After talking with a Representative from Senator Tom Harkin, its not a letter of support, they want the petition number and will check on the time frame. I hope there true to there word and hope it gets processed in a timely matter. The Senator has 1 or more employees that do nothing but inquire about visa petitions... they will inquire, but you have not filed so there is nothing they will be able to tell you other than what is presented on the USCIS webstite... ater you file, they can send inquiries to ask about the status of your case... the same info that you will get if you send an email... they ust get a response very quick and it will take you weeks to hear back from HCMC when the case finally gets there... For now, keep working on getting the initial filing as organized and clearly presented as possible.. the easier it is for the CO to see the relationship in the info presented in the initial filing, the better... There is nothing that a politician can do to get the case processed faster than the protocol that every other case goes through. unless they present a valid cause to have the case expedited which is very rare... It was once thought that having a senator or congressman contact the consulate carried some weight, but HCMC gets a couple hundred inquiries from congressman and senators each week... they answer them inquiry as simple as they can to get on to the next one... The fraudsters contact congressmen and senators too... anything to try to get the fake marriages approved... If you know the politician personally, it could have an impact.. otherwise.. the letter will likely mean nothing to HCMC... read the posts of the formerconoff... he addressed communication from politicians in one post... You need to base your decision on what is best for the both of you and your relationship long term and not because of some money and time spent that are behind you now... The ability to financially support your family long term is a serious concern... My hubby was in prison for a year 8 years ago for felony DUI.. and it didnt even come up at my interview. If you are the beneficiary and she is the AMCit.. then there is some serious trouble on the horizon... DUI and Drug offenses are not handled the same when it comes to IMBRA... As Jim say's this can be a hurdle of sorts and each consulate handles things differently. Some VJ members with Felony convictions have had no issues.. others have had problems... AP along with detailed Q&A with the SO about the previous crimes... USCIS will do a background check to make sure that the petition meets the guidelines.. That is one hurdle but it can be overcome... the next hurdle would be @ NVC as they will likely do another more extensive background check... and then the Consulate may provide another roadblock... not trying to be all gloom and doom here, but please dont take 3 potential drug convictions lightly... I havent seen a case where they have completed the treatment and then petition proceeded from there, yet... Another couple did have to wait along time after the interview for the medical results... the medical was submitted in late Dec... they are still awaiting a decision by the CO. I am amazed at the fact that so many folks have congressional inquiries after a couple months @ USCIS... what happened to waiting until the normal processing time had expired or something odd was going on? We had our congressman inquire when we were in AP @ NVC.. didnt help a bit.... he also made a couple of inquiries while in AP @ the consulate.. still no visible results.. its sad that the inquiries mean less because the system is flooded with inquiries about cases within normal standards... and not outside the norm... I cant see a USCIS worker kicking the file back because there is something in there they cant read, hen every one of the requirements on the checklist have already been met through other proof/documentation provided. it can be a good way to get evidence in the file that would otherwise be discounted or refused by the CO at the interview.... It all depends on the consulate and the possible red flags that may exist in the case... an easy consulate and simple case would not need this type of additional frontloading..
