Ok, the questions begin. I met Luz through Yahoo personals. I am guessing that it isn't a MB but I would like to hear that from someone official. I had one previous petition MORE than 2 years ago. If I read that right I don't think I need the wavier. Right?

I think a "marraige broker" is a nicer way of saying "mail order bride service". Also stuff like match.com but geared exclusively international relationships or international "sex tours". I have seen many of these sites, whether its just as small as a simple "meet" service with profiles or as elaborate as what seemed like these women were all photoghraphed at a hotel just to get an American man constitues a marriage broker.

(I have nothing against anybody trying to get here in anyway, I don't hate, I congratulate)

Asia: East and PacificLogistics: How did you arrange a flight for your honey when it was time?
My wife's ticket is on advance confirmed reservation. When her visa is approved we will pay for the ticket. I scheduled the day of leaving with a little cushion just in case something happens to her passport on the way back from Manila.

We got our tickets on reservation separately. My travel agent near Chicago gets really good prices. My Wife is a travel agent in the Philippines so she got the hookup, so that her ticket is for the same flight. My agent can't get her tickets anyways.

Asia: East and PacificCFO Video

There have been several instances where a Filipino went to other countries to work (I think the labor force is now the Philippines number one export) and was treated like a slave. They are trying to educate their countrymen of what to do if something negative should happen while in a foreign country.

Yeah, but this guy is married to this woman and she watches a CFO movie and starts thinking he might be Ted Bundy. I would say the relationship is a bit shaky.

I understand. Claudeth told me about the video that night but it didn't change her mind! She had visions of shopping malls in her head! :D

Rest assured our relationship is strong and she trusts and loves me with all her heart as I do trust and love her.

But here are a couple of examples of besides the mental, physical and sexual abuse that has happened:

- After all the time the woman was waiting and being supported by her American husband, she gets there and discovers there is a court order for her to pay all of it back.

- One gal gets caught up in a porn scam in order to pay the bills.

I can't blame them for showing this video cause as we well know, not all of America are the sharpest tools in the shed. Some don't respect women as well as most of us do and see getting a bride from overseas a way to get the ultimate in a submissive mate. I know its wrong, but it does happen and it scares the living hell out of me knowing there are men who are like that. When my wife was telling me all about it I was in tears, I couldn't believe my ears.

But as for me, and after being intrigued in American TV shows like Cops and Judge Judy, this video is something that I really want to see.

Thank you on the input, I will still search for a bootleg of it. I have to see it, even if it hurts.

Wow I just got a phone call from my wife telling me how insecure she was after the CFO video in the Philippines. Wow!!! She did calm down, and things are going well as ever.

Thing is I want to know if anybody bootlegged this video from the CFO. And if someone did, can I get a copy?? I gots to see it for myself.

Asia: East and PacificSending money to the Philippines

I've already met my fiancee in person and started the K1 Visa process. I left her some money before coming back to the states but I need to send more to her.

I used Western Union Online once already sending about $100 USD as a test, which worked out perfectly. So then I go to send a $500 and they denied it. So I tried again with $100 USD, maybe the 500 was too high, but they continue to deny it. Very wierd. They want me to show up in person with the cash but Im trying to do this from the internet wity my Master credit/debit card.

So I do a google search and I find several companies/websites that offer similar services of transerfering money world wide, some specifically dealing with just Philippines.

Anyone else sending money to their fiancee by doing it online? If so which website/company would be recomended? For best, fastest, secure way of doing this? I want least hassel too but I understand the hassel is for fraud purposes.

Please advis, thanks.

Online credit card fruad is really running rampant right now so this is a cautious attempt to thwart it. I used to send money WU online, but I found out I was getting ripped. $27 for just a $200 and it kept going up from there. Then I went to what we have in our area, The Currency Exchange, and they send up to $1000 for $12. That was the actual reason I got off my lazy butt and started using the The Currency Exchange. And now that I think about it, I was too rejected for $600.

Also they should have the same deal for any grocery store with a Western Union.

Asia: East and PacificFlights from Manila to USA

I had read someone here on VJ stating that immigration will have a problem with a one-way ticket for a K-1 visa. Is it possible to just buy a one-way and save the money?

What's the alternative? Buying an open-ended round-trip ticket that is valid for how long? The rest of her life assuming the marriage works out the way it is supposed to? I'd think a one-way ticket is the only reasonable way to go since you may be buying the ticket within a few days of use. One-way to from Phil: $650, round-trip: $1800.

For one open ended tickets as far as I know with China Airlines is 6 months. I know because I had to extend the trip another two weeks after the month stay. Also a friend of mine had trouble with his passport and getting on the plane trying to get through the check in counter.

Two, I don't think the embassy cares either way, for they do suggest in the packet 4 that you DO NOT purchase your ticket before the interview in case they outright reject you or something like that.

Asia: East and PacificFlights from Manila to USA

Is it really necessary to buy roundtrip ticket for fiancee? Coz no way she can use it unless the two of us is going to take a vacation.

Uhm.......no.

I live in North Florida, so I use Northwest Airlines. For me, I earn enough sky miles that every fourth trip is free. Prices are good. I know for sure it is much cheaper in US dollars to buy a ticket from Manila to US, than from US to Manila. Doesn't make sense but it is.

The ticketing difference also depends on the time of year too. The peak season is opposite over there. So when its peak season for us here in the States, its dead season over there and vice versa.

Asia: East and PacificFlights from Manila to USA
I have been on Korea and China. So far I loved the service on China, although my rear end getting kissed all the time got old halfway through a 14 hour flight. My Filipino travel agent has veered me away from PAL because of the overpriciness and not as good service experience he has had. I heard from some filipino friends of mine JAL is a sweet airline too.

But now that my wife got her work permit, and was a travel agent in the Philippines, she is working for AirFrance, a part of Skyteam which gives us the options of NWA, Korean Airlines or Continental Airlines to get to the Philippines. Sorry PAL, no chance now you never joined Skyteam.

My agent however has been the least expensive among all that I have tried and he bends over backwards to take care of you. His name is John at Travel USA, 847-818-1856.

I was going to search for this but the server is having issues.

My wife just got her letter from the US Embassy in Manila stating that they have recieved the I-129 petition and for her to prepare everything.

Its been a month now, and we have heard nothing else. What is the typical time between this letter and the actual interview packet. She has called them and they keep telling her its in queue.

Please help!!! Its getting so close yet it feels like things are so far.... Thank you!!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresA little confused
I asked this of the Secretary of States office in Illinois the same question about the drivers license. This is what he required:

- Social Security Number (Meaning the letter from the office is good enough, not meaning exactly the SS card) ;)

- Proof of Address (Just have a relative from a family member mail your spouse a letter with his / her name as the addressee)

- Proof of Signature (Passport, credit card)

And after that is the driver's test!!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit of Support
I am getting ready to attend the interview with my wife in Manila. I have been having trouble understanding the I-134 & I-864.

For one I had no job for 6 months of 2004 and my income of that year fell below the 125% level. Since then I have been doing better then ever. Will that one year affect their decision? Or will they go based off my 2005 Returns?

Two, they say notarized. Do they require the seal on the documents, you know the one you can touch and feel on the paper, or is the ink stamp ok? The ink stamp that banks now use for example.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNotarized By A US Lawyer???
My wife just contacted the embassy in Manila and they stated to her that the I-134 has to be notarized by a lawyer.

Now I am confused for I thought I was just going to have it all notarized at a bank or Currency Exchange or something simple like that. I dont have much time to play with either.

Anybody who has been to the US Embassy have any experience with this??

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresArrrgh another I-134 question!!
Line 11 in the I-134 scares me a little bit. I really dont know what to answer on that line. Wouldnt it be obvious in a marraige that we would support each other, just like any other marraige?? I have also seen in example forms from this site it was left "n/a". Is that the proper way to fill it??

Also I am a quite concerned about the income level thing. I was out of a job for 6 months in 2004 and made less then poverty level. I made good on both 2003 and 2005. Will 2004's income mess me up??

Thx, but now I need to know what do I do under the CR-1 cirmcumstance. The I-130 is approved and I have to pay another $70 and then we go on with the CR-1 route.

Is the CR-1 an automatic employment authorization? Or do I have to still get her Authorization on top of everything?

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhen does it end?
Well everybody I am happy to announce that the interview at the embassy was great and everything was approved!!!! We are now in the United States and she is adjusting rather well. Thank you everybody for all the support and helping me out with all my questions. I did it all without a liar, I mean  lawyer!!!

Now that she has a K-3 visa, what do I do about getting her employed? She hates sitting at home doing nothing all day and she isnt too turned on to any of the Soaps on any channel.

Also her I-130 was apporved while we were in the Philippines and we got the letter and all when we got back. I need to know what the CR-1 requires in terms of employment and would it be a better route to just get the CR-1 taken care of then go get her a SSN?? I have noticed that the Employment authorization form only really pertaines to K-3 and no other marriage / fiance visa. :bonk:

I am so confused!! So far all I payed attention to is to get us back together, I never thought of the employment authorization thingie :crying:

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAh I have to write a letter, there is no form for it!!!

aussiewench,

flipcaneze will be chasing after the CR-1 in the USA - that will be the designation for his PR status.

His ambiguous writing - he didn't say either status or visa - covered his a$$ this time. But he may not be so lucky with his letter to the NVC.

Rodjana didn't bother with such a letter - just used the DS-whatever Designation of Address and Agent of Choice form to advise the NVC of the situation.

Yodrak

Anyways, I have been looking all over for a good form letter to tell the NVC that my wife is here and we will be chasing after the CR-1 in the USA so we dont have to travel back to the Philippines to take that interview.

To clarify........You will not be chasing after the CR-1 in the the US as the CR-1 is visa. You have already entered the US on the K-3 visa. What you will be doing is AOS in the US. CR-1 visa and AOS in the US are two seperate processes that both require an approved I-130. Keep that in mind when writing the letter so as not to confuse them :P

Sorry about my vagueness in this matter, I have been so busy and came down with a flu. In another words, my brains are fried

Anyways, let me start from the begining. My wife was granted a K-3 visa in the US embassy. The I-130 was approved by USCIS just before I got there in the Philippines to attend the interview with her. She is here now and everything and the trip went smoothly. She wants to start working (it gets boring all alone in the house) and now we need to get her AOS. I was told in order to do this, I have to write a letter to the NVC stating that she is now in the United States and we will be staying here for the AOS. Everything else is like cake from there.

I was hoping someone in our situation has been through this and has good ideas on what should be in the letter.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-3 question - Delivery of visa and Interview questions
I forgot!!!

As for the questions, they were all so simple, and it would depent on who is interviewing of course. Ours was a guy not more then 30 years old and I think he was impressed I was there with her, but of course I got interviewed as well. Things like why him? or Why her? We didnt have any letters or emails, I just showed him $2000 of phone cards and the VOIP bill and the VOIP (voice-over-internet-protocol, basically I hooked her up with an Illinois phone number in the Phillipines). Pictures didnt seem to be too important to him, he just glanced at them and put them away. I do I need to stress : Affidavit of support and W-2s, they need this all in order to do anything for you, dont look like an idiot and not bring these things, or try to get away without them, they are hardcore about it!!! I saw a couple of cases there when there was not that included, and some of them this was their 3rd or 4th interview!!!

Other then that, remember at the end Window 35 is for those who cried about doing their best and Window 36 is for those who goes home and you know what the prom queen!!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresK-3 question - Delivery of visa and Interview questions

Hello again. I can't tell you all how valuable all the forum information has been. What a lifesaver. My question if for those of you/or loved one who have recently experienced the interview in Manila for K-3. During the interview, what kinds of questions were asked? Also, when the visa is delivered by the courier, did your wife specifically have to be there to sign for it, or could any member of the household sign? And finally, is there anyone who can tell me their interview date, the date they were sent a text by DELBROS, and the actual date they received their visa in hand? Any information regarding this would be helpful. Thanks again! ~Scott

Our interview date was the 10th of March. Later that day we got a txt from Delbros ( Del Brothers?? who knows? ). Wednesday the 15th of March we got another txt stating that Delbros has the package in their hands. (Apparently Wednesdays after the interview is when the Visa is released from Embassy to Delbros) Then that Friday the 17th we finally got the visa and the Immigration package from a guy on a motorcycle at about 2pm. This gave us just enough time to run to the CFO and get the appropiate endorsements and stickers on her visa.

Now rememember it takes longer and longer in this order, and I cant rememeber the exact amount of days stated on the slip thingie : Metro Manila, Key Cities, then provinces. The longest was 7 - 10 days I think for the provincial areas and it was 5 - 7 days for the Key Cities (Cebu, Davao, ect) and like 2 - 3 days for Manila area. Dont quote me on this, I wanted to scan it and share with visajourney, but my wife threw it out.

Good luck to you!!!

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresAffidavit from Friends??

I was wondering if anyone would know what an affidavid should say when I present it to the Chicago interview. Something from friends and family that states that we are living together harmoniously. If someone knows what I am talking about, I would appreciate it, because I don't even think I know what I am talking about.

Thanks in advance

If you are living together harmoniously, there should be ample evidence without using affidavits from friends and family. In the absence of other substantial evidence, I doubt affidavits will carry much weight.

So for the AOS, what did you have to show and was it a hard interview?

joint bank account
health and dental insurance
letters from utilities showing both names on accounts
mail addressed to each of us at the same address
lots of photos of our outings/events/family since she got here
boarding passes/receipts/photos from our honeymoon

The interviewer didn't even look at most of it. It was very easy.

Wow, then I might?? have problems.

She hasn't gotten word for her Employment authorization so at this point she cant have a social security number so she can have a bank account and driver's license. Also I can't apply for insurance till November from my job. (Never applied before, temp companies are horribly expensive) But I managed to get my wife on the title of the car, and she has a Credit Card with her name on it, just not on the bill.)

The other stuff is not a problem.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhat takes longer a K1 or a K3??
Since you are married, to hell with the K-3, just wait prolly a month longer and get the CR-1 (or if you are married for more then 2 years, IR-1)

But the answer anyways to that, I would have to say the K-1 is much less of a pain when he/she gets to the USA, but they are starting to get harsh with the K-1 at the embassy and giving better service to K-3's, especialy in the Philippines. So the K-3 now is getting faster then the K-1 just to get him/her in the US.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMoney Issue

Since you will be dealing with the Embassy in Manila, you might want to do some more research in using a co sponsor as several on this forum are reporting that Manila Embassy does not accept co sponsors. While it does not propose a problem for me personally I don't think its right to change the rules we are playing by here in the States out at different embassies.

Yes-Very true. I personally waited in line for 2 hours at the Embassy in Manila just to ask the question "can I use a co-sponsor for a K-1 Visa" the answer- "NO" they will though allow a co-sponsor when filing for a K-3 Visa. Now I also read this on the board before going to the Philippines and that is why I double checked-just to make sure- this was in January but Gosh-I sure hope they arent turning down co sponsors for K-3's also now.If anyone knows forsure please let me know

Far as what I have heard is that Manila is having alot of problems with the K-1s thus they are getting alot stricter on K-1s (Domestic Abuse, US citizen abandoning immigrant fiance) This may be some evidence to prove how much harder it is now.

Other then that, once you get past everyone before the actual consul, as long as you make enough and don't dress like an idiot, you should be fine, that is if you are going to the interview (which also helps out too, shows how much you care)

I have all of the paperwork ready to go, but am concerned about the proper presentation (which I don't see info on this site). Do I need a cover letter? Should I put it in a binder, using plastic holders? Or staple it together? Thanks!

Well the ACCO top fasteners are what they use in government files. Cover letter is good too. I suggest having everything two hole ACCO binded up into a simple folder with 3-M "post it" flags to index the different forms. (I was surprised to see all the tabs still in the file during the AOS interview)

Ok, lessee, you have been waiting this long for the K-3...and you want to start all over to get a K-1, not to mention look really goofy in front of the consular at the K-1 interview? :bonk: I would rethink that....ALOT!!

I was just wondering I've been seeing a lot of K1 approvals.........Does it take longer to approve K3's than K1's??

:crying: :crying: I haven't even been waiting that long.......But its going to be a year now........I want my husband to see his baby!!!

Depends, what country are you talking about??

What I have heard about in the Philippines, and have seen at the Manila Embassy, that K-1s are being treated harshly over there.

As for K-3's its become less problematic, but when you get to the USA, things become a pain in the...ahem! uh neck.

I would suggest just waiting a little longer for the CR-1, or even better wait the full two years of marriage for the IR-1 (The IR-1 gets a 10 year greencard instead of the 2 year conditional greencard). After my experiences the CR-1 at least is what I hope we waited for.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresWhere K3 stands
Dont go for the K-3, it really sucks. It was a nice idea, but they made it such a pain in the neck.

My wife has been here since November and I needed to call an excorsist twice cause being home all alone while trying to work the extra overtime to support her, and she not being allowed to have a job has driven her to insanity.

The I-130 was approved already but we took the K-3 anyways. Arrrrghh!! We just wanted to be together as soon as possible!!

Oh yah, also she just got her EAD yesterday, and its temporary because we called and called and called, and its still in processing. 90 days only mind you!! Then right after we went to the Social Security office, and it will be 4 weeks to get the number. Most employers here are not prepared to enter anything but a SSN. So she is holding a useless piece of plastic.

K-3 is a crock!! Just wait for the I-130 to settle the dust, you will be alot happier!

I am looking for some cheap calling card/phone card which can also document which numbers are called into the overseas. Do you know about any?

Embassy people do want to see the phone records and the calling card that I use now does not save the overseas numbers. Calling from home phone to overseas are much more expensive than calling cards. I am wondering how you are dealing with this dilemma. Thank you.

I didnt show him phone history of the phone cards, I just yanked out about 150 phone cards out of a sack and he was impressed with that and then I pulled out the bills for the VOIP service I set up at her house.

Let me explain the VOIP thing. I had to get my wife a DSL line for about 50USD/month. The Voice-Over-Internet-Protocol(VOIP) costed me $25 a month (unlimited time). She had an Illinois phone # in the Philippines!!!! I could call her anytime with my cell phone or home phone and she can call me wherever I was at.

What you would have to do is set up service with a company such as www.lingo.com, www.vonage.com (I have Lingo) and bring the VOIP to your signifigant others home and hook it up to her Broadband service. And I do suggest getting a Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS) just in case your spouses country has a bad power grid such as the Phillipines. Simple as that, and on top of everything, Lingo will let your spouse call all of Canada, USA, and Western Europe (as so long as not a Cell phone) for no additional charge.

Im not getting payed to advertise, just thought I would help out.

And yah, while she was not home I used phone cards, you know the ones from the corner gas station.

Under a K visa or any type of CR-1 / IR-1 visa the Filipine Immigration is going to require that CFO certificate in order to leave the airport and to change your name on the passport to your husband's last name.

My wife still has to go and she has already been all over asia for years now and she will still need that for her departure with that and to change over her name.

Just for a fun fact : Strangly the USA sessions are in the morning and the rest of the world is in the afternoon.
