I'm curious to know how long of a period does there have to be for a couple to be concidered a real relationship?

A direct answer to your question would be meaningless. The Consular officer is trained to consider the totality of the circumstances. I've seen what appear to be long term relationships denied and visas issued to people who married on their first and only visit when 18 months later they haven't seen each other in person again. There's no magic answer.

Thanks for the response. My fiance and I haven't been together for a year yet but will be once we get our package sent to file...

Hi there,

We just received our NOA2 also so not sure how much help I can be... Although, my fiancee did find a lot of the particulars about how she was to receive notification, how the medical process goes, police certificate, etc, by doing some research on her own. Since the process from NVC on is mostly the beneficiaries' responsibility, a lot of the information can easily be found from various Japanese sources, primarily on the US Embassy (Tokyo) website. Other info she has found by looking at Japanese language blogs, newsgroups, etc.

She is visiting me here in the states tomorrow biggrin.gif so I am sure we will go over what we need to do going forward. Like I said, we are in the same stage as you, but I'll post any relevant info on VJ as we go. (Prolly in the June filers thread.)

Best of luck to you!

Regards,
Deryck

I thought she was unable to enter the US during any part of the Visa process...

So Yoko and I have finally received our NOA2 and our journey has finally been sent to the NVC. This is an exciting time for us but we are still filled with so many questions.

1 - Once the NVC sends the info to the correct location in Japan how does the embassy contact us from there?
- Do they contact Yoko or me?
- Do they contact by mail (normal mail or UPS/FedEx) or by telephone?
2 - Who actually sets up the medical exam or is it appointed to Yoko?
3 - What are most of the exact questions Yoko will be asked during the interview?

** ??? ** If Yoko plans to move to a different apartment before her interview do I need to contact NVC or State Dept for changes ** or ** Does she need to contact someone?

All the questions you've asked are consulate-dependent to a greater or lesser extent.
  1. How the consulate sends the "Packet 3" info depends on the consulate. If they utilize e-mail, it'll probably go to you, as there's nowhere on the I-129F to record the beneficiary's e-mail address. If they use regular mail or a courier service, it'll go to the beneficiary's mailing address as reported on page 2 of the I-129F. If the beneficiary has moved, you or she should contact the consulate.
  2. The visa applicant (i.e., your fiancee) is responsible for arranging her medical exam.
  3. Varies by consulate.
I would suggest posting in the Embassy/Consulate forum and putting the specific consulate's name (Tokyo or Naha) in the subject so that others who've been through there before can offer you specific information based on their experiences.

I guess she gave her passport in before the interview. I guess this is given with the I134 and other supporting documents before the interview. I would assume that she would receive her passport back if she failed but I really have no idea... Keep the ideas coming please...

What questions did they ask her?

Where did you meet? MySpace.com
Why did he pick you?
Why you instead of any of the other thousands of Japanese girls on MySpace.com?
Where does he work?
How was he able to fly to Japan 4 times with his type of work finacially?

"Well he has a very unique financial situation".

So Yoko just left the Embassy in Japan literally 10 minutes ago. I'm really really confused though. I asked her if she passed or failed and all she said is the interview went very fast, only 4 questions, and the person that did the interview said we had a unique situation/relationship. He then told Yoko she would receive the packet and passport in about a week.... Then the interview was done and she left the US Embassy.

Soooo.....

What the hell does that mean???
