Mexico, Latin & South AmericaK-1 for my Fiance in Bogota - APPROVED!

Just clicked refresh for the 5,000th time at the USCIS website and it says "post decision activity" and says it was approved and they are mailing me a notice (and more paperwork?).

I have so many thoughts in my head right now.....what should I be doing right now? Looking at the next batch of forms my fiance will need? How long should it be before her interview in Bogota? Does Bogota require the medical exam to be taken in advance (or day of) the interview? Also, is there anything else I can do to help her in the interview...like sending more evidence of the ongoing relationship, or letters from myself and family members?

Any advice would be much appreciated

If there is no RFE, all is good. Your paperwork is forward to NVC. They say it can take up to 15 days. I sent an email to NVC requesting the Bogota case number. I received the email from NVC 9 days after my NOA2 notice. Did the online DS-156 form. Then when I was ready to make the interview appointment, there was a notice of fee changes. As of 13 April, they reduced the visa fee from $350 to to $240, so I waited to the 13th. This morning I pretty much did everything. I went online, payed the visa fee with my credit card. I used an account with my girl's information. Then called Dr. Dennis office in Bogota and made the doctor appointment two days before the embassy interview. Made all the flight reservations. Then made the hotel reservation. The morning of the doctor's appointment, we will go to the lab for lab work and x-ray. In the afternoon, we go to the doctor. Two days later is the embassy appointment. The day after I come back and she goes back to Barranquilla and wait for the visa package. When she gets the package, the next day, she will be on the plane to Miami.

Don't sweat it, but it looks like you need to do a lot of reading, because all that I have said, has been said here in VisaJourney. Read the Bogota reviews, in there you will find a lot of information.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaColombia Passport
I read Glenn & Milena's 2012-03-27 (K1 Visa) Bogota Interview Review:

"...Milena turned to me and say Baby we were approved but I have to send the lady a new passport because my 2010 passport is no good. So yes we got approved and as soon as Milena gets back to Barranquilla she will obtain a new passport (I think they want the one that can be scanned or the photo was not to US standards) they will send the visa. Maybe a two week delay..."

Glenn if you read this, please explain.... or someone can enlighten me or maybe someone else on this subject?

Eilyn's passport was issued on March 2010 and expires March 2020. As far as I read, this passport is good. It does not expire within 6 months of the interview date.

I just hate to get delayed for anything. We want to be married on the 26th of June and we are cutting it close. You see we met on this date back in 2009.

Thanks!

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaMail to Colombia
Here's my experience. USPS - Got items stolen and could not reclaim. DHL - Cost me an arm and a leg to ship something that cost me $35 (payed over $100!!!). I mostly ship using a company that specializes in shipments to Colombia and I never had a problem! I also have used Avianca to ship my package, again no problem, and very quickly. Avianca is the fastest, but they will open your package to see what's inside.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaK1/Como ver si tengo cita programada(Pagina-Embajada Bogota))

Estamos very confundidos.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaWhere to stay in Bogota
We stayed at the Hotel Casa Sarita. The owners own both hotels and the price is the same, about 80,000 COL pesos for two people, full size bed, private bathroom and hot water. Free coffee. They do not accept credit cards; must be in cash. Though, most people end up at the Hotel Casa Paulina, the Hotel Casa Sarita is much newer. We got a small room, but it was nice. The Hotel Casa Sarita is within short walking distance from a shopping center. In the shopping center is a movie theater and Subways. Next to the shopping center is McDonald's and Pizza Hut. There are lots of places to eat, very cheap. There are also clubs for dancing if you wish. We didn't stay out late. We were in early every night. We stayed here at the Hotel Casa Sarita for 8 days and I payed everything in Colombian cash the first day. The exchange rate was 1,820 per dollar.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaDr. Rodolfo José Dennis - Doctor appointment

Thanks for the information. In regards to the timing of the medical appointment, is there a "time limit", or rather a limit of lets say "taking the exams within a week" of your VISA appointment? Or can these be done at anytime during the process? Thanks in advance.

Nothing at all.... Timing is more to how you are going to plan the day. The laboratory is in the far northeast side of Bogota. It's on 8th ST. Well the doctor is at 161th ST. Way out there in the northwest, the doctor I picked that is. I highly recommend that you put a day between the doctor's visit and the embassy appointment. We were burned down after the lab and doctor. Glad that we had a day between to rest and put all the paperwork together before the interview. But I have read here that folks do everything in two days, well, it's up to you. Out medical day started at 6AM and we got back to the hotel late that night. Remember, the lab is only opened from 7-10AM. We went the Friday before, but got there after 1130AM and that's when we found out about the time. Glad that we did this Friday, because Monday we were ready. So you go to the lab... do the blood work and x-ray. They say that the package would get to the doctor sometime after 3pm or 4pm. Our appointment was at 2pm and when I asked the doctor's receptionist if there would be issues if going to the lab that morning and was told no issues. Even the nurse in the lab said there were no issues in having an appointment in the afternoon. Recommend getting the VISA pictures in Colombia (FOTO JAPON). I had Eilyn send me hers and had them done in Walgreens and at the doctor's office didn't like it and we had to rush out and get them. We got to the doctor's place at 10AM and if I knew, we would had gotten those pictures. Oh, well... all done. She had to get shots and apparently, the other ladies also had to get shots. Doctor says.. Stronger Booster shots... When we left the doctor's place, Eilyn had the form DS-3025, a rolled up taped folder, and a green sealed folder. The doctor said, if one leaves with this, you are ready to go. If there were issues, the person will not leave with this paperwork. We found out at the embassy interview that the only thing needed was the sealed green envelope. The rolled up envelope are the X-ray and they were not used during the interview. Basically this was for Eilyn. Again, if you can do the lab in the morning and the doctor in the afternoon and the next day do the interview.... Yes you can!!! Good Luck...

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaDr. Rodolfo José Dennis - Doctor appointment
Sorry, but to be correct, we payed each 1,750 COL pesos each for the ride up on the TransMilenio to the Dr. Rodolfo José Dennis. Total cost for both: 3,500 COL pesos ($1.92 US). Return was the same price. Total price for the whole trip was $3.84 US for using the TransMilenio. Incredible!!! The current exchange rate is at 1,820 COL to the US dollar.
OZ62MaleColombia2012-06-06 10:13:00
Mexico, Latin & South AmericaDr. Rodolfo José Dennis - Doctor appointment
Before we left the Hotel Casa Sarita, the señora Paulina advised us to take theTransMilenio to the doctor's location. The cab ride from the Instituto yLaboratorio Clínico Calle 38 No. 8-28, would be very costly about $50 US dollars. After the lab work and eating a quick breakfast at Subways, we walked several blocks south to the TransMilenio station. We payed each 7,500 COL pesos for the ride up to the Dr. Rodolfo José Dennis place which is located way up north at the Fundación Cardioinfantil. Total cost for both: 15,000 COL pesos ($8.25 US).

- We took the TransMilenio B1 and got off at Calle 161. About a 30 minute ride.

- From the Transmilenio station, one can then take a short cab ride to doctor's place.

- Our appointment was at 2PM. We arrived at Calle 161 at 10AM.

- Since it was really early, we decided to walk and do a little tourist touring.

- When we got to the park on the left hand side, we made a left at Carrera 13B

- After the park, the building, next to it is the place.

- Went inside, made a right towards Tower H. Made a left and at the end was the appointment desk.

- Inside the building is a very nice food court with lots of choices.

- We hung out inside the building, taking pictures and then we walked out to have a look around.

- We sat at the park for a while, then around 1PM we went inside to eat and drink something.

- Approx 1:45 PM, we went to the desk and reported for the appointment.

- Approx 3PM, she was called in. I stayed in the waiting room.

- Approx 4PM, she said that she needed shots and that the passport picture was no good and that we needed to get new ones.

- Noticed three other VISA ladies were there and they ALL were required to take shots.

- Doctor told my fiancée that vaccines were needed for reinforcements (vacunas necesitan refuerzos). Additional cost for 3 shots, 151,100 COL pesos. IMOVAXGRIPE,TETANOS Y DIFTERIA, and SARAMPION. Doctor exam cost was 150,000 COL pesos. Our total cost 301,100 COL pesos and we were out of there with the medical package.Doctor said that if there where issues, especially from the lab work, she would not get a package.

- All ladies were required to completely undress, but my fiancée said that Doctor Dennis was very respectful, but anyway, she did not like the situation. None of the ladies liked it. I originally wanted to get an appointment with the female doctor, but read here in VisaJourney, that she wasn't participating. But my fiancée said that when she was at the laboratory, a lady said that her appointment was with the female doctor, Dra Monica Caicedo. O well...

- After my fiancée got her shots, we had to get a cab ride to get new passport or VISA pictures. We were given a place and address. FOTO JAPON, Calle 140,#18A-70 (Close to Avenida 19).

- Cab cost about 5,000 COL pesos each way. Cost for pictures, 41,000 COL pesos. I wanted 6 pictures, but, each sheet was 4 pictures and had to buy 2 sheets, total 8 pictures and was given a cd.

- Got back to the doctor's place around 5:10PM. My fiancée got her medical package and the DS-3025 in hand and we left the place before it got dark.

- This time we took a cab to the TransMilenio station at Calle 161.

- To go back we were recommended to take the TransMilenio H13 and to get off at Calle 63.

- Glad that we never took a cab, because there was so many traffic jams coming back. Very glad also, the money saved came handy for the required shots.

- We got off at Calle 63, about a 30 minutes ride on the TransMilenio and we then walked to our hotel from there.

Mexico, Latin & South AmericaBOGOTA - DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR VISA K1-K2

Congratulations on your approval.
I have a questions regarding the documents you listed. You mentioned "Recommend that you bring the Certificate of Bautismo." If my fiancé can't find her "Certificate of Bautismo" would a translated birth certificate be enough?
Thanks

y

Eilyn went ahead and got one a couple of months ago. It's easy and was dated 20 March 2012. Address at the bottom of the certificate is: CARRERA 2E # 50 -03 TEL 304-400-4795.

At the top says: ARQUIDIOCESIS DE BARRANQUILLA, PARROQUIA SAN MARTIN DE TOURS, BARRAQUILLA, ATLANTICO - COLOMBIA.

This certificate basically says whether the person ever was married. In Eilyn's case, she never married, so I believe this is why they asked for the certificate.

Thanks. How long does it take for a transcript to arrive after I order one? Also, would they take a tax return I print out myself? I intend to get a letter from my employer too.

Can take anywhere 5 to 10 days. I called IRS because I did not receive it. They FAX it to me, but informed me that FAX is not a secure way to receive this information. Well the mail system is not as good either. Anyone can steal your mail. I told the IRS that I needed the transcripts for the immigration interview. I also got the letter from my job and bank letters (Read the Supporting Evidence instructions for the I-134)(http://www.uscis.gov.../i-134instr.pdf). Have my W-2's going back 3 years. Got copies of my taxes for the past 2 years. I also have copies of my pay stubs going back 2 years. Good luck.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionAbandoning process - Consequences?

I highly recommend that you do not abandon the process.... Who knows what your future may bring? If you entered into bonafide marriage and have the proof, just because things did not work out, doesn't mean you throw in the towel!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsSpanish Language Forums

Hello all and thank you for all the great information and stories you are sharing.

I will be traveling to Bogota to see my fiance in 5 days (keeping every document possible and taking lots of photos in case of RFE) and would really like to introduce her to you all and let her read some stories and get the answer to some of her questions, she's a lot more nervous about everything than I am, and let her know she is not alone.

I have read that there are forums in other languages but cannot seem to find them, can anyone give me directions?

Gracias,

Ron

PS If anyone is going to be in Bogota for the interview the first few days of March we would love to meet you and hear your story.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCan NVC stop the package from being forwarded to the Embassy?

My NOA 2 was done about 2 weeks ago, 1 week ago I called the NVC and they even have issued the BGT number (Bogota Embassy). Today I called to see if the package has been forwarded but to my surprise they said that it was under AP (Additional Processing) and they could not tell me when it would be forwarded.......urrrrr

Can the NVC deny an approved K-1?

Is this normal? What does this mean, AP at the NVC? They conduct another review?

If they (NVC) notices that something is not right with the documents or something else do they return the package to CSC or will I get an RFE?

You can read a possible answer at: http://www.visajourn...he_NVC_ShortCut

Administrative Processing at NVC

The NVC has a process of randomly pulling a certain, unknown number of "K" visa petitions for further administrative processing. It is unknown what exactly takes place during this process. As it is in AP post interview. It may be background/name checks and/or document verification. Some CSR's at NVC have said that they are "verifying documents". But the most common answer will be that "There is no timeframe for the process". There actually is a very predictable timeframe based on VJers experience that has been shared since December 2008. The average time that a case is held during this AP is around 50 days, give or take a day or so. You can call at least once a week to ask if your file has been released out of AP and forwarded to the consulate. Most petitioners that are pulled for random AP DO receive a standard letter from NVC stating that their file will be forwarded to the embassy "within a week", this is a standard letter which is mailed out whether one is in AP or not. If you find that your case has been held at NVC for longer than a week or so; it is advisable to call and ask directly if your file is in AP.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsLetter to Congress
I applied for a fiancée visa last year on October 24th. I-129F NOA1 date is 10-31-2011. Next week, 29th of March, will be 5 months waiting for approval of this application. Seeing applications approved which were submitted after yours is very frustrating. If nothing is received, I intend to call USCIS, then contact my Congressman. Please post a sample letter to congress to ask for intervention.

Thanks!!!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsStill Waiting

I echo the hang in there, I can't even get antsy for 4 more months.

How do you know when you got a "touch"? I hear people talking about this but can't find anyone saying how to find out.

1. Go to: http://www.uscis.gov/portal/site/uscis
2. Enter your Receipt Number
3. Check status
4. If you haven't done so, on the left side, select "Sign-up for case updates"
5. If you have an account, select "Sign-in My Account"

To log in:

Select Type: Customer
Enter User ID:
Enter Password:

Password Requirements
Your Password must be between 8 and 14 characters.
Your Password must contain at least one number, at least one English uppercase character, and at least one English lowercase character.
Your Password cannot contain a dollar ($) sign.
Your Password may not have more than two consecutive identical characters.
Your Password can not be the same as your previous six passwords.
Your Password cannot be the same as your User ID or contain the word "password."
Your Password will expire every 90 days.

The "Last Updated (mm/dd/yyyy)" block will say the date that it was last touched.
This could have been as simple as filing the package or moving it from one location to another.
Doesn't say anything.

Don't forget to set e-mail and cell (mobile) alerts.

Then the agony starts... everyday check the website...
Every day check my cell phone...
Every day when nothing comes in...
Feel the pain...

Today is 146 days since NOA1

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsStill Waiting
March 29th will be 5 months after NOA1. I am, like most, wondering how some are getting their NOA2's in less than 5 months and others are in limbo? Don't have a clue what's going on? It seemed that VSC was getting the NOA2's a littler after 4 months. Now I see some folks getting their NOA2's when they got their NOA1's after me. I want to call to ask, but I am also keeping myself at bay until next Thursday when it's 5 months. Just very depressed that my application was last touched on the 3rd of November and nothing. When would it best to start calling?

Thanks!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNOA2 arrived yesterday! I need help on next steps

Okay, I've been looking over forms, studying, reading the message forums for about hours today and last night. I feel like I'm getting a better grasp of some things...but i'm getting more and more confused on others.

According to the VJ K-1 Flow Chart, about 1 week after the Bogota Consulate receives the K-1 packet they will send my fiance a packet that has a "checklist of items and paperwork". Then it says because the mail in Bogota is inefficient so they will send a link to all of these forms and information. I assume they will send this link to me? I don't recall if we ever gave them my fiancee's email address. It says this will be all the information in the packet:

Open appointment letter
DS-156
DS-156K (if for fiancé(e))
Information about photos (need for interview and medical exam)
LIST OF DOCUMENTS to be taken to interview
VISA FEE INFORMATION
INSTRUCTIONS FOR MEDICAL EXAMINATIONS

So do we just sit back and wait for this info before she can actually start doing anything? I assume she can start preliminarily gathering some things...like Birth Certificate, taking more passport fotos, etc. What else could she be doing right now?

I think I'm fairly well prepared for the things I need to send her. I have my past tax forms and I have old check stubs. Aside from getting a letter from my work, I should be able to put the I-134 together right now. My fiancee already has the complete copy of the original I-129F packet with photos, evidence, etc. It looks like I just need to gather some more evidence to prove we are still in a relationship. After that I should be good to send her everything. I noticed it says to send "all originals"...is this really necessary? They need my actual plane boarding passes, etc. not photocopies?

Is there anything else I/we should be doing right now? Should I have my fiancee talk to her doctors to see what vaccinations she's had, etc. or should we just wait for the packet?

Sorry for the long message....doing this stuff just turns my head into a big ball of stress.

http://bogota.usemba...pt-package.html

Need to read the instructions for the I-134. Under Supporting Evidence: You need letter or letters from bank or banks, to state date account opened, total amount deposited for the past year, and present balance. I had to pay for my Bank of America's letter.

Also, letter from employer to state date and nature of employment, salary paid, and whether the position is temporary or permanent.
