Hang in there! Sebastian left nearly a month ago, but we're holding up okay. I bought a plane ticket to England for New Year's and having a definite date to look forward to is a big help. You're lucky for having so much time together, don't forget that! smile.gif

Yeah, maybe you all look at my post with disgust that I'm already complaining before he's even left. I know I'm lucky that he's here with me now, but it's really hard knowing that he's leaving again. Everything feels just perfect with him here - it's our home now. I dread waking up without him there next to me. Sorry if I sound like a whiner, I just know how much it's going to suck when the rug is pulled out from beneath me. We both cry when we're apart. sad.gif

As for wedding dresses, Julius Bridal has a few knockoffs that are supposedly really nice. I've been looking at the forums on indiebride.com and they're very helpful too. What kind of dress are you looking for? Houseofbrides.com also seems fairly popular and very reputable.

Basically I'm looking for something affordable and not overly fancy. I've seen that HouseofBrides.com website - it's not bad, but I find it really hard to search for dresses. I wish they'd put them all under one place and let me sort by price.

A couple sites I've found:

I was just looking at flights to Berlin 12/18 to 1/08 on Delta from Spokane and they're $753 including taxes. Maybe if you buy early you'll be set.

We're holding up good here. Going back to Brasil in November and the way timelines look things will be taken care of by February so it's all good. The worst part for me is going back to talking on the webcam after being together. That sucks. Good luck with the 19th coming up.

Yeah, the prices are better with earlier bookings. We can't really book until we know the financial situation, and that depends on how quickly he finds work when he returns to Bremen. He takes his A+ certification tests next week, and if all goes well, that should help with the job hunt. We should know by October. I'm glad you and your SO get to spend more time together. It's good you have something to look forward to!

And this is probably TMI, but I will never drive to Spokane for a flight during winter in Idaho again... I'm sure Cham has an idea of what I mean by the snow here in Idaho. Last winter I got stuck overnight in Spokane coming home from Christmas. Barely was able to drive from the airport parking lot to an airport hotel because there was soooo much snow (and every road was closed beyond the airport). So I'll be flying out of my regional airport or not risking it at all. tongue.gif

It's so nice to have this place to lend me an ear! Thank you all. heart.gif

Checking in again, July filers...

How's everyone holding up? I find myself wincing when I look at the calendar - I see the 19th creeping up on me - the day my darling has to go back to Germany. I have to find ways not to think of it. I told him not to tell me he has to use things up and not buy more at the grocery store. I hate the idea that he has to go away again, and we're not sure we can afford another visit after he goes. His family keeps asking if I can make it there for Christmas. I sure hope so!

I've been introducing Andy to American politics and government with all of the political stuff on TV lately. He told his best friend the other day that he knows more about American politics than German now laughing.gif I told him this will prepare him for when he can vote in the 2012 presidential election. tongue.gif

Also, I wanted to ask if any of you were browsing wedding dresses online? I'm trying to find an inexpensive place to order one. I have a couple sites bookmarked, but wondering if anyone else has some, too.

I'd just order them to make it simple and avoid any problems. smile.gif

I was wondering if anybody started putting their I-134 together yet? I was going to do it right away, but now I'm thinking that maybe I should wait until we know the interview date. Does anybody know how long I-134 is good for? I've been searching for that information high and low, but the only reference I found on this Forum or elsewhere is that it shouldn't be older than 1 year. However, this is unofficial info and I don't know if we would run into any problems if all my financial paperwork is dated August and the interview takes place in, say, December. Called USCIS customer service and they said they didn't know the answer because my question was 'too specific'. huh.gif

Since I'm not expecting NOA2 until at least the end of November, I won't start gathering this stuff for awhile. Everything I've read on the board indicates they like the paperwork with the I-134 to be quite recent, such as paystubs up to a few weeks before the interview. I figured I would gather tax documents at the beginning of November, the letters of employment at the end of November, and bank statements and paystubs once I receive NOA2. It takes most people a month or more between NOA2 and the interview date, so that's plenty of time to get those documents.

I'm like you - I like to be ahead of everything on this process. But I don't want to do this stuff twice, either. I'd hold off for a little bit, because the whole point of the I-134 is to show you can support your fiancé at the time of the interview. Outdated documents won't do that.

Hang in there, we'll make it!

Cham: Sorry, I don't know since it's a govt program. You might ask in the main K1 forum this question. I know it depends on where you enter it in your taxes on the 1040...

Madmag12: timeline.gif Here's the link. It helps everyone and will give you an estimate on when to expect your NOA2. You can add your multiple touches under the Comments section (you can look at mine as an example if you like).

Hello everyone. Hope everyone is doing well. I have a question for anyone who has traveled during the paperwork process. We have received our NOA1 and are patiently (not really) awaiting our NOA2. Alan would like to come over for about 3 or 4 weeks around the holidays this year, but we are not sure if this is possible. We have tried e-mailing the Sydney consulate because they are the only people who e-mail us back, but we havent got a real direct answer. Has anyone traveled during this process? He will be coming from Australia to Florida. Can we do this during this process or do we have to wait?

Corinthians is right -- traveling on the VWP is no problem during K1. There are plenty of people here on the forums who have done it multiple times. The only thing it be careful with is for the non-US citizen to carry proof of ties to his/her home country on the travels to ensure entry. This would be some things like proof of employment, a lease, bank statements to show you have funds to support yourself, etc. Long stays seem to cause more trouble than short stays, also.

My fiance has worked for the past few years as an IT engineer in France. I live in the Bay Area, very close to Silicon Valley, so I don't think that he will have a lot of trouble finding work once he gets an EAD (or whatever it is smile.gif). Until he finds that type of work he's thinking about tutoring French or math or science or maybe he'll just taking some IT classes at a community college so he can learn English IT lingo. We've also talked about all the housework he can do (hehehehe).

I spoke to my mom (who is an HR manager in a company that hires lots of foreign nationals) and she said to make sure my fiance brings official transcripts from his school. Once he gets here he has to hire a service to translate them and verify them...I'm sure there is a thread somewhere on VJ about this. I'll search around.

The one good thing about the long wait from NOA1 to NOA2 is having lots of time to get together all the random documents...

Aubrey, what is A+ certification? It is very cool that you and your fiance are spending so much time together. I am very jealous. smile.gif Lately, I've been missing my SO so so so much. If he doesn't call me or text me or email me fast enough I get really annoyed. But I know it's not his fault. It's just me missing him. I need to relax smile.gif Yesterday, we talked about all the things we have to do when he moves here and he was really excited. That made me feel much better. Ahhhh, the wonderful world of immigration.

Yeah, there's several threads on translating/verifying overseas credentials. I bookedmarked the two sites I saw recommended a couple times:
http://www.edperspec.../evaluation.php
http://www.wes.org/immigrants/faq.asp

In the IT world, certifications are pretty desirable. A+ is sort of the basic cert for hardware and software knowledge and maintenance. Lots of IT people have it in addition to other certifications that branch off from there - like Network+, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator, etc. We're just starting Andreas with the A+ since it's good for a PC Tech job which has good availability and pay (something like 30K I've read). Besides, the 1000 page book he's study is enough for him to manage to complete in the next few weeks! His job will need to be flexible since we don't know where we're going to end up moving to for my more specialized field next year (graphic design).

And yeah, I'm fortunate my SO was able to come for such a long stay. He was job hunting and after the student visa route failed (too expensive!), I knew we had a long wait ahead of us that I couldn't handle. It's hard financially... but I'd give my last dime to be with him. I still dread when he leaves next month and hope we can somehow afford another visit, even if it's short.

Hello everyone and I wish for your visas to come in quickly.

Myself being new to this site and learning more and more every day I have pondered upon something. All of us have lacked patients from time to time during our endeavor to be with the people we love the most ; ) Something I do not understand is the Mexicans that come across the border illegally into So. Cal. AZ, NM, and Texas they are given free health care, shelter at times, send their children to school and they walk down our streets laughing at the American public that they can live here without charge. We have a sheriff Joe Arpiao “America’s Toughest Sheriff," good.gif is trying to take all of the illegals off of our streets. But the Governor of Arizona and the Mayer of the city of Phoenix takes money away from Sheriff Joe because they want Phoenix to be a safe haven for Illegals to live and play at "our Tax Dollars". But yet I miss my soon to be wife very much! I ask myself why she cannot be here also. We all on this forum do the correct and just thing to protect America and each and every one of us are helping Homeland Security in traveling down our paths responsibly and doing things correctly to bring our loved ones to America for a new life together. I wonder if USICS has ever taken thought of this length of time we are to endure to be separate from our loved ones. So we shall have to wait and wait and wait even more? The USICS has recently hired in 1500 new employees? But yet they are even more back logged? "Laughing" about government employees... they make how much money?
Chief, Transformation Program Office... Homeland Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services, $114,468.00+
SPACE MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST... Homeland Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services, $77,670.00+
COMMUNITY RELATIONS OFFICER... Homeland Security, Citizenship and Immigration Services, $82,961.00+
WOW!!!
Now I know why this will take several months

Ok, I am now done with my ranting and raving headbonk.gif

Having lived in a border state myself for most of my life (I only moved to Idaho from Texas 2 years ago), I understand your frustration with the Mexican illegals. But honestly, I don't think that interferes that much with our SO's process and time length. The Mexican illegals thing is its own ugly problem. unsure.gif I don't want to derail this thread with my rant on this topic... I could go on and on!

Und guten morgen, Corinthians and everyone else! My German is ... well, not good! smile.gif Glad my SO's English is great!

I found a couple more Las Vegas wedding sites that look promising, too. His parents and one grandma at least want to fly in to see us married, and it's so expensive to fly to Moscow, Idaho... so a destination seems the best for us. Ruled out most of the strip hotels because they want too much money.
The Flamingo
Vegas Weddings
Cupid's receptions

I can't narrow anything down too much until I know what our financial situation will be when he arrives. And that depends on what sort of job he lands when he returns home next month (and my finances are pretty horrible 'til I finish my 2nd degree in May). The job market in his hometown hasn't been great (not that it's so hot in the US at the moment either!). I've got him studying for A+ certification while he's here so he has a better shot at job hunting here and back in Germany. He's got a Vordiplom which has no US equivalent (it's like a 3 year degree but all credits in computer science), and the credit didn't transfer well when we looked into him finishing a 4th year for a BA. That certification should help him land a decent job here until we can sort out the rest.

Have the rest of you talked about what your SOs will do for work in the US?

Since all of us are dealing with trying to throw a wedding that involves at least two countries, and all of us are pretty limited in honeymoon options unless we get Advanced Parole- it only seems reasonable that there should be somewhere where we get gather and talk about the fun, frilly stuff instead of just the logistics of filling out papers!

not that I know of but I say we July fliers do it here so we can all see what we all have planned..from simple to whatever and SUPPORT each other on this wonderful journey!!!

If only approval/NOA2 was the end. The next steps aren't too quick either - NVC, embassy, medical, interview... blah. I expect that will take a couple months itself. I'm not booking or planning anything firm until he's got his visa. I'm guessing that won't be till at least February.

I still have him with me here for another month. I cross my fingers we have enough money between us for me to visit him around December/Christmas. I think I'll lose it being apart Sept - Feb!

My fiance and I aren't planning a wedding until he's here with a job. I just think that it's too much stress on us, especially for him, to plan a wedding on top of our immigration stuff, his employment situation, our living situation, getting used to being together all the time etc. I want to focus on getting our marriage settled before I plan a wedding. But a lot of my friends want us to plan a wedding right away. I'm also focused on saving money for the months he'll be unemployed while waiting for EAD. I can't spend money on a wedding and try to save for the EAD waiting process.

In other news smile.gif My fiance and I have begun to make plans to see each other during the Thanksgiving holiday smile.gif That's less just a little over 3 months from now. We're trying to decide if he's going to come to the US or if we'll go to Canada - to avoid any drama with US customs officials. Any thoughts on that? Is anyone planning on visiting the US during the K1 process?

I guess that means you're counting on getting an EAD stamp from an airport? Otherwise you have to get married before he works, because K1 isn't authorized to work without an EAD stamp. He'd have to wait until he gets EAD when you apply to adjust status.

Or am I misunderstanding?

Same here, not setting a date until the visa is in his hand.

With the 90 day window, what sort of wedding ideas are you all thinking? Andreas and I are talking about doing a Vegas wedding since there's so many packages and it's not so expensive. I've planned a wedding before and 90 days isn't much without major stress or an all-inclusive package.

A couple sites I found that look appealing for a Vegas wedding:
Chapel of the Flowers
Treasure Island hotel
A Special Memory Chapel
Imperial Palace hotel
Tropicana Hotel

Still looking, though. My folks want us to do the wedding in Houston, but... eh. My dad's a hotel manager, so they're talking about discounts and stuff for hotel guests and a reception. Not sure that I want to rely on them anymore, but even if I did -- I haven't found ceremony packages there.

Am I the only crazy one that has started looking into all this? luv.gif I get very excited thinking about it all!

I'm glad to see most people have gotten their NOA1s by now. Congrats to you all, and I hope the remaining get yours super fast!

I finally got my answer from my parents tonight about the co-sponsor/affidavit of support, so I thought I'd give an update. After plenty of drama and my father freaking out (he printed like 50 pages of ####### from the USCIS website to read!!!), they agreed to co-sponsor. The catch: I have to write some letter saying that if the affidavit went into effect that any money they paid would become a loan that I had to repay them. That's some superb trust right there, isn't it?

The whole thing has shattered my faith in my family, and if I didn't need them to co-sponsor, I'm so ticked off I wouldn't even invite them to my wedding. Maybe I'll get over it by the time Andreas and I finally do get to set a wedding date, huh? It's a long time away. crying.gif

Anyways, thanks for all your support already. <3 I'm still in this!

Hey guys

here I am again with another question!!

Does anyone know how long it generally takes after filling to finish??

And does it depend on where your Fiance is from, or are all countries the same???

THANK YOU!!

Katie

If you fill in your I-129F Sent date in your timeline, VJ will give you an estimate on when you can expect your NOA2. On average, the entire process is taking 6-8 months, but that can vary substantially depending on several factors, such as RFEs or trouble at the consulate.

Most of the process it won't matter which country the fiancé is from. At some spots, it could take a little longer if that consulate has a backlog for interviews or is a high security risk/high-fraud country.

Btw, if you got your NOA1 on June 30th, you're a June filer. smile.gif But you're welcome to hang out here. The more the merrier!

crs: I would gladly ask a friend to co-sponsor if I knew someone to ask. My only friends that could don't live in the same state, and most I haven't seen in person in years or ever (friends my SO and I game and chat with). I could ask my sister, but my hunch is that she wouldn't be willing. I'll ask, though, if my parents back out. I haven't heard back from them yet, which is unusual and probably not in my favor. That's a bummer, but try not to get ahead of yourself. The whole thing seems overwhelming when you worry about stuff that isn't here yet.

I got my own bad news today. My parents are having second thoughts about co-sponsoring us. Apparently my mother just now told my father about it and he's all concerned he's going to get charged money. I'm on my last year of a second degree, so I don't meet the I-134 income requirements myself... so I'm majorly concerned. And to top if off, he gave me heck about whether I knew my SO well enough and that we don't have enough money to do this ourselves, and that we aren't using a lawyer... ranting33va.gif Bad day!!!

Cross your fingers for me, as I have some major problems coming if they back out of co-sponsoring.

How is everyone holding up and is anyone else checking everyday? I know I am! ITS SO ADDICTING!!!!

Yeah, I check every day, even though I realistically know I've got months to wait until anything happens. But I keep hoping to see some miracle despite this. tongue.gif At least maybe we'll beat the VJ estimate, since Cali's center seems to have been picking up the pace a bit this last month. It's so sad Cali takes 4-6 weeks longer than Vermont!

Yes I check everyday & I got my first touch(whateva that means but hey atleast they are doing something with my package) today. kicking.gif

Guys when can we expect our NOA2? I am thinking the last week of Oct.. And what do you do after you get NOA2?

VJ estimates your NOA2 date for you. Check out your own timeline. smile.gif
After NOA2, they send stuff to the national visa center, then to your country's consulate. If you haven't already, check out the K1 guide and flowchart. It explains everything pretty well.

I hope everyone had a restful weekend, and keep your chins up!

I just realized your signature says you filed I-130, so you're K3. The rest of us here filed K1, which is a little different. You might check out the K3 forum to find more K3 filers, as I'm guessing some significant differences come up along the way.

Good luck to everyone with their process. I found VJ just last month. My fiance and I had been dating across the NY/Canada border for the past two years (Oct 06), the border guards know us so well that some of them had been teasing us about getting married for awhile now. A couple of well meaning but misinformed US guards told us the fiance visa process should only take a month! Then I found this site and panicked. wink.gif We are underway now, I'm moving to CA for a job at the end of this month (which is why we started looking into paperwork, we thought he'd be able to come with me easily!), he's coming with me to visit for about a month, then coming back up here to defend his dissertation (he's a military historian) and take care of the NOU2 process which should hopefully pick up toward the end of October.

Be glad that you've gotten to see your fiancé so frequently. Many here are separated from their SO for years before getting their visa. But I completely understand about getting a shock about how long the process will take. Originally my fiancé was trying to get a student visa here, but when it started looking like he couldn't obtain the funds needed for an I-20, we started checking out K1. I am still saddened that this process takes soooo long! I thought he'd be here permanently by now, but he's only visiting me now. I still am in tears whenever I think of the months we're going to be apart again after he has to leave in September.

This process is difficult on all of us. But that's one thing we have - each other! The support offered on this forum helps keep me sane through this process. Welcome to our July group!

Yeah.. there are a lot of numbers on the back of the check. It was really hard for me to read them. So, I printed the check out with my printer and the number is clearly printed out.

Print out the check to read the number, if you can't see it clearly on the screen.

What do the numbers on the back of the check mean? Where do I register them and what does it tell me???

The numbers that start with WAC are your case number. You can use them to register your case online to check for updates on the USCIS website.

Good luck, and congrats to everyone on their NOA1s and check cashings!

Now even if want to to register it I can't.
He's waiting for NOA1 hard copy... he was waiting but I'm the one who's very very excited and I keep on asking him if he already received our NOA1..

ohhh my...

Tell him to look for the numbers that start with WAC. My check had a ton of numbers on the back, but it's easy to tell once you know to look for that... if it's readable.

Try again! biggrin.gif

That's awesome, I'm glad you get to have a visit! I've thought a couple times about Christmas, but not sure the budget will allow for it. If not, we're looking at 5 months or so apart (I'm estimating, anyway). That just sounds so horrible I don't even want to think of it!

So true... I can be patient atm -- my fiancé is here. Expect my whining and complaining to start at September's end. I'm mostly calm and collected until we're apart... then I'm a basket case. I don't feel whole without him.

Naglfar & & Alice/Brandon: Congratulations on your NOA1!

Naglfar: I received two touches since my NOA1. Since my check hadn't cleared yet, I'm assuming its to enter that I'm paid for in their system. I've seen lots of others on VJ get touched shortly after their NOA1 dates too - probably some filing stuff. Touches often don't mean anything, just someone picked up your casefile for whatever reason, not necessarily to work on it.

Best wishes to everyone still waiting on their NOA1. I'm confident you'll get it soon!

So for people who can see their case online (at USCIS)...did you have to do anything special? Mine doesn't show in the searches. I've searched the forums, is this just a sit and wait thing too?

if you have your case number you can see when it was last touched, but that's pretty much it. they don't say this is gonna happen on this date.

Hey Nessa,

When I log in, it says my case number doesn't exist, but I have the NOA1 here with me....just curious if I am missing something on the USCIS site.

Are you sure you typed it in correctly (WAC########## without the dashes)? If so, you might need to call the service center.

And did you guys see - someone in the June Vermont filers had their NOA2 in 57 days!!! I am so jealous. Check out their timeline!

Checked my case status and it says my case was last updated yesterday 7/27. Does that constitute a touch? The interface confuses me.

From what I've read, the case number is written on the back of the check where the endorsement area is. You can use this to check your case status on the USCIS website.

Sorry for the double post, but I checked my return receipt again today and apparently the mail "arrived at the unit" today... Sunday of all days! Just a sigh of relief that my package is not lost. Now I just have to wait for the check to be cashed.

Phew. 10 days for 1st class mail is pretty sad.

Next time when you send this kind of thing, you can use USPS priority mail with flat rate envelope service.
You can add delivery confirmation without additional charge.
It will deliver things in 2 days, and the cost is not that expensive.
Best of all, you can put whatever paperworks to flat rate envelope since it is flat rate. ^^
I think it cost around $5 or $6 something like that.

Considering certifated mail cost plus return receipt, I think priority flat rate envelope does make sense to me.

Well, I've never had 1st class mail take so long to be delivered (max I've had is 5 days). The mail clerk recommended certified mail and it made sense to me due to the sensitive information enclosed. The only thing I'd do different is make sure it was priority mailed and not just 1st class, and I will when I mail anything to USCIS next time.

Return receipt is also worth it because it provides me proof that it wasn't just delivered but also picked up. If USCIS claims to not have it I can show them that they do with the signature. tongue.gif
