I've been drinking a lot of water lately and tonight I found out that there's an all female gym here and it's only like $20/mo so I'm gonna be checking that out inshallah! They have a pool and everything and no men allowed on the property at all.... if one is there for something they put up signs and warn you.

Is it a Curves or something else? That sounds awesome. that also means you can wear something smaller in the pool... like capri leggings and a tank top or whatever to still cover the necessary parts. Also, if you wear a Tshirt or something it will create "drag" and work like a drag suit and make it harder to go through the water-- thus more exercise.

No, it's called PureFitness for Women. They have a rule that you have to wear spandex or lycra in the pool so I'm looking for something like some capris and a baggy top made from that material but I don't know how much luck I'll have with the top.
They have free babysitting and different types of classes like water aerobics and bellydancing (which I'm really excited about biggrin.gif)
My friend is gonna take me with her as a guest to try it out inshallah and then I'm going to try to negotiate with them about the down payment because she said it's like $200 down and $20 a month and I found a coupon online to either get a free month or $100 off the downpayment but I can't afford $100 down right now either so I'm going to see if they'll waive it completely if I give them my sad story lol blush.gif

If not, could you maybe talk them into installments? Like $10/month over 10 months? Sometimes people will go for that. Are you going for a baggy long-sleeve shirt or a baggy T-shirt? Either way I'd try the men's section if you want a constant supply... ls can be harder to come by at this time of year though. LOL I didn't picture you as the bellydancing kind! I had thought salafi with a dancing is haraam slant (the most conservative Muslimah board I belong to is totally private and more or less salafi, great girls!). smile.gif Now I have a new picture in my mind!

LOL well no one's perfect LOL we all have our vices huh? Dancing itself isn't haraam.
That's a good idea about the payment plan.... I'll deffinately ask them about that if they turn down my offer of letting them waive it completely for me lol
I was just thinking a baggy lycra or spandex t-shirt.... I thought maybe if I bought it several sizes too big it wouldn't be so tight and then some loose fitting lycra or spandex capris since I want to be able to swim in the pool.

I went to get a new bottle of metabolife and it looks different. It seems they may have revamped it again.... I hope not. When it first came out I used it and lost a LOT of weight! Then, after I had my daughter I tried it again but it didn't work the same so I used something from the doctor to lose the weight that time. Then a few months ago I found the old formula in the store again and I bought it but I didn't start taking it regularly until this month. It's been working fine but when I found it yesterday it's in a new bottle and called "ultra". They've got different formulas now and even have two different stages, one for losing and the other for maintaining. I hope this new kind works as well as the original. sad.gif

My husband has a friend who's a plastic surgeon but his practice is in Canda, not Libya. I've never asked but I always assumed it's because plastic surgery isn't as popular there as it in the west.... I could be wrong.

Did he go through the Cairo embassy?

See I think it depends on where you go but being prepared can't hurt for sure. I did all of that preparation but the CO could have given two hoots about it. Pretty much refused to look at any evidence and totally didn't look in our casefile to see that my husband had the photos in it.

No, he went through Tunis and I think you're correct in that the embassy you go through is another contributing factor in how quickly or slowly your case can be processed. I imagine Cairo to be much busier as there appears to be more people in Egypt filing petitions than those in Libya or Tunisia.

There are many factors at play in this process and it's impossible to predict the outcome of any case based on one factor alone, which is why all the factors have to be examined and addressed promptly and properly.

Of course the MAIN factor I thank for the ease of this process so far is God, without Whom nothing is possible.... hence the screen name heart.gif

and I really believe that being prepared by the people here is one of the contributing factors to our case being processed so smoothly so far (especially considering my husband is from a country with no US embassy, has been on the US's list of terrorist countries for like 30 years and only had sanctions lifted a couple of years ago! Middle East and North AfricaLET'S TALK ABOUT YOUR RED FLAGS
I met my husband online as well and I know several people who have met their spouses the exact same way. I have a happy marriage and everyone I know who's met the same way has as well. That doesn't mean it wasn't a red flag from an immigration standpoint! My husband got grilled about meeting me online and why he wasn't marrying someone from his own country during the interview. He took numerous chat records along with our phone records and letters we'd written during the time we were engaged just to prove that we have a real marriage and not a case of GC fraud.

I think when reading threads like this one has to keep in mind that others are not necessarily saying the way you met your SO should be a red flag to you but it is a red flag that we, who have been through this process already, have noticed from immigration.

In most cases (not all and I don't deny that there aren't some poo-slingers and troublemakers here who don't just like to cause problems) but most of the time we're just trying to advise newbies of the best ways to prepare themselves for the worst possible situation so they don't get a denial and then have to spend a lot of time and money fighting it. rose.gif

Hey everybody, hope you are well!! I wanted to know some information. Somebody told me that muslims do not have pictures of their children on the walls in their home and are not allowed to have angels (like figureines) in the home. Is this correct and if so is there anywhere that I can read this information? I have tried to find it but maybe I am not looking in the correct place.

Extremely religious Muslims do not have photos at all in their homes....demons live in them they claim. Any statues are forbidden in your home...because people back in the days would worship statues...hope that makes sense.

Correction, religious muslims do not have pictures or statues on display in their homes for religious reasons..... extremely supersticious muslims may believe it's because demons live in them star_smile.gif

This conversation about what your husbands can do to make themselves more modest/less attractive is making me laugh.

The reason is women are so different regarding how we find the opposite sex to be attractive. Some women may love a beard. Men will oogle women in a totally different way. For me, I don't like it when my husband shaves his goatee, but others say he looks much better without it.

I don't think the hijab rule could really apply to a man, for them I think its all about actions.

In Islam, the hijab rule applies to both. They have to cover themselves from, at the very least, navel to knees. The beard is also a must (some don't agree... depends on your school of thought I guess).
They also have to lower their gaze and not mix unnecessarily with non related women as a part of modesty.

IMHO, the fact that some women find beards attractive is not a reason for men not to wear them.... some men find women in hijab attractive.... there are veil-fetish-perverts all over the web! mad.gif but that doesn't mean women shouldn't wear it. (eta: the mad face is for the perverts not you lol)

You're right though and this ticks me off about a lot of men.... you'll see women covered up head to toe at the store and her husband wearing shorts and tight tank tops! That really gets my goat!
My hubby doesn't wear shorts outside, even though most of his shorts come below his knee anyway. When I asked him why he doesn't wear the long shorts outside he said because it isn't fair to me when I'm all covered up and he's in shorts. He also wouldn't be caught dead outside or in front of anyone other me with no shirt or in a shirt with no sleeves. He also doesn't wear short shirts anymore because I gets jealous innocent.gif
He likes to wear his traditional clothes and I like when he does but he's shy to wear it in public here unless we're going to the masjid. I guess he's scared the American men will tease him about wearing a dress....
He also leaves his beard and doesn't shave.

On the other hand i do wear makeup at home; dress nice n im always looking my best biggrin.gif

Once again I'm a bit confused. So you're not supposed to look pretty as a women when you go out in public? I guess I'm reverse. I don't wear make-up at home because I don't see the need and I wear make-up in public so I don't scare the neighbors.

No, the point of modesty in dress is not to look beautiful for non-related men.

What I really want to know is if there is a place I can order those sleeves online.

I have some, but they are white and I wear them 5 days a week to work and they are slowly turning a greyish color and it's been almost 1 yr. I'm about to switch jobs so maby I could get another 2 white ones and some colored for when I have to wear office clothes and business suites (wearing a chef's uniform right now)

U can prolly find'em cheaper than I got mine. Mine were 5 dollars for 2 pair. There's a shop about what...10 or 15 minutes from my place and I'm all sortsa happy to have been led to it via VP. Thanks

I'm sure u can gettem online but can't remember where exactly. Mine go up to the elbows, not all the way up the arm.

If she gave them to you for 2/$5 that's really a pretty awesome price and you're not likely to find them any cheaper on the internet unless you can find someone selling them used or in lots or something.
This Ebay store has them Crescent City Egypt and you can find them on pretty much any Islamic clothing website under accessories inshallah.
If they're too expensive with shipping at those sites maybe Amal or I could pick them up for the price she got them for here and mail them to you inshallah.

Waterproof makeup smile.gif I actually love some of the islamic clothing styles. I bought so many tops and dresses when I was in Egypt. I must say that's the one thing I like about Egypt. You can go out shopping and not have to worry about seeing everyones crack hanging out of their pants or the breasts about to pop out of their shirts. I must say that Americans need to learn about modesty.

Do they sell waterproof under eye concealer and blush?

I tend to sweat and have extra oil under my eyes. I've been using a waterprrof undereye concealer by Mayelline that I love! For blush I use Blushsense. That stays on too! I also use an eyeliner by Lancome that stays on from the time I put it on, till I take it off. I can't even wash that off, I have to use eye makeup remover. I supposed when I put my make-up on, I want it to stay on.

So I've been told that if you are wearing socks and hijab and had made wudu before putting them on, you don't have to take them off again to make wudu and those parts are still clean.... so does the same apply to the waterproof makeup?

What I'm understanding by "waterproof makeup" is that it doesn't wash off with water but it doesn't actually block the water from getting to the skin, is that correct? I don't understand how that would affect your wudu unless it prevents the water from reaching the skin/area like nail polish does but I could be wrong. You'd still have to wash your face but shouldn't have to remove it completely. Kohl is pretty water prood and stays on thru many washings and it's not haraam for women to wear that.

I've always been the type to wear makeup and nail polish and do my hair up and stuff and that hasn't really changed since embracing Islam.... I still like all that stuff. I'm still a woman after all and I like to fix myself up for my hubby star_smile.gif
I don't wear nail polish anymore since you can't remove it easily to make wudu but I do stain my nails with henna, keep my hair colored, wear makeup and so on but I have toned down the makeup a lot. I wear kohl, eyeshadow and powder regularly unless it's hot and I'll wear lipstick around the house but I'll wipe it off if I'm going out. I wear a light shade of eyeshadow and apply a thin layer of kohl so it's not too obvious if I happen to go out. The kohl stays with you thru wudu but I have to reapply the powder. I'll also wear perfume around the house but again, not if I'm going out.

Muslim women are allowed to decorate themselves with nice clothes, makeup, perfume, henna (not permanent tattoos) and make their hair look attractive for their husbands and around other close male relatives..... we're just not allowed to show that beauty to others outside of that little circle.

You never know which Ramadan will be your last. I pray Allah makes Ramadan a mercy and a blessing for all of us, ameen!!

I also love going to the masjid and breaking my fast each night with the other muslims who have also been fasting all day. There's just something about breaking fast with the community that's indescribable. I hope they do that here.....

I've been adding a recitation of the entire Quran to my Blackberry so I can listen to it as I work and fast during Ramadan.

I have it on my mp3 player and love it! I have the cassette thingy in my car so I can plug it into the cassette player and listen to it when I'm driving or riding in the van. I've got the entire Quran with English translation, the last juz without translation with a beautiful recitation that I love and almost all of the last juz with a teacher reciting and his students reciting behind him for my kids to listen to.
I didn't put it on my blackberry because I carry my phone with me in my purse all the time and didn't want to carry it into the bathroom or something with the Quran on it blush.gif

Invest in a siwak (aka miswak) and rinse your mouth periodically throughout the day.

OK, I looked it up again-- you are correct. I was thinking a physical son. It's not the first time someone is called a son of G-d. I am surprised I missed it the first time-- but it happens smile.gif It's actually "of" but it's "of" for the entirety of the geneology listed, which is a geneology of both spirit and physicality.

i saw your siggy video. You like Ahmed Deedat?

I'm not here to try to interpret what your book means when it says what it says. I just says what it says biggrin.gif
God has no physical offspring smile.gif
Yes, I like him a lil bit smile.gif

Muslims say Allah for everything. They even say "wallah" (I swear by Allah) when they aer lying!:)

We don't believe it's haraam to remember God/Allah by calling on Him with any of His names any time of the day.
As far as the second part.... it's haraam to swear by Allah if you're lying.... but there are dishonest christians, jews and others who will do the same thing... it's not just muslims who aren't perfect smile.gif

Oh jeez... there's alot in the quran I can pull 1 sura out and make it sound like something else. IF you must post something to make a point you must put the whole supporting scripture or it will definitely be taken out of context. I'm not saying I'd enjoy to read long bible/quran scriptures on here but it does offend someone of that religion to post something that's not true. wacko.gif I really hope it doesn't turn into part 10 of christianity vs islam. headbonk.gif

I was told the bible doesn't say Adam is the son of God.... I just posted the verse that does say that. I don't make this stuff up biggrin.gif

It's not an "Arab" practice to name children "so and so, son of so and so".... It's in the bible in Hebrew and it's been done this way from the beginning of time (well I guess not Adam and Eve since they didn't have parents but I believe Adam is referred to as the son of God in the bible even).
The idea of changing your name when you marry has everything to do with which man the woman "belongs to" and it's as if ownership transfers from one man to another. In Islam, however, it has nothing to do with ownership and everything to do with lineage.
Of course, you are free to disagree as you like and this topic has been discussed to death on here over the years smile.gif No one is ever going to agree on this board about anything that has to do with anything and I really don't know why we bother laughing.gif

He's not referred to as son of anyone (ben), definately not son of G-d smile.gif But yes, people are ben or bat (insert father's name here) in the Bible.

That is the correct differentiation too for name changing. I have seen it pronounced haram or halal depending on who is speaking-- if it's said to be halal the usual logic I have seen is that because in places where a woman does change her name, no one is confused about her lineage-- we account for it.

Yes he is.
