US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion for my own clarification
YEP that would be the one! :) :)

She is getting her passport with the visa in it tomorrow via DHL, just wondering if that packet is going to be there too :)

Edit:

It says on there the visa is inside the packet... Does that mean you don't get the passport back in hand?

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionQuestion for my own clarification
The packet is recieved with the passport once the visa is attached correct?

This being the mysterious packet that is turned over at the POE.

Ok, I have started to read thru most of the forms and this isn't quite as complicated as I first thought. However, it is still a bit overwhelming. I continue to be amazed at the volume of information on this site. :)

thanx everybody for the welcome.

The whole process seems a little convaluted and frightening to be quite honest. I am still considering everything that is required. I do have another question tho (since the first was answered so quickly):

- How long does the Advance Parole usually take to issue after the paperwork has been filed?

Reason for this is that she wants to return to Peru for a second ceremony that can be attended by friends/family etc down there ASAP. Just trying to get some realistic expectations.

From what I have seen so far, it seems that the visa process should take 9 to 12 months barring anything crazy happening. Ironically trying to figure all this out is easing my mind from the stress of the relocation to Cleveland with the new job.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNewb Introduction
Hello everybody. New here, but I have been lurking for a week or so. Name is Jake, and I live in Ohio. The background on why I am here is that last year a mutual friend introduced me to a great girl who just happens to live in Lima Peru. Got to know her pretty well, went to visit and things sparked. If things work out like I hope (starting a new job next week that requires a relocation to cleveland), I will be back in Lima in April to officially propose.

With that in mind, I have read many of the faqs and used the search function a bit to see if I can find answers to most of my questions. I understand the timelines involved, paperwork required, etc. for the most part.

A couple of questions tho:
1) It seems that many of the legal groups who work w/ K1 visas throw the fear factor in there saying that doing it yourself you risk lots of tie-ups. Is this truly the case? Should one spend the extra 1500$ or so on someone to draw up the paperwork?

2) It seems from the search function that there is a requirement to be in Peru for the consular interview.... verification?

This is an awesome site. I never would have thought I would be in love with someone and need this information, but what a refreshing resource this is.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedureskeerrchiinnggg!! The price of moving to the US!??
I honestly expected it to be a bit more expensive. My initial budget going into this whole process was 5 grand just for the k3 / AOS process. It looks like that may actually be a little high if i can avoid doing the lawayer bit. It is just the stress of the whole situation I am not looking forward to.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJob Status/changing jobs question
thanx a bundle. you answered my question perfectly. I didn't know if the current job changed if that was going to create issues/problems. I am waiting until I have a new 'permanant' address before I begin the filing process to avoid the mail hassles as well (I barely trust the USPS much less two govt agencies working together to get things delivered reasonably).

Thank you very much-
JrH

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresJob Status/changing jobs question
Ok, I am starting a new job next week (hurray me) that requires me to relocate. However, it is a 90 to perm position. For the first 90 days I am going to be a consultant with an open contract for the client to hire me directly without penalty from the consulting company. This is pretty standard procedure in the IT industry these days with higher risk positions.

So, this leads me to the question, since I know my employer is probably going to change in the next 3 to 4 months, even though I will most likely be sitting in the same exact desk (and be making the same exact salary), should I wait to begin the petition? Or can I just file an addendum when my employer changes? How much will this run the risk of hosing the process?

Thanx :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLatin naming - two last names - how to put on forms?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLatin naming - two last names - how to put on forms?
Ok, I am really confused on how this is supposed to go on the form.

First Name: Katherine
Mother's Name: Garcia
Father's Name: Matto

She puts her name down as Katherine Matto Garcia. How do I put this on the forms? Garcia as the middle name? No middle name? Just put the full name in other names used? Put in mother's name only in other names used?

I am soooo lost..... This First Name, Father's Name, Mother's Name format is messing with my head.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOk, Nervous about one question
I know this probably just me being overly critical in looking back over everything that I already sent in, BUT......

on the question 18 of 129F I did not put down anything about how we first met, just the details on when we met in person. This is still ok right? My brain is my own worst enemy.

ok, spent a half an hour on the phone w/ CSC this morning. The lady was not the most pleasant person in the world, but was at least efficient. The number of questions was a little amazing, especially just to get one field corrected. She said that I should have some form of notification of the change in the next 30 days. I hope everything goes smoothly with this.....

I looked over the NOA1 closer and noted that they left off the E on the end of Katherine.

Just call them and have them correct it over the phone?

would everybody just sit back and relax? burying them in unwarranted paperwork, emails, phone calls, and just b*tch sessions is only slowing down the entire process. let them figure it out and then request what is needed. that way when you send it (if even ever requested), the process is in place to handle it.

there is an example document here that you can attach to the form that states that the person who did the tranlating swears that they are profficient in both languages and that it is correct. a 3rd party looks better, especially if it is a police record....
