Yesterday, I drove the wife down to the DMV office in Locust Grove, Georgia ... about 30 miles south of Atlanta. My theory was that further away from the city chaos was better and this proved to be correct.

DMV opened at 730A and we arrived about 845AM to find Literally No One parked in the lot! Actually I thought it was closed or some sort of DMV holiday becasue the place was so empty!

We walked right in and up to the counter and I was fully prepared for the "nightmare experience" as posted on VJ by other Atlantans!!!

But hold-on .......

We came with the wife's expired GC, NOA for 1-year Extension, Soc Security Card, Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate, International Passport, Certified English Translation and Original Birth Certificate and a few additional thousand documents.

The man who greeted us glanced over the forms we presented, said ... "All looks good to me!," and sent us onto the written testing area. Unfortunately, there was only 1 DMV Counterperson working the entire place and we were #3 in que. After about a 30 min wait our number was called and we went over to the main counter.

My wife had her "eye test" and then asked if she could take the law test in Russian Language. Low and behold they popped-out a book with a written exam in Russian! She had to complete a paper test (multiple choice / circle the correct answer) rather than take the standard computer generated test.... so what! SHE PASSED! Then she had to go back to the counter where they set her up with a computer to take the "road sign test" in English. AGAIN SHE PASSED! Driving Test was a piece o' cake and suddenly she was done! Had per photo taken, paid her money and went out the door - on her merry way- with license in hand. Validity only until expiration of her I-751 adjudication (1 year) but her license can be renewed/extended wtih no problem.

Very pleasant experience, no hassles, no supervisor intervention required and all is well with the world.

Until the 10-year GC comes .......

I am kinda' in the same boat.

My wife's GC expires Jan 30 but she has her 1 year extention letter. We were planning to go to the Atlanta DMV and get her a license on Feb 15 but the real question is WILL THEY ACCEPT THE LETTER AND THE EXPIRED GC?

Looks like the answer maybe NO from the responses posted here!! What's a poor husband to do?

Maybe the Infopass appt for the I-551 stamp is the answer and maybe not???

Any thoguhts are greatly apreciated here as well!

As noted previously, having a Visa DOES NOT GUARANTEE ENTRY into the USA. It's OFFICIALLY up to the Immigration Officer(s) at the port / time of entry.

I have read where some Immigration Officers try to "trick" the fiancee with an off-the-wall question like, "What color are your fiancee's eyes?" and "Why are you coming to America? ... Why do you want to marry an American? ... What does an American see in you?" While these reported cases are rare ... stuff does occur! I have heard instances of this occuring in Atlanta AND at JFK Port of Entrys.

Simply put, this is a stressful moment in the life of your fiancee (and yours). Tell her (AND YOU) to relax but to be prepared for anything and any question. Have her rehearse every question just the same as she did for her embassy interview and all should be fine.

Every once in a while you run into an Immigration Officer a**ho*e but by-in-large things should go smoothly.

Try not to STRESS-OUT any more than necessary!

I tried to get my wife a State ID card (instead of a Driver's License / Learners Permit) and I was told (in GA) that they would issue but it would ONLY be valid through the life of the I-94 (90-days) .. so we just waited for her AOS Green Card to come through ....

This may vary state-to-state but not sure that it will!

A few words of advice.

1) Keep the course .... stay focussed on getting all paperwork and everything refield correctly ASAP. THis is more critical than immediately "going after" the incompetant attorney.

2) Once you have gotten all paperwork filed and are back on the road to recovery, you can a) go after the attorney directly, B) hire another attorney to do so (LOL!), c) file a grievence with the State Bar Association in the state where you live / attorney is licensed (if licensed to practice in multiple states, file a grievence in ALL states), d) file a complaint with USCIS AND a whole host of other actions.

THE KEY IS KEEPING YOUR HEAD ON STRAIGHT AND DOING THE MOST IMPORANT THING FIRST ...

Personally I think it's best to answer truthfully on the ALL applications. Why give USICS (or anyone) anything to pick apart as they "may discover it" later in the process.

Try sending a PM to HUSKERKIEV ... he once was an adjudicator in Nebraska SC and he can tell you waht they look for on various internal USCIS websites.

Hello All...
I have been a member since 2004 and only just found this Ukraine Forum! LOL!

I have been to Kyiv 6 times now .... met my fiance/wife there in Oct 2004 and started all processing immediately after my return. We had our interview at the Embassy in Kiev in March 2004. The interview could be classified as a "piece o' cake" as I was present to observe the proceedings (having returned to meet my wife's family). Lots of fretting and worry for NOTHING! My wife immediately got her visa and came to USA on K-1 in April 2005. We were married in May 2005. Just filed her I-751 for Removal of Conditions.

We returned to Kyiv in July (2006) and we were in Kyiv again this year just a few weeks ago (Oct 2007). Thank GOD the Hryvnia has held at 504 / 505 = 1 USD! Everything seems more dirty in the main city and people appear "more aggressive" than in past years/visits. Taxi drivers are "demanding" LOTS of more hryvnia to make the same drive as in 2006. Many more cars now in Kyiv and the drivers are CRAZY! They drive on the sidewalks and don't mind running-you-over or just plain KILLING YOU or playing "chicken" as you cross the street. Lots of new construction with new buildings being sandwiched-in between older buildings ... looks like lots of illegal pay-offs to start all of these new condominium / flats.

This year we visited the famous Kiev Circus ... always wanted to do this but could never fit it into my schedule in the past! What a hoot!

For the 2nd consecutive year we have flown Aeorsvit (which I now have renamed "AERO-SPIT"). Last year (2006) we flew them to Moscow and this year we flew them to Athens. I CAN ONLY ADVISE EVERYONE TO COMPLETELY AVOID THIS AIRLINE IF YOU CAN! They "exude" their wonderful level of customer service" in all of their literature, however; I have traveled ALL OVER THE WORLD on virtually every known airline and "AERO-SPIT" gives the meaning and takes the level of "customer service" to an all-time record low! While my personal experiences in 2006 and 2007 were horrific, I was absolutely thrilled (this year) in Athens to watch their Lead Customer Service Agent have a 20-min non-stop "screaming match" with another passenger in front of at least 150 other people who were trying to "sign-in" at the ticket counter! Mmmmmmmmmm! And, of course, when I emailled them about my personal problems in Kyiv, Athens and onboard 2 flights .... "AERO-SPIT" wrote me back stating that there must have been some "miscommunication on my part!" (Clearly --- to them --- I am the problem --- not the airline! And so it goes ................

My wife and I are both Ukrainian Orthodox (I had my Christening at Vydubytsky Monestary in Kyiv last year).

I have been getting the run-around from the embassy. My impression is that it has to be renewed in Ukraine and NOT in USA!

That means a flight back and mucho $!

I would like to know if the amount of $595 stated on my letter is an error on the USCIS’ part and if I will receive a separate receipt for the biometrics fee that I paid, since I do not want any follow-up notices saying that I owe and additional $80, as I already paid for such before.

Answer: 2) The NOA is supposed to say $595, as that is the application fee. The receipt for the extra $80 is the Biometrics/Fingerprints letter itself. If you didn’t pay the $80, then you wouldn't be getting that (biometrics/fingerprint) letter.

And if you don't get a biomterics/fingerprint letter within 30 days of your NOA (as stated you would get such by then), then by all means, inquire further about your case...

Hi Folks....

Seems like everyone is getting a biometrics letter lickety-split after submitting for N-400 application..one week later, two weeks later at the most!

We filed N-400 Oct 15 .. they received Oct 16 and not a peep since except for the NOA receipt of application (Oct 21)? The USCIS web site says "last touched Oct 23)" - three weeks and counting ....

Sent to Lewisville, TX but now in Lee's Summit-land!

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated!!!

Can someone please advise what my wife needs to take into her N-400 interview?

1) I know that she needs her Ukrainian Passport.
2) I know that she needs her 10-yr GC.
3) I know that she needs other ID like her Driver's License.

I have read where tax transcripts may also be required? We had included them as a part of our
N-400 Application Submission (2008, 2007 & 2006) but do they also need to be taken to the interview?

Anything else?

We just received an email (Thursday 12/17) that our file has been tranferred to our local office for a "standard interview!"
