Thank you everyone for your input on the dual citizenship issue. All this information gives Fernanda and I a lot to consider. I do not see the kids staying more than 3 months at a time in Colombia. I do not know if it will really be necessary for them to have dual citizenship.

Also, Fernanda had her appointment today with Dr. Roa. She said that she had to completely undress. She started to tell me something else was strange, but said she did not know how to explain it in english. So I will find out tomorrow. She is a nurse and told the nurse at the office that it was completely unnecessary. But the nurse insisted that she must undress.

I have another question for those of you who have been to your interview. Fernanda was saying something about having to pay more for the K-3 at the Embassy. I told her that the $100 at the Banco de Credito was all she had to spend. Are there any additional fees besides the interview fee at the Banco de Credito and the Domesa fee you must pay for the K-3 visa?

Hello Matt, at the embassy the only thing you have to pay is for the DOMESA Delivered Service right after your Visa will be approved.

God Bless You,

Hi folks. I am in Bogota and just stopped in to VJCC to catch up.

First of all, a belated Happy Holidays to everyone!

Next, good luck to Byron & Leidy and MV & JR! With all the information available here in the Colombia Club I know you must be better prepared than 99% of other couples so try to relax.

Our petition arrived at the embassy today (14 days after the NOA2) and we will be faxing in our package 3 response tomorrow.

Has anyone who has been through the interview had to deal with a less than ideal situation in regards to a common language? Bella speaks very little English and my Spanish is adequate for us to communicate because she goes slowly and is patient with me while I try to figure out what she is saying. On the other hand, if someone hits me with some rapid fire Spanish I can get lost very quickly.

This is the one area that worries me. I think we are very strong on everything else. I keeping seeing a scenario in my head where I get called into the interview and the CO makes no effort to help me understand the questions and my Spanish is judged to be inadequate. My biggest fear is that we are denied on the basis of a lack of a common language.

And finally, Bella already has her Certificado Judicial and it is dated June 21, 2007. Will this be acceptable for a February interview? I think I read several times that it is good for one year, but I can´t find confirmation that the embassy will accept one that old.

Thanks!

Hi Bill, Congrats, Your Process is speeding up Now... It's very awesome!... Bella's Certicado Judicial Should be not problem, I had Mine Dated Old Too, We did not have any problem with that. If You send the Package 3 Tomorrow You may get a January Interview.

Happy New Year.

God Bless You,

This question arose during a conversation between my wife and I, and I was just wondering if anyone had an answer. If my wife and I have a child in the United States, can we apply for Colombian citizenship for the child, so that the child can have both U.S. and Colombian citizenship? Or would the child have to be born in Colombia in order to do that?

Dont Worry you can apply for the Colombian Citizenship for the Child, According with the Politic Constitution of Colombia in the ART. 96 .. Should be not problem for that.

So I am having the interview the 31st and I haven’t received packet 4, so I wrote to the embassy and they told me to go and pick up it in person tomorrow (hope it doesn’t takes long). The good news are that I will be able to do the exams and the doctors appointment without the appointment letter (did the fist one already) Now I have a question, I need to pay the 100 dollars (its equivalent in pesos) at the Banco de Credito but the DS- 156 IN SPANISH is required and I can only find it in English, somebody can help me?

Tnks a lot and good luck to all of you!![

The DS 156 in spanish is only required by the embassy, but not for the Bank.. The Bank will recieve it in english, They Recieved mine in english, then when I was in the Embassy for my interview, they gave me a Form DS 156 in spanish, for to fill it out, because they need to have in their record one in spanish that it's all.

You must pay 210.000 pesos at the Banco de Credito.

God Bless you.

kicking.gif kicking.gif "WE DID IT...WE'RE APPROVED !!!" kicking.gif kicking.gif

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! good.gif

This is how it all went down:
· On Friday we arrived in Bogota and met the driver we hired to pick us up at the airport. The drive to the apartment was about 10 minutes and is located 15 minutes by car to Embassy.

· On Monday we took a cab to the Laboratorio Clinico which opens at 7:00am until 10:00am. They do not make appointments so I suggest that you get there early, we arrived at 6:50am and there was about 20 people before us. Unfortunately the petitioner must wait outside and at that time it will be cold so dress warm. Being 20th in line she was finished at about 8:20am. (150 mil pesos)

· From the lab we took a 15-20 minute cab ride to the bank. I had the DS-156 filled out but that ended up a total waste of time because the bank required the form to be completed in Spanish and they also wanted all blanks on the form to have N/A. We finished at the bank at about 9:30am. (220 mil pesos poorer)

· The next step for Monday was a 5:30pm appointment with Dr. Roa. The cab ride was a little longer than expected (30 minutes) so we arrived just on time. It didn’t matter much because they saw her at about 6:30pm and the she was finished at 6:50pm. We waited for the documents to be completed left the office at about 7:30pm with the documents in hand. The Dr. saw her for a total of about 5 minutes, a quick exam and a bunch of questions (it was very painless and very professional). The vaccines MMR and TD were the only ones Yenifer needed which came up to a total of 37 mil pesos. Varicela would have been another 95 mil pesos but was determined not necessary because she had chickenpox as a child. (this was amazing to me that they waived this vaccine…this has got to be a first!!!) The total for Dr. visit: 135 mil + 37 mil= (172 mil pesos)

· Wednesday “interview day” 5:30am we took a cab to the Embassy to arrive outside at 5:45am. We were let in to form lines at the entrance at 6:30am where there are 3 marked lines, K visas line up in line 3.

· We were allowed to enter thru security/x-ray at 6:45am (cell phones are ok to bring in as long as they are turned off…yeah right…we saw a bunch of people using them) and then to area 40 where there was a person to help you to organize all of your documents in order in a folder that they supply.

· The next step is to wait for your name to be called. Yenifer was the first one called at 7:30 am to window 31 and we were the only K1 that I could see. (the woman at the window was a witch) She asked for her passport, then asked several questions: Where does she live? What does she do? What is her phone number? What is my phone number? How long have you been together? How many visits have I had? Do I speak Spanish? Does she speak English? Does she speak English very well???????(what???) After the questions she asked for the organized documents, stamped everything and asked us to go sit and wait near windows 1, 2, and 3 until her name is called.

· At 7:45am we found seats and the wait began.

· Yenifer’s name was called at 8:50am but only for finger printing…false alarm…the torturous wait continues. It at least seemed like we were making progress!!!

· Finally at 11:00 am her name was called again, this time to speak to the CO. He was about mid 40s, a little thin on top and she said he was very pleasant to speak to. He first greeted Yenifer and then asked her several questions: How did you meet? (online) How long have you been together? (9 months) Where does she (Yenifer) live? How old is he? Does either of us have kids? (no) Does he speak Spanish? (no) Do you speak English? (yes) What does he do? When was his first visit? Where does he stay when he comes to visit? Where will you live in the U.S.? Do you have pictures? (yes about 60 with us) He looked through all of the pictures and asked if that was me (I stood about 10 feet behind her). He gave me the thumbs up and said to her “ WELCOME YOUR VISA IS APPROVED”.

· We were then directed to the DOMESA booth which is inside the Embassy to pay for delivery. (32 mil pesos inside Bogota) They told us it could take 8 days but we are hoping it will be much less. We designated the office of the apartment place that we are staying to be the location of the delivery and specifically the secretary will sign for it since she is there during normal business hours and she was nice enough to do this for us so that we don’t have to hibernate in our apartment. If you designate someone, DOMESA needs full name, address, and national I.D. of that person.

Congratulations to Scott and Yenifer

Yes, You most Notarized the I-134 here in The USA, usually if you do it by your BANK, they will do it for free.

Brian,
Thanks for all your advise! That being said, I have another question, hopefully you can answer.
I submitted a notorized I-134 with my 129 Application. Will I need another one for the interview? Will the Packet 4 information Sandy receives advise to additional documentation I am required to provide? I used an attorney who demanded I provide all of that prior to submission of the 129. Additionally I provided 3 years tax returns as well.

GREETINGS !!

THE 1-134 IS BROUGHT TO THE INTERVIEW WITH YOUR K-1

PACKET 4 IS JUST THE INTERVIEW LETTER

PACKET 3 ADVISES ALL DOCUMENTS NEEDED FOR THE INTERVIEW

3 YEARS TAX RETURNS IS ALL YOU NEED

ATTORNEYS LIKE TO HAVE ALL PAPERWORK UP FRONT, ALTHOUGH THE 1-134 IS NOT REQUESTED BY USCIS AT THE I-129 APPLICATION

READ BACK ON THIS THREAD AND YOU WILL FIND LINKS TO SEE THE DOCS REQUIRED FOR PACKAGE 3 THAT WILL BE NEEDED FOR THE INTERVIEW.

Brian,
Congratulations and thanks for all the information! I am preparing for our interview hopefully in January. I believe that I am very prepared as well. What I am lacking and I believe I can obtain are all my Western Union reciepts! I have used this service for about eight months now to send Sandy $$$ as needed. The Attorney that I wasted lots of money on, originally told me that I would not need them as it would show I was more or less supporting Sandy, and that would be frowned upon at the Embassy.
My question is did they even look or ask for this information? In any event I will contact Western Union today, I believe they will have records, they can forward to me.

Steve,

If you have the western union gold card, all your records will be available. I HAVE also heard your attorneys opinion from others. THE embassy's
job is also to protect you and they have had problems in the past with woman using the man for monetary support and wanting to come to the USA Obviously, not your situation, but has become a issue there in Colombia and elsewhere. There job is to see A VALID RELATIONSHIP EXISTS. yes.gif

AS FAR AS THOSE THAT HAVE HIRED ATTORNEYS, my opinion is they waste your money and slow you down, I have close friends that have paid $2,000.00 USD for the k-1 and they did nothing for them that you couldn't have done yourself and follow all the advice in this forum is THE BEST ROUTE. good.gif

WE DID NOT USE AN ATTORNEY AND DID ALL THE PAPERWORK OURSELF (Although my wife is a abogada (attorney) and a expert in Colombian law and procedures) and we were approved first, before our friends, this is mainly due to going thru the attorney as a third party with mailings and notifications to you after they are notified. whistling.gif so THIS SLOWS DOWN YOUR PROCESS WITH A ATTORNEY...

star_smile.gif Follow the procedures here and fax the embassy as soon as you know the BGT case number from NVC or DOS. That will save you 3 weeks time to get the interview. Faxes sent in before the 15th of the month will get next month Interviews. after that you will wait till the next month. star_smile.gif
good.gif
Good Luck and God Bless you and Sandy !!!!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR WISHES FOR US-we appreciate it innocent.gif

What will she have to go through????
What will she need???

GREETINGS BYRON !! yes.gif

lEIDY WILL WAIT FOR THE VISA TO BE MAILED BY domesa, they will tell you it takes 6-8 days, but for us, we received in 3 days.
once she is approved she will call the DOMESA office in bogota and ask them for her to pick it up there at the office, not delivered, saves a few days. star_smile.gif

Than, she will have a sealed package from the US Embassy which she will give to Immigration upon arrival and they will escort her to a office there and do a quick interview and review all the paperwork that is in the sealed package, NO ONE CAN OPEN THAT PACKAGE BUT THE IMMIGRATION OFFICER AT THE POE. They took only 30 minutes for us and were strictly business, they review the passport and documents and than, keep the package the Embassy give you and put you on your way. So the 2 things she will need are the PASSPRT WITH K-1 VISA and the big envelope that is in the Embassy Package mailed to you with the visa. kicking.gif

I am sure you will have no problems and my advice is Dont volunteer any info or questions, let the Consular Officer ask you and Leidy the questions and have lots of documentation, photo albums, I had 3, emails, chats, phone records, western union receipts etc. and you will do fine. I walked in carrying 3 notebooks, all organized and our wedding album and 2 big photo albums and the AMerican Consular female officer just smiled at me, looked at the stack of albums I was carrying and just smiled and never asked to see anything or talk to me, She did wave good bye to me and said Good Luck after, she told YENYS, she was APPROVED good.gif

star_smile.gif Be there at the gate of the Embassy by no later than 5:45 am and you will enter early and be done early... yes.gif

Can someone answer this simple question: I received my tax transcripts for the last three years and am going to submit them with the I-134. I will also add the last three months of my paystubs and a letter from my employer. Do I still need to send my W-2's and my 1040's? I thought the tax transcripts would be ok in place of the returns and W-2's, but my novia is telling me that I need to send them. Which should I send?

Bundy

BUNDY<

I only submitted 3 years tax transcripts, 3 months of paystubs and the letter from my employer and this is brought with you to the interview with the affadavit of support and was accepted at our interview on 12/04/07 and We were approved. This is my experience and had no problems, Our interview was less than 5 minutes and we were Approved and the vice consul never even talk to me or ask me any questions other than to tell me congratulations, your wife is approved. if you have the tax transcripts for the 3 years, YOU DO NOT NEED THE W-2 OR 1040'S

Hi All, We wil talk about our experience with the Vaccination. good.gif

I took my Vaccionation 15 days prior at my interview which was ok For the Doctor Gonzalez, There are place avalaible by the Guverment for to Do this, Like CRUZ ROJA (international), Here in Cartagena FATIMA, and I think there are more have license to Do it, In Bogota Brian and I Stayed in the Area called GALERIA, closer at the Stadium EL CAMPIN, there is a center shopping with the same name where they have a Vaccination Center, they are open 9-11 am and 2-4p.m where they administer all the vaccinations! kicking.gif

Neophi, Sooner you know the day for The interview you most call one of the Doctor of your preference to make the appointment Doesnt matter if you gett the package 4 or not! as long as you have your interview date. kicking.gif

and The Doctor will check your Body in General, the person will be only in under wear, so the doctor will check almost everything they think have to be checked. innocent.gif

It's not True that The Doctor Roa is the only one that can administer the vaccinations! whistling.gif

I wish you guys can gett everything Done very soon.

kicking.gif APPROVED AT INTERVIEW TODAY, TOOK LESS THAN 5 MINUTES AND WE HAD A PROFESSIONAL AND COURTEOUS AMERICAN WOMAN WHO WAS ACTUALLY FRIENDLY AND CORDIAL WITH US, DID NOT ASK FOR ANYTHING OTHER THAN A FEW QUESTIONS TO MY WIFE, BOTH IN ENGLISH AND SPANISH, we will post details later, but the simple story is we got there AT 0530 AND WERE NUMBER 3 IN LINE AND APPROVED AND OUT THE DOOR by 11 am, sorry so short, but we are at a internet cafe , here in Bogota and we just wanted to share the good news. DOMESA WOULD NOT ALLOW US TO PICK UP AT OFFICE, THEY TOLD US IT MUST BE DELIVERED TO A ADDRESS, THATS WHAT THEY TOLD US ANYWAYS. We will post the details of the interview in a couple days when we return to cartagena...good luck all and may your experiences be as easy and pleasant as ours.

HEY EVERYBODY!!!!

I'm getting a little nervous here but I guess that's normal...I really can't wait to get to Bogota next week!!!

I spoke with Bob at Bogota Colombia Lodging (very nice and helpful guy) today and he told me he had a couple staying at his accomodations that went through the embassy and were approved on Monday...they had their visa package sent to Bob's office and received it this morning. Three working days seems to be safe but I just changed our flights to allow four working days just in case. (working days:Mon-Fri not including holidays)

Pretty good news that they are pretty quick getting it to a Bogota address.

P.S. Bob came highly recommended by others that have stayed there and now I know why.

This post has been edited by Scott n Yenifer: Yesterday, 03:52 PM

WOW!!!!!! Things are changing fast. They seem to make it more difficult with everything they do. Sounds like you may have the answeare Scott. stay in Bogota a few extra days to get the visa.
To get the certificate of migration now sounds like a extra trip to Bogota for most folks, that sucks.
I am planning on getting Paola's son up here soon and will have to plan on all this. Thanks for the info folks.

Scott, Bogota is a wierd place. You go from freezing to sweating and back to freezing in a span of just a few minets. The wait outside of the embassy in the early morning was close to hell for us. I wore only a light shirt with a very light jacket. The wind and rain was a tad bit miserable too. We arrived at 5:30am and stood around for about 45 min. You can get there about 6am and be fine in IMHO.
Nervous is when yopu approach the interview window and have your brain go blank. I sat there confident while waiting, then, Paola's name was called and my brain just went blank. LOL>LOL.
I think you and Brian are the next two in line. Good luck to both of you. (and your fiancee's)

Greetings all:

Yenys is already in Bogota today for the medical and lab exam and I will be flying in early Saturday Morning!!!!

el Parque de la 93, its called Galeria Cafe y Libro.. will be visited by us, Saturday night and we will be thinking of you guys, wishing
the best...

Our Interview is TUESDAY 5 December 2007 and Of course I will be at the Embassy with the love of my life.

I will ask as many questions there as possible that I have read here to hopefully fill you on on our APPROVAL !!!!!
But after tomorrow, I will not be on VJ, untill after the interview, because I am not bringing the laptop to Bogota.

My wife found a cute, clean hotel and its only 60,000 Pesos a night, 15 minutes from the Embassy, a $5.00 USD cab ride there.

I am soo excited to see my wife again after 3 months since my last visit and get her K3 visa to bring her back here to Miami.

See you soon and KEEP THE FAITH....GOD BLESS ALL OF YOU , AMEN

This makes day number eight since the interview. That is the date that DOMESA projects too, so at least they are keeping their word on that. Anyway I hope this helps some of you guys out. By the way, is there a forum for the AOS or life in America or anything like that? Take care guys.

AWESOME...THANKS JMARSH

Now just thinking out loud...approved on Monday the 19th...
Tuesday the 20th - 1st full day after interview...
Wednesday the 21st - 1/2 day for the embassy...

Friday the 23rd - full day for the embassy (a total of 2 1/2 days so far)...
Monday the 26th - full day for the embassy (a total of 3 1/2 days)...pickup from DOMESA Tuesday.

In Jmarsh's case it was a total of 3 1/2 working days to receipt of visa...not totally outrageous.

I am in the same situation byron, I have had 7 weeks off this year to be with Yenys in Colombia and we already had booked our tickets, So now, I can not wait in Colombia a extra week and wait on the mail for the Visa, My wife now will join me in MIAMI , a week later and travel here alone, which makes me mad, But what can we do. I cant take anymore time off from work, which as you said perfect, pays bills and provides me a very good living here
or just had to make alternative plans now. But as long as my wife is here by the 16th I will be sooo HAPPY. All I want for Christmas is my Wife to be with me !!!

WIll stay in touch !!

On wednesday (tomorrow) you should call the embassy between 2-4 and verify they have it. It really is NOT necessary to also mail it, but since you already did, thats ok, just extra money spent. We never mailed ours and just faxed on monday and called on wed. and they recieved it and gave us the interview date. Since its now the end of November, you should have a January interview date, because the cutoff is the 15th of the month for the next months interviews. Everything will happen fast now for you, get all your documents required ready now.

Scott and Yenifer have posted the updated flow chart and advice and has links for both package 3 and package 4. Download them now and start preparing your needed documents.

What else am i missing??????

1. Passport
2. Baptism Certificate (Fe de bautismo con notas marginales. Fotocopia autenticada)
3. Birth Certificate (Registro Civil)
4. Police Certificate (Certificado Judicial del DAS)
5. Migratory Certificate (Carta del DAS, entradas/salidas)

I keep reading that it costs $15 to call the embassy, so I don't plan on doing that just to check on the status. Our paperwork arrived at the embassy on 3/24 (per DHL).

Hi all.

The appointments for December (first part) are already in Bogotá’s US embassy website.
Check it out you might be lucky. reading.gif
I’m hopping our BGT # will be on the second part, if they actually post a second part. sleepy.gif

Good luck to all....... Ana

http://bogota.usemba...ppointments.pdf

That is the most godawful list I have ever seen. It would kill them to sort it by BGT number so someone could find their appointment without looking at 13 pages of mind numbing numbers?

Also, I must have missed something. There is a first and second part? What is the second part?

FAST tips for searching the interview document with adobe acrobat

Here is how to automatically search the interview list in 5 seconds good.gif

A. Open the PDF file from the BGT Embassy interview list
B. Click on the binoculars thats says search
C. Type in your BGT number (Example BGT2007XXXXXX] in the search box on the right
D. search and you will find it if it appears in 5 seconds or tell you that it found no Info, meaning your number is not listed

I hope this helps others as its very simple when you follow the above directions

I am using Acrobat 8 and professional versions and works great, we also did all our paperwork ourselves with Acrobat
professional and saved the $1,500.00 most people pay a attorney to do, which is not needed in most cases. no0pb.gif

God Bless you and Have a Wonderful Holiday Season !! star_smile.gif

I found it on here http://www.visajourn...showtopic=96213
