US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionVisa denial rumors
NOT CORRECT !!
My mother-inlaw applied for a visa two (2) weeks ago and it was approved, it all depends on the paper work and proof that you submit when applying.

US Citizenship General DiscussionN-400 EXPEDITE INFO . . .
Another exception is when you are offered a job with the Federal Government and U.S. citizenship is required, you'll have to prove to them that you 'got' the job.

US Citizenship General DiscussionPreparing for tomorrow's Citizenship appt @SFO
Wife is getting very nervous by the minute, all 100 questions have been memorized, reading and writing piece is fine, don't know how to explain to her that it is not that difficult and that she must be calm and take deep breaths. Will post her experience afterwards.

Wish us luck .....

US Citizenship General DiscussionSucess in San Francisco
The appointment was scheduled for 1:30 pm, we checked in 15 minutes before (as recommended in the interview letter) and she was given the gray envelope with the passport application form in it, she got called in around 1:40 pm - I stayed in the waiting area with our daughter - she came out an hour later with the Immigration Officer who introduced himself and asked me if I was her husband, then he asked for the name of our child and my ID, after I complied he said: "congratulations, your presence here helped expedite the case, you will be getting a letter in the mail soon". Later on I found out that I could have been with her during the interview (did not know that).
My wife was carrying the Naturalization Interview Results letter in which the officer had checked the following:
You passed the tests of English and U.S. history and government.
USCIS will send you a written decision about your application.
Congratulations! Your application has been recommended for approval. At this time it appears that you have established your eligibility for naturalization. If final approval is granted, you will be notified when and where to report for the Oath Ceremony.

She was asked six (6) questions:
- What do the stars on the flag mean?
- Who is the Vice President of the USA today?
- How many states are there in the Union?
- Who is the head of the Executive Branch of the U.S. Government?
- In what month do we vote for the President?
- What is the most important right granted to United States citizens?

She had read: "Who meets in the U.S. Capitol Building?" and write: "They are a happy family"

I think the interview also concentrated on our personal life as she was asked about my birth day, our home phone number, zip code, our marriage date, how did we meet, etc., questions that were asked when we went for our residency appointment, oh well, since there was nothing to hide she answered them correctly.
We are relieved that this "journey" is almost done, thank you very much for your support and for sharing your experiences along the way, it made the trip a whole lot less stressful, now we are on the look out for the Oath Ceremony letter which I believe will take place in the month of June.

US Citizenship General DiscussionSpouse at Citizenship Interview
My wife told me that her interviewer asked (almost at the end of the interview) "where is your husband?" and when she replied: "outside in the waiting area with our daughter", he kind of hinted that I could have been in the room with her during the interview by saying; " why didn't he come in?".
Go figure, I always thought you were not allowed to be in during the examination, my advice for those getting ready for the interview is to escort him/her all the way to the room and ask if it is ok to be present.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionI-751 Approved @CSC
The letter arrived yesterday (12/26/06) with the famous 10 year GC, one thing that I noticed is that in the new card they did not include her maidden name as in the temporary card. The 2 year card included her 1st name+middle name+maidden name+my last name.
When I sent all the documents with the I-751 form, the main bulk of them had her 1st, middle and my last name (bank statement, tax returns, car title, etc.) and the I-751 had the same info as the temporary card, now the new card don"t have her maidden name, go figure.
The countdown continues, 12 months until we file the N-400 .........
