CanadaStill waiting on marriage cert
We got married in Newfoundland and apparently they have people scatered around the communities that get paid $20 a license to process them... I think she just does it on the side. They dont seem to need the money as they have a gigantic house that is beautiful inside and out!
I have called the office in Corner Brook numerous times and then started calling her only to never get an answer and when I fianlly did get her found out she was on vacation and forgot to mail it first...
I guess once the place in St John's gets it then they send it to the office in Corner Brook and they send it to me. If I would have known I would have requested it straight from St John's but Corner Brook already took the money out of our acct...so here I sit and wait...

CanadaStill waiting on marriage cert
Anxiously waiting on our marriage cert so I can get the ball rolling on this already.
We got married in March here in Canada... I found out at the beginning of the month the lady that issued our marriage license went on vacation for a month and a half and never mailed our paperwork!!
Argh!!

CanadaWhat will it be next??!!
Honestly I am not sure, LOL. I was told I need to DCF in Toronto, with the I-130... and when I tried to make my "timeline" I thought it said if I was DCF it would be the CR-1... or am I totally off? I originally thought it was the K3...
Thanks

CanadaWhat will it be next??!!
Well I called yet again on the marriage cert. A few weeks ago they said it was in and they would send it out... so I find out today they have my husbands name mixed up. He has 2 middle names and they just ommited his first name and went with the 2 middle ones... argh... I was hoping to mail our I-130 out on Monday.
Not going to happen now!
Glad we are going on vacation in 2 weeks..Look out Atlanta and California!! lol

CanadaThe other side of the fence...
I am the USC living here in Canada and I long for all the food in the states... I was craving taco bell the other day... we have one in Sudbury but its just over an hour away in a mall so they are not open 24-7. I LUV Outback Steak house...Olive Garden... yummy.
We have Red Lobster here, but I wasnt too impressed, maybe I was just there on a bad day.
My husband has only been to the states once. (California) and he can't wait to go back and have "roach coach" lol those big burritos from the taco truck that cost a couple bucks. Jeeze now I am hungry!!

CanadaCopies of multiple Evidence of Residence in Ontario
We will DCF in Toronto, so they want proof of our legal status here in Ontario for atleast 6 months prior to the application being sent in.

CanadaCopies of multiple Evidence of Residence in Ontario
How many items did you use?
I have:

US military orders bringing me here.
My form I got from the border when I first got here, (some immigration form saying I can stay here from April 2005 to May 2009)
Ontario Drivers license

For my hubby I think we have:

copy of his military orders bringing him to Ontario (he is from Newfoundland)
Ontario drivers license

I can maybe get a letter from RBC saying I have had an account with them since I got here, just seems like a pain in the bum..
along with a letter from the mortgage company saying I bought a house when I got here, but his name is not on there since I didnt know him then.
As far as his "evidence" he doesnt have a whole lot and everything is in my name.

Ideas?? Suggestions??
Thanks

The consulate in Toronto has you send in copies of everything and then they make an appointment for applicant in person to present documents...

There is no "walk in" service

Wow, cool good.gif . Those a-holes made me drive from Edmonton to Calgary to present our I-130 in person.

I think they have us send everything in so that when we have the "appointment" they know we actually have everything..cause you know how busy they are... whistling.gif LOL
I actually had to send a signed statement saying I have the original documents that I sent copies of and I will present the originalsw when requested...

atleast you got to talk and see someone when you submitted it, I just hope I got it all and will wait for an email from them. They requested both of our email addresses along with all the other things they wanted...

CanadaAlmost Ready to Mail quick question(s)
On the G-325A
I have them filled out for me and hubby, I am the USC...do I sign both or does he sign his and I sign mine...?

What is the fee for the I-130? do I send a US funded check from my bank or is a money order better?

On the I-130 it asks about relatives of the beneficiary... we listed our son we have together, and me as his wife, do I also list my oldest son from a previous relationship and put "step son"? My husband is the only father he knows and his father is not on his birth certificate, or do I just leave him out all together?

Thanks guys, I am so ready to mail this packet off and get the ball going. I am worried we wont complete this in time for us to move together when we leave Canada....

And the passport size photos for the G-325A are they US standard 2X2 or is it 4x4???

We had a kitten that looked like that. His name was Sylvester, and then my oldest nick-named him Buster!
He is very cute!

CanadaKeeping him busy
All of those ideas are great.
I was thinking if he likes golf but has nobody to golf with he can go to the driving range and do that a couple of times and maybe meet someone to golf with, or also some courses will just pair people up that are golfing solo. Just an idea since he likes to golf.
As far as the shooting thing, I know some larger ranges will let you rent weapons to shoot and you just pay for the ammunition and range time along with a rental fee for the gun itself.

I believe you have to be able to show strong solid ties to Canada for them to allow you so they know you will come back.

CanadaGot a phone call from Toronto Embassy today!
I got another call from the embassy. We now have our appointment on the 7th of November for them to see the originals of all our documents. They received our I130 package on the 7th of August, so it will be a 3 month wait time for the I130...then yes we will have to wait for them to send our package to Montreal and then continue the process.
I too would like to hear more DCF through Toronto stories.
Good luck Tekkon.

CanadaGot a phone call from Toronto Embassy today!
No its not for the real interview when you DCF in Toronto, you mail in the petition with copies of all the supporting documents, then they schedule an interview to see your orginal documents and then they forward the case to Montreal for the real interview...

CanadaGot a phone call from Toronto Embassy today!
So they received my I 130 petition that I sent in just over a month ago. The lady said that everything looks fine, but I somehow left off page 4 of my hubby's g325A...so I will need to bring that when we get our interview in Toronto. As of now they are looking at booking interviews in November... so she said I should expect an interview Nov 7th to bring all original documents that I submitted with the petition... she said she will email me with the exact appt. info in the next few weeks.

Also to add... I just got an email from my boss at work and he said the Toronto consulate is looking into visiting our work and wants to know if there are any "services" we need...so I emailed that I have that petition and if they can review our documents when they come up to save us a trip going there... we'll see what happens with that one.

The consular (is that the correct term?? lol) from Toronto visited us a couple months ago and had lunch with a few of us... so this could be a good thing.

CanadaWhite Stuff is Falling
Oh ya, its getting cold! We are hovering around the upper 30's low 40's here in Northern Ontario. We were suppose to get snow today, or maybe tomorrow. All I know is I had to light the pilot light on our gas stove last night. We may be moving to Florida in March-April, it will be nice to be somewhere warm for a while!

CanadaHow long until I receive packet IV from Montreal??
Thanks for the reply.
It just came in the mail today, so we are working on the checklist.
If I understand correctly on the checklist for step one we are suppose to immediately return the attached Form DS-230 completed, and then for step two we complete the checklist then we mail that to them and they will give us an interview date when its our turn??

CanadaHow long until I receive packet IV from Montreal??
We went to the Toronto embassy to have our I 130 formally submitted and it was approved. They said it would be mailed to Montreal on Wed (12 Nov)
When should I expect to receive anything from Montreal? Anyone know?? I am so anxious for this to be done as we are scheduled to move to Utah in April...

Thanks

I kind of did it the opposite way. I just sent back my checklist without my medical yet. I know I can get a medical done within week or so and I figure I'll get an interview in March so I have time. I'm going for a tetanus shot next week and then I plan to book my medical with my case number. The list item just says "arrange for a medical" so I'm pretty much doing that by getting the last of my vaccines and then booking something.

I'm SO glad the DS160 is over with though. I timed out THREE times before I could actually complete the online form!!

So glad I read this post, I missed the part about the DS160, now I guess we have to get a photo done so we can complete this portion of the packet 3.

CanadaReceived Packet...questions
Got the packet from Montreal...
Filled out the DS160 online and completed DS230 part 1

How do I get rid of the autodate function on the I134...... when I fill in a date for question 10 and put that I filed a petition for my husband all of the dates change.

Also one of my children is his, and is a USC, do I leave them out of children joining him later section?? I have the baby listed under question#8 along with my other son.

One more, when I looked at the downloads to see if I could get a new I134 from here I noticed the I134 was under the finance section...and the spouse section had another form...his checklist says the I134 am I missing something?? We are married...

Thanks so much

Thanks everyone! You seem like a great bunch.

So do I have to take a pic of myself with my leafs jersey on to wave the fee?? tongue.gif

I am from Sudbury Ontario (If you don't know where that is, find Toronto on a map and draw a line north). My Fiance is from Lancaster PA.

And yes, the most annoying question is "When's the date!!?!?!" and I think my mom asks me that everyday, last night I finally explained to her that I'm not setting one till I'm approved.

We're just gathering all the info we need to send in for the first step right now. Hopefully I can go get all the pics and requirements done before I leave to go home on Sunday :'(.

I can't move down here until January 2010, that's when my employment contract is up at my current company. So it seems like I have a bit of time to get everything done and approved. Yeah, I can break my contract but I have a great job and boss and she even said we might be able to work something out where I can work part time from down here once I'm all married n stuff.

Thanks again for the warm welcome. I'm sure you'll hear from me quite a bit over the next year smile.gif

CanadaADD - ADHD - hyperactive - have you encountered this with your children
I said yes to both. My son is 7 in grade 2, an American in Canadian schooling. The teacher didn't "recommend" drugs, but said that she has seen kids either react really good or not at all.
When I took my son to our family physican he didn't feel my son has ADD/ADHD, that he was just bored in class, and I am trying to just ride my time out until we move in April. The doctor didn't even want to get him evaluated and we have just kind of left it at that.

This is the first teacher that has brought this up, and it was after school had been in session after summer vacation for just a month and we were out of town for 1 week of that time... I know he can be difficult at times, when he is lazy and just decides he doesnt want to do his work/homework.
The doctor said also that unless one of the biological parents has a history that it is highly unlikely for a child to have it.

We have also gotten notes asking if my son is on cold medicine because he seems in a daze and not paying attention and she can't get him to focus.
This has been very frustrating esp when he got his report card and had nothing but C's and D's from his reg teacher and A's and B's from his other teacher outside the "home-room" class.

Also this past Monday we got a call from his teacher and now she wants him tested for a sleeping disorder because he fell asleep according to her at his desk, he said never went to sleep. Once again I think he was bored, and probably a little tired after being off for 2 weeks on holidays and then having to get up early that morning...

CanadaQuestion... Couldn't find it in the guides...
Just wondering after the interview when we finally move to the states is there a time frame that you must wait in the states before visiting Canada?
We are hoping for an interview in April and move at the end, if not May is good too.
I have to go out of town for work in July for 3 months and the hubby wants to go back to Canada to visit family before school starts with the kids while I am gone....Will he be able to do that??
Seems like I remember hearing you have to stay in the US for something like 6 months or so after you enter??
We will have been married just under a year and a half if that makes any difference...
TIA
