US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionThe dreadfull cost of plane tickets
... when I looked on there it was over $2,000 for me :P I found $1,086 for 1 way 2 people tickets with CheapOAir.com I think. but of course my situation is 1 way 1 person ticket, and 2 1way 2ppl tickets, lol Orbits, Cebu Pacific Air, and CheapOAir, total trip estimated $2400-3500 including cabs and hotels.... From Nashville to Davao, Davao to Incheon, Incheon to Nashville, lol So dunno if that helps anybody or if it does, especially those looking to go to Philippines.... course my reason for Korea is I'm military and need to get the wife enrolled in the system, so that leg of the trip could be removed from your plans... maybe just a roundtrip for u and see if airlines can get 1 way for your spouse on same flight or something *shrugs*

just my 2 cents

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresName on Visa/Passport
2 questions:

1.) WHen applying for the IR1 visa, does my wife need to put a new name with my family name? If so does she need to update her passport to reflect the same to return to the Philippines when she does/wants to

2.) Kind of goes with #1, does she need to update her passport before/after the visa application process

OR

Does she leave her current name on both and get her name changed when she arrives in states, and then what? Update both passport and visa again?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresHow soon can you gather/request certain documents???
and what of military? we don't necessarily have employment letters (would initial or new re-enlistment contracts work with that? Or should I make up a letter and get it signed by my immediate supervisor?)

What about those of us in the US Military? Does our initial (or re-enlistment) contracts count as an employment letter? ... 0.o

Well I can attempt to answer Question 3 as I am looking into this myself but is a bit different I think. I am getting 1 way from where I am into Davao (this is after she gets a CR1 or K-3 visa first... not sure which is faster at this point) then we fly to Korea to get her in-processed into the military system so I can cover her in all the medical and other bullcrap, so that's a 1 way for 2 ppl from Davao to korea, then after we're done there its 1 way, 2 people from Korea to U.S. ... total costs was estimated about $2500-3500 for flights + cab + hotels using Continental, Cebu Pacific Air, and Korean Air. As for your situation... I roughly estimated $1089 one way, 2 people (you and wife) from Korea to U.S. so that's not too bad I guess. Just check out Orbits, CheapOAir, and Cebu Pacific Air for good rates :)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNSO Documents (help?)

-Wife said they get the NSO marriage certificate a year later ... I do hope it doesn't take that long, she can just request the NSO certified marriage certificate (and from my understanding of other posts a CENMAR too?)

Think these are the only NSO documents she needs, she already has the NSO birth certificate (unless the other posts are correct too in which the embassy is stingy on the date the certificate was printed and issued......) also I can't find it anymore but there was a thread somewhere on here indicating all the NSO documents and 3 at the end were something to do with the spouse being ready to go into the U.S.? Are these special classes she has to go through to get these certificates, and like her other documents request an NSO copy? because I did hear something about her having to take a class or something... how long does that(those) take? And would she take it anytime when she's getting the NSO documents or when she goes up to Manila for her medical and appointment (before/after)?

... found it: http://www.visajourn...on_Requirements the CFO Guidance and Counseling?

Okay one in Davao... that works, thanks ^_^ oh... and as soon as I asked where she can go to do that, her sister and mom popped online, and I asked them lol. Her sister says she already knows where to go to get that (apparently she did get a NSO birth certificate lol) ... well that makes things a bit easier for the later date. Thanks guys/gals ^_^

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNSO Documents (help?)
Emigration Requirements

The only reason I ever knew about this because of one of those ads of lawer like people to help speed up the process for rediculous amounts of money... so.. how do we get NSO documentation of our marriage certificate, birth cert (I think she may actually already have an NSO birth cert)? Is there a specific office she has to go to or something? Wife is filipina in the southern part (Mindanao? I think that's the spelling) The guy on the phone suggested she gets her NSO documents before going to Manila so she doesn't make wasted trips, but might still have to stay up there for a week or two while waiting on appointment(s) or something.

Guess I'm asking at the NVC stage after sent to the embassy and she's been notified of an appointment date where she must then get her medical and go up there. I'm already preparing her for I guess the earlier stages of all those boring documents we have to fill out and helping by explaining to her what some of the stuff means, lol. Not that she needs help, but it makes me feel better to continue being active in this and all excited to get my wife over here :P But anyways, so yeah, where and how do we get all the NSO documents for her interview? and what all does she need to get them?

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR1/CR1/K-3
Kk will wait and see if any filipino-related visa couples are here who can answer the other questions, thanks :)

Also:: "List Husband/Wife And All Children of Relative" on the I-130 forms... if I am the petitioner and I AM the husband, do I still have to put me in there or is that too redundant? lol

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR1/CR1/K-3

"The K-3 is no longer the recommended path. Improved processing times for the I-130
and the use of e-mail at the NVC stages have made the K-3 obsolete. The CR/IR-1 visa
does not take longer than the K-3 anymore, costs less (no adjustment of status
necessary) and provides work authorization upon arrival. For those reasons the CR/IR-1
is usually the better choice for most applicants. The future of the K-3 is currently
being reviewed by USCIS and until it is abandoned officially it is not required or
even recommended that you submit an I-129f or pursue the K-3." - How To Bring Your..

... is this true? Should I just go ahead and file the necessary documents for the CR1 visa and just forget about the K-3, save time and money? And if so, anyone know how long these IR1/CR1 visas are taking now days? am I still looking at 1 or 2 years like some people's timelines are showing (back in '05?) Or closer to 6-9 months like some websites suggest it might take? I know its going to be a CR1 because we just recently got married last October and might even create my own timeline, heh. The documents, fees, and all that is not a problem for us, just the timeframe which is why I'm asking.

Actually, also if there is anybody here who is filipino or trying to get a filipino spouse (or filipina I guess would be more correct term for me) to the U.S. and/or have gotten their spouse to the U.S. if you could help us:

* Is the listed medical center on the Manila website the only place she can get her medical done?
* Is the embassy in Manila the only place she can go? Thought there was a consulate in Cebu or somewhere closer... or even if the Beauro of Immigration could do anything (the BoI is a lot closer to her than flying to Manila everytime they need her for something

Unless she can knockout the medical, interview, and police certificates (fingerprinting and background check I think?) all up there within same visit ...

I don't know any and all help would be appreciated!

-G
