Africa: Sub-SaharanSTRESS-FREE INTERVIEW

Hi Family,
My fiancee just got approved today and it went smooth. She said the whole interview lasted only about 5 minutes. The guy that interviewed her did not even look at the E-mails, employment letters. He only flipped through the Bank statement, the pictures (about 32 Pictures) and the W-2 forms. He asked her about where we met, what i do for a living and how we met. She said he was very cordial, polite and friendly. He congratulated her and told her to come back and pick up her visa next week. She said there was another k-3 lady that got approved today. I think Lagos is changing their attitude. Thank you Everybody and Best of luck to us all.

congrats and good luck.please what questions was she asked?i will be having my interview soon in lagos too.charles and renee

Africa: Sub-SaharanQUESTION REGARDING PICKING UP PACKET 3&4

Does Lagos need to confirm by phone or email that they have the packet? Or is having the USCIS letter and the NVC letter enough to send your fiance to Lagos to retrieve the packets? I sent Lagos an email last Wednesday including my NVC case# and I don't have a reply yet. I have the USCIS letter and expect the NVC letter on Monday. If I scan and send to my fiance, does he have enough to get the packet? Will they turn him away?

just tell him to go to the embassy here in lagos before 11.00am between monday and thursday with both letters.goodluck to you both.charles and renee

I just got off the phone with Segun and he was approved for his visa. He will receive the visa once he gets his medical results in to them. Apparently the labs are very backed up with visa medicals and his results wont be ready until next week.
He had a very long day at the consulate and didn't give me a lot of information. He arrived at 7:00am and didn't leave until after 3pm. I will update this thread with his interview details later.

Africa: Sub-SaharanHas your SO taken more than 1 trip to Lagos?

I guess I didn't realize this could happen in reading posts in the past, but my fiance David has been to Lagos twice and has yet two more trips to make.

1. He initially went to Lagos to retrieve Packets 3 & 4 in November. He was able to complete one part of his medical exam and was given another date to return for the remainder.

2. He went to Lagos again this week. He had some immunizations that require him to go back in January. He did get his police report on this visit.

3. He's going in Jan to finish the immunizations.

4. He will be going 7 Feb for the actual interview.

Wow 4 trips!!! Is everyone experiencing this?

hello,i think the reason for this is because he lives outside of lagos and has to make trips to lagos unlike me so if he comes and he didn't bring something he needed along with him,it is a problem.i went to the embassy once in november and picked up packets 3 and 4 that same day and i went for my police report on the 21st and completed it on that day and my medical was done without stress and i have to go back on the 9th for the final pickup of the medical results.bye

Africa: Sub-SaharanLagos Interview
[quote name='Heather & Justice' date='Dec 29 2006, 12:10 PM' post='638754']
Well everyone I am back from Lagos and here to tell you that we had a tough time.

We went to the consulate on 12/13/06 for the usual 7 am rush. My fiancee went in and I did not see him again until, 3:30 pm. When He came out he told me that He answered all of the questions no prolem but that the interviewer was not convinced. They wanted evidence that we indeed had been together since 2004. We were asked to return with eveidence on any Friday except for a designated few that the consulate would be closed. We retuned that very Friday on 12/15/06. They still would not let me in with him. So I waited. This time the same interviewer saw him and informed him that he would see him last. Another LONG day. He did indeed see him last, Justice produced the evidence that was requested answered more questions, then the interviewer told him that, He wanted to interview me but there was not enough time that day, we would have to come back again. This time 12/19/06 at 10am. We were there for the appointment but we still had to wait. This time a Nigerian man came out and called us, he took me up first, I could not help but notice that his ofice was in the Fraud Investigation Unit. I then asked him if there was a problem, no problem he said we just want to make sure this is not a Green Card Wedding. He detained me and questioned me for an hour. But He was convinced, I could tell, he said that he would take me back down to wait while he interviewed Justice. He kept Justice for 45 minutes, they both came down with smiles and I was told not to worry anymore, he would get his Visa, but not in time to come home with me. I am home, Justice is in Nigeria, we are waiting for the consulate to contact him. We were told when it is time for the Visa to be issued they would contact him. We are waiting.

I just want to say that we gave them NO REASON for them to think that we are not a REAL couple, I have been to Nigeria 3 times now, we had pictures, we had emails, we had plenty of evidence, we were very organized. For anyone who has questions or would like more details I will share further with you if you PM me.

I am really sad and sorry to hear what you had to go through at the lagos embassy and i agree that if you had not been present for the interview,it might have been a really different and negative outcome.I hope your fiance is contacted and issued his visa soon and all goes well.I want you to know that it is better late than never and although you couldn't go back home with him,at least you guys weren't denied which would have been terrible.I will be having my interview soon and my fiancee will be coming over and i hope we have it easier than you guys did.I agree with what you said about Nigerians being portrayed in a bad light and this makes some of the interviewers biased towards us which is wrong but what can one do?Take care, keep praying and have faith in God.Our prayers and thoughts are with you

Africa: Sub-SaharanApproved and livin' it up at home
Finally we were approved on 02/07/07 and we are living together in the U.S!!!! We want to thank everyone on this website especially the sub-saharan section because you have all been so wonderful with your answers and to all those yet to get their approvals, you all will by God's grace. We had no problems at all at our interview and most of the evidence was not even looked at except for the photos and some emails. The interviewer was nice and friendly and I must have spent all of 5 mins with him although I waited for hours before I was called for my interview. Thank you everyone once again.

Africa: Sub-SaharanTransit Visa

Hello Everyone. Hope everyone's journey has been coming along okay. I would like to know what is the correct information on the transit visa situation. I want my fiance to fly KLM from Lagos with a stopover in Amsterdam. Now with the K-1 Visa do we need a Transit Visa or not? I read somewhere where someone needed a transit visa. Can someone tell me if we need this or not? Thank you in advance for your replies.

I cam to the US on a K1 visa through KLM and I was told at the KLM office in Lagos that I didn't need a transit visa and it was true. I wasn't asked for it in Amsterdam and everything went smoothly. I hope this reply helps. Bye

Africa: Sub-SaharanNigerians processing thru another county & K1 w/sponsers

Hello,
My hubby was a student in Europe for a year (on a student visa) and was able to have his interview there for his fiancee visa. As long as your SO has a visa there and claims residency in India...it should not be any problem. We had no problems and we were blessed....quicker interview time and it was approved w/ no problems. I wish you the best :)
Crystal

As long as your fiance is in India legally, you guys can apply for the K1 visa there and can also make use of a co-sponsor.

Hi,I would advise him to get another one because the police reports are only valid for 3 months. I am sure of this as long as he is having his interview in Lagos which was where I had mine. Goodluck

Africa: Sub-SaharanAfrican male culture...

Hello everyone.

Me and my SO having been living together for almost 6 months now. He's from Ethiopia and I'm American. Our relationships isn't what I expected at all. He's a loving and gentle guy. I'm fairly laid back person but we are constantly arguing over things that later turn out to be misunderstandings or cultural differences. I am really having a hard time. We try to discuss things but I end up feeling REALLY frustrated. I'm just curious. Are there some cultural issues that I am missing?

Money. He likes having nice things. When he wasn't working I took care of both of us and he just didn't understand why the finances caused me stress. Now that he's been working, he's all about saving his money and thinking about the future. And he doesn't want me to know exactly how much money he has. he says that in his culture women don't ask men how much money they have. We are figuring out a compromise and a financial plan. But I was shocked that he just has a hard time understanding living expenses and bills. He seems reluctant to spend a lot of money on bills. He says that when he was home he always had money to spend and that he expected to have alot of money once he started working. My response was, "welcome to America. we're all broke" I say this slightly jokingly. We live in DC, which is one of the most expensive cities to live in.

Listening. He doesn't like to listen to me sometimes. When he first got here in June we were going to a get together. He wanted to wear his leather jacket. I was like, its too hot for leather. He just wouldn't listen to me. Finally I was insistent that he could not wear it he gave in. Its very hot in July even at night. I just couldn't understand why he didn't believe me. That's the perfect example of what I don't get. I love him and want to help him understand how things work here but i swear to God, he's quick to disagree with me. I can't force him to listen but sometimes its a drain.

Communication. This is getting a little bit better. But my husband just doesn't like explaining things. And no matter how many times we agree to communicate, it just doesn't work out that way.

Anyway, I want to make our relationship work. I'd welcome some insights.
Sonya

i went through your topic and i believe it is a very valid point,my fiancee and i are from different cultures and backgrounds(she is a white-american and i am a black guy from nigeria)but we communicate a lot and try to understand each other's cultures very well so as to be able to work things through when we get married and we are living with one another.we have had our difficult times with arguments but we always work things out and talk to each other a lot.i think the basic thing here is trying to understand each other's culture and ways and trying to reach a compromise on your differences.she teaches me about american ways and i do the same thing with her too.we have been together for some weeks before and i treated her like a queen and we have had money issues before but we worked it out.it needs love, trust, understand and compromising with one another.take care you all and any inter-racial couples from ketchikan, alaska?

I would like to ask if there's a race issue going on at USCIS.Are applications from european countries being treated faster than than from african countries or what?I noticed something that's why i asked and i hope i don't get anyone offended.I have nothing against any race or country,i am black and my fiancee is white and i guess that speaks for itself. Also i say that USCIS are now processing applications submitted on Feb 23.How come? Thanks and good luck to us all

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresAnyone suggest me plz..

They probably sent it to the old address. Dose you fiance know the person at old address?

A general rule is to use an address like a parent or siblings home, or PO BOX, if a move is anticipated during the process.

I read all the time of people that move while waiting and losing things, the USCIS rarely gets address changes right.

please how can i have my wife's country's flag and mine on our page like you guys have?i have seen lots of couples with their respective country's flags and i think it is cute and nice.thanks a lot

Ananda emailed me this morning and told me that her interview was a success, she was approved.

She did not get into great detail (poor thing was dead tired) but I will try to post something about her interview experience after I speak with her tonight. From what I can tell, it seems to have gone very smoothly, and quite fast. I think she was only there for 2 hours or so.

There were a few other people from VJ going for they're interviews today, I can't wait to here from them today as well!

Thanks again to everyone that has helped us through this journey. It is greatly appreciated, and I'm sure saved us a lot of heartache.

She will be home on Saturday morning (L)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresWHAT DOES THE NVC LETTER LOOK LIKE?
Yes it sounds like it is it. There should be a new case # on the letter underneath the bar code - this is now your case number for the remaining portion of your journey. Make sure your fiance has a copy of this letter when going to the embassy. Good luck!

I got a letter in the mail today ... :reading:
But, it seems far too brief to be the long-awaited NVC letter. It reads something to the effect of "...we have your Case as of 11-8-06, within a week it will be fowarded..." and there's a bar code and the address to Lagos. Is this it????
