K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 interview
My fiancé and I were notified that are case has been sent to the consulate in Nigeria and for us to wait to be notified once the embassy is ready to proceed with our case. Will they notify us of a interview date or are we to set up a date online? If anyone has any information on this process it will be appreciated. Thank you

National Visa Center (Dept of State)NVC case number

From the recent trend of other cases, including mine, it takes three weeks for an approved case to be shipped to the NVC (should receive a status update about this), then about another additional week for them to receive it. Once they receive it, you should be able to get your case number by calling them.

I wouldn't call everyday, I'd suggest to wait until you receive the notification that the case was shipped, but it's up to you.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsAPPROVED!?!?!

Congrats! I also receive the approved status yesterday July 25, 2013! So excited. I was transferred to TSC on July 10th. My NOA 1 was sent on April 25, so a total of 91 days. I can't believe it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsApril Filers 2013 K1

My status was just updated saying my approved case was shipped to the Department of State. I received the email for my NOA2 on July 25, so it also took 3 weeks just to ship.

Just called NVC and they said it takes up to 8 weeks, what DOS number are you calling? Why is it better than calling NVC, less wait time?

Have you received your case number or more updates to your status?

I just got an email saying we've been shipped to NVC! Finally, it only took 20 days. I'll refrain from calling tomorrow and just wait until Monday. Hopefully we'll get the case number. Fingers crossed!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 Co-Sponsor Documents
Thanks. I actually sent the passport to a cousin who is traveling there this week, I had the same worry about mailing it. Well, it looks like we should be set. I have checked everything at least 20 times, haha. I'm just paranoid we could be missing something, but I've used this forum to clear all doubts, it's a great resource! We never received the letter, but I have read several posts from other people here that she can get it upon her arrival to CDJ, same for her pictures, it's just better to get them there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 Co-Sponsor Documents

It is not adjusted gross, it is simply current gross income that is used. For example, someone that is making $10 an hour working full-time would make $400 a week, times 52 weeks in a year means they make $20,800. That would be their current annual income. You do not use the amount from last year's taxes, you use your current income amount, unless you are self-employed(then it would be Total Income from line 22 of the most recent 1040).

Yes, you should include a letter from your employer and recent pay stubs. They might accept your income on its own, if it meets the requirement. If your job is really new, then a co-sponsor may be a good way to go, but if you currently make enough, the co-sponsor may not even be needed.

Does your co-sponsor have their pay info online? Lots of people get paid by direct deposit and have no actual pay stubs, but the 'pay stubs' can be found online because many places use employee portals where you can log in and see all the information about your pay and benefits and such. If that is the case, you can print out the pay stubs from there. The bank statements also work if there is no other way than to show the money being deposited to the bank. The co-sponsor should also provide proof of being a USC or LPR in case it is needed.

Thank you for responding and clarifying the income. Since I just started my job this week, I would barely have my first paycheck but the time she goes to her interview, and I feel I wouldn't have enough proof, so I think I'll stay with a cosponsor.

My co-sponsor works in construction in a small business with just my dad and another brother so he's unable to get paystubs. His monthly/weekly salary varies depending on the amount of jobs they have, but his bank statements do show deposits.

Would an original document be needed to prove my cosponsor is a US citizen or is a copy fine? Such as a scan of birth certificate or scan of US passport. He is a USC by birth. I have already sent my fiancee my us passport, sine I know they want original documents for me, the petitioner.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI-134 Co-Sponsor Documents

Hello,

My fiancee has her interview in Ciudad Juarez (CDJ) in three weeks! We have pretty much everything in order but wanted to check if I was missing anything for the I-134 Affadavit of Support with Co-Sponsor. I just graduated from college and started my full-time job, but my most recent tax return does not meet the minimum income requirements. Therefore, I've decided to use a co-sponsor.

I have asked my brother to be the co-sponsor, and for a household of 6 (himself, his wife, 3 children and my fiancee), he meets the 125% 2013 poverty guidelines with an adjust gross income of $45,000 (minimum is $39,500).

1. He filed his taxes jointly with his wife, but she does not have a job, therefore all the income can be attributed to him, correct?

2. Also, I only need his name and original signature on of the Co-sponsor i-134 form, correct?

I have the following documents for i-134:

  • i-134 form with original signature (mine and co-sponsor)
  • Job letter (mine and co-sponsor) 3. Should I even include mine since I'll be using a co-sponsor?
  • Tax return transcripts for past three years (mine and co-sponsor): 4. Should I even send mine, since I'm using a co-sponser?
  • Bank statements for past 6 months (co-sponsor) 5. He does not have pay stubs so I was hoping his bank statements are enough for supporting evidence.  Would this be fine, to include bank statments which show his deposots, instead of paystubs?

6. Do I have all the financial documents required for the i-134?

Any advice or feedback (especially from those that have used a co-sponsor) would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaHelp on K1 VISA.

Kellymeow,

Seems like every case is different but for reference...  We received our NOA2 (case sent to NVC) on August 30.  The consulate in Ciudad Juarez opened their file on October 15th, and we just received our notification to schedule the appointment.  So about 1.5 months for it to get through NVC to the consulate, and another 2 weeks for them to process.

Good luck to you!

Dave

Mexico, Latin & South Americamedical exam in Juarez for minor children and police certificates

My understanding is that all of the medical appointments should be done at least 1-2 days prior to the interview.  The instruction letter says on pages 6 and 7: "Visa applicants are received between 6:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Monday through Friday, excluding Mexican holidays."  So it seems like Saturday is not an option.  You should call the medical facilities to confirm their holiday schedule.

Good luck!

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK-1 Processing in Mexico City?

Thanks for the replies!  In the beginning I was certain that all the K-1's went through Ciudad Juarez, but what confused me recently is that on the stats page there is a line for Mexico City K-1.  Actually, there is one for Tijuana too.  Both are very small numbers.  I'm assuming that's a result of people entering incorrect data in their profile.

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionK-1 Processing in Mexico City?

First, thanks to everyone who has provided information here.  It has been immensely helpful in our K-1 process.  So far things have gone pretty smooth for us, we are just about to schedule our interview at the consulate. smile.png

That leads me to my question.  At the time we filed our petition, we had the impression that all Mexico K-1 processing was done at the consulate in Ciudad Juarez, so that is the site we put on our form.  Recently, checking some of the statistical data on this site, I saw data on K-1 processing times at the Mexico City consulate.  It would actually be much easier for her to have the interview in Mexico City.  Since our case is already in Juarez, we are afraid to change it now.  But just for reference, and for the benefit of future applicants, does anyone know if that is truly an option?  Did it change recently?  (Basically I want to know if I'm a moron and I missed that detail...)  Also, if anyone wants to share their experience with moving a case from one consulate to another, I'd be interested in hearing how it went.

Thanks!

Dave

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWould it be faster processing with a lawyer

I wouldn't profess to understand all of the ins and outs of how these various agencies work, but I would expect that the key is to provide complete and accurate information, and follow all of the instructions carefully.  Be meticulous about your application, check and double check everything.  If you're not the meticulous careful type, a lawyer or a close friend with good organizational skills could be helpful.

Finding the "instructions" was our big concern until we found VisaJourney.  We found the information here to be more clear and complete than what I got from a local lawyer, so we decided to do it ourselves with the help of this community.  We followed the checklist for the I-129F package to the letter, and so far things have gone very smoothly.

I'll also echo some advice I've seen on here several times - try to prepare ahead of time for each step.  Some of these forms and requirements require you to gather a lot of information or evidence (or to get some advice about how to answer - not all of the questions are clear) and it can get pretty stressful if you're trying to do it in a rush.

Good luck and best wishes!
