United KingdomProcess for a US citizen to marry a UK citizen in the UK

Hi there,

Not sure if I am posting this in the right section but have been told post it here.

I am engaged to a US citizen and we would like to marry in the U.K as I am eventually going to live out there with him so my family want the wedding here.

I am not sure if he needs some sort of Visa in order to marry me here?

Thank you

Lauren

Over analysing everything right now

Can log in with my case number now, have filled in the ds261.
I can see the IV fee there (not invoiced) but there's nothing under where it says AOS. Is this common?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsNVC Filers - September 2014

My husband is Lebanese but we live in France. Our I-130 showed he planned to apply in Paris and we included documentation of his legal residency here. Our case was initially assigned to Beirut, and I complained and the NVC changed it to Paris. It actually happened before I was able to formally request it by email, so I'm not sure how it was triggered apart from my conversation with the NVC agent. (I did have an email exchange with the Paris embassy about it, but I highly doubt they had anything to do with fixing it.)

I wasn't able to do anything on my case because our the DS-261 and AOS fee weren't ready yet. Since they assign case numbers so fast now, I really don't think you will be delayed. Go ahead and proceed as if the case number were correct, and then stay in contact with the NVC by phone to get your new number after you send in the birth certificate. Hang in there!

Yeah I mean the lady on the phone said to my husband that it'll take a week to change the case number and then after that the forms and fees should be shortly after.
But I just can't help but dramatically freak out when something goes wrong! It causes so many arguments between me and hubby :(
Thank you so much for your reassurance though! I'm sure it'll all be sorted out soon!

It shouldn't slow down the processing of your case. Go ahead and send the BC. Sorry this happened. :(

(We also were assigned to the wrong embassy, and I don't think it slowed us down.)

Wow thank you, that made me feel a whole lot better. I'm sending my BC tomorrow :).
What happened with you? Could you explain?
Did you wait to do anything until your new case number as assigned or were you able to do anything on the portals?

Uh, yes, KEV is for the Ukraine. I'd get back on the phone and explain the situation. You'll need to get a new case number.

Oh my... I feel SOOOO sorry for your husband  I'd be the same way!

Funny story, my husband just had a form of LASIK eye surgery done last Thursday. He's been making video blogs about it. He asked me to film the eye surgery. Let's just say, half way through his first eye (with all the scrapping and clamps and such) and I nearly passed out. For the rest of the surgery, everyone in the room was asking if I was alright

We called them. Due to the fact I put U.K. and not GBR they put me in as from the Ukraine.
Wouldn't change it obviously, I need to send them my birth certificate to change my embassy and give me a new case number, but did say we could pay the fees. Would you think this is correct? Do you think that'll take forever? They said to my husband it'll be a week.
I'm so annoyed and upset over this. You can clearly tell from all over my package that it says United Kingdom!
:(

Hi guys!
My husband just called up NVC and got our case number after just a week.
So confused though. Our number starts with KEV. But I'm from the United Kingdom.
Isn't Kev for Ukraine or something?
I'm confused haha.

Thank you!

Yes. If he's salary, put that. If he's paid by the hour, calculate what his current annual income would be by: hourly wage x hours worked per week x weeks worked per year (typically 52).

The question most people have problems with are for the three previous years' tax information (even though it's written right in the question what amount to use :bonk: ).

Yeah, that's what we did. Phew! (not that we've sent it yet but would be a bloody pain if he had to do it, especially considering he first filled it out with me next to him. I'd be worried to let him do it on his own haha)

So for the past 3 years tax information? We just put the amount that was on his w2's? Is that right?

I think about all this stuff 24 hours a day! Driving me mad!

Current annual income isn't based on tax forms

So, Saylin, we just put what my husbands annual income is BEFORE tax?  That previous post confused me.

What have people been slipping up on when it comes to the income part?

Thanks in advance

I'm glad! We hit 2 months from POE this week, there's still a lot of adjustment going on but life together is incredible. All the ups and downs of the visa process are just a fading memory now, and that is definitely something for everyone here to look forward to :)

That is what I always try to tell myself when I am feeling frustrated about it.  :)

I was a little naive to think that once we got approved it would be a lot quicker but judging by these threads, I don't think that will be the case.

Although looking at your timeline, once you were at NVC it wasn't too long was it?

If you gave USCIS your email address, NVC will have it on file to send your case number and IIN. When I got my numbers over the phone NVC already had my (petitioner) email and only asked me to confirm it.

Yeah, both our email addresses were in the package to USCIS. We'll probably end up calling too, but just wanted to know whether I should look out for emails too.

BTW - I read your blog yesterday. Helped with my postivity! :)

Hi all,

I read VJ pretty much everyday (although hubby tells me not to as I end up becoming obsessed/paranoid/blubbering mess) - but rarely post.

Just want to thank you all for writing on here so often, it is helpful and I am so glad it exists, otherwise I wouldn't have a clue!!

Quick question, I've seen some people received an email with case number and IIN, is that because of the e-notification that's with our package or because they've given over their email addresses to NVC before it's assigned?

Thank you all again, sending positive thoughts and prayers to all of us in this state of limbo!!

Sending good vibes to all this week!

Judging NSC being up to March 16th, realistically I should be any day now!

We shall see!

The wait continues for us all but we're all in this together!!

That's true!! I just didn't have anything to prove we are married other than the certificate and that receipt with my married name on. And the fact we have affidavits from people who were at our house when our other friend married us!
The stuff you worry about during this process is ridiculous!

I'm on my phone right now so I can't see your timeline etc.
Are you waiting for your approval now?

laurenmatFemaleUnited Kingdom2014-03-30 13:56:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsALL Nebraska I-130 Filers

Yes, I sent them the marriage certificate, pictures and the affidavits from friends...No visit proofs cause I was actually studying in the US when we met and when we applied I hadn't visited yet ;) But you think it should be enough? I'm feeling a little bit better now, thank you :)

I feel the same as you!!

We sent tickets from our visits before we got married (passport stamps, itineraries)

Several photos (before, after we got married and some of us and our parents) The only photo we had from our wedding day was one we took of ourselves

2 affidavits from friends

Marriage certificate.

We went to Disneyland after we got married and we told them we were newlyweds and they put this big 'JUST MARRIED' and my new full name thing on our table..I sent that

I sent letters that we had sent each other, valentines/birthday/Xmas cards

Engagement cards

Phone bills

Receipts from the post office of him sending me gifts

We had our friend whose a minister to marry us in our house so we didn't have a chance to take any photos nor did we have a venue! I'm worrying that that's not enough evidence of a 'marriage'. But then at the same time I think, a lot of people who get married don't always have a 'wedding' so there isn't always photos. And then I think, how is my name supposed to be on bills etc when we don't even live together yet?

I hope someone can calm my little head before I explode. I'm half excited about finding out in *hopefully* 5 months but half dreading being disappointed!!

Hi Lauren and Mat: Hope your NOA2 comes sooner than 5 months. While you are waiting read up on the NVC process in the NVC Guide here:

http://www.visajourn...php/NVC_Process

Also, do change your consulate. Are you going thru' Armenia?

Hi!

Completely didn't mean to put Armenia, changed it now. Thank you!

Thank you for your well wishes! :)

Haha, wow!! I am kicking myself for reading this thread!!

We was 'Mr and Mrs Positivity' beforehand.

We filed March 12th, NOA1 date - 17th

Here's me thinking we will get our NOA2 on the adjudicated date given (May)

Looking like it's gonna be months and months though, huh?

Well, since Nebraska just released that it's processing within their 5 month goal, you could possibly expect to hear in August since you filed March 12th.

Yeah, that's good news. How long ago did they release that?

u mean march 12th 2014 or 2013? good luck  :goofy:

This year!

Thank you :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresName change when returning to home to wait to Visa

Hi guys,

Forgive me if the way I word this doesn't make sense!

Me and my fiance are getting married early next year and are going to apply for the IR-1/cr-1 visa afterwards, obviously I will be returning home to England after my stay to await for the process to go through and for me to acquire my visa.

Is there any laws to say I have to change my name to my married name back home in England when I return? I.E. On my passport and my bank. When we fill in the forms I will be putting my name as my married name as I have read that is what others did but I wasn't sure what to do in regards to my UK passport etc.

Thank you in advance

Lauren :)

Oh I see. We aren't too far apart re: filing time! We sent ours early March.

All the stress will be worth it soon! I'll look back at all of this with a sigh of relief!

Thank you for your reassurance though! It's helped a ton. Just got to stop reading horror stories on here!!

Yeah all my trips have been weekly/fortnightly trips except my last one which was 86 days but like you said, I didn't over stay. And this trip is only 4 weeks long so I don't think it should raise any alarm.

I hear California is pretty speedy. My husband is from California so I wish ours was there, would make more sense. Oh, good luck to you! When did you file?

laurenmatFemaleUnited Kingdom2014-04-21 07:36:00

The last time I visited I stayed for 86 days and said I was visiting family (which isn't a lie, my husband is a friend of my cousin which is how we met) and he didn't ask anything else.
I got myself all worked up before I got to the officer and ended up taking my engagement ring off!! I'm an absolute bag of nerves about it haha.
But this time I'm determined to just stick to 'husband' rather than trying to bend the truth. I know I'll be much prouder of myself too lol.

Well Nebraska has been a bit behind from what I've read, but is trying to catch up! Our 'adjucated date' on our timeline has changed twice in a week! But my fingers are crossed for sooner rather than later, kind of was hoping I would be there before Christmas!
Where are you filed at? I'm on my phone right now so I can't see your timeline properly.

That's exactly what I was saying to my husband last night, as much as this forum has helped me with questions regarding our application. If I didn't know it existed, I wouldn't even think about the immigration part even being a problem.

Do you suggest I simply say 'visiting my husband'?

Yeah, they probably won't ask for it. It's just such a pain in the butt that the process is so long and difficult and then they throw in the fact immigration officers scare the hell out of us! I know I will be fine. I'll be laughing at myself come June.

Thank you so much

Does anyone else over think it so much that you make up this dumb scenario in your head that you'll be denied entry?
I need someone to vent my worries to.
I'm visiting in June for 4 weeks. I have my employment letter already to go, and going to take my noa1 email and my husband is going to email me a copy of the noa1 he got in the mail.
And I will be sure to print out my flight itinerary.
Has anyone traveled this year into LAX and had no bother?
Would appreciate a friendly response to calm my a** down!!
Thankyou in advance guys

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresYes you can visit- IR1-CR1 version

Been meaning to write on here for a while.

I travelled to LAX a couple of weeks ago to see my husband (currently still here, yay)

I was beyond nervous about going through customs as I only returned from California in February.  I had everything ready, my NOA1, my work letter, my return flight printed.

The guy ended up being the NICEST officer I have ever come across. We had a lovely conversation about Lake Elsinore (where my husband lives), he didn't ask my any questions other than how long I was there for. And then that was it.

All my worrying for nothing!! Yay!!

laurenmatFemaleUnited Kingdom2014-06-23 18:42:00
IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresYes you can visit- IR1-CR1 version

Although it's tempting to just mention family I wouldn't risk lying to the CBP officers or withholding information. The risk of you being caught not telling the truth is worse than them knowing you are visiting with a visa in process. All you need to do is show that you have ties to your home country. I've visited 3 times while my CR1 was in process and told them I was visiting my wife every time and all I was asked was how long I was staying and my occupation. One of them asked "who's moving where" and I explained about our CR1 but that was it.

Yeah you are right, I have been speaking to my husband about it since I posted this and he has convinced me not to lie. Also, I am only going for 4 weeks whereas my last time I went for 12 weeks so it's less likely to raise an alarm with them.

I'll bring the NOA1 email, my job letter and my flight information on return and I should be just fine.

Thanks so much! :)

I'm going to visit my husband in June for the first time since we applied for the visa, and I'm incredibly worried.

I have family out there who I am also visiting, do you think I could just say I am visiting them rather than my husband or will it come up on there side that we've applied for a visa?

It'll save myself a lot of worry if I know I'm just going to say I'm visiting family!

Replies will be much appreciated, thank you! x
