If its not made with Jameed, its not mansaf no0pb.gif And I've never even used half of those ingrediants in a authentic mansaf recipe. The un-authentic version is made with yogurt.

An interesting tidbit about mansaf, if you make it with chicken for guests its considered an insult. Chicken is only used if you are making it at home (my favorite way), otherwise you have to use lamb as the utmost sign of respect for your guests. Silly isn't it?

I use to like Mansaf a lot, but now when i think about it it makes me feel ill. You know after my husband tried to make it and it made me sick. laughing.gif Anyways chicken for family and lamb for guests, but if you live here and lamb is not at your disposal or you don't like the taste I would make it with chicken. "I think" the reason i got sick was because my husband use the Jameed that was already in a liquid form when we bought it. I am pretty sure we got it from Dayna's Market.

I am going to try this recipe out. I seen it on Everyday Italian and it looked good. I am just not sure about the Anchovies

Posted Image

1 cup balsamic vinegar
1 cup pitted green and black olives, halved
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley leaves
3 anchovy fillets, drained and chopped
2 tablespoons capers, rinsed and drained
1 garlic clove, thinly sliced
8 fresh basil leaves, shredded
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
6 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
1 pound vine-ripened tomatoes (about 3 tomatoes)

Cook the balsamic vinegar in a small saucepan over low heat until thick, syrupy, and measuring 1/4 cup, about 20 minutes. Set aside to cool.
Combine the olives, parsley, anchovies, capers, garlic, basil, pepper, and olive oil in a small bowl and toss to combine.

To serve, slice the tomatoes into 1/4-inch thick rounds and place, slightly overlapping, on a serving plate. Spoon the olive and parsley mixture over the tomatoes. Drizzle the reduced balsamic over the salad and serve.

Has anyone here made biscotti cookies? I know its not quite an arab treat but I had one from the coffee shop at Nordstroms and it was the best. I would just go get some more of theirs, but its in a big mall and I'd have to park far away and its on the 2nd floor....I am looking for a tested, proven wonderful biscotti recipe. I did an online search and there are so many- I want one that I know is wonderful. theres a lot of plain-to-sucky biscotti out there and I want good stuff. Anybody?

Also, what recipie forum are you all talking about? You created a searchable middle eastern recipie thing? I must have missed this.

I need a magloobeh recipe preferably with chicken and califlower, but only for a few people I don't want to have leftover for days. Me and the hubby attempted it before but it just didn't turn out right.

Where can I get Nabulsi sweet cheese from JP? What does it look like?

In Algeria I'm not sure. But when you get back home you should be able to find it in the arabic stores. It's the same as that white arabic cheese with the black seeds except its unsalted and no seeds. It's not really sweet but they call it sweet bcz its unsalted.

I tried to google it for an image, but I couldn't find one. It's called Nabulsi because it's made in Nablus and its the cheese of choice that Jordanians and Palistinians use when making it. It gets you the best results as well. :star:

haha how weird. My husband bought this cheese and I was thinking I thought it said Nablus on it so i looked and it does and it has little black seeds in it. I guess he wants kanafa

Dont use that cheese! Thats the salted version of it for eating, they have one that has no seeds and no salt, thats the one you want. Nabulsi sweet cheese.

what will happen if i used it? Payback time for the mansaf

oh i should have posted in the other recipe site too, but bamia can be vegatarian too just omit the meat.
I never ate okra before, but my husband made it and it was delicious and simple and didn't take very long to make. So for those of you who don't have much time to spend in the kitchen like me it's a good hearty quick recipe. :)

Bamia-Okra Stew with Meat

1 lb stew meat (lamb or beef) can use Hamburger we do
1 pound frozen okra
16 oz canned crushed tomatoes
4 oz. canned tomato puree
1 medium onion, chopped
2 cloves garlic, crushed
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon coriander
1/8 teaspoon allspice
8 cups water
salt and pepper to taste
2 tablespoons olive oil

In a large saucepan, brown meat with olive oil. Add onions and garlic.

Add crushed tomatoes, stirring well with meat, garlic and onion. Add cumin, coriander, salt and pepper, and allspice. Add water and tomato puree.

Stir and combine well.

Add okra and bring to a boil.

Reduce heat to low and simmer for 2 hours, or until meat is tender and done.

The sauce should thicken as it cooks. If it does not, add 1/2 cup all purpose flour.

Serve bamia with white rice

There are a lot of variations of bamia so whatever works for you, but this is just one :)

kiya, i forgot to tell you to add me to the list, but when i got my yallah middle east thread pinned all i did was email the admin and asked him to pin my thread and close my old yalla middle east thread.

Did the admin say you need a lot of people to support you before they pinned it? This thread of yours should already be pinned in the middle east section since it has to do with people going thru the ME/NA, but as for the waivers forum i don't know.

Good Luck (F)

I agree with Jenn! She could have said it in a nicer way it's not like we all know how to get something pinned on VJ. You can email the admin and ask if you can have it pinned here and in the waivers section.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA small error with I-129F Form
Well, I thought that as well but I already have her birth certificate included on there. What further evidence could I possibly provide? The only thing I *could* do is get the form back and correct it. I hope that's not the case though and that they just overlook it. I've seen people with bigger mistakes get overlooked.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA small error with I-129F Form
Figured out how to do the timeline...not that mine is very long thus far.

Still, I've never been able to find an answer from anyone about this problem. It's really caused some turmoil with my fiance for making that mistake. It seems like I can't get through to the USCIS about correcting it, so I'll just wait and see what happens.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresA small error with I-129F Form
Hello, I am writing because I am rather confused about what I should do about a small error I caught on my I-129F. I received the NOA1 on August 13th and haven't yet received the NOA2. I actually went through a "do it yourself" agency called Filipina Fiancee Visa but even they didn't catch an error this small. The mistake is that the beneficiary's place of birth on the form and also on the G-325 form does not match what's on the birth cerficiate. I'm wondering if my fiancee should just inform the consulate of this error at the interview? Small mistake that I could kick myself for, but hopefully it doesn't cause any problems.

Also, does anyone know how to post their own timeline on this site?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWhy did fees go so high this year?
My best guess is that the governement wants far less people immigrating into the United States, hence skyrocketing prices. That, combined with greed and carelessness.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Proceduresk-1 visa still on process
Her timeline is the same is mine, that's cuz we're engaged wink.gif

Well, we received our NOA2 recently. But the USCIS did not notice anything about the wrong Place of Birth on the I-129F. I'm wondering if it would be better to not bring it up at the interview...or at what point would it be good to inform them of this error?

The problem is, we're not totally sure that there was a mistake or not. Her Place of Birth is Baybay, Leyte...but I *might* have put Palo, Leyte on there. I wish I had a backup copy of the I-129F to see what I put on there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresI have a cousin who married a foreigner
I have a cousin who before she got married shared the same last name as me. She went to a missionary trip to the Philippines and met her man there and eventually they filed a K-1 Visa and got married when he got here. Do you think the Embassy would actually look to see if you have any relatives that petitioned K-1 visas? Thing is, I'm not even close to her side of the family and have absolutely nothing to do with her...and met my fiancee totally on my own accord. I know it probably looks bad if you have another relative that petitioned a K-1 visa and you are getting one petitioned for yourself.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 visas becoming easier for the Philippines?
I wonder if the source your lawyer got this from is credible. I hope it's true though. They *should* be approving them, you do pay a lot of money for a visa and to not receive something you payed for is absurd. You *actually* pay for the visa itself, so you'd think they'd refund that money to you if they refused the visa. It would be like going to college for 4 years and paying all that money, and then at graduation them refusing you your degree.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDivorce after 3 years marriage, found love again; questions

I have a few questions I cannot seem to find the answers to, maybe someone can help. I sponsored my ex-wife on a fiance visa in 2009 and we married in 2010, and were married 3 years, but due to incompatibilities, we separated and pending a divorce. The problem is, I have a girlfriend from a different country now, we fell in love , and would it be possible to petition her on a K-1 Visa, or have I burned my immigration-sponsorship bridge? :/
What should I do now, that i want to marry her, and have her be with me?

Middle East and North AfricaHow many of you saw your significant other online before flying across the country to meet in person?
Well Azzeddine and I chatted online with webcam from 12/2007 thur 01/2009 before I went to see him .... We were very respectful and kept our relationship pure ... We kept our first visit open with NO exspectations feeling we -will see if the chemistry was there or just a good friendship >>lol well we know where this went ....2+ yrs married now...../

I think it would have been scary to visit someone with out knowing whom ezctly you were visually seeing... photos can be altered or fake...

You were extremely lucky taking a hugh risk like that .. Congrats it worked in your favor....
I have heard horror stories on both sides....

Middle East and North Africainterview proofs-help-

Hello evryone.. wish that all of you are havin a peacful day :)
Well..first i want to ask is..what are proofs that will help me to show that my marriage is real durin the interview to get the visa.?
and im using Yahoo and Facebook to talk to my wife.. but should i print ALL the conversations while pareparin to the interview.? is ALot will be books :P..
wish i can find answers :D and thank you very much

you can print several days per month over the entire time of relationship... you can avoid certain issues of your relationship, not everything is their business....
you also need photos..... lots of photos... emails, letters, birthday cards, etc.....
if you have put anything in each othesr names that is good proof too....

good luck...

Middle East and North AfricaFiling a k1 after 3 months

I appreciate your pieces of advice which are really helpful to a new rider of this journey. Being raised in a conservative family doesn't allow the person to date, this is the reason why most Moroccan men tend to marry which might look prompt and out of the ordinary in the eyes of the officials. Basically, it is a cultural difference misunderstanding which apparently affects the whole process. Consequently, this impact lots of couples emotionally. There is not a huge difference of age like I mentioned earlier but they might consider it a red flag, it is nothing but 5 years difference, but who knows!!

Just be prepared to explain this in your interview.. There are Moroccans in the Consulte however you may not get one of them and they play "DUH" and want to see if you will be bringing this up. Getting both families involved in the process will help you.... letters, cards, online conversations,on screen photos,,,, etc..
Wish you both luck and prayers...
