I have a question for those of you who received your interview letters. Before your letters arrived in the mail, did your online status changed from "your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was placed in line for interview scheduling to your N400, APPLICATION FOR NATURALIZATION was scheduled for interview"? Or did it remain the same and the letter just arrived in your mail box? If the online status did indeed change, did you receive the email and text message notification? Thanks in advance.

It just depends on the type of visa you are/enter the country with. As a CR, you already have your green card and are employment authorized. In my case for example, I came in with a K1 which does not allow work but allow you to obtain a SSC in order to get married and my card has the restriction on it - Now, when i get my green card, I will just have to go there and remove the restriction.

Hello All,

it is strange to be back here 2 years later, it's been an amazing time for me in the US and I can't believe that it's been that long already. I received my appointment for the biometrics and unfortunately the date doesn't quite work for me. I think that I remember that it's fine for one to walk in and get the Bio done early, but wanted to double check.

Any thoughts?

It says it in the instructions so there IS "such language" and "evidence" proving Ambers point.

You don't HAVE to file for citizenship. There is no deadline. It is just that the window opens at 3 years minus 90 days so you can apply then, or months/years/decades later.

**Edit - it is important to note though that you can file at 3 years minus 90 days if you're still married to a USC. If you're not you need to wait for 5 years (minus 90 days).

I guess you're the only one who knows about it cuz everybody else is just confused.
Folks 3 years means 2 years 9 months cuz 3 months they give you to apply for to get ready for, its a window in which you could apply like we did when we applied for ROC.



Well I believe that this is where AmberOctober is basing her logic from, indeed for ROC the USCIS website language is pretty clear:

A conditional permanent resident receives a green card valid for 2 years. In order to remain a permanent resident, a conditional permanent resident must file a petition to remove the condition during the 90 days before the card expires. The conditional card cannot be renewed. The conditions must be removed or you will lose your permanent resident status.



However, there is no such language for the N-400. The reason of this for ROC is to allow one to receive the extension prior to being out of status. In the case of N_400, the assumption is that you are already on a 10 year green card and that the time restriction is not really there since you will not get out of status after 3 years...I am still not totally convinced by the 33 months.

AmberOctober - do you have some evidence proving your point?

ok so from what i understood, u have to be a lawful resident, not a conditional resident (which's mean u have to be approved for removing conditions), and been living with ur spouse for full three years and ( he or she) should be US citizen for 3 years. Correct?


I think that it is 36 months from the approval of your lawful (conditional) residence. But someone above state 2 years and 9 months which I am not sure is correct. I may go ask on the n400 forum !

This is interesting - I am reading the VJ guide about the N400 process and this is what it says:

Spouses of U.S. Citizens

Generally, certain lawful permanent residents married to a U.S. citizen may file for naturalization after residing continuously in the United States for three years if immediately preceding the filing of the application:

the applicant has been married to and living in a valid marital union with the same U.S. citizen spouse for all three years;
the U.S. spouse has been a citizen for all three years and meets all physical presence and residence requirements; and
the applicant meets all other naturalization requirements.



From this I understand that you have to wait for 36 months of continuous residency in the US since approval of I-551 before being eligible for filing...Am I reading this wrong?

I had the same problem when I called them.
Here's the quick way to speak to the customer rep/agent

Dial the 1(800) 375-5283
Press 1 (For English)
Press 1 (Immigration services)
Press 1 (To check the status of application)
Press 2 (Select "you do not know your receipt number")
Press 2 (Select "you cannot locate this number)

You have to select you cannot locate your receipt number so that the automated voice will transfer you to an agent.
Just follow this numbers to press so it will direct you to the agent right away.

Yes that's the number to call. You have to speak with the service agent.
The reason why I called is to follow up the status and make sure that the ball is on their end cause I never heard anything from them since Biometrics so I just wanna make sure that they did not send me anything, RFE, etc and I wasn't able to respond on it. It turned out that I just need to make a call to update my status on their end. Yay!



How do you get access to somebody at this number? I am going round in circles wiht the automated voice...

The doctors that are accredited by the embassy will be mailed to you with packet 3 and 4 - As far as I remember, I think that in Packet 3 they ask you to return the G325 part 1&2 (again!!!) to identify you and also you will have to send a form that acknowledge that you have all the evidence required in packet 4. Return the packet 3 as soon as possible as they will not schedule you for interview before receiving them. Packet 4 is the stuff that you need to bring to the interview with you in addition to what you already have (including the medical exam, chronopost envelope 1KG for them to be able to send you your passport back, medical results, and other forms that you will have to turn in at POE etc....) - do not mail packet 4 - just go there with it.

For the medical exam, in the mail you are going to receive soon, there will be the 4 accredited doctors by the US embassy - they are located in Paris...if you are not from Paris - like me - here is what I recommend:

- Your interview will be scheduled at 1pm - on that day, you can get your medical exams done and get the results on time for the interview - I had my blood sample taken at 8am, my X-Ray at 10am (at a different location) - then I showed up at the doctor's office at noon (with my X-Ray, meanwhile she had received my blood results), she completed my medical exam, I was out at 12.20 and walked to the embassy that was 5 minutes walk from her office. Oh, and the Radiology office is also provided by the embassy, as well as the lab for the blood tests - no way I could have done it in Bordeaux before going in Paris - It;s a pain in the ####, but it works out well, that's where you understand that our medical system is rather amazing smile.gif

If it was in fact made out to USCIS, that is the error. As previously noted it must be made out to "U.S. Department of Homeland Security"



Mine was addressed to USCIS and was cleared within 2 days
