US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionMontreal, Canada, Interview timeline???Does anyone know how back logged Montreal is for K1 interviews?
Our documents were received in early December, we were told in February to expect an April interview, and now have been told to expect to wait an additional 4 to 6 months. Those in line just before us have already gotten dates of from between late April to early May, so I don't know what in the heck is going on up there, unless some staff quit out of total frustration (not likely, they have killer jobs doing nothing evidently), but I've already contacted my Congressman, my Senators, and every presidential candidate and let them know WHY the illegal immigration problem is so huge. If our Consulates in Canada have such a hard time processing applicants, just THINK what it must be like down South!

Lol, Sharon is a Manager for a few of the NYF's in Ottawa, maybe she can get some sent to you....And just so happens, there's a Timmy's right next to her stores..lol. I'd never heard of Poutine before meeting Sharon, and now it's all I hear about. I'll pass along your requst to her, and who knows, if Fedex has a "hotPack" you might be getting a knock at your door with some fresh, hot Poutine soon :D

CanadaCalled Montreal, Got some actual info..
Called Montreal this week because Sharon was getting so depressed over the constant waiting and worrying. Finally, was able to speak to an actual person after the usual 30 minutes of classical sleep-aids. Gave them our MTL #, and was told initially, no, no interview date given yet. When I persisted, she told me that based upon our line in the que, we should expect an April interview date. I had already guessed that based upon the other timelines here, that we should expect about a mid-april interview. But just knowing that SOMEONE there can look and guestimate a timeline gives me some hope that all of this will soon be coming to a happy ending. Keep at em folks, they will eventually get to all of us!

CanadaMTL CONTRADICTS ITSELF....
Montreal is running 6 months behind at the moment. They received our packet in early December, informed us on Feb 17th that we should expect an April interview, and in late April, when we inquired, were told it could be another 4 to 6 months. Needless to say, my Congressman and Senators became involved. At this point, we have been told to expect a late June or July appointment. You can find the actual email from my congressional aide in the MTL Timeline forum. From what I've seen of the timelines, some January Packet 3's have had appointments scheduled for June, so I don't know what's up with the first-come, first-served thing, but so far NOTHING has made sense out of Montreal. The ONLY thing we can hope for at this point is, that they are SO swamped, the State Department will send in a crew to help them catch back up to just being 4 months behind again.

Dammit! Of all the people on here, you have to be the nicest, most considerate in my humble opinion. What you are dealing with is our government in action. If it's some policy somewhere in a stack of official government paperwork that was typed in triplicate back in 1947, they are gonna go by that to CYA. That's all it amounts to. "Cover my A** in case this ever gets reviewed by someone higher up than me. I have a nice cushy job here at the Consulate basically doing nothing, and I sure wouldn't want to lose that!" I hope your fiancee goes to their representatives and Senators about that. Something THAT long ago on a record with nothing thereafter is kind of silly to even consider. I for one would trust ya with MY car. I know nothing is going to make you feel much better at the moment, but you've got a LOT of friends here pulling for a VERY QUICK resolution to this matter, and praying for it!

Keep us informed.

All our love,

CanadaOMG I'M HOME
Hey all,

Yesterday, wait the day before was the bus ride from hell. Not only did all the buses depart late, LLOOLLLL instead of two transfers, I ended up having 5. I left 8 pm Tuesday, got in NC at midnight thursday, No sleep Not much food to think about, but there was my Alan. He brought me to a restuarant, I pigged out, then we drove HOME. smile.gif I hadn't seen my puppy for 2 years, she about knocked me down. I never knew she had such a wet fast and furious tongue helpsmilie.gif Alan had candles all over the bathroom in preperation for my what was supposed to be early arrival i was 5 hrs. late.. ... but the thought was there, i jumped in a hot steamy bath, then everything hit me.... THIS IS IT........ IM HOME.

I crawled into my comfortable bed, a far cry from the YMCA YWCA tiny bed, then dropped into a restless sleep. So much to be done yet. After 5 hrs. sleep the long days before hit my body, but i never felt so good a pain before. smile.gif I opened my vsa seen that stamp stating one entry... So much more to do.

smile.gif I do have to thank all of you for the support expecially when I was at my lowest. For those of you who feel like giving up, Don't. You will never feel the peace of mind I did when at customs the nice young man *who had turned me away from the border 2 yrs ago* smiled at me and said, "Congratulations, I hope you have a wonderful life and welcome to the USOFA."

All this is worth it and some.

I did have to laugh when the min I told Alan my visa came in, he said, "holy #######, I have to clean"

Again, Thank you all, expecially PresGirl, Lance, Ron and Sharon and ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, so many

CanadaOpening US Bank Accounts online
Wachovia, Firstbancorp, BB&T (bbt.com), RBC Centura (Royal Bank of Canada bought out Centura) and if I might add, IF where you are moving has a small, hometown bank, they are generally much preferable to the large corporate banks. They will bend over backwards to assist you, and usually have minimal requirements for opening an account. Only drawback is lack of locations, but ATMS, and online accounting are pretty common for even the smallest banks these days. Virtually all will give you a Debit card which will work in any ATM. I have accounts at both types, my Business account is with BB&T, and they are pretty fair, just have tons of charges for about anything you do except breathe, and that's probably coming soon. My personal account is with a small local bank and they are great for just about anything I need.

Hope that helps you.

CanadaBecause everyone in Canada lives in an igloo...
Well, as an Uhmericun (Gotta say it the way G.B. does now I guess) I was pleasantly suprised to find no roving Moose gangs during my two trips to Ottawa to visit my fiance. She told me that they only have the performing Mooses at the Changing of the guard ceremonies now, Cirque de Moolais I think she called it, and that the REAL problem was beavers. Evidently, Canadian Beavers are real popular with Americans, and we have been bringing them here to the US in large numbers. Otherwise, my impression of Canada is that it's kinda like Pennsylvannia without the Quakers (from driving through there on the way to Ottawa.) On a more serious note, I LOVE Canada, and had a blast during my two visits there. Both were in August, the weather was wonderful, Ottawa was beautiful, and I'd love to have a 2nd home there one day. Oh, and if you ever find yourself in Ottawa, check out a place called "The Works". It's a fantastic burger joint, with the most delicious burgers I've ever tasted. The folks there were just the nicest, and we stuffed ourselves on Burgers and beer. I HAVE had some Timmies too btw, and it was pretty awesome, although I spent a LOT more at the LCBO's there tongue.gif.

CanadaWheres all the privileges to be canadian
If you peek at your application over the glass at the interview, you will notice the approved stamp already in place. My belief *and it's 9 am with only a few sips of coffee so hold this belief lightly* is:

1. To Piss you off because you had to endure Montreal's roads and try to look calm. *If you still plan on marrying your Spouse to be after the obscenities on this trip you must be in Love*

2. If you don't have a heart attack while in the waiting room, you must be healthy enough to enter the US.

3. The need to make sure everything is filled in properly *spent more time with the nice lady going through the paperwork then the interviewer*

4. To see if you have a good memory *who the *@&$ remembers how many times you entered the US *do we count the daily shopping trips too many to remember.**

5. To let the interviewer practice his low intimidating voice just in case it is needed for more important interviews.

Other then the above mentioned items, I have come to the conclusion, the 3 min interview is just to grab that last 100 $ before the real money needs to change hands.

addendum ..... OTTAWA SENATORS ARE THE BEST NHL TEAM although *gulp* wink.gif since I'm now in the US specifically North Carolina, shhhh I am supposed to root for the Cains.........

Love you all

I was lucky, after the wedding, I went to apply for my social security number. At first the lady said after my perm residence status was adjusted I was to go back and get the non working code off of my number. By the time we left, *I guess we made an impression* she said I could start working right away.

Not sure if she was mistaken, a few days later I went back to pick up the number. I was greeted by another nice lady in training. She verified there wasn't a non working code attached to my number and I was free to work right away.

This shows me some do overlook red tape maybe because it is a small town and they do see a face.

Well folks, we've gone and done it.... MARRIED on October 6th in a beautiful ceremony..... Sorry for the lack of posts for a bit, but between getting Sharon here, all the paperwork, wedding arrangements, more paperwork, licenses, oh, and a few snuggles in there every so often, we've been kinda busy. NOW it's MORE paperwork, a LOT more money, well, you know the drill..... But all part of the process smile.gif

EVERYONE keep your heads up, if you are still waiting, it WILL happen. THe worst part of our experience was just never knowing WHEN, but take it one day at a time. Every day means you are one day closer to the I Do's!

My best advice, Call AND Email them. I did both, called first, was told her new address was in the system, and then due to my paranoia, emailed later. My email reply basically stated that they changed it after having received my email that day. Take NOTHING for granted, especially when they are as understaffed as they are now. You are probably not going to get through on the phones any more, so email will become the method of last resort, but at least you will have a copy of the correspondence to verify that you have done YOUR part in the even that some beaurocrat lets you know that everything is your fault. Yeah, I've grown pessemistic with the system, but sometimes it pays to be that way tongue.gif

The Government basically has to wait to hire new employees after the new fiscal year, which is October 1st. I don't know if the State Department used up all their money on Condoleeza Rice's trips to all those countries to reassure everyone that the US was doing so well in Iraq and at home, but something sure is strange. Her assistant actually took the blame for not hiring enough staff to handle the huge mess with Passports (That's where most of the help has gone is my opinion) and the Consulates got the short end of the stick. So they won't have any additional staff to handle this mess until after the October 1st new Fiscal Year. (This is what MY Senator's aide told me)

Sux. I just hope everyone gets through as fast as possible!

Am I calling the wrong number?

At this time I'm on hold with them with music, the two previous calls were dead air, been waiting for 24 minutes now. They are doing a very good job at ignoring us today. It is Monday so they are probably still hung-over from the weekend.

Well, now Sharon & I are just waiting for the Visa in the mail. She'll have to fly down now (that RCMP check cost us another $300 I figure in airfare) but at least she'll BE here. I made the mistake of trying to follow Yahoo map directions backwards to come home too. NEVER do that! I drove from Ottawa to my home (887 miles) in one day, but I accidentally stayed on I-83 into Baltimore MD to hit I-95 south at RUSH HOUR. From Baltimore to the south of DC took about 3 hours at an average of 5 miles an hour. INTERSTATES MY A**. I had an Amish guy in a horse-drawn buggy passing me. A 14 hour drive turned into a 16 1/2 hour trip. It was as much fun as driving in Montreal. But made it home, and now just waiting for Sharon to call and say she has that Visa in her hand, and get her HERE. Hope everyone's appointments on the 8th go well! Dear Fellow Montreal Consulate Visitors!

We're BAAACCCKKKKKKKK :D

Okay, here's our story......

Got up at 4 AM to drive from Ottawa to Montreal and beat the rush hour traffic (hah cussin hah!). NO time is non rush-hour time in Montreal. Okay, got there at 6:35 am, just in time to get crushed in the rush. By the way, coming into Montreal, every exit is on the RIGHT side EXCEPT the $*^#(%*3) one you NEED to take. So, took a nice tour of some local neighborhoods and woke up a few unsuspecting people with my cussing out the window of the Jeep. Got back on the right road. Cussed a few more folks and made it over to the left lane. Made it off THAT exit ramp. Shock absorbers replaced. (The roads?) in Montreal haven't been repaired since 1902, BUT, they are busy closing a lot of lanes making it LOOK like they are repairing them. Got Sharon to quit cowering in her seat by promising NOT to actually kill anyone, and shouted out MY window for a bit. (She says she'll still marry me even after seeing my worst, WOOHOO). Took the proper exits and turns, found the Consulate, and got a parking spot quickly in a paid parking area. Saw a bunch of folks sitting out in front of a building, and figured that was the embassy. Walked that way and found out it was a local university, turned arouond and saw the BIGGEST BLACK dild* of a building I've ever seen in my life. This was OBVIOUSLY the embassy. Woohoo. Walked up, looked in, and was suprised by the NICEST young guard who told us to come on in, take our clothes off and get comfy (not really, but Sharon thought he was cute). They were ALL extremely nice and polite, and helped us right on up to the 19 floor. We were there for about 15 seconds and they started telling people to go to window #9. At 7:30 no less! We had an 8:45 AM appointment, but they just started tellin us to go to this window and that window. Well, we waited a few minutes between windows, and then got called by the NICEST woman and she took all of our papers, sorted them for us, and was generally very cheerful for that time of morning. She mentioned we needed 2 copies of the K-156 which we had, and the letter just mentions ONE. Be aware of that! We then waited for the interview, which we were called to soon enough in room 7. Some young fellow all dressed up asked us a few questions, made us swear an oath (Not THAT kinda oath, which we've grown accustomed to swearing over the past year and a half). He looked everything over, then asked if Sharon had an RCMP report for ALL of her names. WOOPS! She had told the RCMP fella that she thought she better have that, but he told her that her current name would be just fine. NOPE! You HAVE to have a report for every name you've ever had, Maiden, previous married, etc. Our faces sunk. Well, he gave us some paperwork that told what to send in, and Then said just get it to them in the mail, and it would take from one to two weeks to get it processed and her Passport back to her. Not sure what that meant, but in reading the letter, it basically states that That's all they need to issue the Visa :) (Send it ATTN. to the IV ISSUANCE ) SO, while we are not 100% positive, It looks as though we are through and just awaiting the Visa in the mail. We sent the info out overnight next day Noon delivery as soon as we got back from Montreal (and only got lost 3 times leaving there, woohoo!) Note to ANYONE wishing to VISIT Montreal; LOOK for a date when everyone there has their car in the shop and won't be on the roads, cause you WON"T enjoy driving anywhere in that city! Oh, and get new tires and shocks, you will NEED THEM.

Love ya all!

Alan & Sharon

P.S. Goodluck to everyone going on the 8th!

no sh!t. If my parents or my inlaws or anyone else asks me one more time "have you heard from the consulate?" I will so bite their heads off. I know they are being supportive but sheesh. Again, sorry for the rant, I know you understand.
L.

I hear you, after being asked the same thing every day by more then one person, my last nerve is raw. I'm to the point where I don't answer the phone, door or emails. I go to work come home see Alan on line go to bed. They have our lives on hold for as long as they want. Oh then there is the "reach in the YMCA's mail box to find yet again Nothing". I was wondering though, how good is the medical, RCMP check and passport pictures good for. Yet another worry!!!

Whew it feels good to rant

Thanks, Sharon :innocent:
