IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresI didn't turn my documents in advance to the NVC..now
I filed an I-130 for my wife in January in New Delhi, India. Our case seemed to be moving along just fine, and we received Packet 4 in the end of April. Problem was, the interview was scheduled for May 5th, not giving us enough time to get her medical examination done in time to turn in a week in advance at the NVC (WHICH IS STRONGLY SUGGESTED BY THE CONSULATE WEBSITE). We considered turning in the papers that we had complete (Affidavit of Support, etc.), but were advised by somebody not to split up our paperwork, so we decided to just turn in everything at the time of her interview.

The interview went just fine, the officer even told my wife that he was satisfied with the interview, but they did not take her passport. Instead, they handed her a white sheet that said something to the effect of "Please bear with us while your application undergoes mandatory administrative processing."
In retrospect, not turning our paperwork in to the NVC 7-14 day sin advance was a HORRIBLE decision, and I believe that when we failed to do that, our case automatically got put on administrative processing? Because the I-864 has not yet been reviewed, the consulate officer will not issue a visa. And now, instead of reviewing our papers in the few days they normally do before the interview, our case has been put on the slow track (administrative processing).

Does anyone know if this is true?

thanks
