IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresA few...or several...questions about evidence

Sorry for so many questions, but I'm gearing up to get the package sent off this week so there's a million things running through my head (I'm a perfectionist!!) as to how to actually put it all together and keep it all together, what to include or not include, and in what order. Any tips would be absolutely fabulous!! :D

As far as evidence goes, I have printed off about 75 pages of emails and chats from the past 3 years. And that was taking maybe three or four email messages per month, as well as some chats. I have also gathered all my phone records as well. But my cell phone bills are totaling around 175 pages. My question is, should I include all of them? Or maybe every other month? Should I just copy the pages where it shows the details of calls?? That would take away around 60 pages if I did that....What is the rule of thumb between sending enough without completely overwhelming them as opposed to just sending everything so that you can show complete evidence???

For plane tickets, can I just make copies of my online receipts/itineraries? Or should I make copies of my boarding passes as well??

For pictures, I don't have that many, maybe 10. Do I just stick them in with all the other evidence? Or should I like glue them to a piece of paper or print on 8.5x11 photo paper so I can give an explanation of each one?

Also, should I include a letter of how we met, got married, etc.? Is that necessary??

Is there any other evidence I'm forgetting that is pretty standard/important to send??

Thanks in advance!!!!!

Hi, and welcome.
This is what I sent: 6 color photos at different events together, copies of my boarding passes (2 visits to U.S), about 10 printed emails, and about the same in facebook messages. My wife sent me one months telephone bill and that was it as proof. It may be different depending on the country, I am not sure. Don't overdo the paperwork as I was told they would only skim through it.
Hope this helps and good luck.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresVaccinations for Medical

My husband is 41 yrs of age and will be going for his medical in a month or two ( I hope )
I would like to make sure my information is correct before he goes.
He has had a dose of the MMR as a child but has no record of it since it was lost at his GP's office. The GP did state that he would write a letter stating that the vaccination was given to him as a child, would the letter safice or would he need to get the vaccine?
Also besides the MMR is the Td/Tdap the only other vaccine he needs for his age group?
Please correct me if I am wrong.
Medical will be done at Knights Bridge in London.

Thank you!!

Hi,
I had the vaccinations as stated on the list, all of them. I did not have proof so I though I would have them done. I was 45 when I had my medical. I went through London and I had no trouble. I would suggest to your husband to have them done to be on the safe side. Just my opinion though.
Good Luck

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresCorrect way to send photos?

Hello VJ,

Searched the forums but didn't find an answer as to the proper way to send photos as evidence of a bona-fide marriage. Do you scan photos or send originals? Also how did you organize and annotate your pictures?

Thanks in advance for clearing this up!

All our wedding photos were on discs of flash drives, all we did was print some off onto normal white paper and they were accepted, don't bother printing onto photo paper or sending originals in, just scan them. You should be fine.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresDS-156
Hi all, I am new here and need a quick question answering if possible. My fiancee is an USC and I am a UKC. We have just started the fiance visa process and I have sent off everything for the I-129F application. But I have looked at your example form DS-156, where it says that proof of engagement is required. What prrof is needed? as the only proof we have is facebook posts to state we are engaged. I visited about 5 weeks ago and had to come back for work. We got on that well that we decided to get engaged, but could not afford a ring yet. We posted on facebook and that is the only proof we have. What could we do to get more proof about our engagement. I know the DS-156 form is not needed at the moment as we have just filled in the I-129F application but I just want to make sure I have everything when I need it.
Thanks in anticipation

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSerious question relating to moving to U.S

Dave -

Why not "read ahead" and learn a bit about the process for staying in the US after you have entered it?

I'm not suggesting you dive in and try to learn every next step. But I'd suggest you and your fiancee both take a look at the forms and fees required after your arrival.

Knowledge is power in this process. Getting here is only half the journey. There's more work to be done after you get here so you can legally work and reside permanently in the US. Knowing what those steps are helps ease the mind.

Hi Rebecca Jo
Thanks for the advice. We read up on everything needed before we sent our paperwork off to California, with many people on here helping along the way. So far we have waited just 4 months and heard nothing, which we both think is a good thing. We think that all the paperwork must be in order or they may have been in touch by now. As we both work long hours, it's so hard to keep a check on here, but we will closer to the time. I have even checked rail time tables for the travelling to London for my medical and interview. I am a well organised person, so once I start to look into things I check every detail lol.
Thanks
Dave :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSerious question relating to moving to U.S

Some reasons you could be turned away:

Your luggage is packed full of illegal drugs when you enter on your K1 and they discover them. :o

You don't get married to your fiance within 90 days. :ranting:<---your fiance

Your relationship is totally fake and they find out.

They ask for something you left out of your greencard application (RFE) and you ignore their request. :bonk:
Without what they need to approve, they have to deny you.

If you think you're going to be okay with the above, then it should all be fine.

Thanks for the replies :)
My mind is at ease. I just wasn't sure about the process after I move, of course I have to wait to be approved from London first.
Our forms were sent in September so we expect to hear something in mid to end of February, and we both cannot wait.
Thanks again

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSerious question relating to moving to U.S
Hi all, not had much time to visit lately due to work. But I was wondering if its possible to be turned away from the U.S after going through most of the paperwork and process. My fiancee lives in Denver and I have visited on 2 occassions, proposing on Boxing day 2010. We sent the first of many forms in September and expect a reply in February if the timeline is correct. I know that I still need the medical and interview in London too later. What happens if I am approved from London, move to Denver and after one of the interviews or process parts I am rejected for some reason. I don't want to go through the process again. I am worrying too much? I have no illness or criminal record, I just need the truth about the move and need to make sure it runs smoothly.
I hope not.
Many Thanks in anticipation

Hi again,
I am at the moment going through the fiancee visa. My fiancee sent the paperwork off in September to California, so we should hear something next month if the process dates are anything to go by.
I was wanting to know what is the cost, either dollars or pounds for the other form process. I know the medical in London is £200.00, but other than this figure I am unaware of any other costs to be sent with any future forms.
Many thanks

Am I right in thinking that when you have the medical, the cost is £200. Also I have been informed that $350 has to be paid BEFORE your interview. Can someone shed some light onto this please. How can you pay the $350 before the interview. Can it be done over the phone with a debit card, or does it have to be sent before?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisiting USA while K1 Being Processed
I visited my fiancee in Denver, I flew out on Christmas Eve and returned on the 8th of January. I took a letter from work stating what time and day I was expected to return to work and thats all.
I was asked at the homeland security check what was my purpose of the visit, I said visiting my fiancee and they asked if I was marrying this trip, I said no. That was the end of the questions. I should imagine every occasion is different. Oh and if its any help, I flew into Chicago.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresLawyer vs. Self file K1

We are newbies to filing a K1. I have read alot of posts and different websites. By far this has been the best website for information and we are really getting excited to submit the K1 documents. The question I have is how many people are using a lawyer to submit the documents and how many are going at it by themselves? Also I am curious to know the sucess rate for each. My gal is in the Philippines if that helps out which I have heard is a little tougher.

Thanks all for your help.

Chris and Joyce

Hi and welcome aboad :)
I don't know the cost of the lawyer route, but I would like to say that personally I would do it yourself. My fiancee is in U.S and I live in U.K, and all my questions were answered on this site. I know there will be times when you question yourself for going it alone with a lawyer, but its worth it. Good luck :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPoint of Entry

Hi! I'm a K-1 visa holder and I will be leaving for U.S next week. My fiancee is from New York and her parents are from New Jersey. When I was interviewed in the embassy they asked me what address I'll be staying in the US? so I gave my fiance New York address since we decided that we are going to live there after our wedding. Are family are both very religious and we can only live together after our wedding. My parents are from texas and I'm planning to stay there for 2 weeks before we all go to New Jersey and meet her parents and celebrate our Engagement party and then our Wedding. Now, my question is: Is it ok if I will arrive in Texas before going to New Jersey? or do I need to arrive in New York since that's the address I provided in the embassy? I just don't want to have any problems when I get to U.S. Hope to hear from you soon. Thanks!

That will not matter at all. I arrived in Philadelphia but I live in Denver. You will have your immigration paperwork (I-94) stamped where you arrive. You will also have a very small interview at your Point of Entry, but no trouble whatsoever.
Good Luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTax returns for interview??

Hey everyone!! Was wondering if someone could fill me in on something...do I need tax returns from my fiance for the interview or will W-2's and Pay stubs be enough??

Hi,
I think tax transcripts OR W-2's are good, you won't need both. My wife had given me 1 years W-2's and the last 2 years transcripts, but they show the same earning and tax details, you will of course need pay stubs.
Good Luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresEmbassy Payment...

Not sure if this is the right forum...

I did a google search to try and find the answer to this question - but it seems as though there are a lot of different opinions and then there is the actual embassy website (which I am guessing is what I should go by, I just want to make sure I'm reading it right).

So - when do we pay the embassy fee? The embassy website say, "K Visa Applicants pay the fee to the Operator Assisted Information Service prior to attending the visa interview. Instructions concerning payment will be sent to you with the appointment letter." However, some people on this forum have said that they will not give you an appointment letter until they have payment.

We have schedule our medical, will be sending in DS-2001 and supporting forms next week...do we wait for the appointment letter or call and pay next week as well??

When you get the appointment letter you should pay over the phone. You will need your case number and other details like name and personal things. You will get an email to confirm payment, PLEASE PRINT THIS and take it to the interview as proof.
Hope this helps
Dave :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSo frustrating!

So my fiance and I got engaged in Scotland (where he lives) mid-April and filed the paperwork which USCIS received May 16th. We received the NOA1 very soon after that but are STILL stuck in the preliminary (background check) stage of the process. Our wedding is November 5th of this year and I'm terrified we aren't going to have this visa in time. I've spoken to USCIS and they said we could still get married but then we'd have to start the process all over again to file for a spouse visa and there's no guarantee he'd be able to stay. We've spent way too much time apart and I don't want to wait any longer! Anyone have any advice? Does it really only 5 months for this (in which case we'd be fine) or is it much longer?

PLEASE HELP!!

Hi KrisandJennie,
I see your pain of being apart, but the November wedding could be out of the question, I am sorry. My interview took 200 days to get, then I had to plan the flights, put in my notice at work and tidy up my affairs in U.K. which added a small amount of extra time, and all without RFE's. If you get a RFE this will add more time.
I am sorry for the bad news, but just think that you will be together soon, do not rush it I beg. It will be worth the wait.
Dave :)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Visa US Embassy London

If anyone can shed some light on my status, that would be great?

I had my K-1 visa interview at the US Embassy London on June 5th 2011. The interview went well, nothing was asked of me in addition to the paperwork I provided. I was first seen by an administrator who went through the paperwork I had mailed to the embassy and she confirmed all was OK. I was next seen by an American inteviewer at a second window who again went through the paperwork and asked simple questions like what's your profession. Again nothing was queried and he stated everything is in order.

At the end of about 15 minutes he said they had to do some more administrative processing, and they'll be in contact via the details I have provided. I was given the blue 221-G form with only the box that states Administrative Processing ticked.

Since then I waited 60 days and called the embassy in London to no avail and no details. I've called the processing offices in the US again no details of help. They all give the same answer pending administrative processing. It is now entering the 4th month since the interview and I have no idea how long I have to wait.

Does anyone else have a similar experience?

Sorry about this my friend, but usually you get told on the day of the interview if you passed. Most people get the visa posted out within a week. Did you pay for the posting of your visa. I would suggest emailing or calling again.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurestax transcript.
These are excerpts from another interview.Jen is the petitioner and Bbs is the bene, jen and babs who had their interview approved recently.Again this is from their experience at the embassy taken from

After that the officer mainly asked me questions. He asked me about when I was in Peace Corps and how many times I had been to Ghana and looked at my passport. He said all of our evidence was fine that he had no questions about our relationship and that was the good news. The bad news was that I don't have tax transcripts and the Accra embassy requires tax transcripts. I asked why when I had two other forms of evidence like the I-134 form required, but he said it was a post policy so there is no way around it. He said I will need a cosponsor since i was not regularly employed last year and can't produce tax transcripts.

That was the bad news. But it wasn't too bad because he gave us another appointment for the next week. That gave us time to get a signed ORIGINAL I-134 from the co-sponsor with tax transcripts (only). the transcripts could be faxed but the form had to be original signed so we had to get it DHL. The officer was really helpful as far as giving me specific information about this.

The following week Babs went back and turned in the forms from the cosponsor. They didn't ask any more questions, but we had a mistake with the tax form (tax returns instead of transcripts). The officer (a different officer from the last time) gave him the link to the IRS website and gave him another appointment two weeks later. Really they were pretty patient with all of that. By the next date we had the transcripts as required and Babs handed them in. They took his contact information and said they would call him about when to pick up the visa. Now we are just waiting on Administrative Processing and praying it will be taken care of quickly. Thank God for getting us this far.

My first interview was on December 23, 2010. I was called around 12:30 (20 minutes after fingerprinting and documents submission) and the Consular Officer (CO) was very nice and professional. I didn't have any complication just a normal conversation as to how and when I met my wife. My wife and I were missionaries in Indonesia and got married there, and the CO happened to have stayed in Indonesia for 12 months, so our conversation took another dimension - we talked about Indonesia and favorite Indonesian food and stuff! In all it was a wonderful experience. The CO had no issue with me except that I didn't bring tax transcripts for 2008-2009. The CO said: "I'm fine with you and I don't have any problem with your relationship, but there's a little problem; you didn't bring tax transcripts for 2008-2009. This is what we're going to do: I'm giving you a form that I want you to scan to your wife to get you those papers. I would have asked you to come back tomorrow, but it's going to take some time for her to get you those papers. How about January 12?" So I was given another date (January 12) to bring the tax papers.

i was married but fileed single because my wife lived in ghana and i did not want to go through the husle of applying for the itin moreso her interview date was close and even when she went for the interview nobody asked her. i personally dont think it's a big deal because people file married but filing single so why will the embassy want to make it a problem if you can defend your reason.

I completely understand your point.Just make sure you contact the IRS and ask them also. This will come up for questioning at the interview so please make sure you are able to tell the CO and hopefully after you talk to the IRS and they tell you what you could have done you can tell the CO what the IRS told you.I don't think its going to affect you too much.
