CanadaURGENT!! - Documents for Interview in Montreal
Thank you ALL for all your insight and experiences and advice.
I think i have the evidence part covered, and yes i'm probably being over worried.

What is bugging my USC fiancee, is her Letter of Intent to marry, being 6days over the 30days window(as specified on the Packet4 Letter).
I think it will be ok since it's such a short time form the 30days, but she is a bit worried, and wondering if she should send me another letter STAT.

I appreciate you all very much!

Cheers,

CanadaURGENT!! - Documents for Interview in Montreal
Hello all,

I have some last minute questions regarding Documents, evidence of relationship for my Interview (at Montreal Consulate) coming up December 12th, that I would really appreciate some advice and peace of mind on.

1) Letter of Intent to Marry form US Citizen - stated in the Packet#4 letter, the Letter of Intent (from US Citizen) must be signed within 30days before the Interview date. What if this is dated 6 days outside of the 30days? (ie: Interview is 12/12/2011, letter of intent (US citizen) is dated 11/06/2011. Will that hinder the approval?
My (beneficiary) letter of intent will be within the 30days.

2) Evidence of relationship - We do not have phone records as we always use SKYPE (Video/audio when home at same time, and texting when not at home at same time), and Windows Live messenger (when not at home at same time), for all of our communication.
How much evidence do I bring with me? I mean, I have a years worth of transcripts (Live Messenger, Skype - recent screen shots of us Video/audio chatting and chat logs, FB, photos), and that is like over 500+ pages of printouts.
So my question is, how far back and how much do I printout? Should I only pick out excerpts (1 or 2 conversations), per month up to just prior to my Interview? I don't want to OVERKILL the Consulate with a huge pile of Printouts.

Thank you in advance.

CanadaWhich shipping company to use?
Thanks for the list link.
And for the reassurance.

I do know that i must POE first, then send the appropriate forms (1) The first is a completed CBP Form 3299, 2) the second is a copy of either a validated I-94 or the validated K-1 visa to show that I have entered the US) to the moving company for them to ship.

CanadaWhich shipping company to use?

What items would you be bringing that would be dutiable? Like a wine collection? You may be able to find your answer in this list of FAQ's:

CBP FAQ's - Moving to the US

I plan on using a Moving company, and Im bringing household goods, personal goods. (NO tobacco, firearms or alcohol or medications, no food or animals etc etc). Just my "stuff".

But i read if things are less that a year old (like my Laptop, Printer, Paper shreeder, couple xbox games) that duty is to be paid.

Since i am immigrating/moving (on a K1 Visa), i dont know if processes are different than a visiting trip. I read alot online but overly confused.

Hello everyone,

All this information on how to moving companies, quotes etc etc, to move your belongings to the US While immigrating is great.
However...my concern is regarding DUTY to be paid on certain things, and how that is taken care of (if required).

Can anyone offer advice?

Thanks,

CanadaMRV Fee payment problems with CSC
Ditto to ALL of the above issues. Bot i didnt try the telephone Payment method yet. I want to do it online. And i can pay in US currency at the interview, but as you all have mentioned, its all very convoluted and frustrating.

...sigh.

But I only just finished doing all the forms for Packet 3 today, and sending it in ASAP.
Do I not make the payment now? Or do I have to wait for Packet 4 (Interview Letter) first, then snag an appointment on the CSC site, and maybe then the Payment option on the site will appear?

Cheers to all and good luck. We all need it.

Hello All,

I sent in my Packet 3 last week. Today I received a letter which i thought would be my Interview/Packet 4. It was not.
The Letter stated that I must now send in:
- DS-160 https://ceac.state.gov/genniv
- The Confirmation receipt regarding DS-160 form https://ceac.state.g...tate.gov/genniv
- the Guide for the DS-160 http://travel.state....forms_4230.html
- 2 Passport photos http://travel.state....toreq_5334.html
- Photocopy of the Passport Biographic page

All of these MUST be sent along with all the other forms (for K1) when sending in your Packet 3.
I dont think this is an RFE, but just missing forms/docs that should have been included with the Packet 3.

Thought I would share.

Cheers

Had you not completed the DS160 online previously?

And that's new (or subject to the whim of the person processing) because I did not send passport photos or a photocopy of the passport biographic page! Good to know :)

Yes, I did complete the DS-160 online. Then sent my Packet 3. But didn't send the above in my previous post.

And i had issues on the CSC website to pay my MRV. I emailed them and they sent me the Scotia Bank deposit slip (paid yesterday).

Seems some kinks need to be ironed out in this process and their websites.
But its a small hurdle.

Yes, you should do it. I did it as well. If you look at the Montreal website here http://montreal.usco...ument=visa_pkt3 it's still a requirement. I had my interview only two months ago and it was required.

At the very least, you won't be harmed by filling out just another form, but the process would potentially be harmed if you were to neglect it. I would strongly suggest you fill it out :)

On the USCIS website link you provided here http://travel.state....forms_4230.html it states that K applicants do not use form DS-160, but then right below it says in Montreal they have their own requirements and you should check their website to see what they want- that is you have to fill out BOTH the DS 160 and DS 156 if you go through Montreal. In fact, it looks like that message is there to inform K applicants going through Montreal to fill out the DS 160 as well, because there is often a lot of confusion regarding the forms. I assure you they want BOTH the DS 156 and the DS 160! :P

Remember every individual consulate has its own procedures and requirements in addition to what USCIS outlines. If you were going through another embassy you would not need the DS-160.

This definately settles my concious. I mean, have it 85% filled out...but that one note on UCSIS really made no sense. Yes, i was one of the confused individuals. I was going back n forth and scratching my head worrying what to do. My gut felt I should do it, but my mind was playin tricks...or maybe the butterflies in my stomach...lol.

I greatly appreciate your insight. I can finally move ahead with confidence.

cheers

Hello All,

I am in the process of doing the forms required for Packet 3 (as per listed above in the Montreal Guide step 4).
I have filled out forms out except the DS-160.
I am doing the DS-160 online right now (as the Link - https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/ - from the Montreal consulate site.
However, I just read on this site - http://travel.state....forms_4230.html - that I should not do the DS-160 online if I am applying at the U.S. Consulate General Montreal have different application form requirements. Review information on the U.S. Consulate General Montreal website to learn more. http://montreal.usco...ument=visa_pkt3

I feel I am running around in circles trying to figure out if I should be doing the DS-160 online or not?
Im so confused, and this is the last form I need to fill out

Please help.

Based on the form I mentioned above that you need to fill out, you need it for your packet three (see this form: http://www.state.gov...ation/82063.pdf)

Well, I just stumbled across this site, and it confirms the Long Form BC is required.

The birth certificate you require must state your parents names etc on it, i believe thats the only difference between it and the short / wallet sized copies. As for the checklist, i did not send any of that in either i just brought it all with me to the interview. The girl will ask you for everything when your there like the bc and the copy, etc.

I only asked because for the I-129F petition, all i sent in was a copy of the small BC. and we didnt get an RFE.
I suppose its different for the interview.

And on the DS-156 form, doesnt specify a Long Form, only says "Your Birth Certificate".

Thanks again. You all have probably saved me one less headache.
Bryan+ChristineMaleCanada2011-09-17 15:31:00
CanadaCanada Immigration & K1 Guide for Montreal

Yes you need the long form of your birth certificate.....I went to Vital Statistics and got it the same day. You can order them online go to your provincial government site. The long form has your parents names on it, unlike the wallet size one. In Nova Scotia the long form birth certificate cost me $35.90. Make sure to make a photo copy of it before you go to the interview so they will give you back the original. You will need it again for AOS.

...sigh. Guess I will have to do it online then, since I do not live in the province i was born in anymore.
But thank you for clarifying this. Curious, does it specify that you need the Long Form version anywhere? Or is this from word of mouth or form other VJ experiences? Regardless, im glad i caught this topic and saw the Birth Cert question.
Geez, they sure don't make this easy do they.

Greatly appreciate the help from all of you folks. :)

CanadaCanada Immigration & K1 Guide for Montreal

You need the long form of the birth certificate for the interview the short one will not do. You take your birth certificate and a copy of it to the interview with you, they will keep the copy and give you back the original. All you send in packet 3 is the checklist signed and dated with X's in everything that applies to you and you will have at the interview. The forms that were required, 2 passport photos and a copy of the bio page of your passport. Everything else goes to the interview with you. Montreal has been known to lose things. Make copies of all the forms that you are sending for yourself.

Long form of Birth Certificate? Yikes!! I only have the small (non laminated) paper card/wallet size. Im not sure I even know what the long form is exactly.
So you are saying I need to contact the Canadian GOV and get a "long form" of my Birth Cert, for the interview?

Please advise.
thanks.

"7. Scheduling Interviews
The website (Referred to on VJ as the CSC site) is here: http://usvisa-info.c...country_welcome
You can register at any time once you have your MTL case #, but do NOT schedule an interview until you’ve been told P4 has been sent out. You’ll be prompted to select your reason for immigrating, and you can chose either of the K1 options (Permanently immigrate or ready to schedule). If you chose “Permanently Immigrate” you will need to pay the $350 fee via credit card before you can schedule. If you would rather pay the fee at the interview (US cash only, exact change!) just choose “ready to schedule”
You will follow the prompts to schedule your interview as well as select the DHL branch you wish to pick up your Visa at.
If all goes well, you will get an interview date. A confirmation email will be sent to you, make sure to hold on to that, as you will need to bring it with you to Montreal."

Im confused, and need clarification please. Im doing the K1 visa and packet 3 should be in my hands soon. When registering for DHL, there are 2 sections under the +Canadian Citizen. (Non-Immigrant Visa Canadian, and Immigrant Visa Canadian).

Which one do I choose? Non-immigrant has the "All other Visa Types (Go to port of entry)". Does that include K1?
Immigrant Visa actually lists a "Permanently Immigrate to the United States (Fiance – K1/K2)"

I just want to be sure i pick the correct one. I have my MTL number.

Thanks,

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresOn the road to aquiring a K1 Visa
Hello everyone!! :D

Just thought I would drop a line and say that Christine, the woman of my dreams (L) , and I finally got all our information and documents together for the I-129F petition. She mailed it this morning, and soon to be expecting approval for my K1-Visa interview.

Since the time we got engaged, we looked into the whole process of what is involved to being able to live together. It took a lot longer than we anticipated. After some quick research on the usual USCIS websites, getting the I-129F form...filling it out, we noticed there is a lot more to it than we expected. Everything was very confusing for us both and the instructions were not exactly to the point which left us with a lot of questions on what to do on certain parts of the application steps, etc etc.

Thankfully, Christine found VisaJourney.com. This resourceful website and everyone's experiences and advice made EVERYTHING much more clear to understand and took alot of the stress of the unknown away.

So I would like to say thank you to all the members for your help and sharing your stories. And to Visajourney.com for this great tool to help people in Love be able to be together.

And now WE get to be part of it too, and hopefully our story will help others as well. :)

Sincerely
Bryan

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK1 Visa - I-129F / NOA2 approved today
Hello All,

We received our email notification today in regards to our I-129F (for K1 Visa) Petition, that is was Approved.
That being said, we have to wait 3 weeks or so before the Petition gose to the NVC, the to the US Consulate in (Montreal in my case).

So my question is, should I wait for the PACKET 3 to be mailed to me before registering on the CSC website? (to schedule interviews and register with DHL)?

My guts tells me I should wait since I have not filled out the necessary forms/PACKET 3, or organized my Evidence of Relationship materials yet.

2nd question. Is there an expiry time (window of opportunity) that could pass me by, if I need more time to get forms and other documents filled out?

Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance.

Hello All,

I received my Packet 3 today!! Yay! And I might be repeating this quesiton i think, but its go time now. :D

I went on the http://canada.usvisa-info.com website, to setup my account, and in the Packet 3 letter it states to choose 'Permanently Immigrate to the US'. There are Five of these 'Permanently Immigrate to the US'. Im a Canadian citizen, but I have not filled out my Visa application yet, nor did I pay the MRV. So im confused which one i choose at this step in the process. I assume it is the K1/K2, since that is purpose of immigrating of course.

Canadian Citizen
+ Non-Immigrant Visas (Canadian)
- Immigrant Visas - (Canadian)

Please select the category that best describes the purpose of your travel.

Permanently Immigrate to the United States (Fiance – K1/K2)
Permanently Immigrate to the United States (Scheduled by NVC)
Permanently Immigrate to the United States (Ready to Schedule)
Permanently Immigrate to the United States (Diversity Visa)
Permanently Immigrate to the United States - Register for Courier Services Only

Thank you

If you used a lawyer to submit your petition, it might go to the lawyer's office. Mine packet 3 did. The "packet 3" was just a small regular envelope with instructions in it. I am going through the montreal consulate.

Nope. We did the I-129F ourselves. My address (in toronto) is present on it as well. So, not sure why Packet 3 was sent to my fiancee in the US.
Montreal is a bit wonky from what i read on here, so i just wanted to see if anyone else had the same problem. My fiancee is going to send the Packet 3 to me anyways.

The packet goes to the foreign fiancée, to the address you provided on your 129 forms. Same for packet 4.

Ok weird. Because my Fiancee in the US receieved the packet, like 3 days after the NOA2 was approved. But i am still waiting for the packet form Montreal Consulate. But it has only been a week since the NOA2.

Just odd it went to her first. Im sure my address here in Toronto, is in the I-129F.
