K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBring spouse through military??
Hello. I am an officer in the U.S. Army. I can tell you that being in the military gave me ABSOLUTELY ZERO LEVERAGE to get our K-1 (Fiance Visa) request expedited. The only time being in the U.S. military helps expedite things faster is if YOU ARE THE NON-CITIZEN. You can get your citizenship sooner by belonging to the military. When I was in Iraq they would have mass citizenship ceremonies for military members.

I would say get a co-sponsor and stop listening to the family. The folks here on VJ are the ones with the experience and knowledge. You may want to consult with a lawyer. Usually an initial consultation is $100-$200.

Take care and best of luck.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK1 - Employment Question
I just went to the US Embassy in Peru in April for our K1 interview. All I supplied was my 2008 Tax Return and 3 months of paystubs from my employer. This was sufficient. If you have a significant amount of money in savings or a 401K, then I would take a copy of the balance in those accounts. Otherwise, the tax return and paystubs are good enough. We were approved, so that's my experience. Good Luck! I'm sure everything will be fine.

OK, I learn something new everyday here..I have been w/ the same company for 15 years, earn plenty of money to show support and can supply paystubs and tax returns.. Is the letter from my employer a requirement ? I work for a Fortune 25 company, getting HR to supply me with anything is like dealing with the USCIS, When and whom do I need to supply this info to ?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresInterview Package Email. Where is it?
QUOTE (MrNoNo @ Mar 31 2009, 12:31 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi, my wife and I have an interview date for April 17th but we still have not recieved the interview package that NVC said they were going to send us. I have called about it twice now. I just called back today and they said that they are going to email the package to us. I verified both of our email addresses and NVC has them correct on the system but we never recieved the email.

I changed my email to try another address, in case my main email address was blocking it but I have no NVC related emails in my blacklist and my wife never recieved the email that they said they sent either.

Have any of you had this problem? Got any solutions? Our interview date is looming in a little over 2 weeks and we would like to get the medical exam out of the way.

Can those of you who got an email like that, tell me what the address is so that I can add it to my white list? Thank you much!

Call the Consulate in Peru.... 434-3000 YOU MUST CALL BETWEEN 2 and 3pm. They will not help you outside of this time. You can go pick up a packet if you are able.

One more comment, with my experience, it would be worth it to move the interview out a week IF you are not able to get the medical results in one day.

My wife goes for her medical exam on thursday her interview is on the following tuesday. You say the exam reports take a week to get back? she was told that she can have them the next day. If it takes a week then its going to be all messed up for us there goes $1500 + in airline tickets.

Which doctor are you going to see? We went to Dr Nori. My fiance was told to return in a week to get the results. I would make sure. I find it hard to believe that lab work and chest Xrays are available in one day. But maybe it is possible. Be very sure though. I bought my tickets in advance also and had to cancel my fiance's ticket so we can use it when he does receive the visa. I had high hopes of us flying back the the US together but it did not work out that way.

Hi I returned from Peru a few weeks ago. I went to the interview with my fiance. So here is what I know:

1) Medical Exam----it takes 1 week to get the results. MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE RESULTS FOR THE INTERVIEW. If you do not have the results, as we did not, they will do the interview but will not give you an answer on the Fiance Visa until they see the medical results. My fiance went back to the doctor's office, picked up the results and had to send them to the embassy via DHL with his passport. Now we wait for the answer. They will send the passport back to him with the VISA on it or with a letter saying denied or more info needed. We spent about $200 for the exam and vaccinations. If you have proof of previous vaccinations, take that with you as it will cut back on the number of vaccinations you need. Don't forget you will need cab or bus fare for going to the exam and returning to get the results. My fiance lived in Comas and the exam was in San Isidro. Gets expensive traveling back and forth. TAKE THE LETTER FROM THE EMBASSY THAT SHOWS YOUR CASE NUMBER AND DATE OF INTERVIEW. The doctor's office wants to see it.

2) Police reports

There are 3 police reports you must get for Peru. From what I remember we got them all downtown Lima. Again, more money and lots more taxi costs. One of the reports takes a week to get. So plan on a return trip to pick it up. If you do not know where to go for the reports, ask a taxi driver, that is how we found out! I think we spent about $40 in fees for the police reports.

3) Interview
YOU GET ONE FACE TO FACE INTERVIEW. If you can not have the documents by the interview date, call the embassy between 2 and 3pm and ask for the interview to be rescheduled. 434-3000 Your interview will only be postponed by 1 or 2 weeks and you can ensure you have all the documents in time. (They will send you a new packet with the new date but you can go ahead and get all your documents based on the first packet. Just be sure to take the letter from the 2nd packet to the interview.

4) Police reports: Our packet was for a K1. On the K1 packet you have to provide a police report from any country that you lived in for more than 1 year. If your passport does not reflect one year of being in that country, don't worry about it. The passport is the only way they know.

5) Forms: All of the forms that were needed were in the packet EXCEPT for the DS 156. Fill out all the forms in the packet and take them to the interview. FILL OUT THE DS 156 ONLINE. Go to US EMbassy of Peru website and search for the DS 156. This form must be filled out online because when you complete the form you have to print it. The printed copy MUST HAVE A BAR CODE ON IT or it is not valid.

6) you don't need a lawyer. Hope this helps......Luis y Melanie
