Here in WA State the last day to register is 10/29 BUT that is only if you have never registered before in the state.

US Citizenship General DiscussionRegister to vote
My wife is taking her test and will pass on 10/2 (she knows all 100 questions). The last day for her to register to vote is 10/29. The planned oath ceremony is like 11/13 because I checked and the 2 in October are full.

My question is what is the EXACT law for taking the oath and Citizenship. I want to read it. Does it say that is has to be at some ceremony? If all she has to do is take the oath she can do that with me (well, kidding) but why not a government official like a US Representative or Senator? A Judge? I am thinking that after the test and taking the oath she should be able to register to vote!
Thank you all in advance!

US Citizenship General DiscussionRegister to vote
My wife will have her interview on 10/2/12. The last day to register to vote for the general election is 10/29.
I do not think she can register to vote before she takes her oath. We are here in Spokane WA so from reading the forum it seems that it does matter where you live as when you can take your oath. So here are my questions and I think I will also go to the office and ask too.

1. Has anyone heard of taking the oath personally, one-on-one, like privately, or does it have to be part of some ceremony? It would be great if you can do it after you pass the interview.

2. Do you have to take the oath before you register to vote? I think I will have to check with the laws. I think you are not a US Citizen until you take your oath.

PhilippinesMedical and "time of the month"
QUOTE (GD21 @ Aug 14 2009, 06:44 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
First of all I really don't like talking about this topic but I am curious. My girl is planning on going to do her medical next week. She's says she'll probably start her period next week too. Is this a problem? I am told girls get exams during this time all the time but I read one post on here that says to make sure she's not on her monthly visitor.
I know nothing about this. Any help? Can a girl do the medical if she's on her period?

My wife just went through this! It started for her the morning she left to Manila for the medical exam. They did the x-ray and some stuff then told her to return in a week for the physical exam and the shots. That was 8/12 and all is well.

To save a trip you may want to wait!

She can do the presiminar any time. Only can register and get the sticker after she has visa in hand.
Can do both in one day AFTER she gets her visa.
P400 for seminar and P250 for registration or vis versus.

Thanks,

Saint Luke will keep it if you passed the medical exam, they will forward it to USEM together with the result. Then USEM will send it to you via AIR21 (with your visa in it )days after you passed the interview.

I am glad to hear that it was normal to have them take the passport after the medical exam. This happened to my wife after her medical exam on 8/12. I was very worried because as a US Citizen I never let my passport out of my possession. Her Interview is 9/4 and she is all ready. I have been telling her not to forget to breathe! Deep breaths before the interview.

I have been reading here talk of a CFO sticker. Can someone lead me to info or a link on that. Does she get this before/during/after the interview? She said that after the medical they did put something in the passport.
Thanks all!

PhilippinesNearing the end, 2 questions on fee's and form..
QUOTE (jean2009 @ Aug 16 2009, 08:07 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
She don't need to fill out DS-156 and no need to pay in BDO thats for non-immigrant visa only.

I wish she listened to me and not people she meets at the Medical Exam. I guess now the question is how to get a refund? I will have her bring the receipt to the interview and ask there. crying.gif

PhilippinesNearing the end, 2 questions on fee's and form..
I have a question on the fee my wife in the Philippines just paid.
A history of fee's that we have paid so far is the $400 USD ($355+$45) to the NVC for the application. Then the medical exam was $213.35 USD. I thought the last fee was going to be the visa mail delivery fee for 300 PHP after the interview.
My wife told me she spoke to a woman at the medical exam who said to go to the BDO and pay the "visa immigrant application fee" for $131 USD. When she did that and got a receipt they also gave her a DS-156 form! This lead me to believe she just paid a fee for a non-immigrant visa and we have been doing an immigrant visa (I-130 and she has done the DS-230 I and she will do part II at the interview)
My questions are:
1. Was the fee she paid correct?
2. Does she need to fill out the DS-156?

I left another visa message board website and glad I am here. There are more people on this site and they are very friendly. Thanks.

I just had a fight..as in BIG fight (online) with my husband and my hands are still shaking until now and I'm not really into my senses. That argument really drained me..mentally and emotionally. And it's sooooo hard when you're in "you're so near, yet so far" situation because of internet. And I'm sure I'm not the only one in (and have been) this situation. So what do you guys do when you're in situations like this..? How do you kiss and make-up?

"This to Shall Pass"
I find out that when my wife and I argue there is usually some underlying reason. The biggest one is miss communication or a "lost in translation". The problem was not an issue but simply not understanding the words that were being used.
I also own up to my mistake by asking myself "what is my part in the situation" and promptly admitted it where I was wrong and apologized for my part with no expectations that I will get one in return because that will lead to an instant resentment. If you make it through it all I promise it will make your hearts grow stronger and when you get together nothing will be as bad. If you do believe, pray for guidance and help to the higher power of your choice. Life is always easier when you can let God deal with it. Why let it keep yourself up all night when you can turn it over to God, let him deal with it because he will be up all night anyway! yes.gif

PhilippinesBook round trip but use it only one way?
Great responses. After thinking on it myself for awhile I came up with another concern. If they see a round trip ticket and the return flight to Manila was not used maybe the DHS, FBI, USCIS, all those agencies may think that they have a bad person here wanting to do harm to the USA? Isn't that like some terrorist thing like come to the country and then not leave when supposed to? My sweetie is no terrorist to the USA, but we joke that she is crazy and will only terrorize me headbonk.gif

I will check with the airlines.

I am starting to search for non-stop flights from MNL using PAL and it seems that round trip tickets are like $300 less then one-way.

Anyone hear anything about people getting a round trip ticket and just not showing up for the return flight?

Hi philgirl... trying to be ready to keep myself from missing something when the time is set. Regarding the DS forms, I filled them all online and printed right after. The 156K is an inclusion for the visa application which is specifically required to be filled out by the fiance/e applicant. What are you confused about? Maybe I can help?

Make sure that 156K form is not a "non-immigrant" form. I believe you are doing an "immigrant visa" with your fiance. My wife (in the Philippines) paid a fee and filled out what I think was a DS-157 form and that was all wrong. She was doing a spouse immigrant (I-130).

PhilippinesMy wife got PINK
Well I just got the call from my wife and she got her pink slip!
Here is how it all went and took like 3 minutes.
9/4/09 at 6:30 am was the scheduled time.
Questions were:
What is your name? What is your birthday? When were you married? What is your husband's name? Where does he live? What does he do?
"Congratulations and welcome to the United States of America" the interviewer said. kicking.gif

He said the visa will arrive in under 10 days. She told the American interviewer "ohhh, you are gwapo, like my asawa" I am sure glad she waited to after the interview to say that and not before blush.gif
I want to thank this site for all the information. One great point she took with her was to look into the eyes of the interviewer when answering questions to show you are not lying.

Anyway all, once the visa comes to her in the mail the plane ticket will be purchased. I am off to look at the message boards on plane flights. Any people planning on flying from Manila to the West coast of the USA in 2 weeks?

I am so happy and so in love!

My girl just set her interview sept 2nd, and her interview is sept 23rd!!

I told her to ask for the asap date, and that is what they gave her:)

Ahh good this is what I was hoping to hear ... I thought Ocotober 29 was way off .. I knew it wasn't too long ago they were around 1 month out ... maybe we will have our interview early October than ...

Another question .. how many days should I wait to call the Embassy to set up the interview ... I was told by NVC today that our documents left the building yesterday .... however I did the DHL tracking thing and I didn't see any packages going to Manila on the 1st or 2nd ... so I am thinking the ship date might actually be today?

Thanks for the responses!

I got notified on 7/27 that my wife's interview would be 9/4 (Yes today) and she passed. kicking.gif I will post another on the interview. After 6.5 months I did not want to change the interview date figuring that it might be another chance to mess things up, I did not want to get greedy, and it all worked out. I did call the USC about a few days after I got the letter to see if I could move the date up and they had not received my packet from the NVC yet so they could not help at that time. That is when I just decided to let it happen as it was planned to be.

PhilippinesIs PAL Serious?
Another note on PAL. I sent them an email asking about a 20% one time, immigrant, one-way ticket for my wife that I heard about here on VJ. I also asked if a round trip ticket is less then a one-way can I buy that and not use the return ticket. There was the reply that the 20% is not offered with on-line tickets and I need to read the "fare rules details" to see if there will be any penalties.

I sent them back a reply with one more question and I have not received any reply. Even after sending it to them again. Looks like you only get one chance to get any questions answered by PAL.

I am going to look at the R-T ticket and really read and print the fare rules details. $630 for a R-T ticket is sure better then the $918 one-way! So far the best one-way ticket I have found it Hawaiian Air with a stop over in Hawaii. If I planned it out sooner I would have picked her up there and had another honeymoon. then both of us fly to Seattle.

Keep the tips rolling in.

the process was pretty fast, pre-screener only asked for the cards, remittance reciepts, pics of us together, marriage cert and bc. asked me what address in america will im gonna live and what my husband's work.

waited for only 15 minutes for my final interview, co asked my hubby's work (him and the pre-screener both said wow!), where and when did we meet, does we have children, how long have we been married. that's it and then he said ok...pls go back to your seat and wait...your visa were APPROVED! parang nabingi yata ako kaya tinanong ko siya ulit, sigurado po kayo sir? lol. cant wait to have the visa in my hands and fly home!

I just got a plane ticket on PAL for 9/23 from MNL to San Francisco for my wife. Any friends flying on the same plane?
ski4evrMalePhilippines2009-09-15 21:27:00
PhilippinesIn regards to plane tickets
I tracked the price on a plane fare website that gave me weekly updates and I could follow it like the stock market. I found out it was better to purchase it on a Monday (weekends when most book their flight they raise the price). I wanted a non-stop flight since it was my wife's 1st time flying so the only airlines was PA from manila to LA, San Fran, or Las Vegas. I purchased it on my visa card, emailed her the e-ticket to print, and I made a copy of my Visa Card, Passport, and a note authorizing her to use the ticket to fly here and emailed it to her. Some airlines allow a one time immigrant one-way ticket purchase discount but I was not able to get it with PA. her flight was 9/23/09 and I paid in total $756.60 nonstop from MNL to SFO on a Monday which dropped in price from $930.00 from that Saturday before!
Happy Trails!

We just met with the Priest and he asked if we were "Confirmed". I was confirmed when I was in High School here in America but my wife does not recognize or remember being confirmed or any ceremony of the kind. Does anyone know about being confirmed in the Catholic Church in the Philippines? Could it be just part of the basic education system in the public schools there?

That's interesting. In my wife's case, all the parish wanted was hwr baptismal certificate.

Perhaps your wife was confirmed the same day she was baptized as an infant? If your wife's parents are still alive, have your wife ask them about it.

Thanks! I have been doing some research and that is what I found out! It usually happens in the far east that confirmation & baptism happen the same time. We have her baptism cert. so all should be good blush.gif

I just asked my Asawa and she said get there in the morning, the earlier the better. Do not go there when you have your mens (like she did as it started that day). So she was able to get her urine, blood, and eye tests and then she came back a week later when she got her shots, x-ray and physical exam. OHhhhhh and being my loving wife she reminded me "no sex for 4 weeks after the exam" to avoid possible pregnancy complications  I think she got here on the 30th day  One last thing she just told me. Do not forget your approval letter and money
Relax, it all will be good! Best of luck. God Bless

Philippinespal flight..what are the things need to know?
Speaking only for myself I would say to take 750 PHP and enough to get a bottle of water once in the terminal at the airport. You can bring snacks with you, but many may have to throw some out once you get to the US. Bring US Dollars which will be good at any layover airport and great once you get in the USA. Maybe $20-$30. When I got here with a 100 PHP bill I sent it back to my Asawa and they took it out of the letter???!!!!
Happy travels

PhilippinesBought property in the Philippines?
Thank you all for your posts! I will give more details. This is in Pampanga. We are buying a vacant lot now but will build on it after the next rainy season. The tax question came up by my financial planner since americans can "gift" only $13,000 a year tax free. That is why my wife needs to be on the paperwork so it is NOT a gift to her parents. Now that is for the US taxes. Thanks for the post on Property tax. My wife just called the PHP and they are totally on top of that! They have a cousin that works at the city hall that they pay some greese money to and she told them about that. Good info! Also they said I will not be on the title (which is what I wanted anyway) so good info there also by that post. I am glad to say after 3 years we are hapily married, and blessed by the Catholic faith so there will be no divorce :)Tim/mav are correct. Marital community property here, definately not there!

All great info friends. Thank you again.

PhilippinesBought property in the Philippines?
Greetings all,
My wife is from the Philippines and we want to buy an investment property for us to retire to in 20-25 years. Also her parents will live there now. Has anyone done this already and would be willing to help us avoid any potential problems? I know that a PHP national has to be a part buyer/owner (land can't be 100% owned by American)so her parents and my wife will be the signer. We hope that they cans send up papers for her to sign and send back. Other questions would be:
Taxes? for US Taxpayers on the 1040? and PHP taxes (I do not think they have any if not in a gaited community. I told my financial adviser that this was an investment property and not a "gift".
Liability? I know Filipinos are not sue happy like Americans but what if someone gets hurt, can they come after me and my wife?

Any good/bad stories about buying land? I am glad we are not doing this from here and the parents will see the property personally.
Thanks in advance,
SKI

That's really odd. Why does having her menses preclude her from having immunizations? One has nothing to do with the other. Is it a cultural thing? I'm just asking out of curiosity as I have not heard of this before, and I am a nurse at a pediatric office where I give shots all day long, including to teenagers currently menstruating.

I believe it must be from blood loss which means loss off some of the strength of the shots. When I got my immunizations to travel to the Philippines they said I should not donate blood to the blood bank for that reason. I donate all the time and I give a pint of blood whenever I can. With the Menses is it possible to lose a pint? I don't believe so but I have to plead male ignorance innocent.gif

CORRECTION!
I spoke to my wife and the menses has noting to do about the shots but they could not do the physical exam. The shots they were planning on doing the next day so they told her to just come back in a week and get the physical and shots in a week.
