Russia, Ukraine and BelarusRussian Police Certificate
I found someone (my komendant obshezhitiye) to do it for me in NN. But how do i do the power of attorney thing? I can't seem to find an example of it online. Also if i manage to draft the power of attorney document in russian...would i need to get it stamped by the consulate or will the letter with my details and signature be enough?? Also...some say go to the local police and some say go to the GUVD of the city. Which would be the easier and faster way? I'm definitely prepared to pay. Would a copy of my passport and russian visa be enough? I don't have the registration card. They take it once you leave the country. All these little details are what's slowing me down.

Wish there was a guideline on how to do this and exactly what is needed. Sigh.

Another question: The US embassy would want a translation too right?

Russia, Ukraine and BelarusRussian Police Certificate

As I said, the right person and the necessary amount. That woman was not the right person. I should have asked you if this was in Rostov because we know the right person and probably could have hooked you up.

Good luck anyway. You will probably have what you need very soon.

Hi, I know I'm asking this one year later but I hope you're still on the site. I'm from Malaysia but I studied in Russia for 6 years (2002-2008) and so i will need the police certificate from Nizhny Novgorod. I know it's extremely difficult to get any official document from Russia if you don't know the right people. Previously everything was done through my medical academy. Now i'm totally confused about how to get this.
The Russian consulate in Malaysia is going to take months. Is it possible to get it within 3-4weeks? I'm willing to do whatever it takes. My interview might be in a month from now.
Please help if you can or at least let me know where to look for help?

National Visa Center (Dept of State)HOW TO TRACK YOUR CASE FROM NVC TO EMBASSY
Hey guys,

I'm not sure how to do this. I received an email from NVC saying that they have processed our case and gave us the new case number and said that it has been forwarded to the respective consulate but they did not give the exact date that it was sent out. So i just used the date that i received the email...which is June 3rd, but there were no shipments on that date. What should I do? Play around with the dates? I really wanna know where that package is right now. Lol. Curiosity.

It might seem crazy to some, the way we want to know where our case is at every second but it does give most of us something to do and a little hope when we see it has moved.

Thanks to those who started this!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Case Filing and Progress ReportsHappy Valentine's Day without our Valentine !!
Love this post!! Needed the positive energy. I'm the half that's outside the US and i'm missing my fiance terribly, especially today since it's Valentine's Day. Nevertheless, we made the most of it...sent each other gifts and spent lots of time doing Skype video. Would have been a billion times better if we were together though. If we were...then our valentine evening would be spent dancing together after a wonderful dinner and cuddling together to watch a movie late at night. No worries...lots of valentines to come.

Happy Valentines Day to everyone here! Keep your spirits soaring!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresConfused about Item 11 (Form I 134)
My fiance was filling out the I-134 a few days ago and we were confused about item 11 which requires him to make a statement on whether he intends to support me, the benficiary in a specific manner, which they define as offering room and board for a certain amount of time, or a specific amount of money given as a lump sum or monthly etc.

Naturally he would be supporting me as his fiancee and i would be living with him once my visa is approved, but there wouldn't be specific terms. It's would be informal.

If he says he does not intend to make specific contributions to the support of the beneficiary, would that make it seem like he's not going to be responsible for me and result in denial of the petition?

If he says he intends to make contributions...how do we specify what sort of contributions it's going to be?

Would really appreciate it if someone could shed some light on this issue. Maybe we're not understanding it correctly.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresTraveling while waiting

I'm flying out to JFK this Friday to visit my fiance for 11 days. If asked purpose of visit I'm still not sure whether to say"vacation" or "to visit my fiance"...is it really OK to say vacation? I don't want them to think I was lying if they ask further and find out I am staying with my fiance...I am so nervous once again, it'll be my first visit since we filed in January.

I flew in through JFK more than a month ago to visit my fiance in NJ. I did indeed encounter a grumpy immigration officer but he asked the standard questions and did not request to see proof of anything. He let me in and granted me a 6 month stay. I'm still here, having a wonderful time with my fiance and his family. Here's what he asked: Purpose of visit? Vacation. Who are you visiting and staying with? My fiance. What is your fiance's status here? USC. What does he do? What do you do for a living? Have you been in the US before? When, for how long and why?
That's it..he then took my fingerprints and photo and let me through. In my honest opinion...grumpy officers might be an advantage coz they're not interested in more trouble. The guy i met was clearly having a bad day and it seemed like he didn't want to question me any longer than he had to. He had one of the fastest moving lines too.
Good luck. I don't think you'll have any trouble. Just be brief and only answer what you're asked. Be honest. Just in case...have your NOA1 and return ticket and employment letter or other home ties proof with you. But it's rare that you'd need them. Doesn't hurt to be careful though.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 in hand, got questions about NVC, Consulate and expected wait times
Thanks! I am calling everyday. Both times i spoke to a live person. I'll try the machine next time. I have already collected the necessary documents. So i guess the best thing to do is to wait for the consulate to mail packet 3 and then try to mail it back to them ASAP. I definitely would feel better about bringing the originals along with me instead of mailing it. I did see the page for the Malaysian consulate and it was confusing. Also i was wondering if i can just go ahead and do the medical while waiting for them to give me and interview date, since i know the address of the panel doctor?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 in hand, got questions about NVC, Consulate and expected wait times
Thank you so much. Because the official timeline says 14days until we can contact the NVC, and that seems a tad bit too long because i remember reading about people who start calling the NVC after 3 days. Yes, i'm going to file the EAD with AOS, but was hoping the stamp will make it easier to get the social security card.

I did find some info about the Malaysian consulate...and the wait time till interview is 50 days!! Gosh.. Oh well.. I'm just glad something is moving at last..

I do have another question though. Do i really need to send all the originals for packet 3? It sounds really risky to me.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 in hand, got questions about NVC, Consulate and expected wait times
Hey there fellow VJ'ers,

My fiance and I finally got our NOA2 after 4 months of waiting. Yay! We received the email notification on 23rd May. I have read through most of the guides and flow chart etc but i just wanted to get some real time feedback on a few things:

1. How soon can we start calling the NVC and expect to get a case number?
2. How soon after getting the case number should we start calling the consulate in Malaysia about the interview?
3. Once we hear from the consulate, what's the average wait time till the interview?
4. Should i request for an EAD stamp at the POE when i come in with the K1?

I would really like to hear what most of you have experienced and any advice you might have.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresNOA2 approved.. fiance due to visit in 2 weeks
I visited my fiance in New Jersey last month. At the POE they only asked basic questions. I told them i was just visiting my fiance. He asked about previous visits to the states and a few questions about my fiance (job, immig status) and that's it. He did not ask about the K1 process, my return ticket,or proof of ties to my country etc. But just to be safe your fiance should bring a letter from his employer stating that he's employed full time and is going on vacation on those dates and is expected back at work on a certain date. Also he should have his return flight itinerary. Just remember to be honest and keep it simple. Short direct answers should suffice.

Good luck and congratulations on the approval!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice certificate from Russia (URGENT!)
Thanks for the info. So I could either get someone in Russia to apply for me or I could apply through the Russian consulate in Malaysia? Which way would be faster??

PS: Is there any website with instructions on how to apply, what documents they need?

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresPolice certificate from Russia (URGENT!)
Hey there,

I hope someone who has gotten their police certificate from Russia can help me. I got my police certificate from Malaysia which is my country of origin and my current residence, but i did spend almost 7 years studying in Russia. Is a police certificate from Russia absolutely necessary? If yes, How do i get one?

I'm panicking because i overlooked this and my interview might be in a month from now.

Any information will be a huge help...especially from Russian VJ-ers.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresK-1 online couple/evidence of ongoing relationship
This site is really awesome! Love the support and all the information available.
Me and my fiance met online too...and we've known each other for 5 months now and decided to start the K1 process.
He came to visit me once, last December for 10 days and that's when he proposed and we got engaged. I guess we don't have too much to show either. We sent in copies of the flight ticket, boarding pass, engagement ring pics and receipt and receipts of a tour we took together and about 20 something thumbnail pics of us together in Malaysia with my friends. He didn't get a chance to meet my parents yet though and i don't know if that is a big deal? I know they place a lot of importance on family involvement.Well anyway, we're waiting anxiously for the NOA2. My heart goes out to the rest of you who are waiting for your other half to come join you. This is really hard! So we all deserve a pat on the back for persevering! It's all worth it in the end.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan i visit my USC fiance while waiting for the K1?
Just wanted to give some feedback. I did go through with my plan to visit my fiance in New Jersey. It was a piece of cake. I was very nervous after all the advice and warnings. I brought supporting documents. At the POE the officer seemed to be in a bad mood even. He asked me what was my reason for entering the US? I answered just for a visit. He asked, visiting whom? I said my fiance. He asked what is my fiance's status here. I told him he was a USC. He then asked about my previous visits. How long? For what reason? etc.Took my picture and fingerprints. That's it. He then gave me 6 months and sent me on my way. He didn't ask to see any papers, return ticket, employment proof etc. He didn't even ask about the K-1 visa. I spent 2 wonderful months with my fiance and his family. I hope the NOA2 approval comes soon! Thanks for all your support guys!

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan i visit my USC fiance while waiting for the K1?
I'm not really sure but i think he can apply for a US visa at the consulate in Malaysia. But based on most people's experiences, getting a tourist visa is almost impossible if you are waiting for the K1. There's no harm trying I guess. Maybe he should contact the US embassy in KL. I've heard that they're really helpful. If he clarified beforehand, then it would save him time and money. If he's a student, then he should try to get a letter from the college showing that he's studying there and when he needs to be back for the new semester etc. That might convince them that he's only going to visit.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan i visit my USC fiance while waiting for the K1?

I came to visit my then fiance last March for 3 months while our 129f was being processed and came through LA and never had a problem. I do not work also and they never asked just wished me a good trip but bring you 797 with you and you proof of address back home and you should be fine.

I think i'm just going to go through with it and take a chance. What's a 797? The proof of address won't be a problem for me. I also plan to visit for about 3 months. I'll be flying in through JFK, and i heard that the officers there aren't too bad.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan i visit my USC fiance while waiting for the K1?
Yes, i am planning to bring a copy of the NOA1 and i guess i'll show them a bank statement also. But I'm not working at the moment so i need to find other reasons to give them for why i will be returning home. Would it help if i showed that i'm qualified as a professional and thus would not try to overstay my visa for just any job. I do have my ID card etc from my recent job. I have no intention of violating the terms of the K1 visa. I just want to visit him for a couple of months, and also visit my family there.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan i visit my USC fiance while waiting for the K1?
The thing is my fiance called up USCIS and asked them if it was okay for me to come over for a visit and they said it would be fine. They did not warn him about any potential problems or anything. There are so many conflicting views. I'm planning to visit so that I can meet his family and get to know them before moving over permanently with the K1. Also..he has only visited me once since we met online in September last year. I thought it might make our case stronger with another visit, especially meeting his family etc. He will also be meeting my parents who are going to be in the US next month.

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresCan i visit my USC fiance while waiting for the K1?
Hey all,

I'm planning to visit my fiance, Herb in New Jersey at the end of March. We sent in our K1 application at the end of Jan. I already have a valid tourist visa. I've read on here that those applying for a tourist visa while waiting for a K1 will not get it. But what about this situation? Would it get me into trouble to visit him with my pre-existing tourist visa? Would i get turned back at the POE? I also remember reading about fiancees who visited their USC's while waiting and never had any issues at the interview. Can anyone help me out with this? I just want to be sure i'm doing the right thing.
