The "collection or sequence of forms and procedures required to gain bureaucratic approval for something, especially when oppressively complex and time-consuming".

Congrats. We got ours a week after the interview, though the interview itself was postponed for 4 days. Aside from the NBI, they got our stuff done at lightning speed.

PhilippinesCFO class....corruption in the Philippines

Even this whole damn CFO process is a cost acquisition method to disguise "concern for OFWs." What a load of red tape bullshit.

PhilippinesCFO class....corruption in the Philippines

ps

If anyone still believes that Filipino corruption is exaggerated, trying sending imported electronic goods to someone in the country. You'll get to know our Customs people very well. Hell, if I was given a nucular weapon to deploy on one thing on this planet, it would be the Philippine Customs department. I have never seen a more vile and conniving organization in my life. There's a special section in hell reserved for those bastards.

PhilippinesCFO class....corruption in the Philippines

Corruption in the Philippines goes hand in hand, which is ironic for such a God-fearing country. If I had a choice though, I'd rather go with this form of corruption because it's so easy to spot and circumvent, unlike American corruption, which is so well disguised and virtually impossible to avoid.

Philippineswhat documents needed to leave airport in philippines

Birth Certs for everyone. Maybe 2 copies each.

All education transcripts, diplomas and such. From high school to college!

Any medical records you can get.

Family photos!!

Shir left those behind and really misses them. I wanted to get all of them scanned and on to disk because many were starting to fade. Some family members have passed away and the photo is all that is left.

The college diploma and licenses related to profession proved incredibly important.

PhilippinesHow did you meet your Filipino Fiance?

Yeah, "girl next door" relationships are quite common in the provinces. Sometimes, when you're in a foreign country and you've gone in and out of relationships with different sorts of women, going back to basics can really pay off.

pete_falconeMalePhilippines2013-09-13 16:52:00
PhilippinesHow did you meet your Filipino Fiance?

Ok. Well, in that case, my fiancee and I were literally cross-the-street neighbors since birth. My family and I emigrated to the States when I was 5. Did not go back home until 26 years later, but we kept in occasional touch. What brought me back home, funny enough, was my nasty set of teeth. What was originally a money-saving effort to diagnose and treat my teeth turned into a rekindling of a love we felt for one another all this time, but never quite expressed.

pete_falconeMalePhilippines2013-09-13 16:31:00
PhilippinesVisa REFUSED...

Yes. In the good old days, a foreign dentist could just simply take a couple of exams and have a license to practice. Thanks to our new wonderful laws, they must go through 2 years of dental school to even think about working in any sort of high-paying dental capacity (anything above RDA.)

Indeed Dave. Even though our processing felt fast-tracked due to our ages, we encountered delays in processing. I thank God for those delays because those events gave me time to deal with domestic emergencies and make corrections to recoup those losses. If she had been around during those times, I imagine the extra stresses of those emergencies would have placed some doubts about this huge life gamble she just made.

pete_falconeMalePhilippines2013-09-13 15:11:00
PhilippinesVisa REFUSED...

Laws and politics aside, I wouldn't suggest going through with this until your career is firmly in place. You could say that USEM is doing you a great favor. All the fees and tickets have put a remarkable dent on the wallet, and the next 3 (possibly 24 months for me) months will be tight since she can't conceivably work until 765 clears (and she gains her US dental licenses.)

Yeah, I'm just wondering if the petitioner can pool his sponsor's funds into his own bank account. Kinda like how some home buyers these days need to show banks that a reserve capital exists, so they ask relatives/sponsors to  borrow some money temporarily to show that reserve capital.

Try booking through Travelocity. They did not ask me any questions and the receipt itinerary was good enough. She flew PAL which, if I had bought a ticket directly with, would have made me fill out a bunch of forms just to reserve a ticket.

PhilippinesMy CFO Experience and Great Counselor on Our Batch (Sept. 4, 2013)

Good thing you liked it. My fiancee went to the Manila one as well on the 4th and she learned a lot from the experience. I was hesitant as well due to feedback I gleaned from past attendants and my general distrust for bureaucratic things, but I'm glad she and others got a lot out of this.

PhilippinesPeople causing problems for us

There is to much Drama here.  Why torture yourself and your future.  Delete and Block from Facebook.  Why read ####### when you know it gets your/their attention.  The whole thing is mighty immature.

Why have friends like that unless you like to read it.  Really, printing comments.  Delete and get on with YOUR Lives.

It is a terrible start and your future at risk if you like this type of Drama.

The best thing to do is delete from Facebook and a good start.  They will know they were deleted.  In other words:  They will get bored talking to a blank Wall.

Mindanao Bob has some nice diary-style articles about expat living in one of the more provincial areas of the Philippines. I perused some of them when I returned for the first time in 2011.

PhilippinesTop 10 places to retire on $2000 a month (Cebu one of them)

Cebu sounds good. I have relatives who vouch for it, but I've never been there. How would it compare to places like Clark or Subic, small cities with a large international presence?

Personally, I have my house in Pampanga and the misses has hers as well right across the street, so we're set to retire in Central Luzon regardless.

Philippinesplease help. BiG problem ahead

What kind of employment contract did you sign? Which company is this? Filipino companies have weird ### hiring practices, so it's important to know certain things before you commit to them. If it's an at-will, then tell them to piss off. If there are stipulations in the contract that somehow restrict your ability to leave the company at will, then I'd find a way to cover your ### or find an exit clause. This all depends on how important it is for you to have this company as a positive reference.

PhilippinesReady to File AOS but she is acting out

If everything you say is true, then your "wife" needs to know her place and get with the damned program. Regardless of any standard, her attitude is way too untrusting and obsessive. At the same time, your compassion for them, while admirable, shouldn't cause massive inconvenience and unhappiness in your own life. If God or a marriage counselor can't fix your relationship, then it's time to send her back. Some people aren't meant to hack it here.
