National Visa Center (Dept of State)February Filers Goin To NVC

I decided to start this topic so february filers can track progress of other february filers with the NVC status. I was approved on May 9, but i'm sure it hasn't been sent yet. I hear your supposed to wait 2 weeks before U call. Anyone else hear anything??? :dance:

A new topic and some familiar names, along with some new ones! :star:

I guess I need to read up on the NVC process, as well as the medical and interview phases.... :reading:

All this before I get the "Official" NOA2 notice from CSC :lol:

I did get a touch on May 10 and a second one on May 11, since the folks at CSC said that we were approved as of May 10, my guess is that the touch on May 11 was to scan it out for transit to the NVC...but I honestly don't know :hehe:

I didn't use a lawyer, but I did use a service to insure that all the paperwork was filled out correctly. For me it bought me peace of mind, mostly because I knew they had filled out 1000's of these before mine (there is no substitute for experience IMO) :yes:

hi!!! there I have my approved petition from NVC and they told us from there letter that they have send our papers to the manila embassy but til now i have not received any letter from them. Your lucky to have your interview and medical date. Hope i could have mine too. Good Luck!!

Hi!! Island princess.....how did you know that your papers was received by the US Embassy now. Mine were approved by NVC last may 16 and they sid in the letter that they will sent it to the US Embassy and they will received it with in a week. But we have not heard from the US Embassy yet. :help:

Hi!!! You do not need to fill up ds-156k. its for fiance visa only. I just had my interview for k3 and i have my visa now.

Wake-up in the Monday morning, Greet my hubby a very special "Happy Birthday"! Fix myself, drove-out, reached Immigration about an hour drive. Waited to the parking for 1 hr keep playing back the Cd-rom to review myself again and again. 30 mins. before my Interview schedule @ 925am ... I checked-in to the entrance door, being scanned, went to the 2nd floor to give my appointment, just checked the time I get in, and asked me to go upstairs at the 3rd flr instead.

Up to the 3rd flr., went to the reception and being asked to wait. Called by 10am by a female Officer. Asked my Greencard, Driver's license and my old/new Philippine passport. She took all her time juggling my 7-8 inches thick Immigration files. Putting post-it paper in between all my files from petition.


Took me in swearing...... Then asked me the 6 questions:


1) what is amendment?

2) highest court in US?


3) first 10 amendment?


4) who is the president?

5) capital of your state?

6) one promise you make when you be a citizen?

Reading test: What is one right in Bill of Rights?

Writing test: Freedom of speech is one right.

Started to give me questions about my info in the application....

Then the "BIG ISSUE" came the "NAME CHANGE" .... she crossed-out my middle name (w/c is my father last name) and put instead my mother's last name.. and started saying:

Here in US , when you got married .. you still gonna used your middle name when your single ( w/c is my mother's name) and then your last name will be your husband name.


example : (single name) WWW (1st name) - XXX(mother's name) - YYY(father's name)

(married name i used on all my id's) WWW (1st name) - YYY (father's name) - ZZZ (husband name)

(US legal way use of name in Immigration) WWW (1st name) - XXX (mother's name) - ZZZ (husband name)


So.. she said If I want to use - YYY (father's name) as my middle name, a change name should take in court house. She said they got judicial oath ceremony but it's gonna be schedule next year. Well, I said I want to take the Oath this afternoon since I'm there already, and do change name in my county court house someday. Then she let me signed my id picture and application form.


She then keep looking on the system, keep scanning on my profile bar and then printed something. Started talking to me like, you passed the exams, but something here on the system showing that , there's a 2 N400 application sent... She said hold-on and I'll ask my supervisor.... I'll log you in this afternoon.


Came back on me, gave me a piece of paper N652 ( notice that I passed the interview) then saying that come back for 2pm for it has Oath same day. She didn't mentioned that I need to get a notice of Oath taking before oath, or saying that needs further evaluation of my file.

So I thought it's a "GO" for Oath, so I went home to picked my husband, my son and my cousin. We went there arrived at 1pm, and everyone's called-in for Oath at 2pm. So I approach the staff and told her that I am interviewed 10am this morning. She went upstairs and i guess talked to the officer interview me. She came down, saying to me that she called me few minutes but I'm not there anymore, and told her I need to pick-up my family for oath, bcoz my husband in a wheelchair.

She started saying she's sorry, her supervisor said "NO" on my Oath even she put me in the afternoon, bcoz of this " guessing of IDENTITY THEFT on my Alien# ... that someone filed another application for same no.

EVEN, i explained to her, that I applied in Texas Center for N400, my mistake that I didn't check online that it should be in Vermont Center bcoz texas don't accept anymore applications. But i told her Texasnotified me abut the mistake, so they are the one gonna send my application to Vermont Ctr. So to my understanding, i have 2 filed - 1 in texas and vermont, but someone inside didn't corrected that error in the system. She already said she explained it to the supervisor, but the supervisor want to make sure the system be cleared 100% ( I don't blame his judgement, bcoz it's someone's inside mistake and not me.

So I told her, talked to my husband instead of this issue.... so she did, and then asked me when I am going to be back in US after my New Year's vacation in my home country. I said end of January 2010. She said , I need to give them 1 month atleast to correct the issue and they will schedule me for Oath when I come back.

For that ... I insisted to her to get a "Judicial Oath Ceremony" for that change name issue about whose name should be used in US way. First I think of just go on with the new name she put on my file ( WWW-XXX-ZZZ) when I took oath next year, But it crossed to my mind, that all my credit cards, banks, certificates are on my WWW-YYY-ZZZ) name. For me, it's more convenient for me to do the change name in citizenship, than calling or visiting all these private and government offices bcoz of the name the Immigration want me to use bcoz it is the legal way in US way.

She said Judicial oath is free than getting it on our county court house but it needs to be scheduled. I said back to her... U asked me until February for my oath ceremony bcoz you need to clear my Alien# file issue, might as well wait for that schedule but with a judicial oath ceremony instead for my name change. since I am going to do change name even I took the Oath today... seems like " HITTING 2 BIRDS in 1 STONE next year!!!!


Well the consolation for me now is "I'VE PASSED" and DONE with the stress to review for interview/exam. Though I'm not done yet dealing with the Immigration stuff...

Oh my, I think i have to change my name also because like you, i use my father's name as my middle name here in USA. May i ask you how did you chnage your name (if u did). how long it take to do that. hope you could share yyour experience regarding this matter. thank you.

Thanks everyone.
I guess they said to wait 10 days to make sure the naturalization records are in the system.

They said to make sure to get a certified copy before sending the original for the US passport. They said the Dept of State needs the original and then it gets sent back with the U.S. passport. The copy they were talking about are those ones where a notary public looks at the original and stampsthe copy with a seal and certifying that it is a true copy of the original. They said its good to do this as a back-up just in case something happens. I read somewhere here that someone sent in their original certificate for the U.S. passport application and the certificate came back mutilated to pieces. Then they tried to get a copy from USCIS and guess what....it will cost $375 to get another certificate. I guess the USCIS have heard of the horror stories..



Hope my certificate would not be distroyed. i applied for US passport and gave them the origianl copy of certificate. Now, i'm worried. I should have research it here before applying. hope and praying that it still be the same.

Hello!!! Everyone... how are you doing? Finally I got my interview and test done last Nov. 7 and it came out perfectly great. It was easy and fast. I had my Oath taking the following day Nov. 8. We were 15 people who took the aoth.

I am so happy and relieve that everything is done for me. I also applied my US pass port, update my records at SSO and register to vote. I'm done now.

Thank you Lord for all the help and guidance you have given us. and i would also thanks my love of my life who supported me all the way.

I get excited yesterday upon receiving my interview & test letter. My schedule will be on November 7. Thank you Lord, it's getting closer to everything. Soon i'll be done of all of this paper works.

Hello!!!! Fellow VJ...I was excited this morning because i received an NOA for my finger print. My schedule will be on Aug. 19. That's so fast. I can't believe it. I have to be ready and pack our things to go to Portland. It will take us 7 hours to drive and have to stay for the night before the sched. And have to come back the same day. Anyway, hope this things will be more smoother so i'll be done.

Praying for all of us....

Here is the full details of our interview and Oath

Interview Part:

Our Interview was at 8:45 in the morning and we arrived at the DO at 8:15 or so. (Just so that people know, Porland OR DO does not have a specific parking for USCIS customers, you have to park along, NW Hoyt, or Park Avenue or NW Glisan. There are a number of meters around the building and they are mostly open). After passing security, walk straight to room 106 and place the N-400 interview letters in the box on the left had side. The IO look for the letter there and then call your name.

I was called by the IO at 8:40. She was very professional and nice too. First she swore me before I sat down. As I sat down I noticed the 1-2 inch folder on her table (think that must be all the docs that I had sent to INS/BCIS/USCIS over the course of 12 years I guess :)). She said that she would go through the tests first and then go through the application. She printed out the questions from the computer. 6 Civics/History Questions. Here are the questions.

1.How many amendments does the constitution have?
2. What group of people was taken to America and sold as slaves?
3. Why did the colonists fight the British?
4.What is the highest court in the US.
5. Who makes laws?
6. Who is the vice-president?

She then asked me to read "Who can Vote" and then to write "Citizens 18 and older can vote"

After that she said that I had passed the interview and she went through the application. I had made one additional international travel since filing my n400 and gave her an updated page for that. She just jotted down the travel dates and made a comment "you haven't traveled much". I told her about the traffic tickets as I had said No to citations in my original application ( I had 3 tickets one speeding, one parking and one obstructing an intersection - all less than $500). I told her that I did not have court certified copies but did have the original tickets so offered her copies and she took them and noted down the 3 tickets along with the fees on the application. She said it was not a problem as it was less than $500. Then asked me to sign the application in 2 places and also on the side of the Photographs. Finally she gave me the document saying that I passed the interview and was being recommended for Naturalization. She then asked the big question, do you want to do the Oath today, I said ofcourse. She then printed out the Same day oath letter and asked me to be back @ 1:50pm for a 2pm oath. She then said wished me luck and we were out @ 8:55.

Oath Part:

Arrived back at 1:40 and found a parking spot on NW Hoyt. We where in the building waiting in room 117 @ 1:45. (Couple of things to note. 1. if you have children, make sure you have someone else other than the people going for the oath ceremony there to take care of them, 2. No Jean or shorts :( ). @ 1:55, they took us all to the 2nd floor and asked the people taking the oath to wait outside. Then another officer arrived and she took our oath letters and Green cards (I noticed that almost everyone that I saw in the waiting in the morning where there :). Once inside, we sat in the front, went through a few videos 1. Faces of America, 2. President Obama's message, 3.forgot the other 2 :(. Then the immigrant judge had a few words and swore us in. She then called us one by one and gave us our Naturalization certificate. The comment that the IO made was to make sure that the naturalization certificate data was correct before we left the building. She asked us to register to Vote, update the Social Security Office about the change in status and apply for a US passport (The main Post office for Portland is next door). We where then allowed to take pictures in front of the flag.

After 13 years from F1->H1B->GC we are finally done with USCIS and US Citizens.

Passport application:
We then filled up our passport applications and walked next door to the PO (Passport applications are only accepted until 3:30pm M-F), submitted the application and was told that it takes about 4-6 weeks to get the passports back. took a copy of the Naturalization certificates and then paid $135 (2 checks 1. for $110 to the State department and 2. $25 to the Post master) for the passport applications and where out of there @ 3:15. You can have your Photos taken at the PO also, but we had copies and so skipped that step. Please note that the PO does not accept Credit cards for passport applications and so you need to have your check book.

Well, came home from work today and my wife's approval notice was in the mail. Permanent Resident Card should arrive within 60 days.

Date of decision was 3/20/09. There have been updates to USCIS status sinec the last touch on 2/27/09. I am just glad the case was transferred to CSC.

Hopefully all the other transfers (and everyone still waiting at VSC) get approved soon.

And to make today an even better day, Eliana has just started pre-labor pains. Hoefully our daughter arrives soon as well.
