has your fiancee visited you in the US? If not, don't worry. As long as you go visit her as often as possible. Visitor visas are nearly impossible to get for Dominicans, they know and understand that.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Interview

It should be noted that this is not a legal requirement for any K-1 visa. It seems to be a practice in the DR, but let's be clear this is just sound advice for a troublesome embassy. The general consensus on VJ is that it can't hurt to attend the K-1 interview anywhere.

The OP will have his interview in DR and that is why everyone answered that he MUST be present. I thought that was clear. If anyone was not clear: this is a DR specific question with DR specfic answers.

Yup...have to go. The last time I knew someone that went alone and got approved was back in 2005. Now, they are very strict. On the interview letter it says "It is strongly suggested that the petitioner be present at the interview"..... But it should say "you better go or its getting denied!". :P

Couldn't have said it better. If you do not go, expect a denial.

Poke around this website and read as much as you can. As others have said DR embassy is tough, especially for the fiance visa (K1). And yes you WILL HAVE to be present at the time of interview.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTouches

Pssssttt - touches dont' mean anything. You can get 'touched' 10,000 times or you can never be touched

Good luck

This is correct. Touches don't mean your petition is making any progress. Just means someone literally touched it. I never touched and I was approved in about 5 weeks.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice report/certificates

I didnt have my cedula since ive never had one, and i needed the cedula plus the birth certificate and the acta de solteria + we had to do an appointment to get married. About how long the spouse visa takes? Because if it takes the same time even though is more expensive i might as well just stay with the l-129f

The fiance visa is suppose to take like 2-3 months less, but honestly it all depends what service center your application gets sent and how lucky you get. California service center has been really slow recently while Vermont service center has been fast. For example I filed a CR-1 and my petition was approved in about 5 weeks. It's really the luck of the draw, and of course if you made any mistakes on your application that would also delay it.

The reason I THINK CR-1 is better is because it is about a grand cheaper, you don't have to go through the headache of adjusting status and getting married when your partner comes to the USA, andddd with CR-1 your partner will get here and be able to work in a few weeks. When your partner comes as a fiance he/she will not be able to work for a couple of months. For me it was an obvious choice, but everyone has their own opinion.

Nice i see you filed a Cr1 i wished i could of had gotten married like my fiance and i planed in my dec/jan trip but dr made it so complicated for me to obtain certain papers after i was told i didnt need them. I was left with the choice of a really long and expensive process :-(
Im thinking of returning in march but idk if i should retry doing the wedding. And putting in an l-130 instead of the l-129f.

It's up to you, the CR-1 is ultimately the cheapest option, and it takes about the same amount as the K-1. What papers is it that you neeeded that you didn't have to get married over there? The only one I can think of is birth certficate.

Oh nice i didnt know it had to be paid at the bank first, these instructions seems to throw you off at times.

Yup! Sometimes the best and most accurate answers come from people who have recently gone thorugh the process for the same country (i have learned this on vj). This is very country specific. We all know DR doesn't always "follow the rules" so it might say something online and when you get to the place they tell you otherwise.

My husband just got his police certficate less than two weeks ago, in Azua. He only needed the receipt from ban reservas, and his cedula. Other locations might be a little different. :star:

You have to pay for it at banco reservas first then take the receipt to the fiscalia. Its still 330 pesos.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview day...

It wasn't dumb AT ALL... You and I are in the same exact situation. My daughter will soon be 2 years old, and I was wondering the same exact question. Would it be a GOOD idea? and so far there has been some input. But it's still sketchy, because having the real thing compared to a piece of paper CAN make the difference. Will it matter to them? who knows. But I would DEFINATELY like to know!

I too am comtemplating taking my daughter. Maybe it will lighten up the heart of our future CO, and make him/her decide not to ask many questions... WHO KNOWS? Also, I heard they don't make you wait that much in line (outside), if you have a baby with you... Do you think this is true bro?

Hey Speeds you might get moved up in line but it does not guarantee you will have the actual interview right away. I work with children and 2 year olds do not stay still AT ALL. I do not recommend this, but you can take the baby if you please. I do not think it is prohibited. Check with the embassy first if you do plan on bringing the baby.
StephanieMFemaleDominican Republic2012-03-19 12:30:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresInterview day...
As long as you have the baby's BC with BOTH of your names that should suffice. Like you said this may very well take all day, and putting the baby in this environment is not recommended. If I were you, I would not bring him.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVaccinations for the Medical.

I will tell you my experience, which I did not look ahead to the AOS. To enter on a K1, NO vaccinations are required and I thought I would just have it all done here in the USA for my wife and her daughter. She had all of the records which I had translated. I was able to get all the vaccinations for her daughter free through the health department. My wife not so easy and ended up paying for the ones she was lacking. Now the hard part of it, finding a civil surgeon to complete JUST the vaccination portion of the I-693, most of them I contacted would not just do the vaccination records and wanted to do a full physical again, even after explaining the requirements to them. One wanted $150.00 each to do the paperwork PLUS the cost of the vaccinations. I ended up driving 3 hours to a clinic and was charged $20.00 each for the papers and a reasonable amount for the vaccinations.

My advice, get what is lacking done there, before or at the medical exam. Make sure you get a photo copy of the DS 3025 at the time of the medical exam, the original will be sealed. It was a pain for me and costly to have it done here :(

Godd advice!! i have also heard of the horrors of finding a civil surgeon.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVaccinations for the Medical.

I understand what you're saying. However, the U.S. has to screen everyone for all the "listed hazardous medical conditions" (like the list mikili" posted). If your husband has any records of past "shots or vaccinations" he could bring them to avoid getting them again. But as you stated he doesn't have any records so its highly likely that they will require him to get all of the shots & vaccinations that fit his profile. I don't think there's any other way around it. I may be wrong, but I haven't heard of anyone who was "exempt" from getting these vaccinations (unless there was some sort of health risk involved).

That is what I mean. I am trying to have him save money on the vaccines he needs to get. I know the vaccines are mandatory I just want to avoid the fees of Colsultorios de visa is possible in terms of vaccines. That is why I wanted to know which ones are absolutely necessary.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVaccinations for the Medical.

Unfortunately, you cannot go to your personal doctor or any other physician. Everyone applying for a visa most being examined by Consultorios de Visa physicians.

ASK THE CONSUL
I am applying for an immigrant visa and need to go for my medical examination. What should I expect at the medical examination? Can I have my personal doctor perform the medical exam?

The medical examination may not be done by your family doctor or any doctor other than the approved panel physician.

http://santodomingo....atc-090615.html

But then consultorios de visa also says this:

" Traiga consigo toda documentación relativa a su historia inmunológica (cartilla de vacunas, records médicos, etc.) para asistir en determinar su estatus inmunologico. Si tiene alguna contraindicación por condición preexistente o alergias favor traer un informe de su medico tratante. "

Got it right off the website.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVaccinations for the Medical.

Beneficiary: Plan Your Medical Exam Date

The medical exam always comes before the interview. The U.S. Embassy appoints certain accredited clinics or physicians where you may take the medical exam. Although the series of tests included in the medical exam may vary in every Consulate, there are still common denominators for them all.

Immunization
Vaccinations are also given to K1 Visa applicants. The panel physician in your clinic determines which shots you have to take. This varies with your age and vaccination history.

Right from the USCIS website

United States immigration law requires immigrant visa applicants to obtain certain vaccinations (listed below) prior to the issuance of an immigrant visa. Panel physicians who conduct medical examinations of immigrant visa applicants are required to verify that immigrant visa applicants have met the vaccination requirements, or that it is medically inappropriate for the visa applicant to receive one or more of the listed vaccinations:

Hepatitis A
Hepatitis B
Influenza
Influenza type b (Hib)
Measles
Meningococcal
Mumps
Pneumococcal
Pertussis
Polio
Rotavirus
Rubella
Tetanus and diphtheria toxoids
Varicella

So CR-1 visa beneciaries should have all of these? Holy cow!

I have known him 11 months, I just visited in December and met his parents. They were very nice. He also wants children right away. We have discusses these issues thoroughly and I told him that we need time alone before children. He seems accepting of it but we will see.

Just be very smart. We are all adults here so don't ignore anything that seems "weird" or fishy" because you are blinded by love. I have seen and read my fare share of horror stories, some from our very own vj members. Don't be discouraged just be cognizant.

How long have you known him? Be very careful, Dominicans are masters of sweet talking, and many are desperate for a visa. I guess it is a little too late to be second guessing yourself since you already submitted the paperwork. Keep making visits, perhaps a surprise visit and I wish you the best of luck. Remember we are all taking risks here even if we are super sure the love we have with someone is 100% real. Just be smart.

You must have a police certificate issued within 30 days of your interview to present to the embassy at the time of interview Confirm with the embassy as things do change but this is what I have ALWAYS seen.

For those of us who are doing CR-1 the process is slightly different as the PC is good to send to NVC for up to 6 months. However, we must also obtain ANOTHER PC at the time of interview, within 30 days of the interview. :D

Yeah. I am asking if I could do my own translations, for letter of intent, birth certificate etc.. without having to have someone else signing off on it.

Certification by Translator

I , certify that I am fluent (conversant) in the English and Spanish languages, and that the above/attached document is an accurate translation of the document attached entitled.

Nowhere says you are not able to do this and many members on here have done it themselves without any problems. I have seen very few cases where uscis does not accept it so that is why I had my mom sign off on it even though I did it myself.

Also if you are submitting these docs directly to the embassy at the time of interview they do not need to be translated. For uscis they do.
