there really doesnt have to be much confusion, the website is pretty clear:

18-64 years

DTP (Diphteria, Tetanus and Polio) --> get it from the pharmacy and go to your dr BEFORE the appointment with the Embassy's dr! Then get refunded.
BMR (Mumps (Bof), Measles and Rubella) --> if born after 1956 (if administered before 12 months of age, repeat dose)

Its 11 euros and maybe in the future in the USA I need it. If not..then at least no delays in the process cuz of that good.gif

crying.gif I'm from 1964 and will need all vaccinations redone.
Marieke, do you still have a list of all vaccinations needed?
I will have them done at my 'huisarts'
Need to spread my costs over the coming months. So I was thinking to do them in a month or two, if I can find out which ones I need .

http://www.visajourn...-Netherland.htm check here. I might have still some papers at home, from what i got from the embassy. I'll check later.

Thanks Marieke! I'll head for your blog next....I do have a couple more questions though....

Did they even look at your vaccination records? And was the DPT shot the only one they "require"? And last one for now...hehe...did you have to have an xray taken?

The dr did yes. Or his assistent. I came in and she asked for all the papers. She saw that my dr marked DTP with the recent date on my vaccine card and said; oh i see you had this done, perfect! Have a seat!

=) So easy. She sent me to the xray place first as they were running late. That was easy too. Waited for 15 mins or so and had the xray, paid 50 euros and on my way back to the dr. Then was seen to straight away. Took blood, did little tests, asked questions and paid. It was weird, my xray appointments was at noon, but i was so fast that i arrived and the train station at noon...

Really its no hassle. Once you send back packet 3 things get easy. a little stress alwasys for dr's results and an interview but not much can go wrong.

EDIT: its okay liz, i dont mind answering.

And Dutchie moving to near Texas...Oklahoma LOL. Must be the Southwestern charm taking us by storm eh!

Hey, if you need jobs and want to stay relatively close, you could do worse than to look at Tulsa. We're 6 hours drive North of Dallas. Our stats say we get 113% of the national average wage with only 75% of the national average living costs. It's a great place to be and unemployment is currently only at 2% with a boatload of jobs available. I guess no one likes Oklahoma, but it really is great living. no different from how I experienced Dallas, really.

We recently drove through OK to get to Wichita, KS. Its really pretty to me, all that space! We made some great photo's. But eventhough Texas is so big and empty too, i think i like it more. But its what you know, what you are used to.
We are applying at the big cities here in Texas, but also Portland, OR, some suburbs 30 mins from Chicago and some places on the east coast. Im sad, excited and nervous! March 6th is the closing date for people who want to resign. Last i heard 40 people did, but we need 220... As for me, i need 6 secretaries to resign for me to keep my job. Plus i doubt i will be eligable for unemployment as they can just 'not extend my contract'. Welcome to Texas!! Oh and hurricane season starts in 3 months!

Morning all...TGIF!!

ArubaDolphin....Congrats on your interview date!!!! Keep us posted please!!!

Marieke...would you be willing to share the experience you had at your interview in Amsterdam? And also, what was needed for Packet 3? Was there a Packet 4 for that consulate?

Peet - Hope your feeling better!!!

Jeanine - How about you? Doing ok??

Anyone heard from Nikki lately?

I put a link of my blog in the post above. Regarding Packet 3: this packet contains forms you need to fill in and sent back to the embassy. I believe they are also available online but you need to make sure they are the right date.

DS-230 (Part I)
DS-156 (2x)
DS-156k (not signed) --> you sign it at the embassy
Checklist (DS-2001), to be sent back when all requirements are met
Above documents need to be completed and sent back to Consulate asap!

DS2000, Public Charge Evidence
I-134, Affadavit of Support

Vaccination requirements
Photo instructions

To obtain an interview, you return DS-230 Part I and DS-2001.

Packet 4:
When i recieved Packet 4 it gave me the phone numbers and a map of Dr. Schulte and of the Jan van Goyen Clinic in Amsterdam. You need to first call the dr. and then the clinic. So i got my appointments and filled in part of the forms (DS-2053 DS-3024 DS-3025 DS-3026) that were in the packet too. Its not much and they explain it well, just your info and passport number. And last but not LEAST: Packet 4 also contains your interview date!!!

Note: check with your own dr if he can do the DTP shots for you. Its much cheaper or free if your insurance covers it! I went and bought it at the pharmacy (19,50 euros) and went to my dr and done! insurance covered it.

Let me know if you have more Q's!

Im also curious of what we can prepare for the next step now, even tho we didnt receive NOA2...Marieke is our help lol. The only one who went through most of the process already.
Marieke did you get ur AP already? I think i saw in your timeline that you filed for that right? When can you file for that? Is it possible to do that as soon as i enter the US on my K1 visa or do i have to wait until we are married? My grandma isnt doing so good and is in a nursing home, but if anything happens at home i want to be able to come back. But i know you can only enter the US one time with a K1 visa....

Its so nice we all stay in touch here!

Jeanine star_smile.gif

I am so sorry guys! I had mardi gras here in Galveston! it was so great to see everybody in the party mode! the island really needed it!!

Okay to answer some Q's!

I need to amend my timeline. I did file for AP in case my greencard wouldnt arrive on time for my flight in Dec. I had booked a flight in may and was waiting for my GC still at the time. It all worked out and i believe i cancelled it. When i get home i can find the paperwork. i think you have to wait till you get married. then you file AOS EAD and AP. $$$!!!

My interview... so easy! On my blog i tell a little: http://from-marieke-...01_archive.html All i can say is make sure they have you sign all the papers. And eventhough i booked the flight before i had my interview (big no-no) i do not reccomend it. Its stressy. And too risky.

I am sorry to hear about your grandma. I know what you mean. My grandad is 93 and not doing to good. Its one of those things, if something happens, should i go back? Would you?

Well, if you are ever down this way let me know and maybe we can have lunch!! Aww, sorry to hear about your job!! What kind of work are you looking for?

It is hard, but it's been worth every minute of misery that being apart causes! I went through a horrible first marriage and wasn't expecting to find anyone but I know now that I had to go through the bad to get to the good! Patrick is the most wonderful, amazing man I've ever known and I can't wait to start my life here in the States with him!! I'm hoping that it will go pretty fast now and before I know it he will be here to stay! I've got things to concentrate on to keep myself busy...we bought a do-it-yourself kit of wedding invitations while he was here so I can start getting the wording for those figured out and get our invitation list done too. It'll mostly be my family and some of our friends and even some friends from NL so I can't wait to be able to send them out!!!

I am a school secretary at a middle school. My husband is an art teacher at the high school. Ike wiped out the other middle school so they are now cramped in with us.. we will be together from now on, meaning they need to cut half the office staff. This is my first year so im in trouble. Plus maybe it isnt so bad to move now, Galveston really isnt what it was and it looks like its going to take a long time before things are at a normal rate. Neither of us have ties here.

I am glad you found your man. It can happen any moment any time for anyone. Life's great! I was leading my simple single life in London and all of a sudden i am ina visa process with a texan! Texas of all places! I think its funny there are so many Texans on this subforum! And texans-to-be!

Great to be here, the other thread was so old and busy that i never really joined. Got to go to the gym! Back later!

Its been a year yes... but I pretty much had all of my stuff together. I lived in london for 5 years, so i had to get a police record for that country too, which took some time. I believe the Dutch Embassy takes care of that for you! How lief! But you can remind me about some things you need to get together and i'll remember! =)

There is link in the bottom of my post. It goes to my blog, if you go to Nov 2007, the first time i posted, you will find some of my experiences with the embassy. By then i have already recieved my NOA2, i believe.

Hey Marieke its not worth clobbering yourself on the head over it  This is a long process and you don't need to give yourself a headache over it!

Point of clarification...

The US Embassy has nothing to do with the visa issuance process... Visas to come to the USA are processed at U.S. Consulates, which in many countries, just happen to be attached to the Embassy...

Hi, the Dutch Embassy has nothing to do with this process. The U.S. Embassy is where you would be interviewing. But yes you could interview at the U.S. Embassy in London if you are a resident there. You should ask the U.S. Embassy in London if there would be any reason they would choose not to process your K-1 Visa there. Tell them you live in London, but don't mention that you are thinking of going back to Holland to live.

Also make sure that the U.S. Embassy that you choose actually does Visa processing, cause not all of them do.
This is what my Fiancee is doing as she is from Latvia but interviewing in Cyprus.

Good Luck!

I would not delay, there may well be tax advantages. Until you leave you need it to remain in status.

Your correct on that - I should of said one of the conditions... Thanks for keeping me on my toes.

However, I never suggested they could not leave without doing the ROC -

I was giving the OP options to help maintain their GC, and leave the US, since they said - not doing the ROC will abandon it.

I thought perhaps the OP wasn't sure in their intentions, subsequent posts shows they are.

When i said 'i dont wish to abandon it' i meant, i am not trying to just up and leave. Abandon the GC. I was clear in that i 'had no intent of coming back'

Either way, i found my answer.

It seems pretty straight forward, but a couple of last questions; when should i sent it back? couple weeks before leaving the country?

Forms

You will need to complete the yellow-highlighted sections in form I-407 [PDF 624Kb], "Abandonment of Lawful Permanent Residence". Please note that this is a Form-Fill PDF format that allows you to type in the information prior to printing.

Supporting Documentation

Please return the following items to the address below:

* Completed I-407
o Note 1: Item 6(a) - Be sure to state your reasons for abandoning your permanent resident status;
o Note 2: Item 6(d) - Do not write anything in this block.
* Permanent Resident Card (I-551)
o Note 3: If you don't have your permanent resident card (lost/stolen/misplaced), please explain in 6(B).
* Your Permit to Re-Enter (I-327) (only if applicable)
* G-28 - Notice of Entry of Appearance as Attorney or Representative (only if applicable)
* A stamped, self-addressed envelope ( Note: If more than one application is submitted from one family, you only need to provide one envelope)

Special Note: Do not submit United States Social Security cards to this office. Contact the U.S. Embassy Federal Benefits Unit for information on the return of social security cards.
Mailing Address

USCIS I-407
American Embassy
P.O. Box 2444
London W1A 5WT

Once the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services office receives your completed Form I-407 and your Permanent Resident Card, the appropriate documentation stamps will be placed on the form along with the USCIS officer's signature. A copy of this form will be returned to you in the stamped, self-address envelope you provide. This copy of the completed I-407 is your receipt and it validates the return of your Permanent Resident Card. You should keep a copy of the completed I-407 with your passport when you travel to the United States. I don't have to 'hand it in at the border' as previously stated. :) But I need to keep his form with my passport at any time i travel to the US in the future?

Abandoning your Permanent Resident Card and status does not affect your ability to apply to immigrate to the United States at some future time. However, you will have to begin the process anew and apply through the usual application process.

We'll see what the future hold but its Home for now.. :jest:

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMoving to homecountry

ANY greencard is dependant on maintaning residency and is not any different between a 2yr or a 10 yr card. A 2 yr card is "conditional" based on a bonafide marriage relationship. The OP does not wish to maintain his greencard.. he can leave anytime he wants.. ROC is not needed for him based on stated intentions

Thank you. I didn't think it would be this difficult ! :)

I got my answer somewhere else. I need to fill in this form:

http://www.usembassy...is/abandon.html
mariekeFemaleNetherlands2010-01-07 10:51:00
Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMoving to homecountry

If you do not maintain your US residency, you are abandoning your GC status. If you leave prior to removing conditions, you are abandoning your GC.

Your in a precarious position - your 2yr card is dependent on you staying in the US during that time (not withstanding vacations outside the US of course) - but the idea is maintain an US residence.

If you had the 10yr green card, and left the US for more than a year, you would need to fill out paperwork notifying USCIS of that fact. Going over a year, without this, can pull your GC.

So I would suggest you wait till you remove conditions, then file the proper paperwork to leave the US for an extended time without endangering your GC status.

However, if you wish to walk away from the GC, you just can turn it in at the border.

Meaning i pay the $500 fee (or whatever it is now) and then leave right after? Before receiving my GC?

We have no intention to live in the states again, why would i want to do it the way you say it.

This is interesting. I figured it wouldn't matter since i want to move to europe.
mariekeFemaleNetherlands2010-01-07 10:36:00
Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionMoving to homecountry

You need to file form I-751 for ROC. However, to maintain your residency in the US, you should continue living in the US. USCIS could say that you have abandoned your residency if you say too long outside of the country. I suggest you wait on Holland/Europe immigration and wait until you get USC (which is after 3 years) then you are free to do whatever you want.

I realize that you were in a difficult situation and that is why you decided to go outside the country, but obtaining residency has its rules and people need to stick to them.

There is a great wealth of information on this forum, so spend some time on it and see all the requirements.

I don't wish to maintain my US residency. I don't wish to abandon it, just want to discontinue with no intent of coming back. This was always temporary. But because i am not able to find a job and my benefits are running out, we need to leave. Want to leave.

I have been unemployed since June 08 after layoffs due to Hurricane Ike. I am not able to find a job, so we decided (amongst other reasons) to move back to the Netherlands in May.
I am supposed to file to remove conditions in April, because my 2yr GC expires in July.

What do i need to do with USCIS. Just call and notify?

Also does anyone know a good forum on immigrating to Holland/Europe for my husband, as he will now go through the same process.

Thanks!

I have maybe a dumb question..but you guys mean if your fiance comes to the usa to visit..I am going to Amsterdam to see him..Will I need all that proof or is it just when they come to the usa??

no you dont need it, as you are filing for a visa where the fiance moves to the US. you are not moving to holland. they are afraid he would stay if he came to visit you.

Can anyone tell me if I can still visit my fiance in the US (or can he come to the UK) once the I-129F has been received by the USCIS Service Centre in Nebraska or must we wait until the whole Visa process is complete?

i have also read somewhere that a letter from the USC stating you are coming over to plan the wedding is something valid/helpful..
maybe someone else can tell you (and me!) more about that.

im flying to TX in June, we have just filed for the K1. i have posted the same question and got some good advise. show you have a return ticket, any ties that show you have house/rent, work. i am also bringing the ticket of my SO for when he is coming in July and my boss is writing a letter for me. my problem is that i have a live-in job, i have no bills at all . (which is nice but not in this case) so i bring my contract where it show my live-in status.
it is always a risk, but one im willing to take!
