US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionCan my graduate stipend satisfy sponsorship requirements for my fiancee?
Hello! I just filed a K-1 visa application for my fiancee from the Netherlands this month. We are hoping that he will be able to move to the US this fall, at which point I will be beginning a PhD program with full funding for 5 years- I am guaranteed a full tuition waver, full health insurance, and a $17,500 annual stipend for living expenses.

My question is: will this qualify to be his financial sponsor or will I need to find a co-sponsor? I know they usually require things like pay stubs etc, but I won't have those until I begin graduate school in September 2011, so the best I will have is a guarantee from the school and a funding offer. I can probably get a letter from the department explaining my funding package, but since it won't have come through by the time he has his meeting at the consulate I'm worried. It also won't be on my tax return for this year, and my taxable income for last year wouldn't meet the poverty line as I was a full time student. It is taxable income, and will be declared on my 2011 tax return, but I'm just unclear about whether I will be able to provide the sponsorship with grad student funding. Does anyone have experience with this? Any advice is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan graduate school funding satisfy for K-1 sponsorship?
Thanks for the responses! Because I won't start receiving it until September 2011 it wont be on any tax return I can use in the process (we are hoping he will have his Visa by next tax day!) but will it matter how I WILL claim it? I am expecting tuition reimbursement as well as a stipend, so I think the stipend is claimed as income because it is intended to support me (rent etc)... but in absence of past tax returns and pay stubs do you think they will take my documents from the grad school guaranteeing support as proof of income? It is essentially like a work contract set to begin right before he would be entering the US (about 9 months after we send in the I-129F). I suppose it would just be easier to find a co-sponsor at this point...

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan graduate school funding satisfy for K-1 sponsorship?
Hello! I am filing a Fiancee visa for my boyfriend from the Netherlands this month. We are hoping for him to be moving to the US this fall, at which point I will be beginning a PhD program with guaranteed full funding for 5 years- I'm not sure how much yet but more than the poverty line for our family of 2. My question is: will this qualify to be his financial sponsor or will I need to find a co-sponsor? K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWorking for foreign national country in the US before legal to work in US?
Hello! I just filed a I-129F for my fiancee from the Netherlands. When he comes to America, is able to continue working for a Dutch (private) company by doing remote work via the internet. We are planning to declare that to the IRS and he will be taxed for it, although still paid in Euros. My question- will this work to help assure immigration that he wont be a drain on the government, therefore making me less of a necessity to prove my income? I know I will still have to either sponsor him or provide a co-sponsor, but has anyone had success using the income of the beneficiary to satisfy the financial support issue?

Perhaps the bigger questions is, is this legal? I know he won't be allowed to work legally in the US until 6 months or so after we get married, but can he continue his Dutch job?

If anyone has experience with this please advise!

Thank you!
