Asia: SouthPacket 3 Question
I have never posted anything on VJ before, but browse the forums frequently. Everyone is wonderful in sharing useful info. & helping others. Thanks Everyone!!

We submitted our Packet 3 (K3) on 2/13/08 at Mumbai Consulate at the counter. We called DOS today (2/25/08) only to find out that they are not showing Packet 3 in their system as having been received....Dept Of State rep. asked us to wait one more week as it may take up to 3 weeks.

We are concerned that there is some sort of problem because our Packet 3 hasn't been entered. Is the "entering" time normal? Anyone going thru Mumbai have a similar experience? Should we be concerned?

Any advice?

Asia: Southwhen will i get my interview date...
HI Sunny & neetu, I know this is somewhat inconvienient, but have your wife go back to the embassy & talk to them, re-submit if necessary. Stay on top of them. The same thing happened to us. We waited for one month for an interview date, then my husband went back to the Mumbai embassy to investigate & they advised him that they had "lost" P3. They entered it as "received" right in front of him & we received an interview date the next day. But, we lost 1 whole month over their mistake. So stay on top of them. Have you tried emailing them?

HI Sunny & neetu, Have u confirmed with the Dept of State that you, in fact, haven't received an Interview date yet? I have heard that Delhi is fairly prompt in issuing interview dates. What did they tell your wife at the embassy?

Asia: SouthVISA APPROVED IN MUMBAI
HI Shreyans,

Thanks for your wishes!

I wish you the best on June 6th. I'm happy that you were able to successfully get an interview date. I will pray that you get your visa just as quickly.

As for some tips, my husband said that the interview was very simple & the consular officer was very professional, polite, and nice. My advice would be to read up on the embassy reviews where fellow VJers have posted their experiences on the interview date. That is what helped us prepare & get an accurate idea. I would recommend being very prepared with proof of relationship. There were no out of the ordinary demands or occurences. If you have what they've requested on their Packet3/4 lists, you will be all set. Make sure you take some phone logs, emails, and pics with you if you haven't submitted them to the VFS office already. That is what they asked my hubby for.....But they looked at nothing else we submitted. Not even the Affidavit of Support. My hubby had already submitted emails through the Ahmedabaad VFS Office, so they only asked for phone logs & pics. Even the pics, they simply glanced over.

By husband didn't even have to request to pick up passport the same day. They simply gave him a receipt to show for at 5:30pm at the VFS office to pick up Visa the same day.

I feel like we were worried and stressed for no reason at all. Mumbai's experience was surely excellent. I will post my complete experience soon.

Once again, Let me know if you have additional questions/concerns. I will be glad to help! kicking.gif kicking.gif

Good Luck & God Bless Shreyans!

Asia: SouthCertified Copy
HI anish and lijy,

Certified copies mean that the copies have to be issued from the original issuing agency. In India, even though notaries have more power, notarized copies are still different from certified copies. Certified copies usually bare the seal of the issuing agency, not the usual notary seal. I have read many posts on the Asia:South forum where the NVC has not accepted notarized copies & have sent RFEs for Certified copies.

Same question from me as well!

How do you find out if Mumbai US consulate received the application from NVC?

QUOTE (sunny & neetu @ Mar 27 2008, 08:34 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
hi shreyans, i see from your timeline that your case has been received by the embassy. how did you find this information? did you contact the embassy or did the embassy sent something to your spouse? congratulations on your progress though... good.gif

and new delhi's website doesn't has a packet 3 to download. do i have to wait for them to send the packet 3 or can i just take that DS 230 and submit it at delhi.

Sunny & Neetu, You can call D.O.State to find out your case status. As soon as ur case goes from NVC to embassy & the embassy receives it, the D.O.State will have updated information for you. Call (202) 663-1225. Dial Option 1, then 0 to speak to a visa specialist.

HI Shreyans,

The lady @ the counter @ Mumbai embassy took the following from us:

1. DS 230 Part I
2. Applicant Statement/Packet 3 Checklist pdf
3. Passport Copy
4. Passport sized Photos

You should verify with the D.O.S that the embassy in fact has received your case.

The Mumbai Consulate website is a great resource!
Browse through the Immigrant and Non-Immigrant Visa sections... Very beneficial.

The faster you send it back, the faster you'll receive your Interview date. I'm not sure what embassy you're going with, but that was surely the case with Mumbai Office.

Email them. They have their email address posted on their website to contact them.
In the subject line, indicate "Appointment Letter."
Some folks on VJ have had positive response through this technique. :-)

I found my case status by calling Dept of State @ 202-663-1225. Call them & give them your case #. Call them like 2-3 business days after your Packet 3 is physically received at embassy.

If this phone # doesn't work, Please let me know! If you know they're received your Packet 3 & they don't have your status updated as received P3 after 2 weeks resubmit the packet. It doesn't take more than 1 week for them to process P3. We've experienced this first hand. :-) They actually lost our filing & we ended up delaying our process by over 1 month.

DOS saying my packet 4 has been sent to me on 6th august but i have not yet received it ;now what to do ??? can you tell me from where i should personally go and collect it???

You can collect it at the consulate window, but you can also download everything from their website. I think I had posted the link ?? You don't need to go there physically.

Don't wait for Packet 4 to come in the mail. Just go on Mumbai Consulate Website, Get the Packet 4 Instructions, & Begin working on it... We made the mistake of waiting for it & it never came.

its advisable that if you are doing this in India, goto one of the local travel agents and ask them to refer you to someone who has experience with doing this kind of immigration work.

they'll type up everything, send your documents, reserve your tickets, etc. etc. etc. with out any guess work for nominal 1-3000 rs.

Thanks, but does anyone know the answer to my question?

No, It's not necessary. They gave the checklist back to my husband at the embassy window when he tried to submit it...
You just need to sign & return the last page of the checklist (Applicant Statement).

Shreyans, I would go by what the Dept. of State is telling you. We had the same experience & we received false info. from Consulate as well. Dept of State systems are updated on a daily basis. DOS was life saver for us because they always gave us accurate and updated info. You see, everytime the embassy updates your case in their system, it is updated to the DOS. So, they are giving you factual info. The rep at the consulate told us that they have no way of checking case status unless you go to the info. counter. Did you call them? Because if you did, they don't have any idea....

However, if you are positive that the embassy has your case, then don't wait for them to do anything further. Simply send in your packet 3. Even if they send it, you will never receive it. I'm sorry for being pessimistic, but we've gone through a challenging time with all this when the consulate lost our Packet 3 that we had submitted. smile.gif

Hang In there & let me know if you have more questions.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurespacket 3&4, for k3 visa
HI Shreyans/Sweety10,

Calling the embassy (consulate abroad) is useless. The wait times are impossible. Call the Dept. of State @ 202-663-1225, then dial Option 1 for visa services, & then 0 to speak to a specialist. The reps @ the D.O.State can help you with your case status. This is ALOT easier then calling the embassy. By case status I mean whether your Packet 3 has been received, Interview date been set, if the case has been transferred from NVC to embassy, date packet 3/4 sent, etc. They cannot provide info. specific in nature for each embassy, but they can provide current case status. I was able to find out my interview 3 days after it was set & Packet 4 was sent.....

By the way, D.O.S does have long wait times sometimes as well, but they don't hang up on you & you will surely get a rep to speak to....They do try to help as much as they can. The longest I have waited is 15 min.

Hope this helps. smile.gif

Yes, We didn't receive Packet 3 or Packet 4 either. The info. is definately not customized. They are forms you can simply download off the embassy website. The only thing customized is your interview/appointment letter in Packet 4. However, that letter can be obtained in person at the information counter in Mumbai.

I do recommend to stay on top of them at the Mumbai Embassy by calling the Dept. Of State for case status. They lost our packet & delayed things somewhat.

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & Procedurespacket 3&4, for k3 visa
HI laurarajesh,

I'll try & answer ur questions as much as I know:

1. Yes, you can print DS 230 from embassy's website & submit. But, call the Dept. Of State and be certain that the embassy has case. Also check the embassy website for any other docs they require w/ DS 230. (We submitted applicant stmt. & some other things).

2. Embassy does not assign any specific #s. Use the case # that the NVC assigns. (We are going through Mumbai, so our # starts w/ "BMB.") The # assigned by NVC is now ur reference.

3. Yes, after u submit DS 230, u submit the remaining docs from checklist & Yes, you can submit them at the VFS Office. Delhi & Mumbai both allow this...But, you have to wait for your interview date to be set by embassy before you can submit.

4. Medical & PCCs are Packet 4 (To be submitted @ VFS after receipt of Interview date). I don't know about Delhi's Packet 3, but in Mumbai we submitted DS 230, Applicant stmt., Passport copy (Notorized), & passport sized photos directly at counter. I can't imagine that the embassies' requirements are too much different from each other.

5. Yes, that is the timeline. Our interview date was set one day after after Packet 3 was "received" by Mumbai in their system. (Take a peak @ my timeline).

6. The medical is about 2-4 day process. The PCCs takes longer. Matter of fact, you need your interview letter (rec. in Packet 4) to take the medical. You also need proof of interview or something from embassy for the PCC. (Our PCC procedures may be different if 2 different Indian states are in question). By the way, they are NOT part of Pkt. 3. They are to be submitted to VFS office after your date is set.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have more questions. smile.gif

K-3 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresPacket 4 is mailed via regular mail?
HI Sweety10, The embassy sends the Packet 4 through regular mail. If it gets lost, you can pick up @ counter from embassy. You can download almost all the applications, etc. from the embassy website, but you will need to obtain your interview letter (enclosed in Packet 4). You need the Interview letter for the medical, PCC, etc. You can also email the embassy & they can send you the interview letter that way....

Hope that helps. smile.gif
