US Citizenship General DiscussionPriority Dates
In several months I expect tp file for US Citizenship. Like all contributors to this forum, I have been thru the USCIS 'wringer' and have learnt that forwarned is forarmed. In light of this, any information that is able to be provided as to the process that takes place following the application being submitted would be appreciated. In particular, what the terms 'Priority Date' and'Notice Date' refer to and the sequence of events that follow the NOA1.

Thanks

US Citizenship General DiscussionTax forms?
QUOTE (flames9 @ May 20 2008, 07:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
Howdy!! I realize one has to send photocopies of 3 years of tax returns (wil send in 2008,2007,2006), but what parts of the tax forms? Just the 1040 or does one have to mail in all the schedules and forms as well?

As well i know it doesn't say it, but should the paperwork be notarized? or just send in plain old black and white photocopies? Thanks
Scott

If you call the IRS 1-800-829-1040 automated service, a tax transcript for each year can be ordered (no charge) and you receive them in a few weeks. They usually comprise of about four pages and you can photocopy these and send in with your N400. Good Luck.

Forgot to add, I just used normal black and white photocopy and DID NOT have them notorized.

US Citizenship General DiscussionExpiry date on N-400 Form
Am in the process of completing my N-400 form for lodging in Mid November.

I have downloaded the form from USCIS Website, but notice that the Expiry Date shown on Page 1 on the top right hand corner is 10/31/08.

Is USCIS going to issue a new form replacing this one that expires on 10/31/08 or can we still use it.

Any thoughts appreciated.

US Citizenship General DiscussionOath Ceremony
Just an update - received advise to attend Oath Ceremony at 8AM March 22 at the Pomona Fairgrounds CA along with 3500 soon to be sworn US Citizens.
If anyone has had any experiences of attending this venue for an Oath Ceremony, I would be interested in hearing them - details regarding parking and if you should apply for a passport there etc would be of a great help.

Thursday March 26, 2009 was my interview day and here is how it went:

My appointment was at 10:00 so we got there at 9:30. My wife and my two kids came with me since my application was based on my marriage. It was a very small office and therefore there were may be 8 to 10 people there but half of them came for something else I guess they had an infopass. There was only one IO (Interviwing Officer) doing the interview at the time I got there till the time I got call so at 10: she called the 9 o'clock appointment this last for about 30 minutes than the 9:40 appt was called and 15 minutes or less I was called around 10:30. My 3 year old went to use the bathroom so when I got call, my wife and her were not around so I told the IO my wife is taking care of my little daughter and that she will be right back should we wait for her she just told me that's ok you can come when they come out the security officer can just escort to the interview room. So, As soon as I got in, the IO told me not to sit down yet but raise my right hand and swear to tell the truth. After that, she went through the usual questions: Have you supported any terrorists organizations etc... which of course to all of them I said no and then she asks would I be willing to bear arm for the US if required, work for the US government ect... to which I said yes!

She basically went through my file with me and then said now we going to start with the test to which I added that: This is the fun part and she laughed. Herr a re the questions I was asked:
1-What is one responsibility of a us Citizen?
2- How do you call the ocean on the West coast?
3- HOw old do you have to be to vote?
4- What happened on sep 11 to the United States?

after that she told me to read: How many senators are there? and then I had to write: There are one hundred senators. Everything was going well 'till she said I have some biographic info to fill out since you have been in the military according to what she sees on the computer. I told her that I have never been enlisted in the military and that I did not even put that in my application! She said they might have been confused since I was registered for the selective service. She said she can not make a decision now but they will contact me in uo to 3 months for the result. She gave a paper saying I passed the english and US History and government and checked cool.gif A decision cannot be made about your application. Since she has to investigate a little bit more on that.

Needless to says I had at least 100 pictures one album filled with our wedding pictures and one envelop from Walmart filled with different pictures of me and my wife and other family members and also I had a big suitcase full of documents she did not ask me for nothing but my passport, driver's license. She asked for my Selective Service card but she found out I had sent a copy of it. The whole thing lasted about 15 minutes and no the security guard did not escort my wife to the interview room, so her and the kids were waiting on the lobby. thanks for each and everyone's support! I will give you guys and update as soon as it become available.

I am pretty confident that everything is and will be alright but it is just very funny though, how do you prove you were not in the US military? I guess there is nothing I can do with that but wait for them. What do you guys think?

Haiti:

Congratulations - a long road but the end is worth it.

Regards

Congratulations Jenny star_smile.gif

Good luck to bryand1 for interview tomorrow. We pray for the success.

Vital2006: Thank you for your kind thoughts. Also thanks to all my November Filers and to Lomeshp etc for their assistance, their suggestions and their advise, so freely given over the past few months. Such support, which is never taken for granted, helped me, and I am sure all who read their comments.

As a small gesture of my thanks to these people, I thought I might relate my experience at my Citizenship Interview in LA, taken today, March 5. The interview was scheduled at 9:15AM and I was advised not to report there any earlier than 30 minutes before. I therefore arrived at 8:45AM, when I presented my interview letter. this was checked and was in turn placed in a basket, along with other applicant's letters. These were all collected every few minutes by USCIS Staff and I would imagine, matched up with the applicant's files.

The waiting room on the 6th floor at 300 Los Angeles St. in Downtown LA, by my estimation, would hold about 100 and when I entered, would have been 50% occupied. In addition to those awaiting Citizenship Interviews, were families who had petitioned on behalf of children and family members and they were called up as USCIS staff matched up their Interview Letters with their files. The room was fairly stark with a single TV showing CNN with no reading mater, other than what you brought in by yourself. USCIS staff called out names from one of two doors - one on the left side of the room and one on the right side of the room. While waiting there, I observed that most applicants were dressed casually and my advise is that a few minutes spent looking smartly dressed if you can, would probably would not go un-noticed by the interview officers

At 9:20am (35 minutes after I arrived) my name was called and I was escorted by the interview officer, who was middle aged American, to a single office. I was asked to raise my right hand and swear that I would tell the truth in the interview. Having done this, I was asked to sit and asked if I had ever voted in a US Federal Election, what was the supreme law of the land and if I 'agreed' with the constitution.

I was then asked to present my marriage certificate, my divorce papers, my green card, my California License and my wife's birth certificate. All were sighted and returned to me. Questions which I had answered in my N-400 application were again read out to me and my answers were the same given in the application form. I was then asked if I had taken any trips out of the country other than those mentioned in my N-400 form and my reply was 'No'.

Finally, I was advised that as I was originally from an English speaking country, that the written English test would be dispensed with but that the Civic's questions would be asked. The following questions were used:

. What is the name of the US National Anthem?
. What happened on Sept. 11 2001?
. What is the ocean on the US West Coast?
. How old do you have to be to vote for the President?
. What war was Eisenhower in?
. Why are there 13 stripes in the US Flag?

After correctly answering these six correctly, I was told that no more would be required.

I was then advised that I had passed and that I would be contacted again by USCIS to confirm the date of the oath ceremony, but that it would probably take place in early to mid April.

I looked at my watch as I left the interview room and saw that it was 9:35AM - the whole process had taken just on 15 minutes to complete.

As a small gesture of gratitude to all at VJ, let me say that I have a box of Flash Cards for the Citizenship Test - as I will no longer be needing these, the first VJ'er to send me an email requesting them and providing me with the name and address, will receive them from me with my compliments and best wishes for their own success. the way I figure it, the US Government has got enough of our money for this entire immigration system and if I can save a ellow VJ'er some money, then I should. Perhaps we might all be able to do this after we have finished with these Flash Cards. Anyway my e-mail is:

multiplex67@yahoo.com

Thanks again to all those who helped me and I hope my comments over the past few years have helped others.

My best to you all.

US Citizenship General DiscussionDual British and American citizenship?
QUOTE (katej0203 @ Jun 7 2008, 01:59 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I am still at the beginning of the process, but am wondering...

I am presently a British citizen, and will eventually reach the stage where I am to consider having an American citizenship. I dont have any family based reasons to apply for it, but it would save me having to renew a green card in the future.

Can I keep my British citizenship too? Does anyone have both? Any opinions?

As previously advised, as a British citizen, you can hold dual citizenship with the US. However remember that as a US Citizen you will be responsible for filing a tax return each year with the IRS, WHEREVER you live and this tax return requires you to report GLOBAL income i.e. all income received from anywhere. The good news is that if your income does not exceed $82,000 pa (indexed each year) then you don't pay tax, BUT you still must complete a tax return.

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionBank Statements
I am in the process of obtaining the supporting documentation for the I-751. Accordingly I have gathered together our bank statements, but notice that these statements comprise about four pages each. The first page list name and address and current balance and the accompanying pages list the transactions that took place along with copies of the checks.

My question is this. To reduce the mountain of paper, would it be appropriate to simply forward the first page with names and address or should all four pages be submitted?

Any opinion would be appreciated.

Thanks

Removing Conditions on Residency General DiscussionPresentation of Check
Once the check for the I-751 has been banked by USCIS, does this mean that the application has been accepted or is it immaterial to the process system.

My application was received by USCIS on November 19 but to date, the check has not been presented nor has an NOA been received.

I am not sweating on this but would be interested to hear of any other VJ'ers experiences.

Thanks

I sent my I-751 on November 17 to CSC and USPS confirmed delivery on November 19.

To date my check has still not been cashed and like you, my Green Card runs out on Feb 14 2007.

I am not panicing right now but will give it to the end of December.

Good Luck.

If we are to believe that USCIS operates according to some logic ( huh.gif ) , you shouldn't be too far behind ... We have the exact same timeline (see below) and our check was just cashed yesterday.

After my previous message, I returned home to find my NOA1 in the mail and that my checked had been cashed on the same day. Your's can't be far away.

Ok I am alittle worried. I mailed my I-751 on November 20 priority post with confirmation delivery. USPS tracking info shows it was delivered on Nov 22 but they still have not cashed our check yet and no NOA1 received. At what point should I make an Infopass appointment? My greencard expires on Feb 14.

Congratulations - like your I too received my 10 Year Card in quick time. Lodged it with CSC on November 17 2007 - Approved Feb 1 2008. Happy as I am, and as you are, it pains me to see how long so many other VJ'ers have to wait while other so called 'Service' Centers process their same applications.
