Ha ha, but no, he's my fiance and a man. He wants to change his name to my former last name. Has anyone done that?

im sure there is someone on vj that has been in every variant of every immigration situation known to the information superhighway.

can you expand on his desired name change? in my head im thinking 'so, hmm, he wants to take her ex-husband's last name? alrighty, different strokes for different folks..'

though i dont think this is the case...

lol no! I was thinking about adding her Maiden name ( family name )not ex husbands :s

QUOTE (YuAndDan @ Apr 1 2009, 09:56 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}>
It is customary to take spouse's family name and YES you can apply for AOS using married name.

Simply file I-485, I-765, and I-131 using married name, and note maiden name on the "Other names used" line of the various forms, and on the "Name on I-94" line on form I-485.

This is a VERY FREQUENT QUESTION.

When traveling simply carry a copy of marriage cert to show how name change from that in passport to that on the green-card or AP doc.

Thanks so much for the info smile.gif

United KingdomChanging surname after moving to the USA
I'm curious. Would it be possible for me to take my fiance's last name when we get married? Even though it's my surname issued on the visa? Or would it be ok as I already have my visa, plus I will be needing to renew my passport near the end of the year anyway. Has anyone done this and what steps would I need to take if I decide to do it.

United KingdomPASSPORT RENEWAL

So let me double check,
I am sending in:

My old passport, marriage cert, Two UK sized photos, cheque for $217? Correct?
Then send it to:
The UK Passport Service for the Americas and Caribbean
British Embassy
19 Observatory Circle, NW
Washington, DC 20008

Yes? :)

Just want to make sure so I don't mess this up.

Oh and for my UK driving license change of name I need to include my marriage cert, Old license, new photos, counterpart license correct? (Sending it to my folks in the UK to mail it from the UK)
I am also getting my name changed by deed-poll (Is this necessary though? ) in the UK so I can get the deed poll sent to my folks house, they can put it in the envelope with my stuff and mail it to the DVLA. :)

Any feedback would be appreciated!

Not sure about marriage cert? I didn't send one in. Anyway. I got my new passport in the post today :) I just sent in teh form, old passport and 2 UK passport sized pictures. I also got my old passport back with my new one.

OK. So from what I can tell you do not need a counter signature on the C1 form if it's just a normal renewal. I'm also getting lost to how much this thing costs right now. Does anyone have a direct link to the costs? I'm a british citizen living in Los Angeles.

Be sure to give them all the info requested on the blue (I assume) sheet.

And if you include 06 so much the better. The CO can only evaluate what is presented. Better to give more than enough info rather than not quite enough.

Sounds like you are almost there!

Best of luck.

Yes it was indeed the blue form. Ok thats great. I will also give them the extra evidence. They pick it up from my house on Monday morning.

Thanks smile.gif

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHad my interview on the 20th feb 2009. But...
Everything went pretty smooth apart from at the end the guy interviewing me said I am missing my fiance's tax returns. He said not to worry as I won't need to go back to the embassy. He gave me some paper with the relevent actions I need to take ticked. One was please provide the tax return form and the other was please enclose your passport. The guy at the interview was acting like I would be issued my visa. But I'm now in mixed mind. I'm unsure if I will now or if they will deny me. The tax return forms they wan't are for 2007. But in 2007 my fiance's income didn't meet the requirements. So now I'm really worried they will fail me sad.gif If I had them with me yesterday I know 100% the guy would have just given me the visa there and then. But now it says it will be reviewed once again by someone. Do you think I should also hand in her 2006 returns as she met the requirements that year. Should I add the most recent pay stubs from her new job (they don't have any from that job.)

US Embassy and Consulate DiscussionHAD MY INTERVIEW. But there was a problem..
Thanks guys. Well her current financial situation meets all the requirements. It's just that the 2007 and 2008 returns do not. I am of course sending the 2007 as asked. But I'm also going to add 2006 and her recent pay stubs for her new full time job. The guy on the phone at the embassy said. if they are also asking for you to post off your passport it probably means they will issue you with your visa. So I hope he's right. This is really stressfull. :s Time apart is getting to us now I think.

If you can get her 2008 return (even if it hasn't yet been filed) and those pay stubs, that should complete the consulate's file satisfactorily.

Ok will do. Although her 2008 won't be so good either. It's only in 2009 she started her full time job. Before that it was just part time.

Mexico, Latin & South Americaadvise needed!

Hello, I have a few questions about the interview in Ciudad Juarez. I recently receive a letter staying that the consulate could start the visa process. What I do not understand is that it does not give me a actual date for my appointment rather says is a OPEN appointment which totally throw me out off guard. I was waiting for a actual date. I hired a lawyer since I started all this process and he has no idea what to tell me! :( So i am confused. Also, my fiance does not know what to expect he has not received anything in the mail and I truly do not know if he will receive the same letter I got. Also in the medical examination is my fiance going to have to wait days to receive the results or is all the same day. Does he needs fingerprints or that is until he comes in the USA... Can I go with him to the interview or they won't let me in? We have a 6 month daughter do we need a DNA test is it required? If he does get his visa will it he get it in the same day? This is hard because he lives in Baja California and he is coming all the way to Juarez, we need to have a time frame of how many days he will stay there. Thank you and I hope to here from you all!!

since youre k-1 VISA you need to call the US embassy in your place to schedule your own interview and regarding your 6 month old daughter she's eligible for a US passport since her father is a US citizen all you need is her birth certificate and make sure your husband name is on the birth certificate and also you could asked your embassy if you could apply a consular birth abroad for your daughter since his dad is an american citizen:)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresNVC TO EMBASSY TRACKING
so whats the problem i checked your timeline it said you had an interview date 7-29-2010, but for your curiosity sake here's how you do it. go to DHL track by reference then type the date like for example your case it completed on 5-21-2010 then typed EXP spaced 21 spaced May spaced 2010A, it will show you the different countries being sent by NVC:)

IR-1 / CR-1 Spouse Visa Process & ProceduresOh! Come On! Where are the NOA2's?
well if youre really anxious whats going on you could start calling USCIS 18003755283 or you could check their website USCIS.gov/case status you already had your NOA1 right?and it had your case number on the upper left corner used that when communicating with USCIS. After that when you received your NOA2 start calling NVC 6033340700 hope this help:)

USPS stands for United States Postal Service you said fiancee sent K-1 petition on march 2010 its already june 3, 2010, did he received any receipt notice?normally the petitioner is the one who will going to receive it, K-1 is much faster to be processed that any kind of visa usually averaging 3months. Asked your fiancee if he received anything it yet:)

K-1 Fiance(e) Visa Process & ProceduresG-325A form

I am applying for K1 visa for my fiance, I have a question. I live in Los Angeles and been working from last 20 years, recently I lost my job and looking for new job. My question is if I have no job at this time am I eligible to apply for K1 visa and fill I 129f and G325A and apply. I am financially very stable.
I will request if some body can guide me regarding this issue.
Thanks

Yes, you are eligible to petition for your fiance to apply for a K1 visa. Several months from now, you'll provide your fiance with an I-134 form (affidavit of support). To qualify as sponsor, you'll need to have a current income at that time to meet the requirements. Alternatively, you can prove you have at least three times the annual income requirement in liquid assets. Just be honest on the G325a and show the end date of your most recent job. You'll have plenty of time to find a new one, use your assets or find a co-sponsor.
