PhilippinesWedding Tips
Thank you so much guys! I was really happy planning my wedding & by the time i was finished, i felt i can be wedding coordinator, lol! I so wanted everything different & my motto was "think outside of the box" & "cheap but elegant"!! LOL So i figured maybe i can give advice to all the bride-to-bes & wish they will enjoy the planning as much as i did.

Here are the valuable ideas ideas i want to share.

1.) All brides have a VISION of what their wedding will look like. Choose a theme that you want, put it in paper, cut out pictures from the magazine & print photos you saw from the internet. This way you will remain focus with what you really want. Family & friends sometimes gets too excited & they try to push you with what THEY want.

2.) Weddings can be expensive if you are not careful with your spending. Have a list of things you need & write your corresponding budget. You have Audio/Video, Cake, Caterers/Food & Beverage, Sound System, Florists, Wedding Gown, Grooms Wear, Entourage Clothes, Hair & Make-up, Invitations, Venue & Accomodation, Shoes & Jewelries, Souvenirs, Transportation, Wedding Rings, Pastor. You might like to get a quartet or a band who will set the mood but this will also affect your head count. There's the fireworks too if you want a memorable evening. jest.gif

3.) Invite only those who are close to you. You'll be paying for their food! My own wedding was in Zambales which is 5hrs from Manila & its on a Saturday afternoon. I have to transport all guests by Friday night & provide them food & accomodation for 3 days!!! Since i'm in a budget, it was sooooo hard to choose who needs to come. huh.gif

4.) If you want to get a coordinator, make sure you have checked her work. Talk to her previous clients. She will either give you your dream wedding or your nightmare. Fyi, there are on-the-date-itself wedding coordinator (i'm sorry i forgot what they are called, hehe!). They charge less than the regular events coordinator.

Research, research, research! Make use of your friends & family, they are your networks & they are their to help you (i hope!!! lol).

If you have more suggestions, share it with us please!

Is it correct to say that once case is completed at NVC, we will be notified by them? And via what method? Email? Snail mail? If we get it thru email, will we be told in that email as to when our interview will be? We could go for the medical already, can we? And can we pay for Delbros verification already or do we need to wait till USEM gets our papers?

We want to be prepared for this eventuality. Your input will be of big help, as it has always been smile.gif

You will be notified by nVC thru snail mail.we got 2 snail mails from them where they will give you your manila case number. as soon as you got the snail mail from them you can pay your dv right away so that you will not have problem during your interview date on getting white slip. The earlier you pay the better i suggest you pay your DV 1 month or more than a month before your interview.. They won't email you. instead you/fiance can call NVC hotline and ask them if theya lready processed you packet if yes ask for your case number then u can start paying your DV.They won't tell you when your interview date is. there are 2 options, wait for the US embassy appointment letter or you call the embassy hotline and get your appointment letter where they will send on ur e-email add. Before calling embassy hotline you should call the embassy telephone to clarrify if they got your packet coz calling embassy hotline will cost you much. Once the embassy will tell u they got your packet. then u call thier hotline and get ur interview appointment. there's no need to wait for your appointment letter from the embassy. One u got your MNL case number you can have your medical right away, medical expiration will be 6 months from the first day u had your medical exams.be sure to go there healthy, no cough,no colds. gudluck and God bless you.
PS there's no need to wait for the embassy to get your papers..pay your dv right away after you got your MNL case number. NVC will send it to your husband.

when you go for medical without your appointment letter you can show them your NVC letter or NOA2.

Hi all!!! I'm also at the end of my NVC journey (CR1) & i want to know what's the next step for me.

Here are my questions:
1.) What is a DV??! (Sorry i'm just too lazy to look what it means, hehe!) And where am i going to pay this DV??
2.) "One u got your MNL case number you can have your medical right away.." Is this the same case number given by NVC??!
3.) What is a Delbros??
4.) Do you know of any post-NVC guides/guidelines??

Thanks!!!!

Guys i just want to know, once my case is approved what are my next steps?? I read you have to pay the DV. Where??? How much?? Also, how much is the medical?? Do i have to get all the injections? I haven't had smallpox, chickenpox yet. Does NVC give you notice what to do next?? I just want to prepare ahead. The waiting suuuuucks!!!! lol

Thanks!!!!

If you already have a case number, the ff: links would be useful:

http://travel.state..../info_1335.html
http://manila.usemba...v/wwwh3238.html

Eventually, NVC through the embassy will send you your appointment letter as well as further instructions on what to do next including your medical.

DV is P650 payable at Metrobank. Since the DV is a controversial issue nowadays as it seems to be waived for the meantime, I strongly suggest that you do a search on DVs in this sub-forum.

The medical exam costs is the peso equivalent of $213.35 at the current exchange rate.

The vaccines required depend on the medical examiner's evaluation. Some will be done in SLEC and some will be in the US. Your payment already includes the vaccination costs.

Got it!!!! Thank you Jose Rizal! You are truly a hero!!! kicking.gif

I asked them it must be our DS-230 which we mailed Oct. 11 & the bwisit operator won't confirm!!! I told her why the secrecy?! You want me to wait 2-4 weeks again just to know if it's my DS-230?!!! & she said i'm sorry ma'am blah, blah, blah!!! By this time of course my BP is high! Grrrr...!!! PhilippinesWedding Favors (Giveaways)
Hello again Riza! I just want to know what is the theme of your wedding. Will it be a church wedding?? How about the reception? There are a lot of ideas out there and it is important that you have a theme. Put it in paper, have cutouts from a magazine. These will be your guide in buying your supplies so you will remain focus. Plus, everything in your wedding look put-together! Cost was every impt to me when i was planning my wedding so whenever there's an expo (or an exhibit), i'm there. I got my video/photo 15% less than the original cost. Try to search for wedding expos in the area where your getting married.

I want to share some valuable tips for you. Invest in:
1.) An experienced photographer. Your wedding picture will either haunt you or make you happy. In most cases, couples book a well-known studio and just check their sample albums. But they never ask who were the photographers who took the shots. Remember, a studio has several photographers. You must book the photographer of the album you like.
2.) Make-up artist. Always have a test make-up (even if you have to pay it!). You must look great in the photos! If the artist doesn't want it, find others.
3.) The ring. Its forever.
4.) Wedding gown. I had this included because some brides doesn't think this is worth spending but for me, it is. I want it to be special for i can pass it on to my kids. They can also modernize it (which i don't mind).

Always remember to be creative. Work on your channels! Friends of friends are a big help. You never know, they might know someone who owns bakery, a studio, a florist, a band or a hotel!! You can get big big discounts!

Congratulations Riza!!!! biggrin.gif

PhilippinesWedding Favors (Giveaways)
Hi Riza!!!! I love weddings!!! I had my dream beach wedding last Feb. It was beautiful! I had everybody wearing white. I wanted it to be very Filipino so everything must be native! I purchased 20 bottles of fish sauce and used the bottles for my invitation. Of course i had it cleaned up first para nde mangamoy! The price of the empty bottles in Divi is P10 each for 100pcs. Sa patis P8 lang plus may patis ka pa!! I had it filled with sand and have my invitation inside ala message in a bottle. The bottle had our monogram & date & name of the resort.

For my giveaways, i had wood photo frames. I ordered from a local frame gallery and i got my giveaways for only P20 each (3R size)! Its cheap but it doesn't look like one! Plus it's also very useful! I suggest you wrap the giveaways in a supot (usually used when buying pandesal, you can buy it in divisoria in rolls) and tie it with rafia together with your monogram or thank you card. Very different and very Filipino!!

Just be creative. You can save an awful lot of money if you make it yourself. biggrin.gif

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresBest way to mail papers from Philippines to NVC
Your wife can gather all the necessary requirements while you're still in the US so when you get the bar coded cover sheet and you arrive here, you can send the DS-230 via FEDEX asap.

My husband and i are also waiting for the IV invoice and while we're killing time, i have my passport photocopied, got my certified copy of birth and marriage certificate from NSO (National Statistics Office), got my police & NBI clearance & got my 2 passport size photos. I have also downloaded the DS-230 Forms and alrdy answered it & signed it.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresMY DS-230 CHECKLIST
Hi all!!! I'm also gathering all requirements for my DS-230. What i have are these:

1. NSO birth certificate
2. NSO marriage certificate
3. Photocopy of biographic page of passport
4. Police & NBI clearance in married name
5. 2pcs 2x2 visa photos (white background with case #, my name & birthdate at the back)
6. DS-230 form

In #20, the form didnt say we have to send police clearance of all the places we had lived since 16 y/o, right?? I am from Bacolod originally & just transferred to Makati for college & lived here since so this #20 + police clearance is making me nervous, hehe! I really hope i don't have to go to Bacolod!!

Well anyway, i have sealed my envelope & will send the package to my hubby now. Once he receives the IV receipt (& barcode), he can mail the package to NVC asap.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresDS 3032 online from NVC site, can it still be used?
Shpat_Arqjira is right.

When NVC said they're going to send the AOS bill, i asked my husband rightaway to download the I-864 form and answer it! He also gathered all required documents (3 yrs IRS tax transcripts, employment letter & pay stubs). That way, no time is wasted. I also emailed them my Choice of Agent, who is my husband, and got a response a second after. When i got the original copy of the DS-3032, i called NVC and they said there's no need for me to send the original copy since they alrdy received my email.

Once they got your DS-3032 or Choice of Agent, they will mail the IV Bill to your agent (in my case,my husband). Start downloading the DS-230 form and gather all the necessary requirements (2 passport size photo 2x2 with white background, NSO Birth & Marriage Certificate, Police Clearance & photocopy of your passport's biographic data). Once you have all these, send it out to your husband. NVC will send the Bar Coded Sheet to your husband once he paid the IV Bill. He can then send the DS-230 package asap.

Loto's NVC guide is very helpful. Try to download it. It's complete with letter format for NVC.

Good luck! smile.gif

Yes, you can email it. I used gmail account since its faster (& a fellow vj advised it). I also asked NVC if its alright to send the email & not the actual form (which i received a week after) and they said its okay. They sent the IV fee to my husband a week after.

Let me know how your case goes... we were approved about the same time so we should both be very close in this.

You do not need the hard copy. You can just send the e-mail. Then you do not need to make any barcodes.

We received the hard copy about a week after our Choice of Agent was accepted. It took about 10 days for them to accept our Choice of agent.
