Does anyone know how long of a wait it is in Santo Dominigo Dominican Republic for a K1 Visa Interview. I have been hearing horror stories and wanted to know if they are true. It is suppose to be almost two years. Is this true? If so is there any anticipation of it going faster any time soon, thanks for your response in advance. WJR

The horror stories are correct. 20-24 months currently is just the wait for an interview, not counting your time through the USCIS, and if you are married, the NVC. It took me 20 months total, and that was when there were just 16,000 people on the waiting list.

If you don't believe me look here:

I did not say that I did not believe you....lol. I was just hoping that it was not true. But you still have me worried about my income and benefits. Actually you truely got me scared S!!!less about the whole thing. Especially when you said that you would wonder how I get the money to visit etc, you gave me chills as I was reading that. Do they give oyu a chance to even answer your planns or how you get the money? And if they did by some chance denie him for that is there a way I can get an appeal or do something about it? Anyways, I took a look at your picture from your last visit. Is your wife from Nagua? And I seen this restaurant you two were at, would it happen to bee in cabrera? If so, I LOVE that place, me and my fiance go there every time I am out there.

Well maybe I sound a bit harsh but now is not the time to be "nicey nicey", you want REAL advice. Trust me if they don't say it they will be thinking what I said. I don't mean to judge you but people are going to wonder, and you better have a good reason prepared. I know priorities are not always the way they should be when we are in love with someone.

You can't just "have plans to get the money", you have to HAVE the money or get someone to co-sponsor him with you. If you can't do that, you probably should rethink what you are doing.

Yes, she is from Nagua and that is Ross's Restaurant in Cabrere. Great place, great food. If you like that one you should visit Hernandez in Matanzita right outside of Nagua on the way to Samana, the food is maybe even better than Ross, but not quite the atmosphere, although it is right on the beach, that is nice.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionEmbassy Interview Checklists..New Change???

Hello, I heard the same thing from the lady that help me with my application (Notary Public) I called the USCIS office and they did not have an answer for me. If anyone know for wich countries they are doing this please let me know? mine is Dominican Republic. Also the lady told me that this is the reason why USCIS is taking so long and that is the reason they haven't move for the I130 for the last 8 month and still on 03/12/06. She said that it was only for the I130 and not for the I129f.

Thanksssss

Yodrak is correct, USCIS has nothing to do with anything that goes on at the Consulate.

I hate to inform you of this but there is a 20-24 months wait at the Dominican consulate just for the interview date. There are over 28,000 cases on a waiting list. Your case will appear on the waiting list after it gets approved by the USCIS if you filed a K visa. If you are filing an immigrant visa, you will still have more processing at the NVC before you even get to the waiting list.

The waiting list is here:

http://www.usemb.gov...aiting_list.htm

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionForm I-134 Soon to Expire

Last night, I was getting my I-134 Affidavit of Support ready and I noticed the text "Exp. 04-30-07". Does anyone know if this mean that the form is only valid until April 30th 2007? If so, is there a more updated copy available?

Thanks, David

Hi David,

Your form will be fine. Check here for the edition dates that are acceptable:

http://tinyurl.com/2rkoc3

Right from USCIS web site:

If you get a chance, stop over at our board just for Dominican immigration. I hate to tell you thi but the wait is about 2 years because there is a huge backlog of 28,000 cases.

The Consulate in Santo Domingo sends just one packet of instructions approximately 25 days prior to your appointment. There has been no packet 3 at this Consulate for almost 3 years now as Yodrak commented.

It was only 2 times because the first one was not clear. Also remember this is not your website DOMINICANTOUSA where you treat members like SHT. That's why almost everybody is going to the new site where they have respect. Stop making up story like the one with Bent you and everybody knows that he dosen't exist instead start getting ready for your retirement. OLD OLD OLD. (L)

Sounds like a case of sour grapes to me.

I have indeed personally spoken to Chief Consul Bent on the telephone. Let me assure you he is a real person. If you choose not to benefit from advice directly from the Consulate, that is your choice of course.

There have been no appointments officially scheduled by the NVC for the Dominican Republic yet and there probably won't be until the waiting list is cleared. We have no idea of what the procedure will be.

Thank you.. but if NVC doesn't know how the procedure will be why are you assuming that NVC won't be giving appt until the waiting list is clear. So why the new implemantation? This is mean that now NVC will be keeping files in a draw for 2 years. Because to get an appt from D.R. there is a waiting time of 12-24 months. Do you work for NVC? NVC doesn't keep files that long. I will be holding tight and waiting until my time comes to get my appt 12-18 months.

You sure are stubborn. On our forum we have a feature where we ask questions of the Chief Consul at the Consulate. I have personally spoken to him on the phone. We have been assured that people on the waiting list will get their appointments first directly in writing from Chief Consul William D. Bent. Want any more proof? Why don't you come over to the site and check it out for yourself?

Thank you YMR, do you know if I have to obtain original tax return copies from the IRS? My accountant filed electronically for me, and all of my copies have the image "CLIENT COPY" diagonally across them

That is absolutely fine, you don't have to get anything from the IRS. I just used copies of my actual return that I had made when I filed.

But, I will inform you when I receive my packet 3. So, you can get a better idea about the processing time. God Bless. good.gif

There is no packet 3 in the DR. You will get a packet for the interview approximately 1 month prior to your interview.

US Embassy and Consulate Discussioni cant go to the consular interview, will my spouse be denied?

my wife is scheduled for a consular interview in sdo on may 31 2011 and because of an arrest and pending court date and possible jail time, the govermnemt wont let me out the coutnry to be with her for the intervies. in this case she has to go by herself. will my court case, and me not being able to go to the consular interview be an automatic decline for her visa.she has me as a sponsor and my cousin who with both our income is well over 130k a year. im working now and saving money, what can she do to make her interview a success without me there, thank you.

In reality you MUST attend the interview. There is almost no way you are going to be approved without being there. Worse yet, if you don't go, they will probably give her an open interview and then put you on AR (administrative review) which can take months to process. Figure a way to get your legal stuff done so you can attend.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionDR FEES

So I am a little confused.. Pero este processo me tiene loca.. When our case gets sent to the NVC we dont have to pay the $350 dollar visa payment then? or do we pay for the visa twice?

That's correct, K1s don't pay anything at the NVC, all your fees are paid at the interview. CR-1/IR-1 visa holders have an additional step at the NVC and some of the fees are paid there instead of at the embassy. You don't pay the visa fee twice.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionSDO Spec Question

US petitioner, should we have the long birth certificate or is the "certificate" itself sufficient

If you have a passport, you do NOT need a birth certificate for this process. Either form is fine if you need it but all travel requires a passport nowadays so why not use that instead?

I was divorced in NY State, I have the judgment of divorce, dated for Sept 30, 2010 entered into the court on October 6, 2010, to DR standards is this sufficient?

Should be just fine. It has to be a certified copy, read your form directions and it will tell you exactly what you need.

With regard to beneficiary, can they have the documents ready and just have them legalizada once the interview day draws near?

You are going to need the legalized documents prior to your interviw most likely. It's not hard to have them legalized and you can do it in Santo Domingo OR Santiago. Most towns also have a courier that will do it for a fee, just be careful with those that you don't get overcharged.

If the cedula is expired, is the paper receipt they receive enough? (He was told that they are not ready to print new cedulas as of yet)

Thanks for the responses

As was stated here, he is going to need the actual cedula. Even if he has to make a trip to Santo Domingo or Santiago, you need to have him get on this and not fool around waiting. It CAN be done if you know where to go and who to tip.

Rule of thumb here is if it is considered income for tax purposes, it will be for the visa as well. That being said, they will consider that you are unemployed if you still are. I would find a joint sponsor if you have any doubt at all.

You should bring an updated AOS, and I would recommend using an I-864 this time as you will need it anyway when you adjust status. You cannot be over prepared for the interview.

The 877 number is a call center in MEXICO. Don't waste your money. Have him take his passport to window 26/27 on the outside of the Embassy and tell them he needs his packet. If you have a copy of the packet then by all means use that one, copy the entire packet, and send him the original to use for the medical.

Good to hear you are getting some help from elected officials. Even if they can't do anything, its nice to know they at least get back with you. Hehe yay for letter writers ;)

Yes, it is good to hear she got some responses. Unfortunately they will not be able to help her. The list is 28,000 cases long and takes 20-24 months just to get an appointment. The State department is well aware of the problem and they have made some changes to help eliminate the backlog but it isn't going to happen overnight.

We now have a new feature on our forum which is exclusively for Dominican immigration. The Chief Consul at the Consulate will answer questions once a week for us. We also have a suggestion box for ideas on how to eliminate the backlog. The special forum for this is here:

http://dominicanstot...wforum.php?f=20

Feel free to join us and ask questions of the Chief Consul.

You can't say that Cali is slower or faster than the VSC. Each case is different and I have seen approvals take 1 month and then some take 6 months, both filed at the same time. It's a matter of who's desk it gets on and how long the background checks take.

hey everyone! i've been waiting nearly 2 months for an interview date (since april 5). i've called the local number (202 663 1225) to find out if a date has been set (as of 5/20 it hasn't). you don't have to spend money calling the consulado in dr. calling the visa specialist number is free and they give you the same info.

Yes, don't waste your money on the Mexico number (that is where the call center is). You should be aware it can take 3-4 months in some cases to get an interview date.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsIf the worst happens....
Unfortunately, in most all cases you will not stop them from adjusting status even if you report everything to ICE and USCIS. We have a member on our forum who had been physically abused by her husband and police reports were filed and such and he STILL got his green card even though she filed numerous reports to ICE and USCIS before his adjustment came up. The attitude we are seeing is they just don't care. In fact, I don't know of ANY case where the spouse was able to stop the beneficiary from getting their green card, and I have seen several hundred of these fraud cases on our forum.

You should also be aware if you are not, that you need to pay a total of over $1,000 to adjust status when he gets here and you have to file it within 90 days in addition to getting married within that time frame. The K1 is a big hassle and for this reason we recommend the CR-1 instead. Like was stated here, the intent of the K1 is not to see if you like the person, but to get them here supposedly faster than marrying them (that has not been the case recently). Just wanted to give you a heads up that you will have to come up with some serious cash soon after he arrives.

There really is no "skipping" over people as there is no "single" line here. The cases go to many adjudicators with many different workloads. If an adjudicator just happens to have many difficult cases before yours, then yours will be delayed and someone else's case on another adjudicator's desk will get processed ahead of yours. Another thing that could happen is that you may have a name hit and then your case would need additional investigation. There is no "line" we are waiting in. All cases go to the USCIS and then from there to individual adjudicator's desks. Some of these people will be slow by nature and some will be fast. Some will have a few large cases and some will have very clean cases, it' just luck of the draw.

Please listen to Aztec and others. The K1 is single entry so if you do this you would have to start the whole process over again. Wait for your AOS or travel permit or better yet, travel in the USA. I really think it's best that you don't go back to the DR for a while, my wife didn't go back for two years and when she did, she couldn't wait to get back "home" to the US! Now, she doesn't want to go at all. They will get homesick in the first 3-6 months but just be there for them and try to get over the "hump".
