It was hard to sort through the 200+ pages to find anything anyway. Glad to have VJ back up and running...

I agree and I was going to start a new one anyway.

Well since we lost the oldest running thread on here, I thought I would start it over. It is a shame because there was so much useful information on it. :crying:

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresSalary Evidence Needed?

How exciting and draining all of this is!

At this moment I am filling out my I-134 for my fiancee who has an appointmen in London later in February. Somewhat to my dismay I see that, as her sponsor, I need a statement from the officer of my bank declaring certain information about my account. I had thought that bank statements sent to my house, as well as information printing off of online banking sites would be sufficient. Are these in fact insuffficient and is the "statement" only acceptable in the form of a letter rom a bank employee? How long should I expect this to take?

That all depends on your bank. Mine would not give me the letter that I needed. They only gave me a letter stating when I opened the account and that I am in good standing. So I used that along with some recent bank statements.

how long does the fiance can stay in the usa? i know it is 90 days allowed.what happened if the ex-fiance over stayed in the usa? is it allowable if the ex-fiance leave the usa on the 91th day?

What do you mean by allowable? After 90 days you would be considered out of status and would be here illegally. But no one is going to come knocking on your door looking for you.

WOW! It is good to see everyone still checking in. CJ, Sam, Jene, Ty. In a way, I feel like I kind of miss you guys. After all, we used to spend so much time on here.

Anyway, I don't know who can give me the advise I need, BUT, Ton and I are planning on moving to Bangkok. After doing some research, it appears that it is easier for Thai's to move here, than it is for us to move there.

Sam how are you?

Dan

Wow! I am jealous. I wisk we could move back to Thaialnd now. If you are moving to Bangkok to work it can be a hassle. Retiring there doesn't look too bad. I believe that Ton needs to live in the US a minimum number of days per year to keep her green card. A good friend of mine who is a British citizen lives in Bangkok now. he lived in the US for many years and had his green card. His kids were born here and are now out of college. A few years back they took his green card away because he didn't meet residency requirements. He had a 3 year contract with a company in Bangkok. That ran out so now he started his own business. He is married to a Thai citizen but he is still have problems getting a visa for an extended stay.

Gene

Hi Gene,
I still have a lot to consider. I was also concerned about the residency rules. This is what I found out:

You may be found to have abandoned your permanent resident status if you:

Move to another country intending to live there permanently.
Remain outside of the US for more than one year without obtaining a reentry permit or returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.
Remain outside of the US for more than two years after issuance of a reentry permit without obtaining a returning resident visa. However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year.
Fail to file income tax returns while living outside of the US for any period.
Declare yourself a “nonimmigrant” on your tax returns.

I would really like to know what they mean about "However in determining whether your status has been abandoned any length of absence from the US may be considered, even if it is less than one year. "

 Ton received her green card today

Now get to relax for the next 2 years (well 1 yr and 7 months).

I found the AOS to be the easiest part of the whole process. Took less than 2 months from the time I mailed the application until receiving the green card. But considering how long it took from approval of the I-129F until NVC received it, we deserved a fast processing time.

Good Luck to everyone else going through the process.

Bill,

Approximately 4,000 baht. Perhaps a bit less these days - the baht has been pretty strong against the dollar for quite some time now.

Yodrak

Can the visa fee be paid at any post office? What does he need to have with her when she goes to the post office to pay? .....

Bill

The exchange rate has been killing me. I really wish it would get a little higher.

Hi all,

Just wondering for those that gotten their NOA2 way way back in the past, say a year or 2 ago.....has anyone gotten emailsTODAY from USCIS saying the I-129F was approved?

Weird thing happended today, I received multiple emails from "USCIS-CSSO" and the subject of email was Case Status Information for Receipt Number: WAC0123456789 (not the actual WAC #) and the content of the email was the approval of my I-129F back in Aug 2004!!!

Must a some sort of server glitch occuring at USCIS?? :hehe:

WOW! HAHA! You should make a topic for this forum and say FINALLY, NOA2 AFTER 2 YEARS!!! or something lol.

Bill

I just got 5 emails from USCIS stating that my I-129f has been approved. Not bad it is only from Sep. 2005. Would be nice if it was for the AOS.

well, since we're on the subject of money. I'm planning to go visit my fiance again this January if she doesn't have her interview done by then, but when I come back there won't be much money left in the bank. Does it matter how much I have in saving? I do have a stable job and makes pretty good money. All my saving was spent eversince I got back from cambodia earlier this year, so I had to start from scratch. Well there wasn't much to begin with

You don't need to have much in the bank. They just want to see that you have the income to support her when she arrives.

For the K1 you will need the I-134 not the 864. After New Hampshire receives your file, they will then forward it to BKK. At that time you will be able to get your packet 3. I know things have changed a little now, but you used to be able to go to the embassy and pick it up, but I think now you have to have them semd it to you snail mail.

As stated before, around 95% of single women get refused a tourist visa. My wife, when she first applied showed she owns her own home which is proof of ties to Thailand. They didn't believe she owned it because her salary was not alot. Of coarse I guess that person never heard of a mortgage. I think you pretty much have to come from a high society family in order to get a tourist visa.

You have more than enough. Nothing to worry about as long as your Tax records show you made more than the minimum requirements. (Did you declare your tips?) Make sure you get the I134 from notarized.

I am looking into the advantages of living in Thailand after I retire. Do any of you know an American that is retired and living in Thailand that I could contact? I have many questions and have only found some of the answers on the internet. Most of the sites I’ve found deal with Americans living and working in Thailand. I don’t plan to work. I just want to sit back and enjoy not having to shovel snow in winter! My retirement is still down the road but Ying and I are starting to plan now and we are considering buying a house in Thailand within a year or 2.

Gene

Jean, Ton and I are also planning to move to Thailand. I haven't really done that much research yet, but we plan on doing that in a couple of years...

I am glad to see everything is moving along everyone. Here is a question to all of you who have already entered and got married. Does your Thai wife where here wedding ring all the time? Sometimes? or rarely? Ton tells me that most Thai women only where it for a couple of days after the wedding. Is this true?

Hey Mike Congrats on getting the Visa

I was looking into the Sat dish for Thai TV, but Ton has found a web site that you can watch all the channels you want for free. It isn't too bad if you have dsl or cable. Let me know when she gets here to Torrance and I can give you some tips on places to go for food etc...

Ton is still having some adjustment problems.

I will try to find that website address for Thai TV and Radio.

I love to hear all the great news from everyone here.

Another question....
What is the difference between the BKK Embassy packet 3 and 4?
I thought the packet 3 was just the checklist, and packet 4 was all of the required forms (medical, DS, etc....).

According to Wan, my fiancee, she just rcvd everything (about 30 pgs) in a single packet.

Mike I believe packet 3 are all of the forms you need to fill out, and packet 4 is the letter telling you when your interview date and time is.

HELLO ALL!!

what is the best way to send money to my fiancee in thailand?

thank you
Bill

Depending on if you are in a hurry or not, go to ikobo.com. The first time you send money it takes a while due to the fact they have to send her an ATM card. Once she receives that, then it is instant and there rates are the best.

I lost my job back in August which paid me a decent salary, now I barely make enough for both of us, especially having to shop for 2 different grocery list. Living in LA is just rediculous. The cost is so high and the salaries are some of the lowest I have have ever seen.
