CanadaAfter NOA1
Hi everyone-

Ok, this is my first posting. My Canadian fiance and I filed the k1 Visa in the beginning of April and just received our NOA1. good.gif Obviously, we are very excited but are unclear as to the next steps!
What do we need to collect for the interview?
Do we just wait to hear from the US consulate in Vancouver to schedule an interview?
Is there anyway we can be proactive?

We are considering having a ceremony in April of 2010 in Canada, once the visa is received, and then making it official in the States.

Based on experience, how long does it usually take once you have received your NOA1 to schedule an interview? My fiance wants to have the ceremony first in Canada and then move into the States with the visa.

Given that the k1 visa expires in 6 months, do you think an April 2010 wedding is doable or will we have to get married earlier like in february or march?

CanadaAfter you have filed the K1
Hi Everyone-

I have a couple of questions I hope can be answered. First off as a backdrop, we filed our k1 visa and received the NOA1 in the middle of April. My fiance lives in Kamloops, BC so she will be using the Vancouver consulate. Here are some of my questions...

1.) Now that we have received the NOA1, what do we do now? Wait to be contacted for an interview? What should I have prepared leading up to the interview?

2.) Provided we do not get any requests for more information, when do you think we would receive the fiance visa, given we filed it in the beginning of April?

3.) Once she is in the US with the fiance visa and we are married, can she start working right away? What is the process for her to start working? She is a hair stylist and we are hoping to get her started asap when she gets into the states.

4.) Once we are married, can she receive health insurance? Drive a car?

Sorry everybody, I have so many questions it is not even funny! I know you all will be a huge help!! smile.gif

CanadaSome important questions involving my Kamloops Bride to be
Hey everybody!

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I have a couple of questions that hopefully I can get some clarity on. My Fiance and I were recently engaged and have begun the conversations as to when and where we would like to get married. We filed for the k1 in the beginning of April and presume, if all goes well, to have the visa by mid-October. Obviously, that is subject to change. So, since we are trying to determine the smoothest process in getting married and starting life together in Washington DC, my first question is

1.) We are planning to have a ceremony in Kamloops, Canada in December and then leaving from there with, Lord-willing, a k1 Visa in hand. Once we crossed the border, we are planning on making the marriage official by applying for a marriage license. Does this present a problem?

2.)If we have guests that come from the US and are questioned by the Canadian Border Patrol as to the nature of their visit and they say they are attending our wedding, will the Canadian Patrol notate that? I guess I am concerned we might be screwing ourselves by having a ceremony in Canada before getting married in the US with our k1. Does anyone have any advice on this?

3.) If we do decide to have a ceremony in Canada before entering the US, do we just lie and tell them we are not married?

Now, for a different set of questions that is not exactly related.

4.) Once we are married and living in Washington DC. how long is it before my fiance can start working?

5.) What does she have to do to be able to have a job, have a driver's license and receive health benefits?

6.) How long does my fiance have to wait before being able to go back home to Kamloops to visit family and friends?

If these questions can be answered, I would greatly appreciate it! Thank you guys! smile.gif

CanadaIs there any way to track the status of your visa?
We filed the k1 visa in April and received the NOA1 in mid-april. Is there any way to track this process? And my follow up question is, what can we do while we are preparing for the interview. I want to be on offense up until the day she starts living in the States. I guess I would love feedback and a step by step process that others took to ensure smooth-sailing once we are married in the States.

What forms should I have ready before her interview?

What forms need to be filed after we get married?

Thank you so much for your help!! smile.gif

CanadaK1 Processing Time
Hi guys-

So my fiance and I have decided to have our wedding in LA in January. My fiance is from Kamloops Canada and it is way too hard for my family to get into that city during the dead of winter. We filed for the K1 Visa in mid-April and have received our NOA1. Since we recieved our NOA1, I have not heard anything. I have a couple of questions that I hope can merit some great advice.

Should we be doing anything while waiting for the NOA2?
How long after receiving the NOA2 does it take to be scheduled for an interview?
Is there any way to check the status of your Visa application?
My buddy works for some bigwig immigration lawyers in DC and they said I should receive a k1 visa in 3-6 months. Obviously, we are closing in on 4 months. How long does it really take? If they wanted a Request for more information, when would I receive that?

I look forward to hearing your feedback.

CanadaWedding Cruise
My fiance and I are hoping to get our K1 Fiance Visa in Decmeber and we would have our wedding in California in February. I am wondering if we had our wedding aboard a cruise ship, would that present a problem? Would border patrol create an issue if the cruise stayed within US waters? Any feedback you can give would be much appreciated. Thank you!! smile.gif

I am wondering what the process is for my fiance, once we are legally married in the US, to start working. We are hoping to get the k1 visa sometime in November of this year. Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you!

So what you are saying is they will book the appointment and send the dates to be interviewed to my fiance? For some reason, I thought it was up to us to reach out to the consulate and schedule an appointment.

How long after you receive your NOA2 do they expect you to come in for your interview?

CanadaNOA2!!!
Hey everybody!!

We received our NOA2 in the mail last week. We are very excited but I have a question. On the letter, it mentioned I have until December before it expires. Does that mean I have until December to book an interview at the consulate? Also, if and once my fiance is approved for the visa, she has 6 months to come into the States and get married, correct? If you guys could answer these questions, I would be appreciative. Thank you!

CanadaAfter your K1 Application is approved
Hi everybody-

I hope everyone is doing well and is finding success in bringing their spouse/fiance over to the US. I have a couple of questions I hope can be answered here. My fiance is from Kamloops, Canada and is plannign to move to the US. We received approval of our k1 application and are now beginning the process of getting the correct medical form together and what not. I am wondering if someone can detail what we need to do from here so we can be prepared for her interview.

- What forms do we need to fill out? Can you provide links for the appropriate forms?
- Given I am American, what forms/prep do I need to have done?
- What does my Canadian fiance need to bring to her interview?
- How long is it before she is eligible to come into the States to be married?

If you can assist, I would greatly appreciate it. smile.gif

Canadaevidence of support
Hey everybody-

I am about to send my fiance, who is from Canada, a letter from my company specifying my salary and what not. it is dated for October 29th. Given, she will probably not have her interview until February of next year, will it matter that the letter is dated in October? Also, I have provided the paystubs they requested but they are from October as well. Do they want the most recent paystub and letter from your job?

Also, on a random note. Once my fiance is here in the US married to me. Is she aloud to leave the US? How long does she have to be here before we leave to visit other countries? Is she allowed to work in another country? We are thinking about working for a year or two in antoher country and want to know if that is feasible.

Please advise, thanks! smile.gif

CanadaQuestion about options moving forward

She can stay as long as the authorized period granted to her upon entry. For Canadians arriving without a visa it is typically 6 mos. There are many jobs available for non-citizens, however there are no jobs available for non-citizens who do not possess work authorization. A standard "tourist" entry does not provide work authorization or the ability to get it.

Well can she come and work in the US while still in the process of applying for the K1? Also, how would she go about trying to find a job in DC?

CanadaQuestion about options moving forward
Hey all

Well, a lot has happened since I last posted. My fiance and I broke up. :( However, her and I are still exploring seeing each other if we are able to spend more time together in person. Potentially, she would move from Kamloops, BC to Washington DC. Here is where the problem is, we have received our NOA1, had gotten all the necessary immunixations and were waiting to set up an interview at the Vancouver consulate but are unsure of how long she could stay in DC without using the K1 Visa.

Does anyone know our options moving forward? Are there any jobs available to non-citizens I could look into? Will we have to start the K1 process over again or can we delay the interview process while she hangs out in DC. Please let me know any advice you can give. Thanks.
