Africa: Sub-SaharanSecond Interview

Hi VJ

I went for my interview this morning and have had to go back due to 2008-2009 tax papers issue. Everything went OK though. I had a nice conversation with the CO who happened to have spent 2 years in Indonesia where we got married while missionaries there, and so our conversation was entirely on our time in Indonesia and where my wife and I lived, plus our favorite Indonesian food and stuff. The CO said he would have approved my visa had it not been the tax papers which need to be put on file and stuff. I have a second interview on January 12 just to bring the tax papers.

I called this NO SHAKING! You are approved already in the name of GOD. Congrats in advance!

QUOTE (ronaldo @ Dec 28 2009, 02:46 AM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
I just looked at the date I submitted the package and the date I left the country.
I submitted the package on Sep. 4, 2009 and they filed it on Sep. 15, 2009. I left her country Sep 5, 2007.

I would advice you to go and marry her and file for K3 instead of the K1. Good luck

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsCR1 Visa Approved!
August 01, 2011 (First Interview)

My first interview was on August 01, 2011 at 7:30am. I woke up at 1:00am for my midnight prayers and couldn't go back to sleep cos I was kind of nervous though its not my first time of going to the US Embassy for visa interview. Previously I have been there about 6-times for a visit visa without any success but this was my first for immigrant visa interview. By 6:00am I hit the road to the embassy and there was a long traffic so I got to the embassy around 6:45am. I then join the cube and by 7:15am I got inside. The security guy took my appointment letter and send it to window no. 3. After couple of mins I was called to window no. 3 and upon getting there, there was a friendly Ghanaian lady, we greeted with smile then she asked me if I was ready for the interview cos my case expedited due to my wife sickness and I said YES. Then she ask me bring all evidence I have with me. Frankly speaking with the help of God I have a wonderful documentation. I had over 200pages of yahoo chat since 2007, over 60pages of my wife's emails, over 50pages of my wife's phone records, our hotel reservation & receipt in South Africa, about 150 pictures (both Ghana & South Africa), snail mails from my wife, my medical records, new police report and birth certificate, passport pictures, weeding invitation and calender. After submitting those documents she ask me to go and sit down and I will be call again. In about couple mins I was at window no. 2 to took my fingerprint. In about close to one hour I was called to window no. 5. That was the consular, she was white American who in about early or mid thirty's. We greeted nice and then she started asking the following questions.

1. What is the relationship between you and the petitioner?
2. How old are you and she?
3. Who introduce you to her?
4. When was the first time you met?
5. How did you you meet, after talking to each other ?
6. For how long before meeting?
7. What work does she do?
8. How many times has she come to Ghana?
9. When and when?
10. Your wife has a low income and how did she manage to come here many times?
11. Does she send you money?
12. Has she married before?
13. When did she first got married?
14. When did she got divorce?
15. Does she have children?
16. How many?
17. Do they live with her?
18. Where does she live?
19 Which State?
20. Does she live on her own?

Then the CO did some typing on the computer said she has gone through all the documents and everything is fine but all email and phone records are from her and none from you. I want you bring your phone records, sent emails and cards sent to your wife. I was trying to tell her that I once try to get my phone its kind of hard then she ask me what network do I use and I said MTN, she said yes she sees that most of the calls were from MTN, I then added that I have been using majicjack to call her but not sure if I can its call records then she said you should get it. She then gave me all the documents emails, chats, Tax docs back me and a white sheet requesting me to come for a second interview on Oct 6 at 1pm. They request more evidence of relationship from the beneficiary side only. Also mark Awaiting for Administrative Process.

October 6, 2011 (Second Interview)

I arrived at the embassy around 11:30am and we were called to the embassy 1:00pm. My interview started after 4:00pm. It was the same CO who first interview me. She ask me to bring what I have to show her. This time I brought my MTN phone records and sent emails to my wife together with the previous evidences. She started asking the following questions;

1. Who is Robert Scott? My brother in law
2. Does he live with your wife? No
3. Do they live in the same area? Yes
4. Does your wife has sisters? Yes
5. Does any of them live with her? No, she moved to the sister when her sickness started. Currently she is at the hospital and whenever I called she can hear me but she cannot talk
6. What is she suffering from? I gave her the name of her sickness

Then she start typing on the computer about abt 2mins. After she crossing checking my name on the passport with my birth certificate and police report. Then said I dont remember if I as ask you this before; who is your join sponsor? Ibrahim Salifu. I have the same with my join sponsor. Then she ask who is he and I said he is my friend.

Then I got approved and was given a green sheet to pick a visa.

Are you the petitioner or the bbeneficiary? If you are the beneficiary then you need to send it to your petitioner and after the petitioner had paid the immigrant visa fee it will generate a coversheet that contain the NVC address where to send the DS230. You will also need to send along with DS230, police report, passport photocopy, passport picture, birth & marriage certificates both original. Hope this info will help you.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNOTICE FROM US EMBASSY (ACCRA-GHANA)

Dear Immigrant Visa Applicant/Petitioner:

We know that many of you have expressed concerns about the wait time. Rest assured that we recognize the importance of reuniting families and are working hard to reduce this backlog. We are constantly reviewing our policies and procedures to make sure we are utilizing our resources as efficiently as possible. We understand the concerns you have over the length of time required to process your cases, and we regret the inconvenience this causes you.

Due to a combination of high-demand and the need to confirm that each application meets all the requirements of US visa law, Embassy Accra currently has a backlog of immigrant visa cases awaiting interviews after the case has been verified as documentarily qualified at the National Visa Center (NVC). In many cases, this wait time is over one year.

A word about the process: Immigrant visa petitions are processed in the order that they are received at the National Visa Center (NVC). The NVC retains the approved petition until the case is ready for adjudication by a consular officer abroad. Petitions may remain at NVC for several months or for many years depending on the visa category and country of birth of the visa applicant, and how quickly the petitioner submits all the required documents fees. Another factor is the resources available at the designated overseas embassy or consulate. NVC holds the cases until an interview is available. For more detailed information about the process, please see our Frequently Asked Questions.

Despite the backlog, applicants and petitioners do have a way to ensure that the process goes as smoothly and quickly as possible. Here are some helpful tips:

Read all of the NVC's instructions thoroughly.
Submit all requested documents and fees to NVC as quickly as possible
When you do have an interview scheduled, read our instructions.
Make sure you bring all the required documents to your interview.

Once again, we want to assure you that we take your concerns seriously. We will continue to work toward reducing the backlog. We appreciate your patience.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOctober K3 and I-130 Filers who are still in waiting for NOA2s?

I actually do, not just me though, my husband also :) we also got our DS-3032 accepted in only 3 days when ppl are still waiting :P

I use the power of imagination, I use my intuition, mixed together with lots of prayer and fasting <I fasted every other day for 6 months before I sent off the I-130> and when we recieved the NOA2 it was a really awesome time, my husband was actually at this temple down in Pune< we hadnt been able to talk for 2 weeks due to his phone not having reception,> the day I recieved the NOA2 he had been in meditation the whole day, then the approval came and his phone also started working the same day :P . DO you believe in the Power of NOW? Thoughts are things, Thoughts become things... we are like a magnet, if we wake up with negitive energy then negitive things are drawn to us... wake up with positive energy then positive things are drawn to us... less you ask, how do you wake up in positive energy.. through meditation and my husband does krya yoga... I am not able to do it as yet, so I just concentrate on my breath... :P

I truly agree with you Melody, Prayers is the answer to everything. May God help us hear something soon cos staying apart is very difficult for couples.

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresRFE - Certified Copy of Marriage Certificate

Will the madness ever cease! We provided a certified copy of our marriage certificate (instructions say you can provide either the original or a certified copy) and the NVC says that the certified copy we provided was not from the government agency they recognize. They said that the document should have come from the Registrar General. I explained to them that their information is incomplete. You can obtain an official marriage certification from either the Registrar General or from the AMA - Accra Metropolitan Assembly. Most of the people I know who were married in Accra were married at the AMA. The difference between the official certified copy and the original is the the certified copy comes with a letter of authentication from the AMA as further evidence of the document being official. My husband retained the original copy (he could have used the certified copy or the original) so that he could present it at his interview as instructed on the NVC website. So, I have emailed the NVC with details about this misunderstanding including the link to the AMA's website and I am waiting for our original certificate to be received in the mail from my husband. Hopefully, we have provided them with additional information on the marriage process in Accra, Ghana. Unfortunately, it has set us back probably by a month to getting our case closed. The good news is that was the only problem with our paperwork. Hopefully, this will be resolved before I receive the original from my husband because I hate to have to give them both official copies of our marriage certificate - then my husband will have to get another certified copy - oh well. Just thought I would share for others going through the process in Ghana.

Always something. I guess I can't blame the NVC for not being an expert on everything in every country. Patience has become our friend.

We also submitted an original copy to avoid any delays. All original document will be forward to the US Embassy in Ghana and it will be handed over after the interview. Good luck!

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresIR-1 VISA APPROVED!

Hello VJ friends!

I want to stop by to announce that my visa has been approved this morning! If you recall from my previous post, my first interview was on December 23rd, 2010. While it went very well as posted previously, I didn't have tax transcripts for 2008-2009 and I was asked to return with those documents on January 12, 2011. I went this morning and nothing was asked again. I just submitted the tax transcripts and the consular officer lifted the approval stamp and stamped "APPROVED" on my documents and handed me a blue visa collection slip to pick up visa on January 21. Praise God!

In all, it was not as stressful as I read on several forums and both consular officers were very nice and professional! I can't wait before I meet with my 23 months son and wife and it's going to be wonderful as well as fantastic! I'm going to get ticket this afternoon!

Thank you all once again for your wonderful contributions to this forum! I pray that y'all have smooth interviews and be approved without any stress! God bless us all!

Congratulation! I am so happy for you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWho suppose to fill form I-134 if you are using a co-sponsor

You will want to have copies/originals of the proper forms at the interview.

It is best to have copies and originals of everything submitted (not just the affidavit of support) at the interview. Submit copies (unless directed to submit originals) and have the originals available for the CO to inspect if requested.

Thank you and now also most of our original documents are with the NVC so we will know after they completed their process there. Many thanks for you assistance! God bless you...

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWho suppose to fill form I-134 if you are using a co-sponsor

For the CR1 spouse petition (form I-130 petition) the I-864 is used, not the I-134. The I-134 is used in conjunction with the K3 (I-129F) spouse petition.

Both the USC petitioner and the co-sponsor would file the same type form (I-134 or I-864). Each one completes their own form and includes all needed supporting documents.

Thank you very much for your answer. They have send the I-864 together with all the supporting documents to the NVC and I want to know if they fill another for my interview or not. Anyway they made photocopies of everything it sent to NVC which they will send me, is that ok?

Hi ibee4qb,
Both your wife and your co-sponsor need to fill out separate I-134 forms. And now the onus of providing all financial evidence to support all that he/she fills out also lies on your co-sponsor.But I think that your wife might also need to send supporting evidence.Well to be on the safer side,I made my fiancé send his.But I thinking at the interview, they would like to check our co-sponsor's I-134 and supporting documents more.
Hope this helps ,and you can always look for more co-sponsor specific answers by simply searching for co-sponsor I-134.

Good Luck!

Anwesha

Thank you Anwesha and God bless you!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresUS embassy in Ghana

So the NVC sent my I-129F fiance visa paperwork to the US Embassy in Ghana on June 8th, 2011. I called embassy in Washington yesterday (7/5/11), and they informed me that package 3 was mailed out to my fiance two weeks ago and he should wait another week. If he does not get it in another week then he should contact the Embassy abroad to send him another. I'm like #######, the embassy abroad does not take phone calls! That's what they told me, and their emails are always automated, there is not human response. They also say he will not be let in the Embassy unless he has an appointment. So what the hell are we supposed to do now?!?! Because on top of that I also hear that it will take 6 months for him to get his interview! :crying: I have no clue where to go from here. I have sent him a copy of the paperwork and let him know he may have to go to the embassy and let them know he has an appointment so he can get in and pick up a package. Does anyone have any other ideas of what we can do at this moment because I'm at a loss. PLEASE HELP! how can he get his package 3 & 4, and will it really take 6 months to get an interview from the us embassy in Ghana???

Please can I get the Washington number you called? Thank you
