I am trying to pay the AOS bill online right now. I check the AOS box, then click on Pay Selected Fees, and nothing happens. That page just reloads. I feel like an idiot; what am I doing wrong?

Did you get an email with an invoice and the IIN number saying the bills were available to be paid? If so, the site may be having difficulties. Try it again later.

CanadaElectronic Processing

I've had a few PMs about this lately, so just a quick rule of thumb for those folks about to do Electronic Processing:

The whole process perfectly mirrors regular processing, the only differences being that A.) you have to scan all your documents into .pdf format and email them (there's literally NO paper exchange), and B.) there are NO instructions sent from NVC about the process. But it really is the same -- when your fee payment becomes available on NVC's site, you pay it as you normally would, then wait until you get the bar-coded cover sheet...THEN you send that, along with all of the scanned documents required in the first step (i.e.: what you would be sending in your first snail mail package to NVC...). Then, once they've received that, the payment site will show the NEXT fee to be due. You pay that, then monitor the site until that clears and you get the second bar-coded sheet. You then email that along with the next batch of scanned documents. It's also important to call NVC's automated voice recording (AVR) system every day or two, just to make sure things are progressing. You're really in the dark otherwise...so you need to keep tabs on it. I only learned of an RFE (minor mistake on our end) three days after it was issued, simply because I called the NVC AVR on a lark. I was able to have that taken care of on the same day I called them...and the case was completed three days later.

I plan on eventually doing up a Wiki for this once I've successfully navigated through the whole process (including interview, since things are a bit different for EPers there too). Until then, for the few of you who are about to start / have started the EP process, just be aware that there's really no communication from NVC. You just have to assume you're doing it correctly!

If you want some help or another set of eyes to look at it before you post it, I'll be glad to help out... You have the experience of an RFE, I do not...

At what point does my wife need the passport photos then?

I sent my (scanned) pictures with the DS-230 yes.gif

Here's a list of what I put in, as listed on my cover letter:

- Document Cover Sheet (with barcode)
- Form DS-3032, signed
- Form DS-230 (4 pages) and Complementary Information (2 pages), signed
Supporting documents:
o Marriage certificate
o Police certificate
o 2 Passport size photos
o Passport biographic page
o Birth certificate, front and back, original (Copie d’acte de naissance) and translation

and then I wrote: "Scanned copies of documents submitted are exact copies of unaltered documents and I understand that I will be required to submit original documents to an Immigration or Consular officer at a later date."

smile.gif

Good luck!

Excellent! So you included the 3032 with the 230 email? Interesting, I thought this was to be submitted first before you could even begin the 864 or the 230.

The IV Fee bill would not have been generated if the 3032 was not already accepted, so that is not needed to be sent again.

Grr...I just received an email with a letter dated today stating that they've processed the I-864 and that I should now send in the DS-230 etc. I sent that in well over a week ago!

Anyone else get this letter too? I'm thinking I'll just ignore it...

Was it a checklist letter? If it was and you already sent in your 230, don't worry about it. good.gif

We started the EP process and are regretting it now. Every email we have sent the NVC has gotten held up in their third party email router for a minimum of 2 weeks until it is forwarded to the NVC.

I agree with one of the previous posts: EP stands for 'Ever Pissed' mad.gif

Your timeline looks about right for the NVC at this point. There is no way to get through the NVC in 2 weeks now. Its just another hurdle to overcome in the process.

Okay, so my wife submitted the OPTIN email to NVC Montreal on Oct 27th along with the DS-3032 scanned and signed by her naming me as the agent. I paid the $70 AOS bill online a few days prior and it shows "PAID" as of now.

We have NOT received the confirmation back from NVC stating that we have opted in for EP. I did call NVC and give both of our emails to an operator last Thursday.

Based on what I've read here thus far, can we go ahead and submit the I-864 along with the printed "PAID" AOS fee now even though we haven't received the confirmation optin email back from NVC?

Then once we send that in, we wait for the IV Fee to be invoiced, pay it, wait for it to show as "PAID", then print that sheet off and submit with the I-230 package correct?

is this all right? Thanks for your help VJ'ers!

J

I emailed the I-864 package as soon as it showed paid. I did not wait for the confirmation email. It takes about 2 - 3 weeks for them to accept this package. Either way you choose to do it, send it immediately, or wait for the confirmation email is up to you. I don't think either way is incorrect. But note, there is a size limit when you send in your emails.

QUOTE
When most people submit the I-864, do they actually include 3 years worth of tax returns? That's an awful lot to scan in specially since mine are 20-30 pages each year! It says one year is sufficient, but 3 may be submitted if one believes it will help qualify. I have rental properties as well, but don't really know if I want to go through the hassle of listing all of those assets, my yearly income alone is more than enough above the 125% level to qualify me. Don't want to fill out more than is necessary you know.

I included 3 years worth of returns. But you are not required to do so. If your returns are that big, I would only include one and see if they RFE you for more evidence. If you are not using assets as proof, then use the 864EZ form and send in at least 6 months of paystubs...

YEP whatever they asked for.. I scanned and sent it to them! You have to, unless you want an RFE for photos which would totally suck lol!

Now, when you say "asked for" do you mean they provided a list via email, or do you just mean the standard requirements for each packet?

I just checked LingChe's shortcut Wiki. Here's what it says:

Send your IV Package

Below are the package contents:

* BARCODED Cover Sheet (to be printed from web when your status is PAID online for IV bill)

* You OWN cover sheet listing what documents are in the package, so they're easy for the reviewer to locate

* Completed DS-230 part I & II and ONLY part I signed by beneficiary.

* Photocopy of the beneficiary's passport biographic data page.

* Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s birth certificate.

* Original/certified copy of beneficiary’s and petitioner’s marriage certificate.

* Original police certificates of the beneficiary.

* Original/certified copy of military record, if applicable.

* Original/certified copy of divorce decree, death certificate, etc. of previous marriage, if applicable.

I would read the instructions on the DS-230 to see if they need photos of the Beneficiary or not....

I just got my IV Fee Bill e-mail. I guess they do send them still. I paid it last night, so I hope it doesn't screw me up. I guess I'll find out soon enough.

From what I understand from Sierratango, there is no difference in process for electronic filing then regular filing EXCEPT for electronic filing, you email everything in pdf format to the special Montreal NVC email address and do not mail anything in unless they request it.

So after you pay your bills and they show paid, print out the Paid receipt then email the packets in. For Montreal, they do not change your case number, so no need to wait for that.

Edit: Oops, nevermind. Caught that part on rereading. Thanks!

wink.gif

The I-864 was sent in after the $70 bill was accepted and PAID receipt generated, right after I opted in, the rest, well, you saw that. wink.gif

Interesting. I thought a separate case number had to be generated first? That's the gist I got from Darnell's wiki...

It looks like information is pretty vague on the actual STEPS of the process.

I see that my IV bill is eligible to be paid, though the message at NVR doesn't say it has received the DS-3032...just the payment for it. Then again, I don't know if the messages at NVR are applicable, since we're doing it a different way.

Questions, questions, questions!

I saw nothing in on the NVC website or in the information that was sent via the initial email from the NVC that says Montreal will issue you a new case number. I believe that is just for Guangzhou. I could be wrong, I don't know, I'm checking with sierratango since he went through this process already. I'm thinking it may be beneficial to have seperate Wiki's for the different electronic filing consulates as things may be different at each one.

I'll let you know if I find out anything.

Dear Sir/Madam:

Thank you for your interest in processing your case electronically with
the National Visa Center (NVC).

Your case has been updated with the email address you have provided to
us.

All further communication with NVC will now be done through this email
address NVCMontreal@state.gov.

All documents and forms that we request and require from you should be
scanned copies of the originals. The applicant must present all
original forms and documents to the Consular officer at the visa
interview. Failure to present the required originals at the visa
interview will result in a denial or delay in obtaining a visa for the
sponsored applicant.

So...does that sound to you like I can go ahead and send all my scanned documents, or is there another email I need to wait on?

What happened in your situation, Redmen?

Congrats! good.gif

Honestly, I don't really know, but this is what I did/am doing:

Once I received the same email you got, I checked to see if the IV Fee bill was available to be paid, and it was. I waited a few days for another email with instructions to pay the bill, but none came. I didn't want to pay it right away because 1) the AVR still did not say they accepted the DS-3032 AND 2) there have been too many people on here that have been delayed 2-3 weeks because they paid the IV Fee Bill too early. I didn't want that to happen. Once the AVR changed to reflect the accepted choice of agent (a day later) I waited another day or two and still never got an email to pay it, so I called the NVC yesterday and the operator said it was fine to pay. So I paid that last night, and checked my bank info this morning and the money has been taken from my account already. Once the PAID receipt is available, you'll need to scan it and email that along with the DS-230 packet then anxiously await for log in fail and then case complete and then the all important interview. kicking.gif

I'll keep updating this as I go along. Hope it helps.

Apparently the NVC is not all that careful with their information. I just got another email from the NVC, same one I got, but the names listed on the very bottom were not mine and my husbands. Fortunately, the person who sent the email only has their names, dates of birth and email addresses. And fortunately for them, I'm not a thief so I'll just be deleting this email after forwarding it back to the NVC to let them know they messed up....

I just said to my husband last night I'm expecting to hear something from them soon, and there is was today! kicking.gif The same thing happened with the AOS Fee Bill emails.... good.gif

I also just checked the online payment page and my IV Fee bill is now available to be paid! I'm so happy! C'mon payday!!!

So it took them 13 days or 9 working days to get to my "optin" email and accept the DS-3032.

As far as scanning goes, I printed out the filled in forms, and had the hubby sign those and I scanned them in as pdf files. Just note, I believe that there is a limit of 20m when emailing documents to them. I had a hard time with the AOS package and had to send less info then I intended so that I could fit under that limit. (basically I sent 6 months of paystubs instead of the year and left out my work's offer letter)

Someone also asked if it mattered who e-mailed in the forms. I sent in the DS-3032 and I'm the petitioner, not the beneficiary. I sent that form in along with my optin email. They apparently accepted it, or the IV feel bill would not be have been issued. YAY!!!

Good luck to all who are e-filing! kicking.gif just remember, hurry up and wait, its the immigration way! whistling.gif innocent.gif

I am in the process of electronic filing right now.

I got the emails from NVC and sent the optin email and DS-3032 on October 6 and then emailed over the AOS package on October 9th. I still haven't heard anything from the NVC. The AVR says they received my AOS fee bill on October 6 and they will send further instructions shortly.... ranting33va.gif crying.gif

So at this point, electronic filing doesn't seem any faster at all then paper filing.... mad.gif

I'll keep everyone updated.

Canada2010 Tax thread - For Canada and the U.S.

1. No, if he is not a US Permanent resident or Citizen, he has no obligation to file a US Income Tax return.
2. You send it to Austin, TX, or you can file electronically. If your husband does not have an ITIN, you have to file by mail.
3. A while...
4. Use your Canadian address
5. YOu would file a normal 1040. But would exclude your foreign income using Form 2555. YOu would also have to file an W-7 to get an ITIN. YOu have to go to an acceptance agent to have them verify his documents. A list of acceptance agents is on the IRS website.
6. Not sure what you mean..
7. If your income is 0... you have no obligation to file as you have no worldwide income.

Canada2010 Tax thread - For Canada and the U.S.
Help! I'm so confused! I'm reading the US Tax guide for Aliens but I don't see anything about EI payments in there. My husband was unemployed and on EI his entire time in Canada in 2010 (until March) and for like a month in the US. I'm not sure if he received a T4E or not. If he received that form, do I need to report his EI income on the unemployment line and then file the Tax Credit form 1116 for that money? If he didn't receive the form, should I just fill out my forms as usual and not worry about his EI payments?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

CanadaIR1 / CR1 - Montreal Timeline to Interview

I've been away for a while and noticed several posts about the Montreal Consulate keeping people's originals. Of course at the border they would tell you the Consulate would never do that - it MUST be your fault somehow :)

We had our interview Feb 10th and were approved conditionally so our wait is going to be extended another two or three weeks at least. My wife's birth certificate was from Quebec and entirely in French. The documents that we just translated ourselves were approved by the USCIS and NVC ages ago so once again we find every agency just follows their own rules. The other issue was, again, even though it was explained that I never lived in the U.S. until 2009 and never even had an SSN until summer of 2008, and didn't earn one dime in the U.S. in 2008 he still wanted to see a tax filing even if it was all zeroes, again even though this was all explained in the documents sent to the NVC and already accepted and proves nothing towards whether I can support my wife or not. And even then if they want to be picky fine I'll supply the documents (we are, what choice do we have) what really irks me is that instead of patiently explaining exactly what was necessary and what needed to be done the guy just rushed us out of the booth and even though we were insistent about confirming some questions he just opened his door and made like the apocalypse was about to begin so we wouldn't bother him anymore and didn't even give us a chance to explain anything. He just took off.

The other people at the Consulate were nice but that one guy ruined our day. So we have to mail in the remaining documents and then as long as some other bureaucratic i doesn't need to be dotted or t crossed she should finally be getting her visa. Hopefully some of the originals we left with them will be returned to us so we don't have one more problem to worry about.

Sorry to hear about your troubles. I hope you don't mind me asking a question. My husband was also born in Quebec and his birth certificate is also 100% in French. Did they say what the problem was? I had his birth cert translated by someone who went to University for translation and she signed the translation. I'm hoping this will not be a problem. We also have the small card sized birth certificate that is in French and English.

Hope everything works out for you soon.

It might be worth the extra trip. Your medical is very close to the interview. Do you really want to chance it? Plus, it generally takes 2 days to get the results back, so that would mean your results could be done by Feb 25 which would only give a courier Friday and Monday to get the package to you for your interview on Tuesday... Heck, if you do it right, pick up the results on Monday in Toronto on your way to Montreal!

I still feel special for being the bottom green person on that list. :)

Don't get used to that! I'm hoping the others will be scheduled soon and knock you off of that spot. ;)

ewww odd. I just realized when I looked at that list, my NOA2 was 9/11 and I was done at the NVC on 11/9... creepy.... :innocent:

Has any of th VJ'ers that already had interviews posted a review?? Serioulsy...highlight of the day to read a brand new review!! whoot whoot :joy: :joy: :joy:

I'd like to see some new med reviews as well. My hubby decided he wants to have his Medical in Montreal and I'd love to see reviews on both places. I gave the list to him to decide which one he wants to go to based on which one will be easier to get to from wherever he decides to stay, either at his brother's or his dads. But I'd like more info on them both so I feel more comfortable...

I'm starting to think about gathering all info I need for the interview, whenever that may be. For the people that did the Electronic filing at NVC, in your interview letter does it mention that they need to see the original documents like the DS-230 or birth certificates, marriage certificates, etc? I don't want to miss anything.

Thanks!

I'm a newbie to this forum, but I also finished at NVC in November, and now i'm waiting for interview to be scheduled. 8 weeks have passed since completion.
I must say, it's fun to watch you guys pull your hair out about interview dates.

On a new topic, does anyone know if Montreal consulate cares if the medical isn't done in Canada? We are overseas on holiday and it would be so much cheaper and faster to have our medicals done by a civil surgeon over here rather than in Toronto, where's it's sooo expensive. Does it have to be done in Toronto no matter what?

Thanks for any help guys

Yes, the medical has to be done at an approved office in Canada.

My husband's response was, "Eh, I still think we're getting April."

I still think that too, but the NVC can feel free to surprise me at any time....

Unfortunately, I can't share this news with the hubby cause he'll just say to me, well what does that mean? and when will we get our interview. :bonk:  oh to have a crystal ball!

Okay, I'll be SERIOUSLY a sad man if your interview is scheduled around Easter. Yours will be before mine, in theory, and I'm hoping for February...March at latest. Easter is in early April this year, sooo... Murphy had better be far away this time!

I'm just being realistic with the way the timeline is going. I'd love to have an interview in February or March, but I just don't see it happening unless a major miracle happens. Sad, but true....

Yeah, talking to them doesn't do a damn bit of good, does it? It's probably better to just call the AVR every few days.

Some of the agents are fine, sounding empathetic etc....but the ones who read off a script really aggravate me and make me want to yell, "Do you realize how hard it is to wait and wait and wait and have no idea when I'll be able to be reunited with my wife?!?!?" But then they might have the ability to put a frowny-face on my file, so I don't. :P

I already know what is gonna happen for our interview. We have plans for Easter weekend here in Philly. The Habs are playing the Flyers here on Friday night and the Toronto Rock (his favorite lacrosse team) are playing the Wings (my fav team) on Saturday night. We have tickets to both games and some of his family are coming down for both games as well. I can almost guarantee that our interview will be scheduled right around then and totally mess up our plans for that weekend. Its Murphy's Law! I can just feel it happening. I guess if it does, I'll be hosting his family by myself. Good thing we get along!

Thats what I thought too. But we have already done my husbands medical, back in August the reason being is at the time we thought it only took 3 months to get appointment so we figured get it done....maybe if someone from Montreal actually reads these posts then they know that already so they know we don't need all that much time. I am a little worried about not getting an email regarding his appointmet. I emailed them last monday and havent had a reply in regards to that either. So who knows the method behing the madness. I gave up trying to figure it out. Now Im just going with the flow. Its actually to our benefit that the medical is done because we don't have to worry about driving to Toronto in winter but... We are driving to Montreal!!!!!!!!! YUK

I know it doesn't help much now, but apparently, its been pretty nice in Montreal lately. my hubby is there visiting family. He said its nice in Montreal.... and its NEVER nice here in winter! I was there over the New Year holiday and even though it snowed for 3 days straight, the roads were still passable.
