K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 Fiance(e) interview failed
I believe others would agree when I suggest you find out the precise wording of the denial on the sheet of paper given to your fiancée. This allows you to prepare to overcome the claim against you. You mentioned forwarding "a mountain of evidence," but specifically what did you send? Evidence is embassy specific, but for example the Bangkok embassy does not accept calling cards as proof of ongoing relationship. More information is required in order to assist you.

Someone more knowledgeable shall chime in. However, I believe that NSC no longer adjudicates I-129F petitions. I was under the impression they are processed in Vermont and California only.

I'm a Sawasdee thread poster from years back. What happened to this thread? am I really the first poster in 2012? I thought I would bring it to the top.
Well, we have good news, Jum is officially a U.S. citizen. From first meeting in 2004, through the fun adventures of wading through the immigration process, we have come to the finish line. I wanted to thank Visa Journey for all of the great information and support from all the members. It is a long journey for everyone. Speaking from one who has seen it through to the end, I can provide one word of advice on the whole process: "PATIENCE"

Good luck to everyone, as always, I am happy to provide any advice.

Excellent! Congratulations to her. My wife and I first met in Thailand in September 2004 as well, but we didn't start the visa journey until Oct. 2008. She'll be petitioning for citizenship this summer.

You cannot schedule the appointment at the embassy. Rather they shall send the beneficiary notices of receiving the I-129f and interview date along with instructions for additional paperwork.

The sooner your fiancée and you gather the required documents, the sooner her interview. You can read Packet 3 on the embassy's website fora complete list of documents she will need to gather and/or fill out.

On average visa in hand takes about 2-4 months from now depending on how quickly you send in the paperwork as well as how busy the embassy is.

Yes, it would hasten the process if you begin assembling the required documents for the Bangkok interview. You can find a current list on the Bangkok embassy's website.

When you're out in LA, you may wish to visit Thai town. They have some supplies that are tougher to find here on the east coast. I was out there two weeks ago and sent home a box full for my wife.

It seems like many folks have sent in the I-693 (Medical Exam) with their I-485 (Adjustment of Status). However, in the guides it states that if the overseas exam was completed within one year of filing for AOS, then another exam is not required. As well so long as the DS-3025 is not marked "incomplete" the I-693 is not required. Some folks who did not send in the I-693 received RFE for it. We did not send it in and were approved without incident.

It seems as though there is a bit of inconsistency in the adjudication process.

I don't recall it ever being one day for K1's: Generally it was about three days. Could have to do with clearing the backlog since the closure or perhaps they have changed their procedure for printing.

Congratulations to those who passed. Get ready for a winter clothing shopping spree. Even my Northern wife was shocked by the cold.

Thank you very much for that. I actually live in Thailand myself and will be stopping by the Thai post tomorrow to take care of the payment. I'm just a little confused as to what I say when I get in there. Am I purchasing a check from them? Do I just tell them I need to send money to the US embassy, and they'll know what to do? Thanks again.

As Tom stated, you pay the fee directly to the post office and all you get is a receipt. My wife recalls telling the postman that she wanted to pay for the K-1 visa. She lived up in Nan province, yet the man knew exactly what she wanted. She made copies of the receipt, sent the original and brought a copy to the interview.

Hi everyone,

I have another question for you guys. I am about to mail in packet 3, and I wanted to know if the Thai post is the only payment method the embassy accepts? I work near the Bangkok Bank main branch on Silom Rd., and I would like to pick up a banker's check from them, as I did for the petition fee. Do you know if this will be acceptable?

If I understand your question correctly, you are asking whether the embassy accepts forms of payment other than the Thai post for the visa interview. I believe that they do not. The Thai beneficiary pays at the Thai post office and receives a receipt that he or she must submit to the embassy: no personal checks, banker's checks, money orders, cash, etc. are accepted as substitutes.

Hey Jordi, that is kind of strange. I had not noticed that before.

My fiancee told me today that she read on usvisa4thai that one girl received a phone call from the Embassy for a September 2 interview date and another lady received a call for September 4th interview. I am getting "noi jai mak mak."

Near the beginning of 2009 the US embassy came to a screeching halt in issuing interview dates. We waited about five weeks and people began receiving interview dates. The thing is that they had sent their I-129f and packet 3 after ours. I wrote an email to the embassy asking how come since the embassy said that they issue interviews in the order received. My fiancé received her appointment email less than a day later.

Queen's birthday is mother's day. King's birthday is father's day. Unfortunately, at the Embassy you get double screwed. They get to take both country's holidays off. Labor day there is May 1st like the rest of the world, and they also get US labor day off if you are an Embassy employee. Nice work if you can get it I guess. :)

My wife works at the Thai embassy in Washington DC and she loves this, along with access to authentic Thai food.

For all of you who have impending interviews, I wish you and/or your fiancée's all the best.

Like Toma's wife, mine had a fairly uneventful interview. My wife told me shortly afterward that she believed they had already decided on her case and the interview was just a formality. The questioning was light and the lady hardly paid attention to her, but rather was transferring information from my wife's file into the computer. When my wife would give her answer the lady. not looking up, would just say "uh-huh," "ok," "mmmh," etc.

I'm confident for all of you who are next!

And you can thank your stars that the bald man is no longer there interviewing, From the stories, he seemed like the boogie man.

I gave my wife the link to the Thai edition of the book. After reading the introduction, she said that she was not interested in reading more. "sometimes it's better not to know everything, even if it's true.". Though I may disagree, I respect her decision. As a Thai she was raised to always respect the King, which she does, and does not wish to have his image tarnished.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCost of each stage of K1?
Just to estimate the cost of the entire process from petitioning to citizenship (please remember that fees have and shall likely continue to rise) would be approximately $3,000. This does not include the dozens of incidental costs, such as photographs, postage, the airline ticket (!), photocopies, etc. Looks like it shall take us about 4 1/2 years total from filing I-129f to receiving citizenship, so the costs are spread out.

All the best!

I dont see that in your OP but since you have you know exactly what you are doing and should leave asap. Just make sure you know enough about Thailand to be ready if they deport her one of these days.

That is because I am not the original poster. Nonetheless, I was asking you why you would tell the OP that he would not be working Thailand. Plenty of foreigners legally live and work there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresIs evidence of a relationship beyond 2 years helpful? +
The question of whether to include additional evidence with the I-129f has been discussed on VJ for many years and is commonly referred to as front loading the application. The advantage is that a CO must accept for review any evidence submitted with the I-129f whereas he or she may and in several recorded instances has refused to accept evidence presented at the time of the interview.

This is not a very large concern, but why not do so out of an abundance of caution?

ThaitoUSAMaleThailand2014-03-08 07:57:00
K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresVisa Expiry Date vs Petition Ends Date of K1
Someone correct me if wrong, but petition end date has to do with the initial I-129f petition and its movement from adjudication through to the emabassy interview and visa issuance. If it were coming close to expiring, one could write the embassy requesting an extension, which is often granted.

Your primary concern is the visa expiration date. Another consideration is that one would want to enter, get married and file for Adjustment of Status by the visa expiration. If not, one has no legal status once the visa were expired and filing for AOS has not occurred. Anecdotally, many have had a lapse of time between the expiration of the visa and the actual filing of AOS with no penalty. However, one must get married in the specified time frame for the visa (90 days, is it?) or risk deportation.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan I bring my belongings on a K-1
My wife claimed that she couldn't bring any of her things when traveling from Thailand, but I later realized it was a ploy for her to buy all new shoes, handbags and wardrobe.

Joking aside you can bring any, all, or none. The one poster saying that you have ten years is misspoken. You can always bring more possessions from Canada to USA after any length of time.

As you like it.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNVC'S TIME FRAME IS LONG

packet 3 gives you all the information for your medical appointment. You should research what vaccinations you need. There are few for sure, Best be getting started they can take a bit as you can't have them all in one day and there is the hep B series of 3 shots but you can squeak by with 2 if you get the others when you arrive in the USA, Hep A is a 2 shot series, polio, need blood work to prove you had MMR, DTAP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis), Flu shot that is the newest one with 3 different strains meningococcal, pneumococcal. If you have had chicken pox you need to give the year you had them. you will need 3 passport photos 2" X 2" in color, your letter of approval with your new case number on it, a photo copy of the identification page of you passport. you need to check out the requirements for the medical clinic that is USCIS approved for your area. Basically it is a checklist to prepare for medical. When you have done it all you make your appointment. Good luck and get a start on your vaccinations.

This is a fantastic recommendation! I hadn't even thought about doing this before the interview is scheduled. I went to the travel.state.gov site and there is a very long list of vaccinations that are listed as "Required" but it also clearly states that depending on the individual's age, some of them may not be "Required". Is there any way to find out which ones are age appropriate? My fiance does not have a immunization record and will likely have to get all that are "Required" and in the sense of wanting to save some time I'd like to get him started on them as soon as possible. BUT don't want him to get what he doesn't need. That's a lot of shots!!! Ouch!

Thanks I'm going to aggregate all necessary documents and be well equipped for the interview and will keep all documents in to my consideration which was admonished by you I wanted to ask you a question what if it shows up I have hepatitis B whether active or inactive will my interview be effected I don't have any past vaccination I had in my childhood some vaccination but I lost them all I have my past blood test report which shows hepatitis B inactive

Mohsin, I have seen you ask this question a few times. I was hoping to see if anyone has an answer for you as far as Hepatitus B goes. So I thought I would help you out and do a little research. I found this forum: http://britishexpats...ead.php?t=91101 which seems to have some information regarding your question. I hope it helps!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & Procedures6 months since NOA1 plus an RFE - what now?
I recieved an RFE too for my divorce decree (although this was due to my oversight and accidentally sending them the petition by mistake) BUT it has been 2 1/2 weeks since they noted that they had recieved my response. I was getting frustrated because as I look at other's timelines they have a two or three day turnaround until they received their NOA2. So why is mine taking longer? :( No sense in asking the question I guess becasue there is no answer. :(

I also highly recommend doing things to help prove your relationship. For example, send cards in the mail. If you use Skype be sure to capture those calls and print them so you can prove how often you talk. I personally am including my cell phone bills and highlighting his number. Also any record of text messages, instant messages, care packages, anything at all to show that you are in constant contact with each other. I purposely send an e-mail once a week just so I can have this needed and important evidence to prove to them if they ask for it. My rule of thumb is too much is better than not enough. Make every effort to communicate and to capture and save that communication to include in the packet you will take with you to the interview when you go.

Honesty is always the best policy. If you answer every question as honest as you can you should have no issue. Pay very close attention to the requirements at the different stages of the Visa Process and follow the directions as close as you can. If you do that, you should be just fine. If you do end up needing help, this forum is full of exceptionally smart and helpful people who have been through or are going through the same process you are so don't hesitate to ask for direction!

I would include anything and everything. Since I filed for a K-1 also I have to say that ever since I sent that petition in I have been saving every e-mail, every cell phone bill, bank statements that show any money contributed to them and indicating what the reason was for. I have made every effort to send care packages, greeting catrds and I have kept all the shipping reciepts and he plans to include the greeting cards, chat logs. All of it. Every little thing that indicates we thought about each other and interacted with each other as often as possible.

Good Luck!

So I wonder what we are supposed to do when we reach the 5th month - just call our congressman? Cause they can't ignore congressional requests? It seems to not work every time though - I've seen people here calling their congressmen, ombudsmen and god knows who else, and still waiting months after they passed the 5 month mark. And should we just use a congressman without even placing a service requests with the USCIS?
I hope to get ours approved in the next month so I won't have to deal with that craziness!

I just passed my 6 month of waiting and had seen others mention contacting their Congressman and that made me curious so I decided to give it a try and I did call my Congressman. I ended up exchanging e-mails with the "Special Assistant" who was less than friendly and even less helpful. In the end she basically told me that there is NOTHING they can do.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresQuestion ON K-1 APPROVAL
Mohsin,

I also plan to attend the interview with my fiance. He has asked that I come and be with him. I don't think this will have any impact (Besides the fact that I took the extra step and expense to be there) on their decision BUT I will be there with him in case there are any questions that need to be answered from my side.

Keep in mind that even though the Embassy will allow you to go with them, your finace will probably not be allowed in the actual interview with you. She'll probably be asked to wait outside for you. Atleast that is my understanding.

It sounds like you have really done your research and have all the information that is required for evidence and support. I wish you all the best of luck and am eagerly waiting to hear about your experience as there aren't many MEN who go thru the K-1 Visa process in Pakistan so what in regards to AP will happen is very curious to me.

Take Good Care of yourself,
