When are you supposed to start the job? Is it in the same line of work?

Yes. It is in the same line of work. I'm a licensed funeral director. I am just waiting for a letter regarding salary and benefits from my future employer. I've been out of work for 2 months. I'm wondering if the letter will be enough even though I havent started working there yet. Hopefully I'll start working at the end of August.

Your post confuses me.

Are you saying you are between jobs - that you just have not started the new position yet?

Yes and Yes.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionIncome requirement on the affidavit I-134
Hi all,

We have our K1 appointment w/ the U.S. consulate in a couple of weeks. Im wondering how I will provide enough evidence as a sponsor if I havent started a new job. I am currently unemployed with limited funds. When I originally filled out the affidavid of support my work situation was not an issue. Will a letter from the future employer be sufficient evidence?

Thanks,
Bill

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioncosponsor on a affadavid of support
Hey gang,

THis is a question for those who had to have a cosponsor for their K1. How did your cosponsor fill out question 11. on the I-134? Did you check off intend or do not intend? What did you say for specific contributions? Just curious because my cosponsor is filling out mine.

Thanks,
Bill

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionAdvice about Address
On the first question, I'm currently living with my parents and that was marked down as my chief residence. At the interview they didnt ask if I owned a home. It's more important that you have the financial backing to support your fiance. So yeah, you guys should be alright.

I can't help you on the second question though. Check the VJ timeline forum for more info.

Good luck!

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 Part 7 - Time Outside the United States
I moved from Canada to the US, literally a 3 hour drive away from Canada and made many visits to Canada from the US over the last few years and can't possibly remember the exact dates that I left the US for these overnight visits. Has anyone else had trouble with knowing exact dates? What did you do?

CanadaMarriage certificate for a k1
Hi everyone,

Was anyone able to get a marriage certificate from the U.S. courthouse before they had a religous ceremony in Canada? Our interview with the consulate is next week, our religious ceremony is in October and our priest insists on having a marriage certificate before the ceremony.

Thanks

CanadaBack log at MTL
When we went to the consulate in MTL a few weeks ago there were quite a bit of people getting interviewed. They did seem to be a bit understaffed though.

CanadaChange in Employment
Get a letter of impending employment from work stating salary, position, etc on company letterhead. That's what I did even though I havent excepted the job yet. I wanted to make sure the interview went well before moving. Also, have a cosponsor fill out a form, just in case.

CanadaQuestion about Montreal
Interview was on the 15th, received visa in the mail on the 17th, so 2 days.

CanadaVisiting the US while Visa pending
We made it through Detroit/Windsor without any problems UP UNTIL the last week before my fiance's interview at the Consulate. But for the most part, I wouldnt worry because we've crossed back and forth saying we were "dating" or boyfriend/girlfriend while we were going through the k1 process.

Good luck.

I forgot to add that she was denied entry in the US before our interview and she still got her visa. They asked whether she was denied entry, told them just last week and still got approved. So theres always hope even if you get denied.

I feel like my fiance and I are totally getting screwed with on our interview date. Back in April they said it's be 4 to 6 months then in June they said August or September. Then July they said September or October. Now they're saying October or November. Is it just me or does something not seem right here when other people are getting interview dates right and left? sad.gif I am thinking of calling my congressman Monday.

If you can't get an answer from the embassy through email or phone, definately get ahold of your congressman. One email and they were able to get the ball rolling for us.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionTimeframe to File I-751
When they say you have to apply to lift conditions within 90 days of your green card expiration, they mean it. I sent my I-751 4 days before the 90 day period and they mailed it back to me saying I sent it in too early. So then I had to pay postage to mail the package back. So much for being proactive!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress Reports6 months and counting and still no interview
Greetings all,

Just joined this board a few weeks ago and its really helpful. Our situation is that the Montreal Consulate has our paperwork and we're into the 5th month and still no interview. We were told it would be 3 months! We have a wedding date of Oct. 13, 2007 too. It's nerve wrecking for me and my fiance to say the least. Anyone waiting as long or longer then us?

I know that they are backed up (or claim to be) but this is ridiculous.

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCrossing over the border for a relative's wedding
QUOTE (Krikit @ Aug 20 2007, 01:44 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Hi Bill. I crossed the border with the K-1 visa in my passport without a problem. I just let them know I would be using the visa at a later date as I was still taking care of legalitites. We had asked about this at the Consulate beforehand and they told us that it was perfectly fine.... but to be aware that the officer at the border has the final say in whether they allow you across or not.

Thanks Krikit.

It's a gamble. I guess I'm just worried that our something will go wrong. I've been hassled by US customs the past 3 trips back into the States just visiting my fiance and once she was with me. But that was another issue. So they (Dept. of Homeland Security) isnt on my good side.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCrossing over the border for a relative's wedding
Hey everyone,

My Canadian fiance recieved her K1 in the mail. We are planning on marrying in the US later in October. I was wondering if there was a way that my fiance can attend my cousin's September wedding in the U.S (my country) before we get married? Who an I contact to find more information regarding a temporary waiver?

Thanks in advance!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresvehicle registration and k1
QUOTE (motu @ Aug 28 2007, 01:40 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just realized that its the 'expensive' part that you are concerned with. If that's the case, are you prepared to have your fiancee not work for 6 to 8 months while waiting for her green card when she comes over on a K1? Also are you prepared for thousands in fees for adjusting status (green card fees)? Yes you can apply for employment authorization when you enter on K1 but that seems to be not worth it - it expires when your k1 expires so creates gaps in any meaningful jobs. Maybe you need to get some savings built up - in the meantime put up with the hassle of crossing the border in her car or take a bus ride across the tunnel/bridge and have your fiancee pick you up in Windsor. Good Luck

Thank you for the advice Motu,

I should clarify that the car was bought in the US its just that her name is on the title. I emailed Sec. of State and they said I'd have to pay 6% of the value worth to get it in my name. So that would mean paying $1080 just to put the darn thing in my name! So much for the GM discount that got. It ends out evening out in the end.

Yeah, I might just endure the hassle each time I cross. Im just worried about the next time she crosses over for the civil ceremony.

Hi,

Me and my fiancée purchased a car together. However the title and registration is in her name. We didn’t know that we would have problems at the p.o.e proving that she doesn’t live in the U.S (she’s Canadian). I’d like to get the car put in my name to stop getting hassled, however it is expensive to do so. If I don’t get the car put in my name, will this jeopardize her immigration in the future? She has to eventually cross over to marry me civilly and until then I come to see her every weekend.

Thanks,
Bill

Could she just stop crossing the border in that car or is it you driving her car that's getting you hassled when you cross alone?

It's me driving the car that's gettting hassled. It doesnt matter whether she is with me or not. Im in their computer so I get flagged every single time.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTravelling on a K-1 Visa
Hi,

My fiance and I were thinking of going to Europe from Canada but I already have my K-1 visa in my passport and will not be moving to the US until November. We were thinking of possibly going to Europe in October. Will I have immigration problems entering European countries with my US visa in my passport but still living in Canada?

Thanks!
