We got an e-mail and a text yesterday that they had my husband's application. I checked online at the bank today and the check for the application cleard 3/29 and for the biometrics 3/30.

Did anyone else's e-mail say that they were sending it to National? That seems a little strange to mail it to Arizona to have it sent to Nebraska to have it sent back to Califormia for his interview.

If your spouse is a government worker stationed abroad you might be able to actually file for citizenship early!! There are a couple of threads on expedited filing that might be helpful. The time abroad has to be at least a year more than either your filing date or your interview date I can't remember, but I know I searched and found some good info before. The rules are the same for Military spouses and certain US government employees.

My husband went on his InfoPass today to get his Passport stamped. He is now on his way to the DMV in the same city as the InfoPass appointment, because he doesn't want to wait anylonger to renew his license adn California will not renew it without the stamp or the green card.

I can't say for sure what they will do, but I was a student with no income when I met my fiance, so the 2005 tax forms I submitted only showed about $4,000 and 2006 wasn't over when we had to submit the forms with our packet 3. I just submitted a letter from my employer stating how long I had worked for them (6 years because I was on a leave for school) and how much my annual salary was, recent pay stubs to prove what my current income was, and a letter from me explaining why the income was so low the previous year. When we had to adjust status in 2007 we had my tax forms for 2006 so we had no problems.

I don't think I would have your parents co-sponser unless they tell you you don't make enough. Good luck.

If you are married you can not file "single"!!! You can file "married and filing separately", which might work in your case. You would not need to refile when she got here. I do not think she would need to file anything as she is not in the country and not a resident. I'd check with an accountant or at least read up a little on the IRS website. It has a lot of info.

It doesn't get any easier:-( I know in Albania the web cam idea doesn't work to well because most of them have to go to an internat cafe. We talked all the time. I had $1,000 a month phone bills when we were apart. We have a cheaper phone service now, $0.16/min for a cell phone to Albania and before that I used a calling card at $0.27/min. Let me know if you need the info. Most of the women I know say their men are in worse shape emotionally while they wait to come over. Their sadness makes us go crazy to get them here as quick as possible.

Just hold on and try to think of the little things that can make you smile. I visited him twice in the 5 months we were apart, so I know how tempting the plane ticket is. I'd say hold out as long as you can and hope you have an understanding boss that will let you take a little time to go visit in 3-6 months.

Ok,

I met my fiance in Milano, Italy and he is from Albania. We are going through the Embassy in Albania as he was undocumented in Italy. All the directions come in Albanian from the Embassy and most of the forms are in English and Albanian so he should have no problems. It takes about a month for him to get packet three after the embassy receives his documents from NVC and about two months after you submit packet three for your appointment date. Before he leaves Italy he should get his Italian Police Certificate and if he every lived in Greece have him go to the Greek embassy when he gets to Albania and order it right away as it takes 1 -2 months to be delivered from the Greek Embassy to the American Embassy (they won't give it to your fiance).

We have our interview November 30 if the Greek police certificate arrives in time, otherwise they will cancel and reschedule. I'll let you know how that goes so you can prep.

Oh, and my fiance only speaks a little English too, but he is picking it up very fast.

I agree. You have four months from when your application is approved in the US for the embassy to issue the visa. If they do not issue it in that time, they can extend your four months. Once you have the visa you have up to 6 months to use it to come into the United States and once here 90 days to get married. Don't worry.

My husband was illegal in Italy and had been deported from Greece and it never even came up in the interview even though we wrote about it on the application. The US does not care if they have been illegal in another country as long as they are not illegal in the USA. More than likely the US embassy in the UK won't see him and he will have to go home to Albania, but it won't hurt to ask. Also, when you file the docs they send the info to the address where he lives even if you ask it to be sent to his home country so you'll want to supply an Albanian address or you will have to have the embassy transfer the docs.

My understanding is that they only send it to the country where you reside. My fiance lived in Italy, but had no documents so we needed the documents to go to Albania and wrote that in our application and they still sent it to Italy. I tried to change his address to one in Albania once his documanets got to NVC, but they had it for only a week and sent it on before they processed his address change. Ultimately we had to have the documents transfered from Italy to Albania.

So the short answer is if he put a UK address it will go to the UK.

To get the Greek police report you can just apply at the Greek Embassy in Albania. I think it was 30 euro and takes about a month. They sent ours directly to the American Embassy.

I inquired recently at the Greek embassy in America and they will order it for free with a letter from the person requesting it stating why they want it and a photo copy of their passport. He said it normally takes abouit a month.

You do not need to wait to apply. You just have to prove that you currently make the required amount of money, not that you have made it for three year. If you currently make the required amount, which you would at $10/hour full time for two people, there is no reason to wait unless you need to save up to pay for the application.

My husband was in Italy illegally for almost two years. He had snuck in, so there was no stamp in his passport. We showed pictures of us together in Italy and he went to the Albanian Embassy there to renew his passport and I just submitted that letter with a date on it to show that he was in Italy as the same time as me. The hardest thing will be to get the police report, but as he entered legally, I would think you could request one without much problem. Don't mention his over stay and just ask for the police report. Lots of people here have gone through the same thing and the US only cares if you have broken US immigration law, not another countries. Whatever you do don't lie, because if you get caught there is no way they will let him in.

Austria also does not require a transit VISA, but the UK does, so make sure his flight does not go through there. It is possible to go Tirana, Munich, USA (all the way to San Francisco if need be). That would only be one stop for him to deal with.

Make sure he does not try and leave the transit area. My fiance called in a panic that they were going to send him back to Albania and I was on the phone with customs officials in Frankfurt when we realized the problem was he was following everybody out through customs.

My husband sent money home when he could from Italy, so I knew going into it that we would have to help out. His family is fairly poor and their only income is off the farm. I paid for our Albanian wedding, but they kept the cash gifts (Traditionally they would have paid, so it would have worked out as about a wash for them). I think they got close to $2,000. When we go to visit we leave $500-$700. My husband decided not to go this summer and his Dad said he had enough left to tie them over until Christmas when he comes. The surprise has been the other relatives who think now that he is in America he should have money to loan them. The fact he hasn't gotten a job and they know it has put most of them off, but I am sure once he gets a job they will start in again. We've also sent a little to his sister and left her $100 or so when we go. It will work out to be providing about $200/month and now that the exchange rate is so bad we might have to kick it up a little.

My husband already spoke three languages and picked up English quick. Within a few months he could carry on a simple conversation. He has been taking ESL classes at the local Junior College. That has really helped with his grammer and spelling. It is a non-credit class so there is no homework. I am sure he wouldn't do it if there was any.

He has been here 1 1/2 years and still has no job!!! He has met a few other immigrants in his ESL class and finally this last month started working security on Saturday nights for his friend's dad. There are no other Albanians in CA. The 2000 census put the total population in CA at around 4,000 and we can't find any in our town.

The most help he has been was this last week. We bought a house and he has been cleaning it and moved all our stuff over while I was at work.

I can't even imagine living in Albania. I have visited three times for a week each and this last time I couldn't wait to get back to central heating. Some day we might buy a vacation property on the coast, but I'd like to wait until they have reliable electricity to spend any time in the summer there. He has gone back twice since he has been here. He was planning on going in August to visit, but the tickets are so expensive that time of year. He hit me up the other day to see if he didn't go back in August if we could do a week beach vacation here instead. He always complains of missing home, but then he said his month visit last August was too long and this year he might not even go. I can't figure him out at all:-)

When I went to visit Albania the first time, my husband (then Fiance) had been living with his parents for about 2 months while he waited for his interview. One day when it was just the two of us at the house I asked for some cake. He jumped up to get it for me (This was before our Albanian ceremony so he was still on his best behavior) and then he paused and looked at all the kitchen cupboards. He had no idea where the plates were!!!! This is the house he had spent his childhood in and where he had lived for 2 months without a job, so he was there everyday, but had no idea which cupboard plates were stored in.

I've seen his male cousin almost drop a glass when his sisters didn't get there quick enough with the tray to collect it and I've seen daughter-n-laws cook and serve a whole meal only to leave the room when we all ate.

We have a long and interesting fight ahead of us girls:-)
